Larry Robinson - affectionately known as "Big Bird" to his teammates and fans joins us today! Robinson is a LEGEND! Big, strong, talented and tough - no one messed with Larry Robinson when he was on the ice! He is a six-time Stanley Cup champion as a player with the Montreal Canadiens, and after his playing days, became a three-time Stanley Cup champion as a coach. Robinson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995 and is considered to be one of the NHL's greatest 100 players of all time! Today's episode we welcome Jarret Stoll, a two-time Stanley cup champion with the Los Angeles Kings. Before The NHL Stoll was the captain of the Kootenay Ice Memorial Cup Championship team in 2002. He was drafted into the NHL twice before eventually playing 13 seasons with 4 different teams (872 games) - only 89 players have ever been drafted twice in NHL history. Stoll went on to become one of the NHL’s most reliable face-off specialists playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Minnesota Wild.

Such a privilege to welcome our friend Terry Harper this week! Terry is a five-time Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Canadiens. He is 86 YEARS young and an inspiration to us all!! He was a "defensive defenceman" who played 1,150 games over 19 NHL seasons. Harper was a key member of the Habs dynasty in the 1960s and served as captain for both the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings. He lives in California today, close to his family and STILL PLAYS HOCKEY TWICE A WEEK..!!! Enjoy!!

Today’s episode we welcome Nick Bonino, a 15 year NHL veteran and a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nick was a key member of the Penguin’s famous “HBK line” along with Carl Hagelin and Phil Kessel. After being drafted in the 6th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks, Bonino was a key member of Boston University NCAA National Champion team in 2009. Before playing a game for San Jose, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks where he started his 15 NHL career in 2010. In June of 2025, Nick retired as an active player to join the Pittsburgh penguins coaching staff with head coach, Dan Muse, who had coached Bonino while he played with the New York Rangers in the 2023-24 season. So great to have two time Stanley Cup Champion Trevor Lewis join us today! Lewis a first-round pick, 17th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft played over 1,000 games over 17 seasons. Trevor won both his Cups with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and again in 2014. He became one of the NHL’s most reliable defensive forwards & penalty killers and is the first Stanley Cup Champion to be born in the state of Utah! We are pleased to welcome the face of the Arizona Coyotes franchise - Shane Doan! Shane is considered by most people as being one of the nicest guys to have played in the NHL. No surprise he was one of the longest serving team captains in NHL history, and as one of the best power forwards, is the current record holder for many of the Arizona Coyotes franchise records. Shane played in 21 NHL seasons, over 1500 games and ended his career with 402 goals and 972 career points. All of them with the only NHL franchise he ever played for - the Phoenix Coyotes. He is also the recipient of the King Clancy trophy and Mark Messier leadership award recipient. Marty McSorley is a 2 time Stanley Cup Champion who played 17 seasons in the NHL. He is best known as Wayne Gretzky’s “protector” both with the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings., was a key part of the infamous 1988 trade that brought Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings. Beyond being a straight enforcer, McSorley had some notable offensive skills and assisted on Gretzky’s goal that broke Gordie Howe’s all time NHL points record in March of 1994. Marty was also on the wrong side of the most impactful “Illegal stick” calls in NHL Stanley Cup history during the 1993 Stanley Cup final against the Montreal Canadians. Glen is a Stanley Cup Champion with the 1994 New York Rangers, is 15 year year NHL veteran, and his ‘stand-on-his-head” goaltending was largely responsible for one of the biggest upsets in NHL history when the New York Islanders knocked off the 2 time defending Stanley Cup Champions, Pittsburgh Penguins led by legends Mario Lemieux & Jaromir Jagr in the 2nd round of the 1993 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Even with all of his success on the ice as a player, Healy is creating an even better legacy as the Executive Director and President of the NHL Alumni Association. Since being hired in 2017, Healy has focused on creating a successful mandate & structure in helping all NHL Alumni members transition from on-ice careers to successful, healthy lives away from the game. Not an easy task - chronic pain, addictions, mental health, and financial challenges are challenges for many players, particularly the NHL players who played before big salaries became more prevalent in the past few years… A tremendous player, and many say an even better leader in his capacity as leader of the NHL Alumni Association!! - so pleased to have Glenn Healy join our show this week!

