What if hospitality isn't about having a perfectly clean home, elaborate meals, or an always-ready guest room?
What if hospitality is simply creating a home where people feel welcomed, loved, and cared for?
In episode 197 of the Restoration Home Podcast, Jennifer Pepito talks with Mystie Winckler about creating a hospitable home while homeschooling, managing the daily rhythms of family life, and cultivating an environment where relationships can flourish.
Mystie shares wisdom from her new book on hospitality, encouraging women to see their homes as places of welcome and ministry. Together, Jennifer and Mystie discuss how simple rhythms, household systems, and intentional habits can create more peace and margin for loving our families and serving others.
After nearly 30 years of homeschooling, Jennifer has seen that the most meaningful parts of education often happen around the table, in the kitchen, while caring for others, and through the everyday work of home life.
This conversation connects beautifully with the themes from Jennifer's book, Habits for a Sacred Home, where she explores how small, faithful practices can transform our homes into places of peace, connection, and spiritual formation and from Mystie's new book, Home is for Hospitality.
In this episode, you'll hear:
✨ Why hospitality is more about welcome than perfection
✨ How to create a home culture where people feel they belong
✨ Simple rhythms that help homeschool families manage the demands of daily life
✨ Why household work is an important part of our children's education
✨ How to make space for community even during busy homeschool seasons
✨ The connection between homemaking, discipleship, and hospitality
✨ Practical ways to cultivate a home that reflects God's love
Our homes are not just places where we complete lessons or manage responsibilities. They are places where we form people, build relationships, practice generosity, and create memories that last for generations.
Whether you are welcoming neighbors around your table, teaching your children to serve, or simply trying to create a peaceful atmosphere for your family, this conversation will encourage you to embrace the sacred work of home.

Reflection Question:
What is one small habit you could cultivate this week to make your home feel more welcoming and peaceful?
Motherhood has a way of revealing our deepest fears.
Whether you’re afraid of failing your children, making irreversible mistakes, or wondering if you’re doing enough, fear can quietly steal the joy God intended for your family. Add the weight of mom guilt, and our nervous system begins to suffer.
In episode 196 of the Restoration Home Podcast, I’m joined by author and speaker Sarah Walton to talk about overcoming fear, embracing God’s grace, and learning how to forgive yourself for mistakes and regulate your nervous system in the midst of motherhood crisis.
Together we discuss:
If you’ve ever lain awake wondering whether you’ve damaged your children or wished you could have a “do-over” as a mom, this episode is for you. God’s grace is bigger than your failures, and He is faithfully at work in both your heart and your children’s lives.

Welcome to episode 192 with Jennifer and Emelie.
Over her 28 years of homeschooling, one of the main reasons Jennifer has seen families quit is the fear that their child will not get the education they need. While homeschooling is not for everyone, we're here today to unpack the lie that your child is guaranteed to get a better education in a more formal system.
Children want to learn. They are naturally curious, capable of information retention, and interested in the world around them. So often the formal education that we think is "safe" offers little in the way of real life skills, kills curiosity, and creates performers, not learners.
Instead, we talk about raising whole children, whose lives are shaped by their values, not their education level because education can always be acquired while values must be instilled from a young age. Practically, everything your child needs to know academically can be acuired in a 100 hours of education. Besides, when you step back from fear and look at the general education level of the American population do you really think that your child is going to receive a better education in a system that is producing a population where 1 in every 5 adults is illiterate.

Welcome to episode 183 with Katy Joy Wells!
Katy is a decluttering coach who took her holistic training and used it to help women declutter their lives.
This is a fantastic episode about what clutter does to our brain, the traps we commonly fall into that keep us holding on to an extra mason jar, the scrap bag of fabrics, or the almost empty pens "just in case" or "for an emergency."
For Katy, her life started changing when she realised the clutter around the house was holding her back from being present for her kids. What are the extra things in your home holding you back from? Or maybe its not holding you back, but it's adding an extra level of noise or stress or demands to your already full plate.
This episode was practical, giving you small steps you can use right now to start cutting back on spending, moving stuff out of your home that is keeping you trapped cleaning, or giving you permission to let go of belongings as part of your identity or a way you cope.

The result is her newest book How to Love Your Morning: Faith Filled Habits to Build a Life of Joy and Purpose One Day at a Time.
We don't often think of mornings through the lens of how God views them, but so much of scripture is God calling people out to connect with him or go with him in the morning. But how can we have a great morning when we arrive at it carrying the stress, dissapointment, or sleeplessness of the previous day? Work is essential for things like hand-eye coordination, a sense of self-esteem and belonging in children, and a core building block for future success.

Welcome to episode 170 of the Restoration Home Podcast! We are delighted to have Justin Whitmel Earley, author of Habits of the Household and his newest book The Body Teaches the Soul.
We live in a time where mental health issues are chronic, stress. is high, and whatever we might believe about the goodness of God, we often live in a highly anxious state with habits that deny any belief in the goodness of God.
This conversation with Justin is incredible. He brings scripture backed research to illustrate the importance of breathing, sleep, and why our habits inform our soul. We were created to be still before God, with brains that can create and dream with God, and breath that can reduce stress. So often we live with habits that stress us out and keep us running on empty.

Books shape the way we view the world, they even change how we narrate the experiences of our life. When we read a book with a happy and courageous heroine, we began to narrate or describe our lives through the lens of being happy and courageous women.
In 2025, we loved the Emma M. Lion books for the gentleness and joy and whimsy they brought into our lives.
We loved Ronald Rolheiser for the lessons on community, and Isola for the lessons in forgiveness and courage.
Now, in 2026 we're excited for a new list of books we're reading through and learning from, and new heroines who can shape our character.

