Pixel Project Radio: Recent Episodes

Pixel Project Radio

Pixel Project Radio is a video game podcast dedicated to doing deep dives and analyzing our favorite games! Each week, we play through a videogame and talk about it in a book club format. We summarize the plot beats while also analyzing the themes, discussing the mechanics, and generally talking about what worked and what didn't for us. We will also occasionally do "topic" episodes, where we discuss broader topics in gaming such as difficulty, music, and more. It's a celebration of all things video games, and whether you're a fan of PC gaming, console gaming, or liked games as a kid, we've got something for you.

"Forgive me. 'Tis your birth and faith that wrong you. Not I."

The critical analysis of Final Fantasy Tactics begins today! Rick is joined by Nomad (The Retro Wildlands) and Chris (Consoles and Stuff) to dissect one of Final Fantasy's most beloved titles. The tale of two young men are woven together by a struggle of class stratification in Ivalice, a nation rent in two by the Lions' War. Episode 1 covers up to the Sand Rat's Seitch and begins with a discussion of the development, the phenomenal score, and, of course, the famous battle system. Hope you love the show today. Who really is the one painting death? And who paints life instead?

The narrative analysis of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues! In this episode, Rick and Thrak (The 3DO Experience! and ThrakOps) cover from leaving Monoco's Station until the beginning of Act III. Renoir poses questions that trouble Verso deeply; is there more to the Dessendre family than we know? Join us for discussion on honesty, the sheer amount of art there is in this life, and the game's central thesis: that of the grieving process. Please enjoy!

"This won't make sense to you now, but we both want what's best for our families. I'm sorry you're caught in the middle. But I did try to warn you."

Rick and Thrak (The 3DO Experience! and ThrakOps) return to continue their narrative analysis of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33! Episode II covers from the first foray into the world map until we meet our last permanent party member shortly into Act II. Puzzle pieces begin fitting together, but they introduce more questions than answers: who is the White-Haired Man? Why does he seem particularly interested in Maelle? And what's the deal with Esquie? The implications of condolences, experiencing loss, narrative framing, and more—please enjoy!

"If you're going to give flowers to someone, you should probably do it before they wither and die."

Today, Rick and Thrak (The 3DO Experience! and ThrakOps) begin their analysis of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33! In this episode, we talk at a general level about the game's visuals, mechanics, music, and symbolism, before diving into our narrative analysis. Here, we cover from the beginning of the game until the introduction to the world map. Hope you love the show today. Please enjoy!

"And when he stared me down, that ghost, I knew he was here to kill me...and why shouldn't he?"

A bombastic, emotional, and somewhat messy finale to our Death Stranding analysis is here, as Rick, along with Nick and Will (Friday Night Gamecast, see the story to its completion. Origins revealed, confessions made, and relationships clarified...along with some questionable mechanics and very questionable (but confident) dialogue. Please enjoy!

"Once there was an explosion. A bang that gave birth to time and space."

This week, Rick is joined by Nick and Will (Friday Night Gamecast) to begin their journey through Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima's 2019 project exploring a broken America and the importance of rebuilding. Isolation, interconnectivity, relationships, the importance of a mail system--there are many themes and ideas explored throughout Sam Porter Bridges's journey. In Part I, we discuss the game as a whole in our preliminary conversation, and follow into and through the Prologue and Episode I. The efficacy of writing, naming conventions, a subversion of gameplay expectations - all this and more, just inside. Rick Podman out.

"What is the worth of a replica, a copy of a copy?"

This week, Rick is joined by Ben (Play Along Podcast) to discuss Signalis, a 2022 survival horror game that pays homage to the influential PS1 era of the same genre. Signalis is a game that seeks to provoke both feeling and thought, boasting a sprawling narrative that is not interested in giving definitive answers to in-universe lore. As is so often the case, though, these clear-cut answers are anything but the point. How far would you go to bring back a loved one?

This week, Rick is joined by Michael (Bits of Time Podcast) to consider the premise of Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. Part visual novel, part adventure game, and part mystery thriller, Paranormasight opens with the question at the core of its story: would you resurrect a loved one if you could? If there were no consequences? How far would you go? This Square Enix title does a lot well - take a listen to hear us talk about the OST, the fantastic art style, and the divisive ending. Nothing can now be ruined. We are the guests of someone gone.

