This course is designed to teach security officers/employees how to use communication to process interpersonal workplace conflict, de-escalate emotions and unsafe behaviors and maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with uncooperative individuals. The course is a combination of in-person and remote video presentations and assessments. Students will master the six-step LEARNS de-escalation communication techniques, to keep interpersonal conflict from escalating or to deescalate it. Students will learn how to accurately analyze behavioral cues and then apply the most appropriate verbal strategies to keep passive aggressive behavior from escalating. Students will have an opportunity to practice the LEARNS techniques and will participate in scenario roleplay to evaluate proficiency.