Rask is one of the best Goaltenders in Boston Bruins history and is their team record holder for most wins by a goalie with 308 career wins! He was also the a Stanley Cup Champion with the 2011 Boston Bruins, and was the 2014 Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s top goaltender. On top of his success with the Bruins, Tuukka had a stellar International career with his home country of Finland as a two time Olympic Medalist and was named the top Goaltender of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi Russia. He was the first player in hockey history to win an Olympic Gold Medal and a Stanley Cup in the same season! After the most epic season a player could possible have, Ken didn’t rest on his laurels - he went on to win 4 straight Stanley Cups as an integral part of the New York Islanders dynasty in the 1980s..!! He was one of the most dependable and reliable defensemen of his era, and was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995! However, despite his 4 Stanley Cups and his ‘Miracle On Ice' Olympic Gold Medal, he has yet to receive the same recognition in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Morrow shares some very interesting insights on how a group of U.S. College players were able to knock off the feared Soviet National Olympic team, and how that experience helped groom a 9 year NHL career with 4 Stanley Cups..! Rob Blake played over 1200 NHL games, is a Stanley Cup champion with the Colorado Avalanche, and a rare member of the “Triple Gold Club”. (Olympic Gold Medal, Stanley Cup, and a World Championship!) Blake won the 1998 Norris trophy as the NHL’s top Defenceman and spent 5 seasons as the Captain of the Los Angeles Kings. Pierre Larouche won two Stanley Cups with the Montreal Canadians and was the first player in NHL History to have a 50 goal season with 2 different teams. (the Montreal Canadians and Pittsburgh Penguins) Larouche is the ONLY player in NHL History to score 45 goals or more with 3 different NHL Teams, a record the remains to this day! Dominik Hasek is a two time Stanley Cup Champion, and Olympic Gold Medalist who is considered amongst the best goaltenders in the history of hockey. He played for 16 seasons with four different NHL teams and won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's most outstanding goalie 6 times. He is also the only goaltender to win the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player twice. Hašek was the first European Goaltender to win the Stanley Cup, setting an NHL play-off record for shutouts in the process and is credited for opening the door for future European goaltenders who are now a strong force across the NHL. In 1998 in Nagano, Japan, he led Czech Republic to their first and only Olympic Gold medal, famously shutting out Canada in a tie-breaking shootout & eliminating the Canadian “dream team” along the way. Hašek holds the NHL record for the best career save percentage (.922) and was inducted into the Hockey hall of Fame in 2017 and has been named one of top 100 Players in NHL history.

Mike Knuble is the only NHL player to have been teammates with the top 2 goal scorers in NHL history: Wayne Gretzky and Alex Ovechkin. He shares some great stories about playing with both Ovechkin and Gretzky and why their playing styles may have been different, but their impact to their teammates and to the NHL was very similar. Knuble played in the NHL for 16 seasons in over 1,000 NHL games. He won the Stanley Cup early in his career with the 1998 Detroit Red wings and has an NHL record himself - Knuble is the NHL record holder for the fastest 2 goals, by the same player, to start an NHL Game. Milan Hejduk is the Colorado Avalanche team record holder for most games played in franchise history! Hejduk didn't just "play" - he was an essential part of the 2001 Stanley Cup season, won the 2003 Rocket Richard Trophy for scoring the most goals in the NHL that season, and is one of only 3 players to wear the "C" for the Avalanche. In 2011, TIM THOMAS put on one of the greatest Stanley Cup goaltending performances in NHL history! He led the Boston Bruins to their 6th Stanley Cup setting the NHL record for most saves during the Stanley Cup playoffs, winning the Conn Smyth Trophy as the 'Most Valuable Player' of the 2011 Stanley Cup in the process. Thomas became the oldest player to win this award. Tim's hockey career to develop into one of the game's greatest goalies is one of perseverance and courage. He did not become a starting NHL Goaltender for the Bruins until he was 31 years old but then went on to play in 4 NHL All Star games, won two Vezina Trophies as the NHL's most outstanding Goaltender and of course, his Stanley Cup and Conn Smyth Trophies in 2011. His playing days came to a close after suffering a life altering concussion and sustaining brain damage that went undiagnosed until after his career ended. As he did as a player, Tim has shown great courage and fortitude in his life after hockey in moving forward with the challenges and effects of this injury. Now living a quiet, peaceful life in Vermont, he does not speak often publicly about his playing days or about his life after hockey, so we are very happy to be able to share his incredible story & memories with you today. (including a great story of his encounter with Alex Ovechkin at the NHL All Star Game) Tim Thomas was a brave, courageous hockey player, and he remains a brave and courageous human being - Enjoy our conversation...!