This week, Rick is joined by Chris (1 Hour 1 Decision Podcast) to talk Gris, a 2018 work exploring grief, loss, and acceptance. Though initially unassuming, there's more to Gris than meets the eye. Our conversations focus on two themes: Prescriptivism vs Descriptivism; and that of the title, interpretation being a co-creation between the viewer and creator. Please enjoy!

"The pain of your absence is sharp and haunting, and I would give anything not to know it; anything but never knowing you at all (which would be worse)."

The critical analysis of Outer Wilds continues this week as Rick and Josh (Still Loading Podcast) continue through the solar system! In this episode, Giant's Deep, Ember Twin, Brittle Hollow, and the Interloper are explored at length, and insight is gained into the Nomai - how they lived, what they valued, and their untimely fate. This ended up being a terrific discussion that spans not only the game, but how we can extract the lessons into our own lives. Please enjoy!

"Seems like only yesterday you joined the space program, and suddenly here you are, leaving on your first solo voyage."

This week, Rick is joined by Josh (Still Loading Podcast) to begin a three-part analysis on Outer Wilds, a 2019 adventure game that captivated audiences (and me) with creativity and heart. Taking the role of The Hatchling, players explore a vast - and occasionally hostile - galaxy to gather data on the Nomai, an ancient race that disappeared under unclear circumstances. Mysteries abound, and with themes encompassing existentialism, religion, science, and community, Outer Wilds goes places players may not expect. We're both thrilled to be talking about this game. "The world doesn't like those who are different, Markus. Don't let anyone tell you who you should be."

This week marks the start of the analysis series on Detroit: Become Human! Rick is joined by Nomad (The Retro Wildlands) to dissect Quantic Dream's 2018 narrative-based game. Citizenship, sentience, equity...are artificial intelligence machines - that is to say, androids - deserving of such things? What are the ethical implications of such a high level of integration in society? For better or for worse, David Cage's tale sidesteps pondering questions of ethics and philosophy for a story centered around a cast of likeable characters. Star studded, too. This episode covers through Chapter 5. We hope you enjoy!

And some said it could never be done.

This week, Dave Jackson (Tales from the Backlog) joins me to talk all things Souls games - particularly, what finally "clicked" that made me a believer. Join us as we discuss what makes a Souls game, how fighting game knowledge can improve your experience, and why success in these blisteringly difficult games lies, perplexingly, within Zen. As December winds down, Pixel Project Radio is putting out some more "relaxed" episodes, some content that's more approachable and digestible. To start, I thought I'd put out a fairly informal and personal essay: reflecting on ten games from my childhood that really stuck with me and influenced my tastes. Some formed lifelong preferences, others simply gave me many pleasant memories. Please enjoy these musings on sincerity, the idea of "play," and my favorite childhood games!

"The answer that came to me again and again was play. Every human society in recorded history has games. We don't just solve problems out of necessity. We do it for fun...Games are part of what makes us human. We see the world as a mystery, a puzzle, because we've always been a species of problem-solvers."

This week, Rick is joined by Alex (Low Five Gaming) to approach the brinks of phenomenal consciousness and transhumanism in The Talos Principle, a 2014 puzzle game by Devolver Digital. Though the storyboarding and "plot" are fairly light (and reminiscent to the Book of Genesis), the implications of the story are far reaching: what is the fundamental turning point into the notion of Qualia, or phenomenal consciousness? And what of free will - do we have it? Join us as we discuss this, the Garden of Eden, how games can foster community, and much more. Please enjoy!

"I never meant to hurt anyone." "No one ever does, Walker."

This week, Rick is joined once again by Chris Coplien (Retro Hangover Podcast) for a critical analysis of Spec Ops: The Line, Yager Development's masterclass in subversive narratives in gaming. Players take control of Walker as he, along with squadmates Adams and Lugo, embark on a rescue mission in Dubai. Heroes...right? Deontology versus consequentialism, morality through the lenses of Hobbes, Locke, and Zizek, and the importance of perspective - all of this and more, in this week's episode. Please enjoy!

We bring back roundtable discussions with this week's episode! Rick is joined by Charlie Young and Eric Gess (The Unlockables Podcast) to talk through the reasons we've gravitated toward video games throughout our childhoods as well as adult years. Power fantasies to escapism, rekindling old friendships to discovering new communities, honing a craft as one might an instrument to just relaxing with your spouse...the reasons are endless, but one thing is clear: there's almost no "wrong" way to enjoy this medium. Please enjoy the discussion, and look forward to more roundtable discussions in the future!

