If you're losing hair by the handful...you're not alone. It's another alarming gem of peri and menopause waiting to surprise us and a hot issue discussed regularly over in our Community. Welcome to The Hormone Hub Podcast where today we're looking at why it can feel that we're about to go bald at the same time hair is reappearing randomly on our face. There's usually an underlying reason (or two), so in this episode we look at the causes - from hormonal imbalances and stress, thyroid and auto immune conditions, nutrient deficiencies and even long term medications which can be the culprit. What's a girl to do? I'm here to share some practical advice on how to manage these changes. We’ll discuss the importance of diet, specific nutrients like zinc and iron, and the role they play in hair health. It's about more than quick fixes; it's about understanding and adapting to your body's needs during perimenopause. I'll share strategies for supporting your thyroid, managing stress, and optimising your nutrient levels for overall health. Remember, you're not alone on this journey. Knowledge is power, and I'm here to help you regain the confidence that comes with taking back control of your health. I hope you enjoy this episode!
I am constantly asked about "the thing" that will fix whatever our big health bugbear is ... crazy hormones, digestive issues, anxiety, weight gain, hair loss, not sleeping, and so on. Generally, the answer women are looking for is the magic supplement or type of diet, or which dose of HRT, but the glaring reality is, if we want things to be different, we need to do things differently. Fresh from our latest Bali retreat I'm feeling very inspired by the pivotal role that lifestyle plays for us - and how we need to take personal responsibility for ourselves and stop looking for a quick fix or a band aid. You are not defined by a diagnosis, a health condition or your weight, nor are you a victim. You are NOT broken - our supermarket foods and medical/pharma system (think chemist chains) is what's broken. This episode is a call to action for anyone ready to break free from this cycle that often overlooks the underlying drivers that are keeping us unwell and overweight. You can't heal a body that's in a stressed state. My challenge for you... is to have a vision for your health, what does your future look like, in 1 year, 5 years, 20 years. How energetic are you? How mobile and active are you? Are you physically able to do everything you want to? Are you calm and relaxed? Are you happy? It's what you do today that your future self will thank you for. I hope you enjoy this episode! are

When you feel confident, you emit a positive energy that people are naturally drawn to. Feeling confident in yourself is NOT about having the perfect body or putting your life on hold until after you get around to losing that 10kg. Our guest today firmly believes you don’t have to have the perfect body to have STYLE. Ohh YESSS! This episode is for every one of us who has had a “moment” standing in front of our wardrobes wondering what on earth we are going to wear. Our guest is the fabulous Jane Mow, a Personal Brand Stylist and Style Coach for women. Jane's ethos is what you wear is your business card. When you dress in a way that aligns with your personal style, you feel confident and self assured, which shines through in the way you show up in the world. Our bodies change across the different seasons of our life but this doesn't mean our personal style has to change. Short. Curvy. Tall. Wide. Narrow. Broad Shoulders. Stubborn tummy. Mummy-weight. Menopause. Jane's belief is that everyone has the potential to be stylish. So if you’re done hiding under the baggy clothes, you can’t miss this episode! Jane's years of experience helps women take the stress out of getting dressed each day by helping you create a wardrobe filled only with pieces aligned with your unique Personal Style and Lifestyle. The result? There’s none of this, “ugh, what should I wear?” every time you get dressed. Instead, it sounds like “OOOoh, which items should I wear today?” Who's ready to feel fabulous??!!
I’m constantly being asked a LOT of questions about perimenopause... so if you’re experiencing changes in your body that leave you feeling confused and overwhelmed, you aren’t alone. Perimenopause isn't a sudden occurrence; it's more like a reverse puberty, spanning anywhere from two to ten years. During this time, hormonal fluctuations can lead to various symptoms, including anxiety, disrupted sleep, heavier periods, allergies, hot flashes, and brain fog. In today's episode of The Hormone Hub we look at why blood tests are not the best indicator of where your hormones are at, and why you need to pay attention to the signs and symptoms - even if you don’t have a regular period! We look at… The 4 stages of perimenopause. 50+ common symptoms It’s more than just about understanding perimenopause; it's about reclaiming control of your health and well-being. This season of life can be challenging but by prioritising your own self care… including diet, lifestyle choices, and stress management techniques can help alleviate symptoms and support you through this transition. I also have a free guide which includes: A symptom tracker List of blood work that IS helpful you can ask your doctor for. Don't forget that while it can be challenging... you don't have to do it alone and it doesn't last forever! Big love, Kylie x

