Penny Stables has lived in Boston Spa for 22 years. She is married with two boys at university. She has 23 years of business experience in sales, marketing and start ups, and now works as a trained Nutritional Therapist. She is the Green Party candidate for both the Wetherby Ward and Elmet & Rothwell constituency. She is a founder and the chair of the Boston Spa, Wetherby & Villages Community Green Group, who started in June 2019 and whose mission is to reduce the community carbon footprint, increase biodiversity and reduce waste in the community. In March 2020 she started the Boston Spa Volunteer Action Group, to help bring together community support to help those self-isolating due to Covid, which is still in operation now helping the elderly and those with mobility issues. She is also active in St Mary’s Church Boston Spa, leading the All Age Worship team. Shahab teaches on several undergraduate modules in the School of Health with a focus on social justice, politics, community development, volunteering, and what it means to be a global practitioner. Shahab comes with a wealth of experience in human rights (Islamophobia in particular), community development & empowerment, campaigning and stakeholder engagement. He has vast experience in media as a radio broadcaster and enjoys improving the digital and political literacy of our students through a media and international development context. Here he shares some Islamic and personal perspective on the Green movement and why it is so important to our futures.