Our luck had to run out sooner or later.

This week, Rick is joined by Jon (Video Game Lounge Podcast) to dissect The Last of Us Part I, the critically acclaimed Naughty Dog title that became the posterchild for cinematic games. Part I of this series sees us introduced to Joel, his partner Tess, and a young girl named Ellie as the three navigate the harsh reality of a post-societal world ravaged by disease. Themes of human nature, the lack of social contract, and unconditional love frame what is ultimately a heartfelt tale - we hope you enjoy!

Don't get holy on me, James. This town called you, too. You and me are the same. We're not like other people. Don't you know that?

This week we conclude Silent Hill 2, the psychological horror titan from Team Silent. A deep descent - figuratively and literally - into James Sunderland's psyche shows horrors and suffering that nobody saw coming in the opening hour or two of the game. And what makes this so effective? In retrospect, the game has been intensely thematically focused from start to finish. Please enjoy!

Maybe...you hated her...!

Just in time for the Konami/Bloober Team remake, Rick is joined by returning guest Dustin to analyze the critically acclaimed psychological horror game Silent Hill 2. A separate entity from its progenitor, Silent Hill 2 sees players take the role of James Sunderland, a man searching for his late wife after receiving a mysterious letter from her three years after her passing. Nothing is as it seems in the town of Silent Hill. In part I, we cover cursory information, broad opinions on music, presentation, and mechanics, and analyze the first part of the story. If you are playing along, this episode covers up until our first visit to the hospital. Please enjoy!

This week, Rick is joined by Phil (Deleted Saves Podcast) for an analysis of the original Silent Hill, Konami's foray into psychological horror on the Playstation 1. "Art is illusion, storytelling, but in their most sublime form, these images illuminate a path to truth."

This week, Rick is joined by Nick (Friday Night Gamecast) to begin a critical analysis of Pentiment, a 2022 narrative adventure game from Obsidian Studios. Taking the role of journeyman artist Andreas Mahler, players will navigate the small Bavarian town of Tassing as havoc sweeps the town in the form of murders. We sinned. We sinned and we are still paying for it to this day.

This week, Rick is joined by Dave (Tales from the Backlog) and Matt ("Fun" and Games) for a critical analysis of 1000xRESIST, a work that blends the aesthetics of theatre, philosophy, and lived, human experiences into a striking package. This light once symbolized civilization – the very will of the human race. But what can be gleaned from the light we see today? The people of this world have cast away their will to create, drowning themselves instead in an endless cycle of consumption…

This week, Rick is joined by Chris (Retro Hangover) and Nick (Friday Night Gamecast) to dive into a cult classic from the minds of Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga, Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht. No one ever said the future would be easy. But I think we all saw the glimmer of a dream, somewhere in the sky that night. The tiniest spark of hope that we can change our fate. Who could say? That moment has come and gone.

Thanks for giving me time to think. To keep doing what you set your heart on...It's a very hard thing to do...What to do when I felt lonely...That was the only thing you couldn't teach me. This episode is about growth: Garnet learns that she must foster her own independance; Steiner and Beatrix begin to see the true colors of the crown; and Vivi learns of his origins in one of the game's most famous sequences. It gets heavy - we hope you enjoy!

We'll never forget you. We'll remember you every time we stand at your grave. And we won't let the fear of death, which each of us knows, stop us from living our lives. Because my friends will remember me when I'm here.

This is part 2 of 5 for our Final Fantasy IX analysis series. I am joined by Eric, from the Unlockables Podcast, who shares a deep love for this game. In this episode, we play from the beginning of the game up until the very end of disc 1. We meet the bulk of our cast, learn some disturbing truths about political powers, and much, much more.

You Taught Me That Life Doesn't Last Forever. That's Why We Have To Help Each Other And Live Life To The Fullest.

This is the beginning of a miniseries on Final Fantasy IX, one of the most important games in my life. This is the first time the show is revisiting a game that has been covered previously. In this personal essay, I explain why I made this choice, give some background history on the game, and speak about why this game means so much for me. This is part 1 of 5. We hope you enjoy this series - it has been deeply moving and rewarding to put together.

This is like writing a podcast description at Terry Gross's house.