Gynaecological cancers include cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, vulvar, fallopian tube and placental cancers. As with any cancer, early detection and awareness is the key to a better health outcome. Today on The Hormone Hub, we speak with Kath Mazzella OAM, who is a 30year vulvar cancer survivor. Kath shares her experience and the work she has tirelessly been doing to bring awareness and break down the stigmas of gynaecological health. Starting with... using the anatomically correct terminology. There's more to it than a vagina. The vulva is the global term that describes all the structures that make external female genitalia. Which includes the mons pubis, labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, vestibular bulbs, vulva vestibule, Bartholin's glands, Skene's glands, urethra, and vaginal opening. You know your body better than anyone, so if you're experiencing symptoms that are unusual, please get it medically checked... What's NOT normal... Abnormal or persistent vaginal bleeding – such as bleeding after menopause, bleeding that is not part of menstrual periods, or bleeding after sex Unusual vaginal discharge (if it's ongoing ask for a swab!) Pain, pressure or discomfort in the abdomen Swelling of the abdomen Change in bowel or bladder habits Pain during sex Weight loss Itching, burning or soreness in the vulva Lumps, sores or wart-like growths There are a number of conditions that may cause these symptoms, but please see your doctor as early detection is always best. Viva La Vulva!

When the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause begin to affect our quality of life… we do NOT have to suffer through and just put up with it. Nor do we need to take strong pharmaceuticals that come with their own side effects. The good news is, there is a middle ground in the form of bioidentical HRT which is now also known as MHT - Menopause Hormone Therapy. In this “Best of Series” I’ll explain the HRT options that are now available to us, AND why we still need to pay attention to diet, lifestyle, stress management, sleep and exercise. Who doesn’t want to live a life that’s fulfilling, unapologetic, and free? Today’s conversation on The Hormone Hub is with one woman who has created just that. When it comes to health, the term “inflammation” gets thrown around a lot… but what does that mean exactly and why is it exacerbated during perimenopause and menopause? In this episode of The Hormone Hub, I break down what it means to have chronic inflammation and the different ways it can show up in our body. Signs of chronic inflammation: Can last months or years Ongoing fatigue and lethargy Digestive disorders – bloating, IBS and reflux Rashes, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or other skin afflictions Being overweight and having trouble losing weight Fatty liver, insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes Aches and pains Ongoing headaches or migraines Heart disease Heavy periods and problematic cycles Autoimmune conditions It is entirely possible to reduce inflammation in your body and the reality is that your diet and lifestyle is either helping to keep inflammation at bay or it’s driving it. And of course… I’ll share the details of the choices you can make!

In this episode, we chat about:

Women with pelvic pain often suffer in silence with little support, often giving up after multiple attempts for answers and appropriate medical relief. Many women go under the knife - often multiple times - to treat their endometriosis or being prescribed heavy-duty drugs for period pain without noticeable improvement. Today on The Hormone Hub we have prominent gynecologist and fertility specialist Dr. Peta Wright who is able to give us an insight into how the current medical model is failing women and she makes the case for a range of other treatments not usually prescribed, including an anti-inflammatory diet, exercise, stress management, and therapeutic work focused on addressing the effects of trauma in the body. She is a big advocate of empowering women to ask the right questions, get the right treatment, and make lifestyle changes that bring about release from pain. If you have a history of pelvic pain, endometriosis or adenomyosis then you can’t miss this episode. Dr Wright practices at the stunning Vera Women’s Wellness clinic, outside Brisbane or learn more with her book Healing Pelvic Pain, available online or at all good bookstores.
As a natural health practitioner, there are certain things we know to be true. Just because something doesn’t tick a medical box (and has an equivalent pharmaceutical waiting to be prescribed) doesn’t mean it’s not real. If you’ve ever been told that everything is “normal” and yet you have ongoing unexplained symptoms, it could well be something that is commonly seen and successfully managed by a nutritionist or naturopath. Leaky gut is just one of these conditions and today we are joined on The Hormone Hub by Prajakta Apte, a Registered Dietitian, Yoga teacher and a gut health expert. She practises functional medicine and Ayurvedic practices, an ancient medical system originating over 5000 years ago in India. Prajakta is a firm believer that Good Health starts in your gut and a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle practices can help a person connect their mind and body. This was a great conversation and we dived right into: 🥑 What exactly is a leaky gut? 🫑 Potential causes of leaky gut 🥝 Common signs and symptoms 🥑 How we treat a leaky gut If you have digestive issues, I hope this episode gives you some answers and inspires you to get curious about putting an end to the guessing game to fix your gut. It is totally possible to heal your digestive issues and begin NORMAL in your body again. and find long-term results by treating the root causes to your gut issues. So what’s the deal with everyone suddenly having ADHD?? Today we are joined on The Hormone Hub by Jules Galloway - a naturopath, mentor, and all-around good human. Jules and her husband James were both diagnosed with ADHD last year and Jules has recently wrapped up an Australia-wide tour presenting on Adult ADHD to natural health practitioners, and I can say one of the most interesting educational seminars I’ve been to in a long time! Fun fact… ADHD is not a deficit, nor is it a disorder. Some brains are just wired differently. In this episode Jules and I talk about how ADHD presents in adults, and how it can vary particularly in women. We look at why ADHD often goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for decades and how the current increase in diagnosis is actually a catch-up of missed cases due more to an increase in awareness and a better understanding of the different ways it can present. Many women are actually able to self-diagnose (unofficially) after sitting in on their kid's assessment and mentally tick the boxes for themselves! So if you suspect you may have a “spicy brain” this episode is for you! You can tune into Jules and James Late Diagnosis ADHD podcast HERE: https://latediagnosisadhd.com/
If you’ve been in my world for a while… you’ll know that I’m not a fan of diets, because they just don’t work. And if you’re in my world you’re also here because your hormones are on a roller coaster and creeping weight gain just might be one of your biggest frustrations…. So this might sound a little odd, but take a second to hear me out... Today’s episode is all about Weight Loss Wisdom. Because I’ve been in your shoes before and I know exactly how frustrating it is. You want to put an end to this creeping weight gain that seems to keep going, no matter what you try. Then you give up after a week or two because you’re just not seeing the results. I get it, I’ve been there. But I want to promise you that you WON’T do what I did… Jump on something you found because it seems popular online, or there’s a celeb spruiking it, or it’s some meal replacement or network marketing crap (seriously most of it is hype - save your $400 a month and starve yourself on Milo instead, same nutritional content...I kid you not!) Because doing that my friend, is going to keep you on struggle street. Don’t get me wrong, I know that weight loss can be hard, especially once you’re over 40, and who doesn’t want an easier way? But it’s only part of the solution. Focusing on losing the weight, without a solid plan of how to keep it off, just means it will pile back on (and then some) quicker than you can pour a glass of wine and put a cheese plate together. You’re a smart cookie and you want to put an end to this constant wanting to lose weight nightmare without starving yourself to death. That’s why I created Weight Loss Wisdom. It’s the safest and easiest way for you to drop weight fast - without worrying about it piling back on again. You don’t need to keep fighting the cycle of getting excited, hoping this is the solution, and giving up because you just don’t see the results. Getting your frustrations off your chest feels good right? But you know what’s even better? Taking action and feeling confident in your own skin again. It’s easier than you think and I’m right by your side every step of the way. So hit play on today’s episode and find out what it’s all about… Learn more HERE https://kyliepinwill.com/weight-loss-wisdom/
Pay attention to what your body is telling you… This is the message today's guest, Alvina Nadeem wishes to shout to the world.
At just 36 years of age, Alvina is currently undergoing chemotherapy after a 16cm cancerous mass on her left ovary was removed, along with a full hysterectomy.
After the surgery and a full biopsy Alvina was diagnosed with a High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer, the most aggressive form of ovarian cancer.
Ovarian Cancer is rare but is nicknamed the silent killer in the cancer world.
This is because it has very elusive, non-specific symptoms, which means most women aren’t detected until stage III or stage IV.
It also usually presents in post-menopausal women, which unfortunately speaks volumes on how often women’s health concerns are dismissed and not taken seriously.
The stats aren’t good…
😔 Most cases of Ovarian Cancer have a 5-year survival rate of only 40-50%.
👍 BUT this number improves drastically IF detected early - now we’re talking about a 90% survival rate!
😔 Sadly, currently only 15% of cases are detected early, meaning a whopping 85% of women with ovarian cancer are in the 40-50% bucket.
These are not just statistics.
These are people.
Mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, and in some cases women that will never get to experience motherhood because of this disease.
This is unacceptable.
Fortunately, Alvina’s case was miraculously detected early, at stage one, which gives her a great prognosis we talk about her journey including:
🍁 Her signs and symptoms
🍁 Tests leading to her diagnosis
🍁 Importance of communication with her medical team
🍁 Dealing with instant surgical menopause
This cancer may be silent, but Alvina refuses to be. She is committed to being super loud and vocal to raise awareness and shine a light on Ovarian Cancer.
👉 More awareness
👉 More funds
👉 More cases of early detection
👉 More research
Alvina’s message for everyone…
You know your body better than anyone else, so always listen to what your body is saying and trust your instincts.
You’re also the best advocate for your own health. If you are not comfortable with your doctor’s diagnosis or you are still concerned about unexplained persistent symptoms, you should always seek a second opinion.

If you've ever wondered why your allergies seem to be getting worse as you get older… It’s definitely not in your head. Perimenopause can trigger a host of mysterious symptoms and in this episode of The Hormone Hub, we look at the curious link between estrogen, mast cells, and histamine. I’ll explain why you can feel you’re caught in a vicious cycle and how to find relief and regain control of your health.
Here's a sneak peek of what we cover in today’s episode: 🤧 Headaches, anxiety, insomnia, hives, oh my! The more common symptoms of mast cell activation and high histamine 😬 How histamine symptoms fluctuate with estrogen levels throughout the menstrual cycle 🙃 The vicious cycle of how estrogen influences mast cells to release histamine while simultaneously being stimulated by histamine. 🥰 How progesterone stabilises mast cells and enhances histamine clearance, potentially breaking the estrogen-histamine allergy cycle. 👍 The surprising upside of histamine including stomach acid regulation, brain stimulation, and female reproduction. 🍷 Common triggers for histamine excess including alcohol, dairy, and other histamine-stimulating foods, to gut health issues like SIBO and vitamin B6 deficiency. So grab your tissues as I break it all down for you! Don't forget to hit that subscribe button and share this episode with anyone who needs to hear it!