Welcome to episode 162 with Evegniia Arasim. Evgenia joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about nourishing your body and your spirit during the Holidays. The Holidays can be so much about celebration that it can we almost feel pressure to "celebrate", sometimes to the detriment of our peace, our health, nourishing our bodies, and feeding our souls. `
This episode is all about ways you can nourish yourself body, soul, and spirit by enjoying good food in the Holidays in a way that maximises health and feeling good, removing distractions in lieu of rest, carving out quiet time with God, and choosing long term nourishment over immediate pleasure.

Growing up, Christmas was magical. My parents made first things first, and gave us consistently quiet, deeply magical, family-centred, Christ-focused Christmases. As I grew up, I realised how truly rare this was, as so many friends expressed distaste for the holidays because their parents were stressed, or they were introverts dragged from event to event.
So often, we get caught up in the hustle of the Season, missing both its true symbolism and losing opportunities to carve out truly life-giving memories for our families. Jennifer's step by step guide to making Christmas, hosting, giving, and gifts simple, priorities focused and delightful is the perfect way to step into the Season. Enjoy!

When we're little, friendships are built around being in the same place together, whether through school, church, or family gatherings. However, as we get older, friendships become increasingly more important and, sometimes, harder to build. Friendships, and the community built around them, are a cornerstone of both our Christian faith, well-being, and doing life well. So, how do we build great friendships, steward the ones we have, and remain resilient and tender through the ups and downs of community?

Sarah Boyd's book "Turn Down the Noise" addresses the neural breakdown that happens when we are overwhelmed, distracted, and depleting our pre-frontal cortex. It is an incredible conversation between Jennifer and Sarah about the limitations of our brain, the costs of devices on parents and children, the importance of rest, and 5 principles to reverse degenerating attention span, reduce distraction, and restore mental peace.
Sarah presents the overwhelm inherent in modern life as the missing piece when we are examining dysfunction in our life that maybe counselling, better food, or more sleep isn't fixing. Also, the future needs children who are imaginative and creative, and these are skills that are developed in space and quiet not through reams of work and activities.

Ian Morgan Cron, author of Chasing Francis and Jesus, My Father, the CIA and Me, joins Jennifer Pepito to discuss his newest book The Fix. It is a beautiful book about healing addictions and the spiritual growth that can be found through the 12 step program.
So often in Christian culture, we are quick to categorise addictions as the painfully obvious like alcohol, porn, food addictions, anger, but co-dependency on our spouses or our children, addiction to control, addiction to negative thinking, to complaining are also addictions. All of these can shroud our lives in a grey weightiness, damage our relationships, and steal our joy. The Fix which dives into the 12 steps and how, when we start with laying our burden at the feet of Jesus and admit we cannot carry it all, we can begin to heal.

Emily Wilson Hussem, author of Sincerely, Stoneheart, joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about the lies plaguing women, why it matters that we carve out quiet time, protect our mothering time from distractions, and learn to walk in the truth of what God says about you.
As women, we have beautiful, fertile imaginations, and it is what allows us to see our children as future doctors, creators, homesteaders, and lovers of God. The downside of the imagination is that it makes us more susceptible to believing lies and meditating on fearful things. Emily and Jennifer both share their story with fear and the ways they are pursuing the truth of what God says about who they are, and allowing His Words to define their thoughts and feelings rather than the enemy.

Welcome to episode 137 with Julia Ubbenga, the author of Declutter Your Heart and Your Home. Episode 136 of is a return of our beloved friend Leah Boden and the author of Modern Miss Mason. Leah is back on the #restorationhomepodcast to talk about her incredible new writing project, middle school biographies of heroes of the Restoration Home: C.S. Lewis and Charlotte Mason.
Leah and Jennifer talk about the life lessons learned from Mason and Lewis's lives, which were Christ centered and focused on faithfulness and inspired by God's calling on their lives. This is an incredible conversation for the whole family about having great heroes of the faith and a Christ centered education.
They discuss the role of Charlotte Mason in an education that is story and narrative based. Charlotte Mason education isn't about reading as many books or cramming as much information into our children as possible. Instead, we are stewarding an education that fills them with a deep sense of identity, discernment of good and evil, and the ability to continue learning their whole lives.

Heartfelt obedience to God and those in authority over us, is one of the powerful sanctifiers of a believer and joyful obedience is a powerful outcome of our love for Christ. (John 14:15). But it is scary; the connotation is negative, and many of us are scarred by it, or are so protective of our happiness, dreams, ideal world that obedience at the cost of any of these is an untenable prospect. Even though some broken people have ruined "obedience", this does not give us the right to reject the practice or virtue of obedience in our personal lives.
Where do we go from here though, how do we practice obedience? How do we train children in obedience while being attuned and tender parents? More importantly, how do we heal our hearts around obedience?
Episode 132 with Emelie Pepito is full of stories from the arc of obedience in the Pepito family, the comfort of God as we grow in obedience, and being the leader you want to have.

We have an incredible guest for episode 130, author John Eldredge. John wrote Wild at Heart which gave Jennifer the courage to follow her husband to Mexico. His Pause App has been a huge part of teaching us to slow down, listen and learn to commune with Jesus in the deep intimacy that we are created to live in. Over the years of homeschooling, growing as individuals, and a family, we have been so blessed by John's work.
We hope that this episode blesses you, gives you the courage to remove distractions from your life so you can press into the quiet place and encounter Christ's healing and his comfort. We pray that you are inspired to seek greater rest, and enjoy more intimacy, and build the habits to make Christ your first port of call in the daily stress, anxiety and fear that so often overwhelms us as mom's in the grind and travails of daily life.