Get ready for some 90s pop culture quips and a whole lotta Tail Time, because this week Rick is joined once again by friend of the show Charlie Young to talk all things Gex: Enter the Gecko! This is the essence of the 1990s distilled: pop culture references, a mascot character with attitude, and questionable camera controls. This was a heck of a fun episode that really felt more like shooting the breeze with a good friend - and we hope you enjoy that kind of vibe here!

Gex 2 Version Differences, as mentioned in the episode

"And when this too-long life of mine draws to a close," Kaim thinks, "I'd like to be sent off with the sound of bells like this if possible." Because he knows that day will never come, Kaim walks on, never stopping, never looking back. His long journey is far from over.

Our three-part series on Lost Odyssey comes to a close in this final installment. The threads of the plot come together in an exciting conclusion - but is it earned? What do Rick and guest host Thrak (The 3DO Experience) think about the ending as it relates to the thematic identity of the game itself? Tune in to find out - it's an exciting ride!

It is the voice of the little girl from eighty years ago, ringing ever clear, sweet and innocent, declaring farewell to the man who will travel life forever...

We return for Part 2 of our miniseries on the Xbox 360 exclusive JRPG, Lost Odyssey. This episode is entirely story, and sees us pick up where we left off last time; if you are playing along, this episode covers up to and through the large "freezing" event that occurs on disc 2. We meet the rest of our party, learn more about Gongora's intentions, and begin to see the implications of the ever-shifting political landscape. Enjoy!

Deep in the heart of someone seeking freedom is the fact of freedom denied...

This week, Rick is joined by friend of the show Thrak (The 3DO Experience Podcast) to dive into Lost Odyssey, somewhat of a hidden gem of a JRPG exclusive to the Xbox 360. What does it mean to live - to truly live - when one cannot die? This question lives at the core of the story being told - by none other than Hironobu Sakaguchi - as players take control of immortal Kaim Argonar, seeking for the stolen truth of his past. In part 1, we go over development history, the score, overall thematic concepts, and a portion of the story; if you're playing along, we conclude today's episode after getting captured by General Kakanas. This was such a blast to put together - do it up!

Little tank, big attitude.

This week on the show, Rick is joined once again by Charlie Young to talk about a forgotten PS1 mascot platformer: Tiny Tank! Starring a smart-mouthed sentient tank, Tiny Tank is a sort of hybrid third person shooter/platformer. Do the controls hold up? Does it deserve to be forgotten? Did we ever get tired of Tiny's constant, nonstop quips? Tune in to find out!

Now with double the evil residents!

This week, Rick is joined by friend of the show and friend in real life Dustin to tackle Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Rick's first Resident Evil game! RE7 pays homage to many of the horror greats that came before it, in both mediums of game and film. The result is a montage and cornucopia of tension and atmosphere (...and I didn't even THINK about playing it in VR!). We talk all things mechanics, lore, dev history, sound design, and more. "Okay, here's your motivation: You're lost. You're angry in the woods. And no one is here to help you."

In this episode, Rick is joined by Ryan (List Off Podcast) to venture into the woods of Burkittsville, Maryland in the 2019 horror game Blair Witch. Set only a couple of years after the events of the movie, players are tasked with finding a missing 9-year old boy armed with nothing but a flashlight, a walkie talkie, and your trusty companion, Bullet the dog. Immersion and exploration play a huge role in this game, as Bloober Team - the minds behind Layers of Fear - flex their psychological horror chops. How does this game stack up to the other horror giants? You'll have to tune in to see. Do it up!

This week, a tripe to Feudal-era Japan! Rick is joined by Bill Barber (The Gaming and Collecting Podcast; The 3DO Experience) to talk about the early 2000s JRPG Inuyasha: The Secret of the Cursed Mask! Licensed games can be a mixed bag, and this one is no exception; while the battle system is perfectly serviceable and the visuals are quite nice, the game itself feels like an elaborately done fanfiction. Earthbound Papas is such a good name.

It's difficult to discuss the music of video games without encountering a few titans of the industry, and among the tallest stands Nobuo Uematsu, a veteran composer perhaps most well-known for the Final Fantasy series. Don't fuck with a witch.

This week, Rick is joined by Nicholas - better known as TripleSMoon - in an effort to get stylish and sexy, because this episode is all about the character action classic, Bayonetta. This game is a study in all things excess, but don't let the over-the-top presentation fool you: there is a complex and deeply satisfying battle system under the hood. In this first episode, we go over all of the background to the game, examine the mechanics, smile at (and with) the visuals, and gush over the music. Ugh...family drama.

