For me the answer is, Yes!  Writing 'Olga - A Daughter's Tale'  was so much easier than writing the screenplay.  There's no writing about what the character is feeling or thinking in a screenplay. You must show it through visuals, behaviour, actions, and dialogue.

‘Research is creating new knowledge’. Neil Armstrong.
I started out with the intention of only tracing my mother's family but each new piece of information I acquired led me to want to know a bit more, and what I learnt led me somewhere else until I found myself researching the historical background and culture to both Jamaica and Great Britain, circa late 19th and early 20th century.
For me, researching history is thoroughly addictive and it certainly focused my resolve to write my book, Olga - A Daughter's Tale.

This episode begins with an introduction of how a totally inexperienced writer came late in her life to write a book and screenplay.  It's an account of Marie Campbell's personal journey of the highs, lows, successes and failures of her writing projects which Marie feels may be of use to other new writers, so they can perhaps avoid the pitfalls that Marie fell into.  Marie discusses the things she wished she'd taken the time to learn before embarking on  writing the book and screenplay.