The majority of our life is lived not on the mountain tops or in the harvest, but in the sustained and steadfast toil that tends to the gardens and climbs the mountains. It is in the plodding toil that we are most likely to lose joy, focus, or find our purpose eroded across the grind of every-day reality, decision making, squabbling children, disappointment and loneliness. However, as Christians' steadfast joy is part of our inheritance, if we are willing to lay hold of it.
"Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."
Nehemiah 8:10
Episode 129 with Emelie Pepito is full of practical ways we can grow our sustained joy. It ranges from learning to keep promises to ourselves so we can ensure a sense of security for ourselves, to prioritising hugs from our husbands, to having the self-discpline to cut things out that steal our joy, and protect our body from dopamine crashes, inflammation, and sleeplessness.

Welcome to Episode 128 of the Restoration Home Podcast. Greta Eskridge joins Jennifer to talk about her new book, It's Time to Talk to Your Kids About Porn. This is a heavy topic, but one that must be discussed, especially as more and more often we learn that addiction stems from a lack of attunement and attachment in young children, which manifests as addiction in our teens and adults. So the process of teaching our children about so pervasive an addiction and giving them a strong sense of compassion, curiosity, and comfort as they face the ever increasing stresses of life must start when they are young.
Greta and Jennifer bring so much honesty, vulnerability, and experience to this conversation. They address the extremes of of shame or the positions that say porn, or any other comfort strategy that abridges our pursuit of God or acquisition of comfort in a healthy way, is acceptable.
Heads Up: The conversation in this episode is between two moms, and its content is not designed for young listeners.
There was an audio issue, and the content was too good to miss, but was apologise for any annoyance.

Dana K White, the creator of A Slob Comes Clean, and author of many books on how to go from chaotic and cluttered brings such a unique perspective to Episode 126 of the Restoriaton Home.
At the core of her message is the gospel truth that being clean and tidy doesn't bring you any closer to God, and being messy and chaotic doesn't push you farther away from Him. As Dana says: this isn't an excuse to have a messy house, but it should remove shame and remind us that nothing we do or don't do can add or detract from God's love for us and presence in our lives.
As we deal with the shame around whatever perceived lack we are operating in, we can begin to build those small habits and changes that will transform our external world to be more orderly, peaceable, and pleasant to be in. Dana's website, books, and Instagram are full of simple, gentle ways to start transforming your life one small piece at a time.
God is not in a rush with our process and neither should we be.

Chelsi Jo Moore, creator of the Systemize Your Life podcast, joins Jennifer Pepito for episode 125! As I have gotten older, I have realised more and more that the best parts of my life come from some automated back process and that having systems gives me time for what I love. But sometimes, knowing what system to create or how to start can be overwhelming! Chelsi Jo has made it her business to help moms maximise productivity through improved efficiency so that more of our mental space is free to connect with our children, build our dream business, or pursue our dream hobby.
We only have a finite amount of creative problem-solving energy every day. We can't keep using that precious energy putting out fires that could have been prevented through better systems, more thorough planning, or simply cutting out the unimportant stuff. Instead, we want to create a life with energy left at the end of the day to connect with our spouses, have those late-night conversations with our teenagers, and have that early morning gym session that makes us feel so alive.
We hope you walk away from this conversation inspired, invigorated, and ready to shape your life rather than be shaped by it.

At the Peaceful Press, we receive so many questions on how to homeschool your child through high school. High school is the last step before how we taught our children and what we taught them is really tested. Increased requirements and laws governing high school can also make it seem like too bit an endeavour to undertake at home or like our children are going to miss out on an essential part of a high school education. With these additional internal and external pressures, it is easy to abandon a living education and dump our teens into the grind of traditional high school test taking.
It doesn't have to be that way though, and test taking does not equal an education. Join Jennifer Pepito and her 27 years of homeschool experience and 6 high school graduates as she walks you through motivation to keep homeschooling and what to plan for in highschool. There is no size fits all, but we hope this episode inspires you to find the size that fits well for your family.

Welcome to episode 113 with Jennifer Pepito and special guest Cleere Cherry Reeves of Cleerely Stated.
Cleere and Jennifer talk about declarations, intentional living, creating order, and stewarding the internal atmosphere of our home. This is all about living with margin, ignoring pressures, or could haves or should haves, and prioritising connection over perfection.
Our minds and emotions depend on our words and the stories we allow ourselves to meditate on. We must change our words and our world to better represent the truth of who God says we are and His goodness in our present situation, and He offers us the gift of change through His grace and healing.

Growing up, we would transition from the regular homeschool schedule during December and move towards crafting, Christmas Cookie exchanges, nature walks, and time reading together as a family. We made clay decorations, popcorn balls, and cranberry garlands.
The wonderful thing about creativity and a creative Christmas is it isn't age or time-dependent. You can make orange garlands with your adult children, bath salts with your grandkids, and clay ornaments with your children.

"Children are born persons." Charlotte Mason
Jennifer has been parenting since the 90s, and she and Scott's research and parenting styles have run the gamut over their 7 children and three decades. The one thing consistent from the early days of strict parenting to more permissive parenting is to focus on building character and connection. One thing that was consistent across all those years and styles of parenting. It was their intense love for their children and their enjoyment of each one as a person.
The one thing they learned over all those years is that there is no formula for parenting. Still, there is so much we can learn and be encouraged in.
Amy Nyvall, a coach with Connected Families, joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about parenting through connection and attunement without sacrificing standards. This is one of our longer podcasts because the topic and conversation were just that good. We hope you enjoy episode 111 and walk away with more ideas to connect with your children this season.