This week, Rick is ferried by the Stygian Boatman down the River Styx along with good friends Nick and Will, of the Friday Night Gamecast. The destination? None other than Hades! This smash hit from Supergiant Games was many's GOTY choice, and it's clear why: a satisfying gameplay loop, blistering music, endearing characters, and more. Hear about our thoughts on the narrative style, the gameplay choices...and Rick's bad David Bowie impression. All of this and more - we hope you enjoy!

This week, Rick is joined by Alex from Low 5 Gaming to talk all about Devolver Digital's indie hit, Death's Door! Part Zelda-like, part Souls-like, Death's Door takes the concept of mortality and tasks players with reaping souls as their job. No, really - it's like a 9 to 5! There's so much that is special about this game, and we really hope that you enjoy listening to this episode. We sure had fun talking about it!

My podcast is a chip in your pile. Ante up!

We're back once again with the next installment of Final Fantasy 6, being joined as ever by Chris Coplien of the Retro Hangover Podcast. This episode covers the aftermath of the opera all the way up to the World of Ruin. There is a LOT of meat in today's episode, and it features some of the greatest moments in this game - and in JRPG history. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed reliving these moments.

I'm a general, not some podcasting floozy!

We're back once again for our continuing mini-series on Final Fantasy 6. This episode goes through some incredibly memorable moments from the game, including suplexing a train and (up to and finishing with) the game's famous opera scene. We also meet a pesky octopus. Joined once again by Chris from Retro Hangover, so you know we're going to have a great time! We reach the exciting conclusion as Rick and special guest host Dave (Tales From the Backlog) finish the story of NieR Replicant. We go through endings A through D, touching on the differences between each route. We also tackle the newly added ending E, and parse out how it may or may not relate to NieR Automata. "I PREFER the term 'treasure hunter!'"

This week, Rick and Ben are joined by Chris Coplien of the Retro Hangover Podcast to talk all about one of the most important JRPGs of all time: Final Fantasy 6. The final mainline FF title for the SNES, FF6 pushed the boundaries of what a JRPG could be, and set a new tone for the series moving forward; whereas 1 through 5 were somewhat more lighthearted, 6 marks the beginnings of the FF series tackling heavier, more mature topics and themes. In this installment, we cover all of the development history, talk about thematic material, the phenomenal soundtrack, and much more. This episode covers the story up to meeting Banon for the first time. This was the winner of our Summer JRPG Poll, so we also must thank you, the listeners, for voting!

Taro has a penchant for telling bleak stories with humanity at their cores - is Nier the same? We go over these thematic ideas as well as the mechanics, dev history, and story. RIP, we hardly knew ye.

Kicking off our very spooky spectacular month of October is none other than the infamous scrapped teaser for "Silent Hills," P.T. While we didn't have the chance to experience this when it was current in 2014, believe us when we say it still packs a wallop; this is possibly one of the scariest gaming experiences either of us have ever had. There's a ton to talk about in this one, including a very messy situation between Konami and game creator Hideo Kojima. So bu2ckle 0up, bec4ause 8her6e we3 go....

Because that means it meant something. It means I am something, at least...pretty amazing to be something, at least..."

This episode, Rick and Ben board the bus to Possum Springs as they tackle the 2017 indie hit Night In The Woods. A semi-slice of life, semi-platformer, Night In The Woods tackles the doldrums of small town living, the anxieties and troubles that come with it, and how capitalism causes and influences the difficulties therein. Also, there's a cosmic horror space god. Pretty cool! This game was DIRECTLY inspired by the area that we at PPR grew up in too. Former High Summoner Yuna is joined by Rikku and newcomer Paine as the trio set out to get to the bottom of a mysterious sphere. Their journey leads them into politics, war, and...hot springs. Alternate title: Rick and Ben get existential.

Everything is the definition of an art game and it in no way lacks charm. Still, this game - and indeed this episode - might not be for everyone; some of you will appreciate the conversations around religion and thought, while others will think we're shallowly blowing hot air. Truthfully? It's a bit of both. But "Everything" is, nevertheless, a unique experience that we both recommend handily.

This week, your gentlemanly hosts Rick and Ben take a trip to St. Mystere to tackle Professor Layton and the Curious Village. This quaint puzzle game debuted on the Nintendo DS in 2007 and quickly captured the hearts of many via Layton's suave demeanor and the quirky brain teasers and puzzles. What's the secret that this town is hiding? You'll have to trust our detective intuition to find out.