Ron Hextall is one of the best goaltenders to play in the NHL in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He played 13 seasons and built a reputation for being “intense, unhinged, and very talented". Ron is best remembered as a Philadelphia Flyer where he is still the holder of multiple team goaltending records to this day. He is also the NHL record holder for most penalty minutes in both in a single season, and for all-time career penalty minutes which includes 6 fighting majors. Hextall is also a goaltending “pioneer” - credited to be amongst the first goalies to develop strong puck handling skills, which is now an expected skill for all NHL goaltenders. He became the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal by shooting it into the opponent’s net, and is the only goalie to have done it twice in NHL history. In 1997 he won both the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy, one of 3 only Goaltenders in NHL history to win both awards in the same season

Doug Jarvis is a SIX TIME STANLEY CUP CHAMPION..!! He has the distinction of NEVER missing a single NHL game in his entire 13 year NHL Career. Jarvis was the long time holder of the NHL Iron Man Record for playing in 964 consecutive NHL Games – an NHL record that stood for 34 Years until being recently surpassed by Kieth Yandle and Phil Kessel. Doug he won 4 straight Stanley Cups, 1976 through 1979 as a key member of the 1970’s Montreal Canadian’s dynasty. In 1984 he won the Frank Selke Trophy Winner as the NHL’s “best defensive forward”, and in 1987 won the Bill Masterton Trophy Winner for breaking the NHL’s Ironman record for most consecutive games played. After retiring as a player, he continued his “iron man” work ethic as an Assistant Coach and became an NHL Assistant Coach for 26 seasons. He won his 5th Stanley Cup as an Assistant Coach of the 1999 Dallas Stars and then won his 6th Stanley Cup as an assistant Coach of the 2011 Boston Bruins. This week we welcome Stanley Cup Champion Dan Boyle..! Dan is described by teammates and coaches as one of most intense and competitive players ever to play in the NHL. He joined the NHL as an undrafted, undersized D man who played much bigger than his listed height & weight and played for 17 seasons with four different NHL teams. Boyle was a two-time All-Star, he posted 605 points in 1,093 games and was a key part of the Tamp Bay Lightning’s 2004 Stanley Cup championship and helped the San Jose Sharks make the playoffs in each of his six seasons with the team. Dan was also a key member of Canada’s gold medal team at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

Ken Hitchcock spent 23 year career as an NHL Head Coach and became known as being one of the best communicators, motivators and strategists in all of coaching – not just in hockey, but in any sport! He has the 6th most career wins by a coach in NHL History and guided the Dallas Stars to their first and only Stanley Cup Championship in 1999. Hitchcock was also part of the Canadian coaching staff for three Olympic Gold Medals. He was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023.

He won the Calder Trophy as NHL 1991 rookie of the year, the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goalie (twice) the Stanley Cup in 1999, he played in 5NHL All Star Games, he was a member of the 2002 Canadian Olympic Gold Medal team becoming one of only two players to have won an NCAA championship, a Stanley Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal. And finally, after all of those accomplishments, he was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2011

This is one of our craziest interviews yet - Lyle Odelein, a 16 year NHL veteran and Stanley Cup Champion with the 1993 Montreal Canadians joins us this week!! Lyle is the current Canadians record holder for most assists in a single game by a defenceman – 5 (co-holds the record with Doug Harvey & Sheldon Souray). In addition to his 7 years with the Habs, he also played 4 years with the New Jersey Devils, in 2000-01 became the very first team captain of the expansion Columbus Blue Jackets. Here is where the crazy part comes in - in 2018, Lyle nearly lost his life, spending 60 days in a coma, became paralyzed and went through a heart valve transplant as well as kidney & liver transplants – all in the same day - to save his life!! Williams was a first round draft pick, 28th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In 2014 Justin won the Conn Smyth Trophy as playoff MVP while winning his 3rd Stanley Cup as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. Vincent Damphousse played 18 seasons in the NHL after being selected 6th overall in the first round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs - the first French-Canadian ever to be selected by the Leafs in the first round! He was a steady offensive player for the Leafs for 5 years until being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for a single season, then to his hometown Montreal Canadians. With the Habs, his career climbed by leading the Montreal Canadians in scoring when they won their last Stanley Cup in 1993 defeating Wayne Gretzky and LA Kings in 5 games- it was the last time a Canadian NHL has won the Cup! He eventually became the Canadians Captain before finishing his career with the San Jose Sharks. Dampousse played in over 1300 games and scored over 1200 points - certainly Hall of Fame numbers & achievements, but has not received the call yet..!