👋👋 With so many new listeners and subscribers to the podcast and in our Hormone Hub Facebook Community I thought it was about time that I reintroduced myself.
So in this episode of The Hormone Hub I share a bit about who I am, my own hormonal roller coaster ride, and how I ended up specialising in the perimenopause and menopause space. 🥰
In a nutshell, I’m a 52 yr old Mum of 3 teenagers and a wife of 22 years. I had half my thyroid removed 17 years ago, have experienced adrenal fatigue and burnout (more than once 🤦♀️), and am still in perimenopause with regular periods and pleased to report that I’ve never had a hot flush! Touching all the wood right now…
Listen in to this week’s episode on how I manage my own hormonal dance, my non-negotiables when it comes to my health, hormones, and happiness, and my biggest perimenopause symptom I constantly struggle with… which if you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, you might already know!
I hope you enjoy this episode and thanks for listening!
Somewhere along the way, we lost connection to what matters most, and the consequences have been devastating to the physical and mental health of millions around the world.
But we can change that, and we will… for you, for me, for all of us.
Women are never stronger than when we lock arms and move together to create change.
Today on The Hormone Hub podcast I have my good friend Edwina Murphy-Droomer back on the show with an exclusive invitation to lock arms… with a grin and excitement in our hearts.
Edwina encourages us to get back to basics and draw upon the wisdom of a time when we weren’t so fragmented and disconnected from the things that supported us to live a happy, healthy life.
So how do we do this??
By reconnecting to what matters so we can build that strong foundation under all of us again for the happy, healthy life we want.
It is the foundation for a life so beautifully rich in meaning and fulfilment that we can’t help but flourish.
All we need to start is a single seed: when you wrap your heart and mind around it, nurture it, feed it, love it, and help it grow into the foundation that supports your life, you will flourish.
It is a seed that holds great wisdom and the DNA for a life filled with meaning and joy.
The seed from which a beautifully rich and meaningful life grows is called Connection.
We know humans need connection; without it, we fail to flourish.
Without it, we simply can not thrive.
But it isn’t just the connection to another person that we need.
Oh no, my friend, it is so much more than that.
It is your connection to the most authentic and highest expression of yourself, with what is needed to flourish from the inside out so that your inner world reflects the happy, healthy world we want for all.
It is our connection with the natural world, cherishing and honouring the symbiotic relationship with every living thing on Mother Earth.
It is our connection to a higher source, to the divine creative that holds all life in its hands… be that Mother Nature, The Universe, God, or another deity.
It is the connection you feel to others in platonic and romantic relationships and to a community that offers a sense of belonging and purpose.
With connection missing, be it connection to
(1) the most authentic, highest expression of yourself,
(2) your fellow humans,
(3) the natural world, and
(4) a higher source, it explains why many are feeling chronically uneasy.
But step by step, reconnecting to what matters most, we can build the foundation for a deeply fulfilling and profoundly meaningful life.
For you, for me, for all of us.
Phew... Strap in and enjoy this one!

From weight gain to mood swings, we covered it all. So, grab your favourite cup of tea, settle in, and let's explore the world of hormonal changes together.
You asked for it - Your Hormone Questions Answered
🔘 Weight Gain in Perimenopause and Menopause: what worked for us in our 20’s and 30s is definitely NOT working now! I talk about how we need to work WITH our changing hormones and… spoiler, it’s not even progesterone and estrogen!!!
🔘 Vaginal Dryness: Addressing a topic that is often kept hushed, I shed light on the causes of vaginal dryness, its impact, and effective ways to restore comfort and intimacy.
🔘 Why is my Dr prescribing Antidepressants for Menopause Symptoms? OK… this is an outdated treatment and your GP needs to get up to speed! There are often side effects to these and they are not easy to come off (so don’t just stop if you’re taking them!) They often end up causing more issues than your hot flushes! If you’re suffering from depression, antidepressants are helpful. If you’re going through menopause there are much better options!
🔘 Bloating and Gas: Super common, but embarrassing… our hormones can change the way we digest food. We have lower stomach acid and digestive enzymes… also the potential for an increase in food sensitivities. What you can do to feel more comfortable.
🔘 Navigating Anger and Rage: Feeling a surge of emotions that are out of character? Learn about the emotional changes that can occur and find empowerment in knowing you're not alone.
🔘 Unravelling Skin Issues: From dryness to acne, I provide guidance on caring for your changing skin and offer tips for maintaining that healthy glow.
🔘 Perimenopausal Migraines: Migraines can be debilitating, but fear not! I discuss the connection between hormonal shifts and migraines, along with strategies to find relief.

