Living a Christian life that is faithful to God’s Word can be extremely challenging. Join Grayson, Blake, and Jack as they discuss how to be theologically and biblically relevant in today’s culture. If you (like us) need help navigating through the chaotic noise of our modern age, we invite you to listen in.
Each season will focus on a specific theme/topic with episodes released bi-weekly.
In this episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Jack walks through John 6:44 and considers what Jesus teaches about human depravity, our inability to come to Christ apart from grace, God’s sovereign work in salvation, assurance, and the perseverance of the saints.
What does it mean for the Father to “draw” someone to Christ? How can a Christian know that he or she has been drawn? And if salvation ultimately begins with God rather than us, what does that mean for our assurance?

What does Mormonism teach about grace, works, salvation, and the afterlife?
In the final theological installment of our series on Mormonism, Jack examines the LDS plan of salvation and its emphasis on faithfulness, ordinances, covenants, temple rites, and enduring to the end. He contrasts this system with the biblical doctrine that sinners are justified entirely by the finished work of Jesus Christ.
The episode then walks through the Mormon understanding of eternity, including:
• Premortal existence and mortal life
• Spirit paradise and spirit prison
• Preaching and repentance after death
• The celestial, terrestrial, and telestial kingdoms
• The three levels of the celestial kingdom
• Eternal marriage and exaltation
• Outer darkness and the sons of perdition
• The question of assurance within Mormonism
Although Mormonism frequently uses Christian terminology, it assigns very different meanings to words such as God, Jesus, grace, salvation, heaven, and eternal life. Jack explains why these differences are not secondary disagreements, but matters that strike at the heart of the gospel itself.

Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
In this episode, Jack considers one of the most familiar and comforting phrases in Scripture: “the valley of the shadow of death.” Life can move quickly from green pastures to dark valleys, but Psalm 23 reminds us that the believer is never abandoned there.
The Good Shepherd is with His sheep. He guides, protects, corrects, comforts, and leads them safely through. Through personal reflection, the story of R.F. Gates, and the remarkable survival story of Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance, this episode points us to the comfort of Christ’s presence in suffering and the hope of His victory over death.
Because Jesus laid down His life for the sheep and rose again, death has lost its sting. For the Christian, death may cast a shadow, but it cannot destroy.

This conversation explores the LDS view of the Fall, sin, atonement, grace, works, assurance, and eternal progression. Mormonism often uses Christian language, but the meanings behind those words are radically different from historic biblical Christianity.
Jack and Grayson compare Mormonism’s teaching on Adam and Eve, original sin, ordinances, temple rites, baptism for the dead, and exaltation with the biblical gospel of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
At the heart of the episode is a major contrast: Mormonism points man toward self-exaltation, while biblical Christianity points sinners to the finished work of Jesus Christ.

In this bonus episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Blake is joined by his wife, Jackie, for a personal and practical conversation about their first year of homeschooling.
Blake and Jackie share why homeschooling was never originally their plan, how rising tuition costs forced them to reconsider their options, and why their deeper motivation became much bigger than finances. They talk honestly about the fears they had going in, including feeling unqualified, worrying about time, managing little kids during school, and the ever-present question of socialization.
They also explain why they landed on the Charlotte Mason approach, what drew them to living books, nature study, narration, habit formation, short lessons, and family-style learning. Along the way, they reflect on how homeschooling has shaped their family culture, strengthened sibling relationships, created more outdoor time, and helped them know their children more deeply.
This episode is not presented as a one-size-fits-all formula, but as an encouragement for parents who are considering home education and wondering whether they can really do it.

Does Matthew 16 prove the papacy? In this short bonus episode, Jack examines Rome’s claim that the Pope, as successor of Peter, possesses supreme authority over the universal Church. Looking at Matthew 16 and the Book of Acts, Jack argues that Peter is important and influential — but that Scripture does not present him as supreme over the other apostles.

In this episode, we begin examining Mormon theology and explain why Mormonism is not Christianity in any historic, biblical sense. Using the language of theology, apologetics, and Scripture, we walk through key LDS beliefs about God, Jesus, salvation, exaltation, and pre-mortal existence, showing how Mormonism uses familiar Christian terms but means something entirely different by them.
This conversation is part of our ongoing series on cults, and it gets to the heart of the issue: not just Mormon history, but Mormon doctrine. If you have ever asked whether Mormons are Christians, or how LDS teaching compares to biblical Christianity, this episode will help clarify the differences.