Thrilled to have Gary Roberts join us this week! A 21 year NHL veteran with the Flames, Hurricanes, Leafs, Florida , Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay Lightening. He was a first round selection of the Calgary Flames in the 1984 NHL entry draft and became a Stanley Cup Champion with the Flames in 1989. Roberts was forced into retirement with a chronic, debilitating neck injury, but after a year and half away from the game, came out of retirement in 1997 and played for 11 more seasons. Roberts became known throughout his career as being the best shape of ANY player in the NHL and is now regarded as one of the best off-ice trainers to many of the current star players in the National Hockey League.

So thrilled to have Toronto Maple Leafs legend Mats Sundin join us this week. Mats is an 18 year National Hockey League Veteran and in 1989, was the first European to be selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft. Sundin is best known as a Toronto Maple Leaf where he was Team Captain for 11 years and is the current Leaf’s franchise record holder for most goals and most points. He finished his career with a “point-per-game” pace scoring 1,349 points in 1,346 games and is the only Swedish-born player to score 500 goals in the National Hockey League. He won three gold medals at the IIHF World Championship and was the Captain of Team Sweden when they captured the 2006 Olympic Gold Medal
in 2012 he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, becoming only the second Swede behind the legendary Börje Salming to be indicted at that time, and in 2017 was named one of the “top 100 players in NHL history”

In 1996, he was part of Dallas Star’s “big four” defence core that also included Derian Hatcher, Sergei Zubov and Richard Matvichuk - a major reason for the Dallas Stars’ Stanley Cup winning season in 1999.
In 2010, after playing 1,291 games and 18 seasons, that included a second Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he retired from the National Hockey League.... He is now enjoying retirement, having returned to live in Kamloops as part owner of the Blazers

Joe Nieuwendyk was a 20 year NHL Veteran and a three time Stanley Cup Champion with the CALGARY FLAMES, DALLAS STARS and the NEW JERSEY DEVILS. We are very excited to be joined this week by Håkan Loob, a rare member of Hockey’s “Triple Gold Club” which, to be a member, means you must win a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games, a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships and also win the Stanley Cup – all three! Only 30 players in the history of the sport of hockey have managed to accomplish this. Loob only played 6 years in the National Hockey League – all with the Calgary Flames, but in a very short time he had a very big impact becoming the first Swedish player to score 50 goals in the NHL and played in 2 Stanley Cup finals, including being part of Calgary’s only Stanley Cup Championship Team in 1989.

We are switching it up a bit with featuring our first coach on the show, but not just any coach - Scotty Bowman is an icon as a National Hockey League coach for 30 seasons! He holds the record for most coaching wins in NHL history, with 1,244 wins in the regular season, plus another 223 wins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bowman is often regarded as the greatest coach in NHL history.
As head coach, he has won a record nineStanley Cupchampionships; five with the Montreal Canadiens in the 1970’s, one with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992 and three with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and again in 2002. He is the only NHL coach in history to lead three different teams to Stanley Cup victories.

