In this episode we chat with Alyssa from Luna Holistic Birth. She shares her initiation into motherhood, her three births, and how these experiences support her work in holistic birth preparation for women all over the globe.
Alyssa is a a holistic birthkeeper, breastfeeding counsellor, and mother of 2. She lives near the beautiful Fundy Coast in New Brunswick, where she spends her days homeschooling my daughters, connecting with nature, and supporting pregnant, birthing & breastfeeding women from near & far.
She got into this work shortly after the redemptive freebirth of her youngest daughter 2 ½ years ago, when she felt the calling to support other women who wanted to reclaim their autonomy in pregnancy and birth. She immersed myself in a holistic doula & birthkeeper training program followed by a peer lactation counselling program & a placenta preparation course which she plugged away at during naptime and after her children went to bed.
We talk about her initiation into motherhood and how that included a loss at 19 weeks, dismissive reassurance from the medical system, the cold experiences of the hospital, the reclamation of birth, and the power of the moon. We also talk deeply about woman’s intuition, TRUE woman centred care, and the beauty of sisterhood through this work.

Her early life experiences of sexual traumas, childhood illness and epilepsy led her to develop her personal self-care practices with song and dance that empower, strengthen, and discipline her to integrate her sensory sensitives and develop a wholistic personal narrative of these experiences. Lisa has been providing Ayurvedic bodywork to her community for close to 10 years. She is a lifelong Yoga practitioner and was called to start teaching 5 years ago, and is currently training as a Yoga Therapist specializing in perinatal.
Lisa is a Mother to 3 beautiful children who continually inspire her to step fully into who she is and to powerfully keep moving forward; to shine her light and be a guide and mentor for other Mothers.
She believes childbirth is a rite of passage and a sacred time that deserves to be honoured and respected. Her greatest wish is for all women to be fully supported so that they may receive the rest, nourishment, love and care that they need to fully heal, recover and bond with their babies. This level of care is fundamental in shaping who they are and will become, how they are able to care for themselves and their families, and ultimately, their greater communities.
Having the tools that Yoga and Ayurveda provide has made all the difference in each of Lisa‘s pregnancies and postpartum recoveries, and has led her to begin bringing this level of care to new Mothers. She provides nurturing touch through warm oil massage, breastfeeding guidance and support, newborn care assistance, a listening ear and a calming, peaceful presence.
All of her offerings come from her heart, to share her love and her grounded energy with other women to give them the space they need to truly rest and settle their nervous systems.

Spending the day outdoors, in all weather, had such a positive impact on the children & the educators. Sarah witnessed children experiencing a freedom to be themselves, to make mistakes, and to co-create their learning environment.