Many of my adult friends have an ambivalent relationship with the Christmas season. Why is that? It's often because their mothers were stressed and anxious about achieving a "perfect Christmas."
In a recent discussion, Diane Boden, the creator of the Minimalist Mom's Podcast, joined Jennifer Pepito to talk about how to create a minimalist Christmas. The focus is on planning, creating meaningful moments for your family, and choosing what brings you joy and connection.
During the holiday season, there are numerous external pressures—from the vast selection of Christmas decorations at stores like Target to expectations from family and the community. It's easy to say yes to everything, buy more than you need, or feel guilty about your actions.
Don't let yourself fall into that trap. Avoid letting the pursuit of the "perfect holiday season" turn you into a frazzled mom. Instead, aim for simplicity so your children aren't left wishing for more relaxed times and a happier mom.

Sometimes, in the nitty gritty of parenting, we get so focused on what isn't happening, or we focus on our current "reality" rather than the promises of God. This can cause us to spiral into fear, control, panic, and reactionary decision-making. Our children are the actual sufferers when we allow this spiral to happen. What would happen if, instead, we started to step back in those moments and ask God to show us what he is doing or asked him for advice on how to deal with or respond to a learning struggle, a child with hard-to-manage emotions, or any one of the plethora of problems that come up in life? What if we learned to tune in and attach to our children
The wonderful Deb Weakly, creator of Help Club for Moms, joins Jennifer to talk about how big God is, his faithfulness, and the process of trusting him in our parenting and mothering story. There is so much hope in this episode, and we hope that wherever you are in your parenting journey, you are blessed by this conversation.

Welcome to episode 105 of the Restoration Home Podcast. What a conversation we have for you today.
We had the honour of hosting Katy Faust of the "Them Before Us" movement. She comes on with heart-hitting facts about the cost of divorce, the crisis in a divorce generation, and the irreplaceable role of fathers.
Today, 50% of divorces are over low-level conflicts that build, and the long-term cost of a self-serving "happiness' decision is our children's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Katy and Jennifer offer advice on better communicating with our husbands, the point of fathers, and the importance of putting our children first in every decision.

We are delighted to welcome Sally Clarkson back to the Restoration Home Podcast! She is a dear friend and our first repeat guest on the podcast. She has recently published a new book, Well Lived: Shaping a Legacy of Gratitude and Grace.
Her newest book is a memoir and an inspiration to mothers young and old, new and veteran. She joins Jennifer to talk about living a life of generosity and faithfulness. We often live our lives going from goal post to goal post, waiting until we've "arrived" or we're "done". However, as wives and mothers of faith, the journey is life itself, and we're called to run well until the run is complete.
Sally Clarkson's gentleness and wisdom, shared through her personal stories, is a wonderful encouragement, and we are so excited to offer this episode to our community.

Alyssa Bethke, author of When Doing it All is Undoing You, joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about how to avoid burning out in the pursuit of being a great parent. Sometimes we forget that offering our best to our children can only come when we have first taken care of ourselves emotionally, spiritually, and physically. This can feel challenging in the early days of motherhood, but it is so essential to carve out this time for the sake of our children and our family.
This is a beautiful and practical conversation for moms at every stage of parenting and motherhood.

What if homeschooling was hard simply because there were still some areas where past pain continued to steal the joy and whimsy from our present life? And what if taking our precocious, intelligent 4-year-old from preschool to 12th grade, without turning them into "barely interested test takers", was possible? What if everything we thought about education was a myth? What if a little more balance and less stress could have a whole lot of impact?
In this delightful episode 101, Emelie and Jennifer talk about balance, baking bread, homeschooling, how life can steal our joy, why traditional workbook studies for our kids are detrimental to cultivating intelligence and much more.
This episode is for every mom with a deep love for her family and a lot of work to get through daily. We understand that life is demanding, but it doesn't have to be draining. Welcome to Episode 99. Join Jennifer Pepito on a solo episode about crafting a homeschool mission statement. There is so much pulling at our attention and every "yes" is a "no" to something else, and every "no" opens up new opportunities to say "yes" to something better for your family down the road. But until we have a clear idea of our values for why we are homeschooling and what we want our family to look like, we can end up saying "yes" and "no" to the wrong things because we get caught up in the emotion or pressure of the moment.
This is a practical, beautiful, informative episode that will inspire you to start this school year with a fresh vision and develop the tools and skills to prioritize what really matters to you over the school year and beyond.

Durenda Wilson author of Raising Boys to Men and creator of Simply Unhurried and the Durenda Wilson Podcast joins Jennifer Pepito for an incredibly podcast all about boys. This episode is about creating a space and mindset that is hospitable towards our sons. Their mindsets and energy levels, the way in which they are wired, are different from our daughters, different from ourselves and in a society that prioritises soft, social skills the energy and aggression that little boys carry is often misunderstood and punished instead of being channelled and regulated to help our sons thrive in life.
Episode 94 is a practical guide for raising sons in a world where masculinity has become a confusing subject, and the role of men has changed drastically in the last 100 years. Never before have our sons needed our support in becoming great men, and this podcast is an excellent place to start.