"They say this next test was designed by one of Aperture's Nobel Prize winners. I don't remember what the prize was for, but I know it wasn't for being immune to neurotoxin."

It's our first birthday! As such, we decided we wanted to tackle on of the most well-beloved games in the canon: Valve's landmark sequel, Portal 2. Rick and Ben are joined once again by friend of the show Charlie Young, and the three of them discuss everything that makes this game so special. The humor, the timing, the writing, the impeccable level design - it's hard to overstate how great this game is. Thanks for sticking around with us for one year - here's to many more!

Join secret agents Ben and Rick in this week's episode covering the landmark FPS on the Nintendo 64, GoldenEye 007. This game was a major turning point for the genre, but how does it hold up today? And what about emulation - does that "count?" We discuss all of this and more - much, much, more - within.

Jump up, Superstar.

Happy March 10th, otherwise known as MAR10 day! In this episode, Ben and Rick are joined by Ben's better half Victoria as they discuss the hit platformer, Super Mario Odyssey. This episode is much more laid back and casual, but the discussions all lead to the same conclusion: this game is phenomenal, and you should really be playing it rather than listening to us.

"If we lived forever, maybe we'd have time to understand things. But as it is, I think the best we can do is try to open our eyes, and appreciate how strange and brief all of this is."

This week, Ben and Rick dive into the past in the almost stranger than fiction tale of What Remains of Edith Finch. This work deftly ties in themes of the past and death anxiety with nuanced writing, and the result is a walking simulator that you won't want to miss. What does it mean to live? Who is the true antagonist, if there even is one? How does this house maintain structural integrity? All of this and more - just through this door.

"I fucking hate my life, and everyone hates me. I've found peace in knowing this."

This week, Rick is joined by friend of the show and friend in real life Charlie Young as they tackle LISA: The Painful, an RPG described as "a life ruining experience." LISA is the story of a broken man seeking redemption in the face of an apocalyptic world - but that barely scratches the surface, as this game features irreverent, biting humor juxtaposed with at times upsetting thematic material. Nevertheless, it's all handled with poise - unlike the guy in-game who orders his drink BEFORE his combo meal. What the hell is that? Anyway, take a listen!

"I realized something - I wasn't sad that it was all gone. I had fun making all that stuff! I would've done it anyway. And then, somehow I knew that when I woke up, all my work would really be destroyed. And that's when you showed up. I don't know how you got here...but I am glad to see you."

We have all felt unfinished in one way or another - to feel so is to be human. The thesis of "The Unfinished Swan," the game that Ben and Rick discuss this week, deals with the idea of this being not only an important area of growth but one that must be embraced, for it is not a failing on who we are. Author note - this is the kind of game we made this podcast specifically to talk about, so we hope you enjoy the discussions within.

For many of us, it's ingrained in our memories: opening up our very first game, booting it up, and hearing the iconic music greet and embrace us for a very special journey to come. Whether it's Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, or more, music has become not only ubiquitous but integral to the creation and enjoyment of video games. In this episode, Ben, Rick, and Vince read off some of YOUR responses to your favorite music, talk about our very favorites, discuss the merit of engaging with culture, and more. And as you might expect, we edited a LOT of good music into this one.

"I came out here for a breath of fresh air and adventure."

A lot of folks hear the phrase "walking sim" and roll their eyes, imagining boredom. Firewatch is a game that proves this notion to be false, as inside is a short little game filled with a atmosphere, ambiance, and character development. From the writers of "The Walking Dead" comes a game that explores themes of isolation, relationships, and honesty. Lots of good discussion in this one!

The saga continues as Ben, Rick, and Vince wrap up Final Fantasy IX...for now. FF IX is a game that excels at many things, but as is the case with so many games in the series suffers from a weak underbelly in the middle to late middle of the journey. "I have to find out who I am... I'm scared... What if I'm not even human...?"

It was the swansong of the Playstation 1 and a love letter to the series. It aimed to be an amalgamation of everything that made the series what it had become. And yet despite this, it has never lived up to the hype of it's brethren installments of VI, VII, and X.

We think that's ridiculous.

Join us on this three-episode special of the infinitely charming Final Fantasy IX. This first episode will primarily be generalities, background, and mechanics, along with just a little bit of the story.