In this episode, Jack sits down with Pastor Braden Patterson to hear his powerful testimony of growing up in Mormonism, coming to faith in Jesus Christ, and now serving as a pastor in biblical Christianity.
Braden shares what life was like in a deeply committed LDS home, how he viewed Christians while growing up, and how Mormon theology shaped his understanding of God, salvation, and purpose. He also explains the crushing burden of works-based religion and the peace he found in the finished work of Christ.
The conversation walks through the turning point that began his departure from Mormonism, the role Scripture played in exposing error, and the dramatic moment when he could no longer deny that Jesus is Lord and God. Braden also gives thoughtful, practical advice for Christians who want to engage Mormons faithfully, biblically, and lovingly.

This is a helpful and sobering conversation about false religion, true conversion, the necessity of sound doctrine, and the beauty of the gospel of grace.
In this episode of Chorus in the Chaos, Jack, Grayson, and Blake begin their two-part look at Mormonism by tracing its history from the life of Joseph Smith to the early growth of the movement. They walk through Smith’s claimed visions, the story of the golden plates, the role of seer stones, the lost 116 pages, the Book of Mormon’s publication, and the conflicts that followed in Missouri and Nauvoo.
This episode is focused on the historical narrative and major events that shaped Mormonism’s beginnings. In the next episode, the guys will shift to the theology of Mormonism and compare its teachings with biblical Christianity.

What does it mean to receive the Kingdom of God like a child?
In this episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Jack walks through Luke 18:15–17, where Jesus rebukes His disciples and welcomes infants and children, declaring that “to such belongs the kingdom of God.” Far from being a sentimental moment, this passage reveals something profound about humility, faith, and how salvation works.
This episode also asks a hard but necessary question:
How might we—parents, churches, and Christians—be hindering children from coming to Jesus today?
Along the way, we examine:
Whether you’re a parent, pastor, or simply wrestling with faith and trust, this episode calls us to lay down pride, abandon self-confidence, and receive the gospel with humility, joy, and faith.

Why does spiritism hold such a powerful grip on people — especially during times of grief, fear, and uncertainty?
In this episode, Blake and Grayson continue their American Cults series by examining the appeal of Spiritism, why Scripture consistently forbids it, and how it distorts good, God-given desires for eternity, comfort, and knowledge.
Through biblical teaching and pastoral reflection, they explore:
Spiritism offers promises it can never keep. The Gospel offers resurrection, peace, and hope that does not fade.

In this episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Jack and Blake dive into one of America’s most unusual and influential cult movements: the rise of spiritualism in the 19th century. Beginning with a biblical narrative—the chilling account of Saul and the Witch of Endor—the episode moves through the dramatic story of the Fox Sisters, the national craze for seances, and the cultural wounds left open by the Civil War.
You’ll discover how spiritualism promised comfort in a time of uncertainty, why it grew so quickly, and even how magician Harry Houdini became its most vocal opponent. Blending historical storytelling, cultural analysis, and theological clarity, this episode shines a light on a movement that still shapes modern (evil) ideas about mediums, ghosts, and “communicating with the dead.”

In this special two-part Thanksgiving bonus episode, Blake and Jack take listeners on a fast-moving, 30,000-foot flyover of the wild, chaotic, and faith-shaping events that led to the Pilgrims boarding the Mayflower and eventually celebrating what we call the First Thanksgiving.
Before the Mayflower ever touched the shores of the New World, England endured a century of political turmoil, religious reform, royal power struggles, public executions, and theological awakening. From Henry VIII’s messy pursuit of an annulment, to Edward VI’s Protestant reforms, to the brutal burnings under Bloody Mary, to Elizabeth’s uneasy religious compromise, and finally to King James and his push for conformity—this episode explores the real forces that shaped the Puritans and the Separatists, and ultimately birthed the Pilgrim story.
This episode aims to help you see Thanksgiving with fresh eyes and a deeper appreciation for the believers who risked everything to pursue biblical worship.

In this short (almost 15-minute) biography episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Jack looks at the remarkable life of The Lion of Princeton, Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield (1851–1921)—one of the great theologians of old Princeton and a towering figure in Reformed thought.
In this episode of The Chorus in the Chaos, Jack reflects on moments in life that divide time—events after which nothing is ever the same. From personal memories of 9/11 to the pivotal scene in Acts 10–11 where the gospel is extended to the Gentiles, we explore how God often works in ways we don’t expect.
Through Peter’s vision, the criticism from the “circumcision party,” and the church’s ultimate celebration of grace, we see how the gospel tears down walls of division and fulfills God’s promises from Genesis to Revelation.
Key Takeaways:* Life-changing moments: both in history and in Scripture, God uses unexpected events to reshape our perspective. * Peter’s example: in humility and patience, he trusted God’s work rather than fighting for his own reputation. * Two responses to God’s grace: criticism and resistance (like Jonah and the circumcision party) or joyful celebration of mercy. * The gospel reconciles: Jews and Gentiles, enemies and friends, all made one in Christ. * Practical encouragement: When God works in ways we don’t understand, we’re called to stay calm, stay humble, and trust Him.
Jack also offers a heartfelt gospel invitation: if you’ve never placed your trust in Christ, now is the time to turn from sin and find peace with God.