Home education through elementary is fairly undaunting and highly enjoyable. When high school rolls around, the pressure to socialise children and prepare them for careers, college, and life begins to amp up, and uncertainty about how equipped we are to tackle the job at hand or even if it's a good idea in the first place can weigh us down.
Whether you're considering homeschooling through high school, in the midst of it, or looking for fresh ideas after homeschooling your third child, this episode is a goldmine of practical advice.
Carrie De Francisco, a fellow homeschooling parent, founder of Coffee with Carrie, and author of the newly released Homeschool High School, joins Jennifer Pepito in episode 86. Together, they delve into the world of homeschooling, high school, community building, and restoring relationships.

Silent to do lists, Pinterest meal pressure, self-care standards, religious pressures, we are surrounded by so many voices putting external pressures on us. The unfinished baseboards, the 400 recipes in your Pinterests food boards, the weights in the corner of your room, the unused gym membership. What if part of a restored life was learning to identify and reduce these clamouring gremlins that are trying to steal our joy and reduce the simplicity of what Christ has called you to in whatever stage of parenting or life you are in?
Join Jennifer and Emelie Pepito in episode 85 as they discuss these silent to do lists, how simplicity gives us space to breath, the importance of values, and how understanding who God is as a loving Father can take us from stressed and overwhelmed to a glorious adventure with a loving God who has our backs.

Whenever I read a book by Elizabeth Goudge, I am transported into a world of everyday heroines and heroes that inspire me to live with a little more beauty and graciousness in my everyday life.
Episode 84 with Elsie Ludicello has the same effect. The wisdom and tender authority she carries, the way she talks about her marriage and husband, the graceful way she sets boundaries of community within her family, and her understanding of seasons, offers a refreshing and inspiring view of an orderly life for our community.

Submission has become a polarising word. For those of us who were raised under hyper-religious structures in the 80s and 90s, submission was framed in medieval terms. For some, it's one of those things in the Bible, that we simply lay aside as archaic, along with the commandment for women to go outside of the city whilst on their period. For others, it conveys a whole world of hurt and manipulation.
But what is submission, really? Is it necessary? And does it have anything to do with building an orderly, fulfilling, and joy filled marriage?
Welcome to episode 83! Emelie and Jennifer begin to tackle some of these questions, and talk about thankfulness, submission, Laura Doyles six step to intimacy, and so much more.

Morning time is a huge part of the rhythm of the Peaceful Press. It's a daily time set aside each morning to connect as a family, read great literature, but most importantly it's the time where we pray and connect with God as a community and the body of Christ.
But how do we do that, what does it look like?
Jennifer has been doing morning time with her family for 25 years, and she is joined in episode 79 with Emelie Pepito as they talk about their family morning time, what they've learned, and how it's affected them, and the beauty that having a time of prayer each morning does for the atmosphere of the home across the day.

“For prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.” – Teresa of Ávila
Welcome to episode 77. Jennifer and Emelie come together to talk about prayer. Prayer is a habit essential to our walk as mothers. We are entrusted with the care of souls, and how can we do that without constant communion with God?
Not only that, but our Christian faith gives us open access to a loving God who speaks to us as individuals and the body of Christ, encourages, exhorts, guides us in our daily decisions, comforts us in our stress and distress, and is a "very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

If you were dropped into an alpine meadow with a large picnic hamper full of C.S. Lewisesque fruits and foods, and your children, would you have the most delicious day of your life? Imagine this meadow has a stream, and you don't have a phone or a computer; it's you and your children in the most pristine and quiet setting imaginable.
Would you have the best day of your life? Or would the silence and spacious emptiness of such a day make you feel uneasy? Do you think something important might not be getting done? For me, the thought of having such an unproductive day fills me with a low level of anxiety.
What if in our busyness and overstimulation, we are missing an invitation to connect with Jesus? What if there is a level of Shalom on offer for our homes that requires us to prioritise empty space in our daily lives?

Episode 73 marks the beginning of a four week segment on stewardship. Jennifer and Emelie start with the most basic stewardship, our hormones, specifically progesterone!*
Progesterone is the hormone that prepares your body for pregnancy at the end of your cycle. When you have enough of it, you should feel calm and nurtured in the days running up to your cycle. But stress, crowded schedules, busy school loads, and trying to do everything can derail our progesterone production.
Why does this matter? When we don't steward our hormones properly across our cycle, we start using cortisol and adrenals to function. This causes long term stress on our body, reducing our capacity to handle bigger life stressors that come our way because we have used everything up trying to over perform during the progesterone (Luteal Phase) of our cycle.
Addressing this is about learning micro stewardship of our emotions and progesterone across the cycle.
Micro emotional stewardship is learning to connect with God in the middle of a emotion and ask:
Is this feeling true or is it an emotion that's coming up and related to some old pain or lie about the goodness of God, the love of my husband, or God's sufficiency? (Memorise Psalm 23)
Is this feeling something physical–hormonal, exhaustion, poor diet choice, stress?
Is my reaction to this feeling going to bring connection or disconnection?
Progesterone stewardship is learning to identify the foods and care your body needs in the last 10 days of your cycle.
*None of this is medical advice, nor is it intended to be.

How do you feel when you're doing the dishes, weeding in the garden, working for a paycheck, folding laundry, paying the bills, making dinner for a close friend you're excited to see, or packing for your dream trip?
Do you know what these things have in common? They are work. But we have very different feelings associated with each one. Dishes, laundry, weeding are alternately exhausting, relaxing, or frustrating. Making dinner for our close friend or a loved one, packing for a dream holiday, it's exhilirating, fun, and a joy.
In episode 69, Jennifer and Emelie dive down into the mindsets, lies, fears, and feelings we get when it comes to work, how we can change our mindset around the most mundane tasks, and begin to enjoy work as a better part of being alive.

