One year on and we're back at the same church fete as the last homemovie.
It's now 1966, the year England won the World Cup and I turned six.
I've got a new costume for the fancy dress competition.
This time round I'm Huckleberry Hound, partnering with Yogi Bear.
The films of the year seem to be well represented - with a bit of 'The Brides of Fu Manchu' and a dash of 'Custer of the West' in evidence.
I wonder if the robot was Doctor Who influenced?
It looks like I won a prize - was it a crossword puzzle book?
And then it's on to the dancing - some tutu's, some tap and some tambourines.
Bring on the dancing girls... wot, no boys!

Just found this older movie I missed first time round.
This was my local church fete in 1965. I was five.
I was a wizard in the fancy dress competition - long before the days of Harry Potter.
Rock on wizards - but I didn't win...
Looking at old fancy dress contests is always interesting as it reflects the cultural pinpoints of the time.
Steptoe and Son starring Harry H Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell was a popular BBC TV sitcom.
With the rise in travel to sunny Spain bullfighting was exotic and new for Britain.
The singer in 'The Blue Stone Sapphires' looks rather young compared with the other members of the band. I wonder what song they were playing?
Dancing of all varieties was popular - ballet, some sort of sailor thing, and...
I remember a number of the children in the fancy dress. I wonder what ever happened to them?

Back in the air for our second holiday abroad in 1970. Mallorca again.
I wonder what book I was reading? I do remember enjoying 'Emil and the Detectives' by Erich Kästner around that time so maybe it was that.
We stayed the same hotel (Hotel Alomar) in the same town (C'an Picafort) as the first year. Creatures of habit I guess.
Really not sure what that giant teapot is about
I love the dog with the ring - "anyone want to play with me?".
I was not much of a swimmer.
The football match - I think it was hotel guests v hotel staff perhaps.
Check my giant sombrero.
And back to the ice-cream - you can never have too much ice-cream - particularly when you are 10 years old.
Oh, there's my broken front tooth - I got that falling off roof of the polieman's garage (don't ask me how).
Back to the swimming pool - what's with the rubber ring? Kick and splash boy, kick and splash.
Really not sure why I was wetting the football - and then my sister sent me back to do it again. Weird eh?
Playing the fool, playing a monkey and playing with dogs.
Hello peacocks, hello baby peacocks...
And back to the ice-creams.
Then it was time to say our goodbyes and time to go home.
Monarch Airlines to Luton Airport again.
Who were those people welcoming us home? I guess I'll never know...

Our family holiday in Majorca / Mallorca in May 1969.
This was our first trip abroad so a big event in the timeline of a working class family aspiring to move up to the lower middle classes.
We flew from Luton Airport on a package holiday with Monarch (now defunct).
And we stayed at the Hotel Alomar in C'an Picafort.
It had a swimming pool. And we went on donkey cart rides.
We were living the high life!
And we were near a beach with plenty of rock pools where I endeavoured to persecute the local crab population.
Then there was a boat ride on the Brisa - with paella and sangria. Hit me with another shot please... I can take it and I'm only 8 for another day or two.
Hot dogs, emmm. Give me more.
Not sure that scaffolding will quite make the grade with H & S.
Let's play tourists with cathedrals, and street paintings and bullfighting and things like that...
A bit of rough and tumble on the beach never did any harm particularly when I was bigger than he was.
And ice creams too. Living the life of Riley eh?
I had my 9th birthday there. And I got a donkey as a present. I kept him for years.
And a little wind-up bull as well. I think the boy holding the Action Man was from Germany. I don't think we spoke each other's language but we could still play bullfighting.
I had three Action Man. One even spoke when you pulled the cord. "Enemy ahead, range 200".
Then it was back to the airport for the flight home.
We were international jetsetters now...

This was my second cousin's wedding in 1968 I believe. I was 7 or 8 years old.
He shared the same surname as me and went to the same secondary school as me about 10 years earlier. A carving of our surname into a table in the science lab done by this cousin was once blamed on me!
Lots of bright '60s fashion going on here particularly amongst the younger guests.
I remember many of the relatives but not all...
There was my favourite cousin who was 4 years older than me and was killed just after he passed his test and drove his car into a telegraph pole.
There was my uncle the builder who looked like Tommy Cooper and helped my dad construct our conservatory.
There was another second cousin who was a fashion model in London and always en vogue.
There was my great auntie who every Christmas until she died gave me a Beano Annual and a ten shilling note (50p).
Then coming out of the church there was my granddad, grandma, mum and sisters (my dad was filming).
And then I pop up at 1min 30sec. I was wearing my school blazer as that was my 'Sunday best' at the time.
Light purple, or maybe it was lilac, seemed to be an 'in' colour that year.
It's funny, I saw a current video the other day of this same cousin volunteering at an aircraft museum. He's changed a bit!
I wish I could remember the names of all the people in the film.
One day, maybe, we will have Smart Media Timetravel, and I will be able to hop back to this place in time and write down everyone's names...

