Women are forecast to lose out in the Tech Revolution, and I am not having a bar of it. However we need to find the time to upskill in key areas to navigate a quickly changing world.

I'll tell you more in today's first episode.

CEO and Co-Founder of the Growth Activists Rosanna Iacono knew she could use her wealth of experience from global brands such as Nike and Levi's to make the world a better place.

Helping businesses become B-Corp certified - a prestigious achievement signifying the business has met rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability - has meant she is doing that in one of the most impactful ways.

Sustainability and ESG transformation is central to most companies strategies, but getting there is complex. That is where the Growth Activists come in.

Turning 40 was one such turning point and her quest to use her business acumen for good took her to become a Board member for numerous Not-For-Profits beginning with Dress For Success. Her leadership journey is enthralling - and it's no surprise it is nowhere near ending with her recently being invite to join Chief Executive Women (CEW).

In a world where you can be anything, being just a little bit as purpose driven and courageous as Rosanna could seriously change things up.

Her expertise and background are centred on environmental sustainability, waste-to-energy generation strategies and renewable energy.

Dr Muse is the co-founder of iSTEM Co. Jeroo

Ever wondered where those cute baby clothes and little trainers end up after children grow out of them? Jeroo Doodhmal began investigating this, realising how much waste suddenly took up her home when she had her daughter.

She found 15 million shoes are bought every year for children, and 85% end up in landfill. Made of many little parts, the shoes are not able to break down, so the problem is significant.

Driven by this mammoth problem, she set up Pip & Henry, a children's footwear brand made of innovative materials that can be reused.

Not an easy ride as Covid hit, but Jeroo talks us through how she combined skills from her corporate career spanning Barclays Bank and the UK retailer J. Sainsbury's along with innate creativity to create a compelling offer - that has caught the attention of John Lewis and numerous innovation prizes in the UK.

Hannah is joined by previous guests of Fire and Forte to discuss Ageism.

Let's get beyond the headlines. What is Ageism? And what do we do about it? Some members of the Fire and Forte crew got together to discuss the topic, and the conversation was insightful & at times surprising.

  • What is the reality of ageing, versus the stereotype?

  • How does the media shape this?

  • What can life look like in your 40's and 50's? How can different generations work together?

  • Does the experience differ for men and women?

  • How can we make workplaces more inclusive?

Do comment and share your views and experiences, we'd love to know more. Let's be the change we want to see!

Thank you Katy Graczer, Jules Brooke, Nicole Crivelli, Danika Johnston, Natasha Ginnivan, Charmaine Dhalwanth, Anna Leibel & Laura Shimili.

Natasha is a Research Fellow in Psychology at the UNSW Ageing Futures Institute. Starting her career in fashion, she later decided to study psychology which sparked an interest in the attitudes and stereotypes towards ageing.

Discussing the predominantly negative stereotypes we're fed from a young age, Natasha shares a number of studies and her own research that explain why that can impact our personal experience of ageing, and how we internalise cultural attitudes.

Natasha spells out the need for connection, and shares that the feelings many experience as they age of empowerment, confidence, and a sense of hitting your stride is common. Not what we’d expect if we'd swallowed the cultural kool aid.

With the UN stating that ageism is a global challenge, the question is how do workplaces and society as a whole need to evolve to become more diverse and inclusive?

Sharon Handelman-Gotlib is driving a revolution in Health. The development and impact of FemTech is her life mission, wanting to ensure women at all stages of their life benefit from better health care and smoother journeys via diagnosis, treatment and so on.

Her forte is innovation, and during the pandemic she began studying what startups and tech solutions were around that supported women's health.

"Menopause - something every woman will go through, yet there's so much stigma, that's one thing I'm working on"

Sharon had taken some big leaps after hitting 40 in 2020 (yes - her celebration plans were scuppered by the pandemic).

In recent months she has been appointed as the CEO of FemTech start-up, Shela.

In an age where women were told "you can have it all", Danika Johnston's media career grew vertically, at the same time as she was raising her family. Throw in a pandemic and juggling it all was a challenging reality many women can relate to.

It was when she reached 42 that she found a new lease of life - focusing on getting fit and healthy, and unleashing her creativity on a side hustle - a fashion label and online store.

Now at 46, she is feeling sharp and is obsessed with doing the right thing.

This clarity and purpose is being put to good use as she is part of the pioneering team behind new social media platform WeAre8 - the social media app that is good for People and Planet. Changing the way social media is done, it encourages quality content and giving back - citizens get paid to watch ads and can donate to good causes once they have done so.

"If it can happen to me it can happen to anyone"

Catherine was in her mid thirties when she met her former husband. In hindsight, there were concerning behaviours throughout the relationship, but due to various factors many can empathise with, she tried to make it work. Separation eventually occurred when she was able to admit this was a toxic relationship.

However it was at this point she found out that financial abuse had occurred right under her nose.Catherine (identity protected) is passionate that her experience can help others. She founded the Instagram account and community @financialrespect to help raise this often taboo topic. Raising awareness that it is never too late to get the control you need of your finances, and how to help identify if behaviours are controlling, and damaging.

Founding a Tech Start-Up was not something Lawyer Jeannie-Marie expected even 3 years ago. However, her personal experience of having her mother, Robyn, in aged care inspired her.Communication was an ongoing challenge relying on phone calls between the care home staff and her family, which could easily be missed but also take up the time of a nurse that could be caring for a resident with that time instead.Brenna was born - an application that redefines the communication between staff and family in Aged Care. Jeannie-Marie shares the approach she took building a truly excellent product that provides a solution to all parties. Diligent in her approach, validating and researching , Jeannie-Marie also talks us through the people and networks you can find when you don't believe you're 'very technical'.Find more information about Brenna here:https://brenna.com.auhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jeannie-marie-noyce-0bba182aFollow us on Fire and Forte with Hannah Maude:https://www.linkedin.com/company/fire-and-forte/https://www.instagram.com/fireandforte/https://www.linkedin.com/in/hannah-maudeauwww.fireandforte.com#startup #womenintech #agedcare #womenover40 #female founder #technology #aging #app #start-ip #healthtech #agedtech

There's a Tech Skills shortage, a problem with productivity and a gigantic gender wealth gap. There are however, millions of women, in work and in need of work who have life and work experience that should they upskill or retrain in tech areas, could make a serious dent in such areas.

Fire and Forte has been a passion project of Host Hannah Maude, sharing the achievements of women 'on Fire' over 40. It quickly transpired there is NO shortage of such women. Problem solvers, innovaters, creators, educators - going after what they see the world needs and making stuff happen. A seriously impressive cohort.

One of their gifts is experience, and the knowledge and confidence that comes with that. Evidence points to this being hugely beneficial to society & the economy. However, at the same time women can find it hard to get back into work after caring for children, or may find their roles in work seemingly more impacted by tech, potentially risking jobs in the future. Ironically, technical or digital roles are more likely to be flexible and well paid, kinda helpful as a working parent, no?

With the ambition to make the most of this brilliance and give opportunity to rewarding, successful careers, we're kicking off our first Tech Week.

Speaking to Industry Experts and women who have got into Tech later in their careers, we want to find out what it's like to upskill or retrain. We can then move the conversation into HOW we help do more of this.

Bring on an interesting week!