Good news for migraine sufferers… our latest episode of The Hormone Hub has just dropped and we are looking at why migraines can worsen during perimenopause and what you can do about it.
You know the deal – during perimenopause, our hormones go on a rollercoaster ride. Estrogen and progesterone are the stars of the show, and far out, don’t they know how to create havoc!
So why can migraines become so problematic during perimenopause?
Menstrual migraines can be debilitating and hit us harder than other migraines.
Estrogen plays a role in regulating our brain chemicals so when estrogen levels drop in the lead up to our period, it's like a domino effect – blood vessels dilate, progesterone and serotonin levels drop (they are our happy calming hormones), often leading to those dreaded migraines. 🌪️
Today I’m going to help you with some practical ideas to help reduce the severity and frequency of migraines.
It's essential to remember that while these may provide relief for some… we are all different and our hormones are constantly changing, which can be frustrating as what has been working may also change.
The good news is, once youre on the other side of menopause, for many women this also means the end of their migraines for good.
There’s also a lot of evidence to suggest that bio identical progesterone can help reduce migraines by balancing the ratio of estrogen to progesterone.
The same does NOT apply to synthetic progestins which are found in hormonal birth control pills, the Mirena, Deepo, Implanon etc so it's good to be aware of the difference.
Migraine busting nutrients:
Magnesium
Taurine
Riboflavin or B2 (the one that makes your pee fluro yellow!)
Foods to avoid…
Gluten and glutamate containing foods
Natural and alternative therapies…
Acupuncture
Osteopathic or Chiropractic treatments
Yoga and meditation
CBT therapies
Essential oils
Botox injections (ok…so not so natural!)
As always, you know your body best. I’d love to hear your thoughts and stories on this topic, so don't be shy – reach out and share your experiences.

In today’s episode of the Hormone Hub we are looking at the unspoken side of Menopause. There’s certainly a stigma around menopause and until recently has been one of many aspects of female health that’s a taboo topic.
Fortunately times are changing, and the more we talk about what’s really going on, beyond hot flushes and the middle aged spread, the more we can normalise the fact that our hormones can affect us physically, mentally and emotionally.
There are many varying factors that can impact your experience of menopause including your general level of health and wellbeing, previous history of anxiety and depression, lifestyle choices and whether you have had a natural, surgical or chemotherapy-induced menopause.
No two women are the same and we will all experience the transition through perimenopause and menopause differently.
30% of women have little to no symptoms
40% will experience mild to moderate symptoms
30% will have debilitating symptoms that impact their everyday life
Hot flushes are pretty synonymous with menopause but even the causes of hot flushes are complex and not completely understood. So it’s easy to see why so many women are given band aid solutions like synthetic birth control, HRT and antidepressants.
Some of the lesser known symptoms are what we need to be talking more about.
Crawling or itchy skin
Headaches and migraines
Sore breasts
Urinary, Vaginal, and Vulval Changes
Emotional changes such as low mood, feeling overwhelmed, brain fog, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, irritability, forgetfulness, lack of interest in sex and mood swings
If you're recognising the impact that any of these symptoms are having, I urge you to not suffer in silence. There is always support available and you don’t have to do this alone.

Unless you have blissfully been hiding under a rock lately, if you have any interest in diets and weight loss, chances are you have heard there’s a new weight loss drug on the market.
They are all over social media being touted as the next big weight loss solution...but you know the old saying… if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
Today we’re looking at the “weight loss wonder drugs” Ozempic and Wegovy… the good, the bad and the downright ugly.
We’re talking about the semaglutide range of pharmaceuticals, which include Ozempic and the recently-released Wegovy. Injected once per week into the stomach, thigh or arm, These drugs were developed for those with Type 2 diabetes, to help stimulate insulin action in the pancreas and aid blood glucose control.
Significant weight loss was an unexpected benefit, as users experienced a reduction in appetite thanks to the effect of the semaglutide, which mimics the role of a hormone in the body that tells it when it has had enough to eat.
Queue the blow up with celebrities, social media and chronic dieters for this new wonder drug!
There’s no question that in the right circumstances, the results speak for themselves. But with success for only 1 of every 3 users, what is the real cost?
Reduced appetite and improvement in insulin response are certainly positives. Bearing in mind, that this is only while you are taking the drug.
As with any diet, without actually making changes to your nutrition and lifestyle, the weight will return, usually with a bit extra, as soon as you stop taking it.
Common reasons why people stop taking the drug are:
Cost, malnutrition, decrease in skin tone aka Ozempic (or granny) face.
Unpleasant side effects include uncontrolled diarrhoea (in a whopping 30% of users!), nausea, bloating and stinky egg gas burps.
Meanwhile the alarm is sounding about additional side effects, including blurred vision, kidney failure and gallstones, pancreatitis and tumours, notably on the pancreas and thyroid.
The truth is… There are no magic pills for weight loss, plain and simple.
Change can be hard, but thinking that a weekly injection will shed weight without addressing what goes in your mouth and changing your lifestyle, plus addressing other drivers such as stress, thyroid, your hormones and inflammation, is crazy.
There is a better way. You don’t have to do “more”, just more of the right things!