Sally Clarkson is a dear friend and long awaited guest of the podcast. Her long years of mothering, and her pursuit of sacred living for mind, body and spirit, has made her an enduring motherhood figure.
In episode 67, she joins Jennifer to talk about planting a flag in the ground of your heart that says: from this point forward, I will no longer listen to lies, I will no longer live according to my fears, but according to the goodness of God, and His truth.
There is more than just symbolism to this gesture though. There is planning, and dreaming and executing the vision of what that might look like for your unique life. Jennifer and Sally talk about how to go about planting that flag, and creating a vision and course of action to support a life that is lived bravely, gently, and in truth.

It's the beginning of 2024, and we are opening The Restoration Home Community. We are so excited for this next year of habit building and community.
"Why" you might ask. Well, habits, community, looking your children in the eye, a few more family dinners is about more than a nicer life or happier children, a cleaner house, more time to exercise. These are all parts of building something beautiful and sustaining that can carry ourselves and our families through whatever lies ahead.
In preparation for the community and podcast line up for 2024, Jennifer and Emelie came together to talk about community, restoration, and how you can save the world by eating dinner as a family. But ultimately, we're excited about how growing habits of thankfulness, prayer, quiet can bring us closer to God and bring greater wholeness to our day to day lives.

How can the principles of a Charlotte Mason education help you love God and create an elevated wholesome family?
Charlotte Mason wrote of education, "We allow no separation to grow up between the intellectual and 'spiritual' life of children...". The unity between a child's spiritual growth and their intellectual development has led Jennifer, over the years, to create the Peaceful Press and with her husband, curate a home environment that focuses on "whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy...".(Phil 4:8)
But what does the home environment have to do with education? What do we mean when we talk about not separating a child's spiritual life from their education?
In this solo episode, Jennifer does a delightful and well researched job of explaining the philosophy behind the Peaceful Press education method, and its role in restoration.
Finally, we are so excited to announce that the Restoration Home Community is NOW OPEN. Join Jennifer for a year of habit building through Jennifer's new book "Habits for a Sacred Home". One thing we have learned is that community is so important for growing in our habits and acheiving our goals, and we're excited to build community around sacred habits in 2024.

With 2023 drawing to a close and 2024 beginning, there are things we can do to process, grieve, celebrate the past year, so we can approach the new year with hope, vision, and excitement.
Jennifer and Emelie come together in Episode 63 to share how they process the past year, and plan for the next year.
This episode covers personal stories and ideas for the processes of welcoming in the new year. They cover the importance of dreaming with God for the year, setting aside time to grieve dissapointment, failure, and frustrations from the year so we can understand God's perspective on us and our year. They talk about learning to hear from God as a friend who wants to speak with and join us in our dreaming.
The episode is also full of practical and beautiful ideas for making goals. You can write a eulogy so each year you set goals around how you want to be remebered. Setting fun goals like what do I want to learn, what books do I want to read, are great for finding ways to grow and learn something that privides life giving creativity or opportunities to learn and rest.
Finally, we are so excited to announce that the Restoration Home Community is opening in January for a year of habit building through Jennifer's new book "Habits for a Sacred Home". One things we have learned is that community is so important for growing in our habits and acheiving our goals, and we're excited to build community around sacred habits in 2024.

Is technology a tool or a toy, good or bad? What role does the arts play in technology? Can technology play a part in restoring homes?
Ryan Collins, president of Bethel Tech, joins Jennifer in Episode 62 to answer these questions and so much more. There is a place for connection over video games, and the arts are the bedrock to a career in technology, just as they are for other aspects of a child's development into a well rounded human. Ryan also brings to the podcast a passion for righteous principles in the work force, his excitement for tech careers opportunities that skip years of college and debt, and his experience as a homeschool dad building a family culture of intentionality.

One of the values of restoration is creativity. Architecture is creativity, making a budget go farther than you thought is creativity, cooking a beautiful meal, scheduling your day so you have time for what is important to you, and so much more require creative actions. At the root of creativity is "create", which means "to make or bring into existence something new". Creativity is producing something which is not obvious or already there.
While creativity can range from perfecting organization in a small space to a Degas painting, one thing all creative actions have in common is the need for white space, quiet space, empty space to provide the downtime needed for creativity.
This week Jennifer Pepito is joined by Ashlee Gadd the creator of Coffee and Crumbs and author at the Coffee and Crumbs Substack. I was recently in San Francisco, and I drove from the airport to Poplar Beach in Half Moon Bay. The change as I moved closer to the ocean, the expanses of green, the hills, the empty space, I could feel myself starting to breathe again. You might not be fortunate enough to live in an area where you can walk barefoot on the beach in December, but no matter what climate you live in, Episode 59 is full of beautiful ways to enjoy and observe the quiet and rest found in nature across the Holiday season.
Lynn Seddon of Raising Little Shoots and the guide Exploring Nature with Children joins Jennifer Pepito to talk about creating a natural Christmas. How we can use the flora and fauna around us to bring seasonal nature into our homes, how it can bring connection, quiet our souls in a rushed season through multidimensional sensory input, and fill our homes with the beauty of the winter season.