Brooks Orpik is a 2 time Stanley Cup Champion and was a 1st round Draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins - 18th overall - in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft - He played for 16 seasons in the NHL – 11 with the Pittsburgh Penguins and 5 with the Washington Capitals for a total of 1,035 NHL Games. Kevin Lowe is a 6 time Stanley Cup Champion and the first player ever drafted by the Edmonton Oilers!! He was selected 21st overall in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. Lowe then became the first player to score a goal for the Edmonton Oilers NHL franchise! A strong, steady, stay at home defencemen, Kevin patrolled the blue line for the Edmonton Oilers for 13 seasons and helped lead them to 5 Stanley Cups before being traded to the New York Rangers where he played for 4 seasons, and won his 6th Stanley Cup! Patrice Bergeron is a rare member of Hockey’s “Triple Gold Club” which means he won a Gold Medal at an Olympic Games, a gold medal at the World Championships and also won the Stanley Cup – only 30 players in the history of the sport of hockey have managed to accomplish this feat! Bergeron played 19 years in the National Hockey League – ALL with the Boston Bruins, and is considered by most as one of the greatest defensive forwards to ever play the game! Patrice won SIX Frank Selke Awards as the NHL’s best Defensive Forward, and had 12 nominations for that award over the course of his career. Both numbers are NHL records! Rick Vaive, a 13 year NHL Veteran who was a first round pick, 5th overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft is in the house! Vaive played half a season for the Canucks before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he is best remembered as their Captain and as the very first player in team history to score 50 goals in a season wearing the blue and white. He is one of only of 4 players in NHL history to score 70 goals or more, and finish with 150 points or more in a single season. The other 3 to accomplish this are Phil Esposito, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. Bernie played in 1127 NHL games, for 6 different NHL teams and finished his career in 2006 with over a ‘point per game’ pace with 1,209 points. Kolzig played more seasons with the Washington Capitals than any other player in franchise history! Ken Daneyko is a 3 time Stanley Cup Champion who was drafted in the first round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He played his entire 20 year NHL career with the New Jersey Devils setting numerous Devil’s team records - two of which – most games played (1,283 games) and most penalty minutes (2,516), both remain as Franchise records to this day!! He was part of New Jersey's humble NHL beginnings and endured the lean early years & growing pains as the Devils became a model NHL organization, and eventual three time Stanley Cup Champions. Ken's tough-nosed attitude and willingness to sacrifice his own body led him to be beloved by New Jersey fans, and eventually having his number retired by the team. In 2002, he was the winner of the Bill Masterton Trophy awarded annually for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Since his retirement from the Devils in 2003, he has been active as an Analyst and colour commentator for New Jersey Devils broadcasts on MSG. Most importantly, after struggling with alcohol addiction throughout a great deal of his playing career, he is proudly celebrating his 13th year of sobriety!! Brian Boyle is one of 13 children and his story, and the story of his father's battle with terminal cancer, is one of most amazing stories we have ever featured on our show! It's a story of courage, faith and perseverance. Brian and his family faced devastating, live threatening health challenges, but also experienced miracles - literal miracles! - that have kept his father, himself and other family members alive and living life to the fullest! Brian is a 14 year NHL veteran who was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. During his career he suited up for 8 different NHL Teams, but is best remembered for his 5 years as a New York Ranger, and as a domineering 6’6” power forward, enjoying two “back to back’ appearances in the Stanley Cup Finals with the New York Rangers in 2014 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015. After signing a new 2 year contract with the New jersey Devils in 2017, he was diagnosed with Cancer which he successfully battled with great determination and was able to return to the NHL the same season, winning the Bill Masterton Trophy in the process. After retiring from the NHL in 2023 he joined the NHL Networks as a studio analyst.

Chris Chelios, a 26 year NHL LEGEND who is a 3 time Stanley Cup Champion and 3 time Norris Trophy Winner joins us this week! Chelios wa a second round draft choice in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadians and was runner up for the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie, and won the first of his three Stanley Cups with the Habs the following season. After a block buster trade to his hometown Chicago Blackhawks, he became the face of the franchise over nine years, became team Captain and is still the franchise record holder for career penalty minutes. He went on to win 2 more Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings and was one of Team USA’s most reliable players and leaders in multiple Olympic and other international Tournaments – A three-time Norris Trophy winner as the NHL’s Best defensemen, Chelios holds the record for most career playoff games played with 266, and is tied with Gordie Howe for most NHL seasons played with 26. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013, the International Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018, and recently had his Jersey retired on February 25th by the Blackhawks.

We are joined by Marty Biron who was a first round draft choice of the Buffalo Sabres, 16th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Marty went on to play over 17 seasons – all but 3 in the state of New York, with the Sabres, Islanders and Rangers. He one of only 6 NHL players ever to play for all three NHL franchises. Biron spent the other 3 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and was key part of their 2008 Stanley Cup playoff run after missing the playoffs the previous seasons.
He spent his first nine seasons with the Buffalo Sabres replacing Dominick Hasek as their starting goaltender and becoming a fan favourite with Sabre fans. He then moved on to spend 3 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, one season with the Islanders, before closing out his career as a New York Rangers in 2013. Biron left the game with a very respectable 230 wins, a Goals Against Average of 2.61 and a .910 save percentage.

Well before Alex Ovechkin became a household name as the most recognizable sniper of the WASHINGTON CAPITALS, Dennis was setting Capitals Franchise scoring records back in the 1980’s – and some of his records still haven’t broken - even by Ovechkin...!!
He has a rare NHL pedigree of being drafted by the California Golden Seals, in the first round of the 1975 NHL Entry Draft, before becoming a member of the Cleveland Barons (remember them?) when the Golden Seals franchise was re-located. He played 14 NHL seasons, but will best be remembered for his five seasons with the Washington Capitals where he led the team in scoring three straight years, and set the Franchise record for most Points and most Assists in a single season in 1982!
He played exactly 888 NHL Games, and finished his career with 878 points! Just shy of a “point-per-game” pace.
In addition to his record setting team scoring with the Capitals, he is also remembered as one of hockey’s biggest personalities, and for having one of the most stellar moustaches in National Hockey League history!