Age is just a number, my friend, and I’m here to prove it. A friend who has come out the other side of breast cancer treatment and I were talking about how being thrust into sudden menopause for her sucked… but her attitude was, at least she was here to experience it… so true.
As a society we tend to look at menopause (and let’s face it, women’s hormones in general!) as a doom and gloom terrible thing to go through, that it shouldn’t be talked about.
Well, today I’m flipping that around and exploring the beauty and wisdom that come with our lived experience.
We'll delve into the mindset shifts needed to unlock the true potential of ageing awesomely. From shifting our perspectives on societal expectations to embracing our unique journeys, we'll discover that age is an opportunity for self-expression, personal fulfillment, and the exploration of new passions.
But that's not all! We'll uncover practical tips and strategies to enhance our well-being and maintain vibrant health as we age. From self-care rituals that nourish our bodies and souls to cultivating meaningful connections that enrich our lives, we'll empower you to live your best life, no matter your age.
Don’t forget that laughter is the elixir of youth, and it keeps us young at heart. 🤣 It’s Ok to be silly and find the fun in life….because isn’t that the whole point??
I hope you enjoy todays episode.
Lots of giggles, fun and laughter for you,

As an Accredited Health Practitioner, part of my continuing professional development is keeping up with the latest literature and research and last weekend I attended the Well Woman conference, hosted by one of our industry suppliers.
There were a lot of clinical gems on the latest support and treatment of:
Iron deficiency
Perimenopause + Menopause
Adenomyosis + endometriosis
Women's mental health including PMS, PMDD, anxiety and depression
The effect of the Pill on mental health
ADHD in women
Burnout AND MORE!
I’ll be sharing some of these with you over the next few weeks.
This week I’m jumping into something that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, and its deficiency can lead to a range of symptoms and health issues.
It’s one of the most common nutrient deficiencies worldwide, affecting women more often due to pregnancy and menstrual blood loss and that is - iron deficiency.
As with all things in health, there are many crossovers with various symptoms and conditions, but many hormonal symptoms we experience during peri and menopause can also be attributed to iron deficiency.
By addressing any iron deficiencies as a first port of call, it’s entirely likely we will also improve our hormonal symptoms too!
Signs of an iron deficiency can include:
Fatigue and exhaustion, shortness of breath, heart palpitations + chest pain, dizziness, hair loss, brain fog, mental health issues including anxiety and depression, head ache , muscle cramps and restless legs AND heavy periods!
Causes of low iron can be:
Poor dietary intake of iron - including vegetarian and vegan diets, restricted diet due to weight loss surgery.
Poor nutrient absorption from coeliac disease, weight loss surgery, IBD and Crohn's Disease, various medications including The Pill.
Excessive sweating from exercise
Pregnancy - never recovering those base levels or iron stores, even after 5, 10, 20 years!
Heavy periods every month (affects 20% of ALL women!)
The problem is…like many women’s health conditions our “normal” iron stores, or Ferritin levels are far from optimal - so if you aren't feeling that great, son't take "normal" as an answer!
** Ferritin is the best indicator of our iron status
Optimal blood levels
Ferritin 50-150
Ferritin >50 maintain this with adequate iron intake through diet
Ferritin 30-50 the stores are running low - ensure adequate dietary intake and supplement with low dose iron to restore levels until over 50+
Ferritin <30 iron depletion - you cannot eat your way out of an iron deficiency, you need a therapeutic dose of iron supplementation. Can take 6 months > 2 years to restore Ferritin b/w 50-150
Ferritin <15 iron deficient - you’re empty and at this point an iron infusion should be recommended.
Repeat bloods at 3 months if Ferritin > 30 continue for another 3 months with full supplementation until ferritin > 50.
(PS you should always have your bloods tested before supplementing to check for Thalassemia)
As always I encourage you to be proactive and take care of your own health. Get tested and take action, whether that is improving your diet or looking into supps if you need them.
Need help… this is what I do best!