As deep cold and long nights approach, the painted turtle burrows deep, stills its breathing, and disappears into quietude for 6 months. It was the story of the Painted Turtle's waiting period that first inspired Gayle Boss to create the All Creation Waits book that inspired the Peaceful Press's Unearthing Wonder Advent Guide.
Now we welcome Gayle Boss onto Restoration Home for a conversation about the inspiration and birth of "All Creation Waits". Gayle talks about waiting, about seasonal depression not as something shameful, but as the bodies response to the season and the need to cuddle in, to still the whirl of activity we dwell amidst, and let our souls rest.
Sometimes, you wake up and suddenly realise your soul is heavy and so often we'll medicate that heaviness, when we need to clear the deck to let ourselves sink deep into the mud like a painted turtle and experience deep quiet.
In this season, what would leaning into rest look for you? What does your soul need, what does the heartbeat of your family need?

In this episode, Jennifer Pepito and Emelie Pepito have a mother-daughter conversation about parenting. As a family, Scott and Jennifer practiced and researched many parenting approaches across 30 years and 7 children. While the parenting methods may have changed, their love for their children, and their intentionality were steadfast.
Episode 55 is a deep, personal, and tender look at what parenting is and isn't and how to seek restoration rather than perfection for ourselves and our children. Finally, you are who your children need and sometimes it's the less-than-perfect areas in our lives that equip our children in ways we maybe couldn't imagine.

Cameras clicking, children laughing, turkey roasting, presents yet to be wrapped, quietude of "silent night, holy night". The holidays are a magical moment of our year, where we set aside time and energy to celebrate, remember, enjoy, and connect with family and friends. Yet in all that beauty, it's often a time when stress, past hurt, present pain, the desire to create something magical for our spouse, children, loved ones, and dirty laundry can become a monumental practice exacerbating lies we believe about ourselves, God, and our ability to be connect and be present with those who really matter.
Join Joy Prouty, author of Practicing Presence and Jennifer Pepito to talk about how the process of becoming present creates connection, and offers restorative practices for engaging in the difficult tasks of life. With both practical steps for stepping back from the madness to find the beauty, return to present, and capture the moment, as well as a gentle understanding of how stressful life can be, but how good and sufficient God is, this episode is a perfect forerunner to the holidays and the rest of your life.
Enjoy!!

Abbie Halberstadt is the author of M is for Mama and Hard is Not the Same as Bad joins Jennifer Pepito for a timely conversation about "hard": hard family relations, hard pasts, hard parenting days, and doing "hard" in a culture that wants easy.
Often we are looking for ways to minimise or fix our life, so that it's simple, organised, smooth, life giving, wholesome, or brings us joy. But there are many hard things we cannot change, like the people we work with, stressful holiday interactions, days when our children are unsettled, bad news.
Abbie brings a beautiful, God-filled perspective to "hard" from her own life as she and Jennifer talk about all of the things that we encouter on the daily, and finding God in the midst of it. It is an incredible, refreshing conversation that reminds us that with God we are more than capable to live fully in the midst of hard things.

Celebrations and traditions are ways we connect and remember the goodness of God in our lives. For all of time, cultures have built feasts and parties around significant events. As Christians, many of us find profound enjoyment and beauty in celebrations like Easter and Christmas as we remember Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection. And then we have cultural holidays, like Thanksgiving in America or Guy Fawkes in the UK. Most of us have family traditions we celebrate, and the memories and celebrations of our youth have a profound impact on us.
From early on Jennifer and her family began celebrating Passover in place of Easter, and as time and learning unfolded begin introducing and celebrating more of the Jewish Feasts into their year. On this podcast Sarah Ruth of Kindled Togetherness joins Jennifer to talk about the beauty of the Jewish Feasts and their celebration of Christ from the Passover Lamb to the Feast of Booths and the sojourning as we eagerly wait for the Lord’s return.
This is not a religious conversation, it’s a beautiful discussion between two moms and lovers of Jesus about the role remembering and celebrating what God spelled out in the feasts He gave the Israelites and how we can enjoy and celebrate them in our homes today.

It’s okay to process out loud, but always leave your children with a hopeful statement like, “mommy is feeling overwhelmed right not, but I know God will carry us through”.

In our family, Emelie's journey with anorexia was the first indicator that having a Family Rule did not create a 1+1=2 journey. In some seasons, your family rules, and the boundaries and stability we put into place to foster godly, joy filled children will look like it's failing. But is the family rule failing, or is God too good to allow "goodness" to replace "holiness".
Goodness is simply good behaviour, holiness is when we've allowed ourselves to be sanctified from the inside out, nothing hidden, nothing broken.
Episode 42 is an incredible conversation between Jennifer and Emelie about what happens when a family rule seems to fail.

Building a rule of life is about the practical culmination of the last 10 months into a vision board for how to take what you're learning, and make it your own. A huge part of the ongoing struggle we face in doing so is comparison and becoming sidetracked by other people's "spaces".
Or maybe you're building a family vision and you're not being sidetracked by other people, but you are making a plan that is contained and measured by your limitations, fears, and vows. In doing so, are you ignoring the space and vision that God wants to assign to you in order to grow, heal, broaden, and restore?
In Ep. 39, Heather MacFadyen of the Don't Mom Alone Podcast joins Jennifer for the second part of how to build a rule for you and your family. The conversation is so beautiful as both women share experiences from their past, and remember how God has shown up give them not just a vision but one where God remains firmy at the centre.