Alexander Daigle joins us this week! Alex was one of the most highly anticipated players ever to come out of Canadian Junior Hockey - A 6-foot and 200 -pound center, possessing ridiculous speed & stickhandling skills, he tore apart QMJHL in his draft year, accumulating a staggering 137 points in only 53 games for the Victoriaville Tigres - it was easy to see how such production and domination vaulted him to the top of prospects for the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
He was selected 1st over-all by the Ottawa Senators, but struggled to ever reach the lofty expectations placed on him by NHL scouts and fans alike. After seven disappointing NHL seasons, he walked away from the game entirely, and retired from hockey at the very young age of 25.
After a two years absence however, he regained his passion, and returned to the NHL and played for 3 more seasons, and quietly earned respect from his coaches and teammates alike.
Now, 48 years old and with a documentary on his career recently released on Amazon, he is opening up on what that experience was like to have had those expectations thrust upon him as a teenager. He is very open and candid about his struggles and his thoughts on the professional career that he did manage to have, and what the sport of hockey means to him today... Bernie was a first round pick in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, and put up very impressive numbers that still remain as St Louis Blues Franchise records including career games played (927), career assists (721) career points (1073) and career playoff assists (66). He was the first NHL player in League history to get 50 assists in 10 consecutive seasons. Bernie played exactly 1,000 NHL Games, and finished his career with 1,130 points! At the time of his retirement in 1990, only 15 players had ever scored more points in the NHL. On this week’s show, we are joined by Adam Oates, one of the greatest playmakers in hockey history - NHL Scouts felt he too was “too slow” as a junior, and he went un-drafted in 1982. However, after then playing 3 years of U.S College hockey and working on his game at RPI, in 1985 he signed the NHL's highest rookie contract in history (at the time) with the Detroit Red Wings, and went on to play 19 seasons in the NHL. He certainly proved his critics wrong, as his speed wasn’t an issue averaging over a point a game in the 1,337 NHL games he played. Oates ended his career with 1,420 regular season points and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012, and in 2017, was named one of the Top 100 players in NHL History. Ranford was selected in the third round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft 52nd overall, by the Boston Bruins. On this week’s 7-Eleven Overtime Podcast, we are joined by Larry Murphy, one of the NHL’s best defencemen who won the Stanley Cup 4 TIMES over his 21 year career in the National Hockey League.
He won two back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 & 1992; and then won back-to-back Cups again with Detroit in 1997 & 1998. He was also a key member of the Canadian Team in 1997 Canada Cup was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 - his first year of eligibility.

On this week’s show, we are joined by a former player who is regarded as one of the greatest defencemen in NHL History – Scott Niedermayer! Scott played 18 seasons for the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks and is a four-time Stanley Cup champion and played in five NHL All Star Games. He won the James Norris Trophy in 2003-04 as the NHL's top defenceman and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2007 as the most valuable player of the playoffs.
Internationally, Niedermayer played with Team Canada on many occasions. He is a member of the rarefied “Triple Gold Club” having won the Stanley Cup as well as a World Championship, and an Olympic Gold medal. (Scott actually won Two of those in both 2002 and again in 2010 – but who’s counting?)
He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November 2013 - he joins us today just before he leaves to be part of Canada’s coaching staff at this year’s Spengler Cup

Redden patrolled the blueline for 14 seasons in the National Hockey League starting back in 1996-97 season. He played for 4 different NHL Teams but will be best remembered as an Ottawa Senator, where he is the franchise’s leader in career plus/minus and 4th all time in games played. Redden was inducted to the Ottawa Senator's “Ring of Honour” on December 12th - the first player to be inducted with this honour.

On this week’s show, we are joined by a giant of a man, and a giant of a player - Zdano Chara, who starting in 1997, played 24 seasons in the National Hockey league, just announcing his retirement this past October. Chara will be best remembered as the Captain of the Boston Bruins for 14 seasons, winning the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011. In 2022, he played in his 1,652nd NHL game, making him the league's all-time leader in games played by a defenseman. Standing at 6 ft 9 - he is the tallest person ever to play in the NHL.