A healthy body begins with a healthy immune system…. Having lived through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, most of us are familiar with the basics of self care to avoid getting sick. Despite this gastro, Covid, the flu and all the other unwanted and pesky germs are always coming up with new ways to win.
This means that supporting our immune system should be an ongoing priority if we want to experience life doing what we love.
While most viral infections come and go after a week or so, some of us can experience ongoing symptoms for months after initial infection (Listen to episode #51 On Long Covid) leaving you feeling tired, foggy and run down – no thanks!
To combat this, in todays episode we’re looking at three ways to support your immune health.
Here are my Top Tips for Immune Support and if you’re looking for immune supportive foods, check out this blog here: https://kyliepinwill.com/2021/08/01/immune-supportive-foods/

I put it out to our Hormone Hub Facebook Community last week to “Ask me anything” for the podcast… AND you didn’t hold back!
In this episode I answer all of YOUR questions about what we can do when it comes to:
With all the questions, two things really stood out for me…
The need for more awareness and conversations around WHAT happens to our bodies in the lead up to menopause
The need for personalised support. There were NO two questions that were the same. We all have different health and hormonal challenges and frustrations and they need to be addressed as such.
I hope you enjoy this episode, I certainly enjoyed putting it together and I’m happy to give you the answers of what you want to know!
Of course in a podcast, I can’t provide specific health advice, so they are “general” answers, but I’ve done my best.
Enjoy, Kylie x
Welcome to today’s episode of The Hormone Hub where we explore what’s going on with our digestive symptoms and why it’s important that we are absorbing the nutrients from our food properly, eliminating effectively (yep…we’re talking poo on the podcast!), and why it’s important to have a healthy gut microbiome to support our mental health.
Many women experience changes in their digestive health during peri and menopause, which can have a significant impact on their overall well-being.
Let’s face it… it’s never fun and no one feels their best when they are bloated and constipated… or when you have to pre-empt and plan for emergency toilet stops when you’re out!
We talk about some of the common symptoms and also what you can do about it.
The natural decline in estrogen levels can lead to a decrease in the production of our digestive enzymes. These enzymes are necessary for breaking down and absorbing nutrients in the food we eat.
As a result, you may not be getting the necessary vitamins and minerals you need from your diet…. Assuming of course that you’re eating a perfect diet!
This can lead to deficiencies in important nutrients such as iron, zinc and calcium, which has a huge knock on effect that can impact our energy levels, our thyroid hormone production, mood and can also contribute to osteoporosis.
Many women experience changes in their bowel movements, including constipation or diarrhoea. This can be caused by hormonal imbalances and also certain foods that just aren’t agreeing with us.
Constipation can lead to bloating, discomfort, and a buildup of toxins in the body, while diarrhoea can result in dehydration and nutrient loss.
Check out the Bristol stool chart… what number are you? Let me know! I love this shit…(pardon the pun!)
Our gut microbiome plays a crucial role in overall health, including digestive and mental wellbeing. The gut contains trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi, that work together to digest food, absorb nutrients, and regulate the immune system.
During peri and menopause menopause, changes in hormone levels can lead to changes in the gut microbiome, which can contribute to digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and abdominal pain.
Additionally, research has linked an imbalance in the gut microbiome to a decline in the production of neurotransmitters which directly impact mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
So as you can see, our digestive health plays a vital role in overall health and well-being, especially during the transition through menopause. By eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly, women can help promote optimal digestive health and enjoy a healthier, happier life.

Nothing drives me crazy more than hearing about women who are throwing their hard earned moula away on a supplement that they bought that promised to fix their hormones, digestion, give them a detox, make them sleep like babies and unpack the dishwasher… that just isn’t delivering what was promised! In this episode of The Hormone Hub, I spill the beans on what you’re really buying, so you can make an informed choice about what’s going to give you the best results.
While it’s easy to be tempted by clever marketing and the idea of a “magic pill” when you’re juggling fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, and joint pain, among others…. There are a few things to consider before you whip out the Visa. 1. Clean up your diet and lifestyle first You cannot out-supplement a shabby diet and lifestyle! Just like you can’t out-exercise a bad diet, nor will any supplement take the place of good nutrition and lifestyle habits. I talk about the non-negotiables when it comes to nutrition, lifestyle and stress management that you need to action BEFORE you look at supplements. While fancy marketing and celebrities sound too good to be true… it likely is! So don’t shoot the messenger! 2. Know what you’re taking and WHY Is this what you need at this stage in your hormonal transition? A perimenopausal woman with crazy heavy periods and migraines needs very different support to a post menopausal woman with anxiety and hot flushes… Yet it blows my mind that so many “hormone” supplements don’t distinguish between the two. 3. Is it in a therapeutic dose and in the right form? If it has a hundred ingredients… that sounds impressive, but reality is it’s a minute amount in each capsule… is it enough? Unlikely! And if your digestion is off… you do NOT need an abrasive “gut” supplement. If fibre is like a broom for your bum, bentonite clay is like sandpaper…just saying. I'm not saying that all supplements are bad. In fact I firmly believe they can give your body the support it needs when it's in the right dose and the right form. I share some of my fav nutrients that I use with my clients…AND I give you the form and the doses you need, that's actually going to make a real difference. If you do need supplement advice I highly recommend you see an accredited practitioner , or reach out to us… this is our jam!