Jack encourages those suffering in this bonus episode of the Chorus in the Chaos podcast by exploring Psalm 88. He highlights how the Book of Psalms captures human emotions and experiences, including suffering and hardship. Psalm 88, in particular, is a dark psalm of individual lament written by Heman, a worship leader in ancient Israel.
Jack extracts three key takeaways from Psalm 88 about what it teaches us about suffering: turn to scripture, turn to prayer, and turn to Christ. He emphasizes that while darkness may be present in our lives, the final word for Christians is the finished work of Christ and the hope of resurrection.
In our final episode of Season 2, Grayson and Jack discuss the common struggle of anxiety and worry. They explore the root causes of anxiety, which stem from the fallen nature of humanity and the sinful desire for self-preservation. They emphasize the importance of trusting in God's providence and seeking His kingdom first. The hosts also highlight the distinction between concern and fretting, noting that while it is natural to be concerned about certain aspects of life, it is sinful to allow anxiety to consume us. They explore various biblical examples of anxiety and how individuals in the Bible dealt with their fears. They emphasize the importance of trusting in God's providence and seeking Him in times of anxiety. The conversation concludes with practical steps to combat anxiety, including repentance, casting our fears on the Lord, and preaching God's promises to ourselves.

Jack explores the poetry in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. He highlights the use of juxtaposition, vivid imagery, and dramatic elements to convey the message of the parable. Jack also discusses the sufficiency of Scripture and the poetic beauty of the name Lazarus. The parable serves as a warning about the eternal consequences of sin and the hope found in the gospel.

He examines the ongoing issue of biblical illiteracy, explores the culture's perception of God, delves into God's view of humanity, and criticizes the campaign for failing to present the gospel effectively. In this very special episode of TCITC Podcast, we are joined by pastor, author, and theologian Dr. Mark Jones to discuss the common Christian struggle of backsliding. Dr. Jones recently released a book titled 'The Pilgrim's Regress: Guarding against Backsliding and Apostasy in the Christian Life'. As believers, if we don't take the sin(s) of backsliding seriously, we run the risk of trending toward apostasy.

As much as social media provides opportunities for growth, wisdom, and the advancement of the gospel, it remains a field of landmines. Also, Grayson does his best porky pig impression.

Nearly everyone on earth struggles with how to best manage their time, and Christians are no exception to that rule. Yet the time is short, and our calling is to live wisely in an extremely unwise age. Why then do we have such difficulty redeeming the time, even knowing this? Join Blake and Grayson as they discuss how we must start with a proper theology of time, rooted in the fear of the Lord. Then, and only then, can we develop principles of wisdom that will help us make the most of our days.

Jack, Blake, and Grayson discuss the common Christian struggle of fearing man over fearing God. When we fear man over God, we act in unbelief. This can occur in the fear of physical harm, career concerns, loss of possessions, etc. As Christians, we must aim to learn that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and the lens through which we see the world and its challenges.

We aim to define what a biblical woman is, what she does, what she doesn't do, and ultimately who her hope and faith are in (spoiler alert: it's Jesus). As we approach the midpoint of season 2, this time we tackle the common struggle of contentment. Jack, Grayson, and Blake offer some insight into the struggle, the seriousness of the sin, and how one can learn to be content in the Lord's provision. In this very special episode of TCITC Podcast, Blake, Grayson, and Jack are joined by Barnabas Piper to discuss the struggle of fostering biblical community in the local church. Using Piper's recent book, "Belong: Loving Your Church by Reflecting Christ to One Another", we discuss why it can be so hard to find a biblical-minded community, and how one can work to create it in their own church.

As we wrap our discussion on church discipline, we focus this episode on the actual biblical model/process and the important (often overlooked) role church members are to play. Although formal church discipline is commissioned and carried by the church elders/pastors, members in good standing of that local community have a part as well. Also, Jack badly mispronounces a biblical name.

In this season 1, bonus episode, Grayson and Jack sit down to chat with Mark Lee Dickson. While you may not know Mark's name, you're probably familiar with some of his work. Over the past several years, Mark has labored extensively in the fight against abortion. Mark reminds us that individual Christians can (and do!) make significant differences in their local communities. If you have ever struggled to find practical ways to make a difference, we encourage you to listen to this special episode of The Chorus in the Chaos Podcast.
