At some point in their lives everyone faces some kind of adversity. The trick then is how you handle and deal with it.... because in most cases its unexpected
adversity
a difficult or unpleasant situation. "resilience in the face of adversity"
The Donnybrook Diaries is a podcast of my journey post ischemic stroke following my time in The Royal Hospital in Donnybrook.
Approaching the one year anniversary of an event that completely changed my life…. From running and cycling everyday to relearning how to walk from a wheelchair. Learning to talk again after often broadcasting on radio with focus now on recovering right arm skills.
The journey after a stroke is not easy. It is long, and often turns out to be longer than you think. With many darker mornings in the early days of recovery than perhaps brighter ones. Days when only you can lift yourself. Mornings when only you can motivate yourself. Times when it’s only your own willpower that can shift you along. Those are the days you learn about determination.💪
As we progress over time this year is starting to fly past.
As we expand our walking trails and locations these past weeks these talks have become less frequent unfortunately.
The road well travelled ….. it’s been a long journey following a stroke and rarely have I stopped to reflect on the distance travelled, progress made or even celebrate the results. Perhaps too focussed all the time on Onwards and upwards
The journey post stroke continues and now into my eight month of recovery., As I get stronger learning to keep wits about me with other road users… many of whom so busy reading their phones my impairments are a hazard. Onwards and Upwards.
Recharging my mojo thanks to Mick Bolger! A timely reboot on a dark and dreary January Sunday morning! Can’t thank Mick enough …. @rgmcdermott #recoveringfromstroke