Whether your child is 3, 5, 9, 13 or 17, you are probably already confronted with, "But Sally gets to stay up late, eat this, do that, go here, fill in the blank." Two episodes ago, Jennifer and Emelie talked about how Order has become something often associated with control. Control often comes from a broken place, as we try to make our world and environment safe, familiar, and unchanging. Or if our parents were orderly, bordering on control, we shy away from order because it felt like manipulation and fear.
But Godly order is worship of an orderly God.
In this episode, Emelie and Jennifer hit all sorts of delicious topics like what is patriarchy, matriarchy? How has control of what life should look like, instead of order that tends our garden, hurt our joy and stability. Finally, before you assume it's a patriarchy, are you using a matriarchy to uphold a patriarchy? At the end of the day the only place we can create an abundance of order is when we start tending to the intimate places of our heart.

Join Jennifer and Mary DeMuth author of Love, Pray Listen, as they talk about how our internal order has more to do with our children's order than our ability to manage well or enforce outward order. This grows with a willingness to pursue our identity in Christ and let him be our all in all, so that when the day comes, and our children leave the nest and begin making their own decisions, we aren't caught in the trap of believing we can control or "order" their lives. Instead, we can Love, Pray and Listen.

In this episode, Emelie and Jennifer introduce the discipline of order to talk about the ways we hold on and react to past perversions of holy virtues. They discuss the role of humility and repentance in bringing restoration to generations so as families and communities we can embrace order from a place of wholeness not control.

Join Jennifer and Katie Westenberg, author of the book, But Then She Remembered, for Ep. 33. The conversation begins with doom scrolling, what it is and why we are doing it. Doom scrolling, worry, fear for our loved ones, it's so easy to paint these things with a brush of validity. We validate why we allow fear, distraction, and worry to govern so much of our attention. If that sounds familiar to you, this is a beautiful conversation about how to fill your home with praise instead of fear. Part of restoration, part of balance, is putting God back on the throne of our lives, our concerns, and our emotions.

Welcome to episode 30! Jennifer and Emelie discuss the role of balance in our spiritual, personal, and homeschool walk. Balance is not something we often think about when we're looking at spiritual disciplines. Think about it as understanding the season you're in. Are you in a season where you're really pursuing righteousness? Well, is it tempered by an acknowledgement of God's grace? Are you working on grace but forgetting about righteousness? Balance is usually what happens when we stay in step with Christ, because he is looking to bring us into relationship with himself and not another form of religion. When we are on His journey, his leadership creates balance in our lives.

Join Jennifer and Rebecca of the Momlitics Podcast and The Primrose Patriot as they discuss stewarding a child's innocence and their age appropriate exposure to ideas, concepts, and concerns. Episode 28 is a great dialogue about the challenges we face to live with hope and raise children in a secure but not sterile environment. Young children can sense both our fear and distress, so it's not just about avoiding direct exposure, but also how are we stewarding our peace and joy as we take in news and information.

In this episode, Jennifer and Emelie talk about what it looks like to steward our physical and mental well-being. As women, our hormonal cycles and our ability to be emotionally calm are inter connected. Our hormones are balanced through feeling cared for during estrogen production (follicular phase) and feeling mutual companionship during our progesterone (luteal phase). When past experiences make us feel like no one is there for us in hard times, it becomes even more difficult to engage our external world in a way that helps balance our hormones. Responsibility isn't a chore its a priviledge but in order to show up whole and at peace, we need to understand how beautifully complex our bodies are! When we know this, we can figure out how to steward our physical bodies, heal from past pain, and show up as resilient women.

Episode 27 is a wonderful interview with Leah Boden, author of Modern Miss Mason. Jennifer and Leah talk about the process of stewarding a vision of education that encompasses the whole child. They discuss the role of Charlotte Mason in an education that is story and narrative based. Charlotte Mason education isn't about reading as many books or cramming as much information into our children as possible. Instead, we are stewarding an education that fills them with a deep sense of identity, good and evil, and the ability continue learning their whole lives.

Steven Lawson, creator of the Monk Manual and Life Atlas, joins us for the final episode on Prayer. Steven created the Monk Manual as a daily journal to foster being and doing. As Christians on the quest of restoration, the process of being still is part of our prayer life. It also undergirds our parenting, our relationships, and the impact we have on the world. Episode 25 is an incredible look at what we as women and mothers can accomplish when we let go of what we can't control and choose to steward the act of being before God, with our children, and in the sometimes hectic grind of day to day life.

Welcome to episode 22 of Restoration Home. Jennifer and Kris talk about prayer and how to develop a restorative prayer life in the midst of the chaos of day to day life. Life also changes as children grow up, and our illusion of control shifts from fixing a bandaged knee to watching our teenagers drive away for the first time, and truly realising that God alone is in control. Prayer is meditation that allows us to continually stay in the presence of God amidst the lies and fears that would like to swirl in our mind.

Welcome to Ep. 19 of Restoration Home. This is a deeply personal conversation between Jennifer and Emelie about the simple, single-minded spiritual discipline of childlike faith in God as a good Father. We talk about how letting go of past wounds that keep us in states of stress and disintegration can bring a simplistic faith in God's ability to show up where we fail and be the rock we build on. Just as we would clean out our house, we can ask God to help us clean and simplify our hearts and minds.

Episode 18 is all about what simplicity is and what it isn't. Join Jennifer and Evgenia, creator of the Fit Mama Method, as they sort through the kind of simplicity we want and the kind we don't want. Growing up for Evgenia was enforced simplicity, with limited or no choices, and "stores with only cabbage." Evgenia now works as a nutrition and life coach to help mothers learn to live with intentionality and a restored simplicity that operates from values, not reactions. Evgenia brings so much wisdom and insight into our notions of simplicity as mothers and women.