This 'Old Time Music Hall' event was at my primary school.
I believe it was another fundraiser for the swimming pool.
It was organised by, and starred, the parents and the teachers - including the headmaster who was very keen on music if I recall.
I so wish I knew what songs were being sung...
Hours must have been spent rehearsing all the numbers, and I suspect a fair bit of time was spent on the costumes too.
Catch those great flowery hats the women were wearing.
Looks like The Clarions, from the school fete, were here too - two accordians and the female singer.
Beer seemed to be the preferred drink - half pints for the ladies!
Some faces I recognise, many I don't.
Real people doing real things in a different era.
I wonder how their lives panned out. I wonder how many are still alive.

This was my school fete in the summer of 1966.
My mum was involved in organising so I got to present flowers to the 'celebrity guests' who opened the fete. I looked neat and proper with my little bow-tie but I ruined it all by shaking with my left hand.
One of the posh ladies in a pink dress was smoking - you wouldn't see that these days.
It said on the poster that the fete was to be opened by Richard Whitmore, a BBC news reader who lived locally. But it looks like he didn't make it as it wasn't him making the speech, and many years later I went skiing with his daughter.
I wish I knew what song The Clarions were playing. You've got to dig the two accordians.
That was my auntie in pink bowling for a pig.
I think it was the following year that I caused a bit of a scene at the Bowling for a Pig.
I won it - but as I was little they wouldn't let me have the pig and gave me ten shillings instead.
I really, really wanted the pig!
ALERT, ALERT - stand by for some politically incorrect fancy dress...
Heck, what is all that cultural mis-appropriation going on here? And the bunny girl!
I was all cool though - I was the blue dog holding hands with the brown bear.
Anyone remember Yogi Bear and Hucklebury Hound?
Pick a Pocket for sixpence - you would get arrested for that these days!
Now let's look at ladies legs to finish up. What about men's legs?

Christmas Day 1965 with my mum, dad and two elder sisters.
This was the first Christmas my dad had the cine camera.
I was five.
My mum had a bad cold. I had a red dressing gown.
Check all those Christmas cards and that very 60's pattern wallpaper.
I got a dumper truck, a racing car, a little box of lego and a lovely warm scarf.
My elder sister got some 'smellies' and a paint-by-numbers set - they were a thing in the 60's.
My younger sister got some 'smellies' and a notebook and pencil.
And my mum got a black 'nightware set' from my dad. Oh la la...
Then we had the traditional Christmas dinner - turkey and all the trimmings.
I wasn't vegetarian then - I'm not sure many people were in the 1960's?
I still ate from a bowl instead of a plate, and with a fork and spoon - how humiliating!
But I was wearing a dinky little bow-tie, so cool points for that.
The table cloth has long since gone - but would you believe we still have the matching serviettes - 54 years later.

I am back on the dodgems - age 7 or 8 I believe.
This was Wicksteed Park - so I think the dodgems on the previous movie might have been Woburn Abbey instead.
Another year older so I got to drive myself this time.
School uniform was still our Sunday best for trips like this - I remember my grey school jumper and my grey short trousers.
Then off to London Zoo in Regent's Park.
There was a rhinoceros looking bored, and an elephant happy to be fed.
The penguins obviously made an impression on me as I became a penguin catcher 15 years later.
And a bear begging for treats, and zebras playing around and giraffes standing tall.
There's a boat on Regent's Canal, and then the bright lights of Piccadilly Circus.
I haven't been to a zoo for many a year. I guess there is less feeding the animals and more Health & Safety these days.

This movie begins with a trip to Wicksteed Park. I was around 7.
That's me in the bumper cars (or dodgems if you prefer) with my middle sister's 'boyfriend' - David if I recall.
This was in the days when your school blazer would double up as your Sunday best for trips like this.
My birthday party comes next - 7th I think. No lights alas, but plenty of jelly, sandwiches, and cheese and pineapple on sticks.
I was sitting next to my 'best friend' Sarah. Whatever happened to Sarah...
Then we jump forward 4 years or so to me and my middle sister picking apples from the little tree in our back garden.
I remember I shot an arrow into the trunk once with my homemade bow and arrow - and I got a telling off for that.
This is a first appearance for me in these movies in long trousers.
And a first appearance also for Scampie the dog - my best friend for 15 years.
He got his floppy ear when he sneaked off with an open can of dog food and cut his ear on the sharp lid. I remember him coming into the dining room, shaking his head and the blood splattering up the new bamboo pattern wallpaper. He was not popular for that.
Finishing off at the local schools' athletics meetup. I was in the relay team for my school. Aged around 10 if I recall.
Alas the film ends there so we will never know if I came first, last or somewhere in the middle...