Today's episode will focus on a topic that is often overlooked but critically important: the mental health impact of perimenopause and menopause both in business and in the workplace.
Most of us are aware of the physical symptoms of menopause, such as hot flushes and night sweats, but the impact on mental health is often less talked about.
The hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can affect our brain chemistry, leading to emotional and cognitive symptoms. Women may experience mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, and memory lapses.
These symptoms can be distressing and impact a woman's overall well-being, not only in her personal, but also in her professional and working life.
Without effective strategies in place to manage this, we see women struggling with self confidence as they face discrimination, bias, or negative perceptions related to their age or hormonal changes, which can result in limited career advancement opportunities or exclusion from certain roles or projects.
With the right strategies though, we can at the same time be more assertive in our negotiations, decision-making, and leadership roles.
It's important to remember that menopause is a natural phase of life, and it's okay to prioritise your well-being during this time. Be kind to yourself, practice self-compassion, and reach out for support when needed. Remember that you're not alone, and there are resources available to help you navigate this journey.

Should I eat soy?
This is a really common question I get asked all the time and in a word – YES! Why? Because soy contains phytoestrogens.
Phytoestrogens get their name because they exert a weak estrogen-like effect, but they are NOT estrogen.
Phytoestrogens bind so weakly to estrogen receptors and can have a mild balancing effect. They will increase the effect when estrogen levels are low, so very beneficial after menopause – and they have a lowering effect if estrogen is too high, which can also be beneficial for symptoms of estrogen excess during perimenopause.
Phytoestrogens occur in plant foods such as nuts, seeds, wholegrains and legumes. In moderate amounts they are healthy. In a large amount, they can make periods lighter and sometimes suppress ovulation.
The best known phytoestrogens are lignans from flaxseeds and isoflavones from soy.
In this episode, we will be discussing the potential health benefits and risks of soy and phytoestrogens and provide practical tips for incorporating them into a healthy diet.

Have you ever caught yourself saying, "I eat really healthy, but..."? Well, you're not alone. In fact, many of us believe we have a healthy diet and let's face it, we all have a fair idea of what healthy eating looks like. But what if it’s not delivering the results we are after? There are a few common traps that we can fall into, usually led by clever marketing, which is where things can go wrong. In today's episode we look at a few of the common “healthy eating” traps we can fall into and what to do instead! 1. Why we think we’re eating healthier than we actually are 2. Misleading “healthy” labelling to watch for 3. Where the “‘extras” are lurking in your salad and smoothie 4. Vegan and plant based is often not as healthy as you think You are not a One Size Fits All so what’s “healthy” for me, may not work for you! I hope you enjoy this episode and If you have any questions or topics you'd like us to cover in the future, please hit reply or leave a comment. Thanks for tuning in, and see you next time!

In todays episode, I have special guest Tara Nelson, a Naturopath and very good friend of mine with over 30 years of clinical experience and a special interest in the treatment and support of thyroid disease, particularly Hashimotos.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis, also known as Hashimoto's disease, is an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid gland. The immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, causing inflammation and damage to the gland. As a result, the thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone, leading to hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid).
Hashimoto's thyroiditis affects women more often than men and often presents around the time of big hormonal changes, such as postpartum (after child birth) or during perimenopause and menopause. The exact cause is not known, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors Symptoms of Hashimoto's thyroiditis can vary, but typically include fatigue, weight gain, sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, hair loss, joint pain, low mood and muscle weakness. Many symptoms that happen to cross over with peri and menopause!! Tara and I speak about the difficulty in getting a diagnosis of Hashimoto's and what tests you should be asking for, particularly if you know or feel that something is just not right, and if you have a family history of thyroid issues.
The sooner the diagnosis, the sooner you can ensure appropriate treatment to support the thyroid and the immune system, and prevent further damage to the thyroid gland. With proper management, most people with Hashimoto's thyroiditis are able to lead normal, healthy lives.
If you’re wanting fill bloods and a thyroid panel - ask for the following:
Full Blood Count CRP + ESR Iron study Liver function B12 Vitamin D Blood glucose Insulin HbA1c Thyroid panel including - TSH, T3, T4 - Anti thyroglobulin (anti-Tg) antibodies - Antithyroid peroxidise (anti-TPO)

Stress is sneaky and the effects of stress can hit us in ways that we least expect. As our hormones shift and decline during perimenopause and menopause we do become more susceptible to the effects of stress and this can have a significant impact on our physical, mental, and emotional health.
In today's episode, we’re looking at the best tips and strategies to keep on top of stress.
We can’t always control what’s going on around us, but we can change the way we respond!
Stress can manifest in physical symptoms such as hot flushes, weight gain, fatigue, digestive problems, insomnia, headaches, and joint pain.
Mental and emotional symptoms of stress can include depression, irritability, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, mood swings, and increased feelings of sadness.
Stress can also lead to changes in behaviour, such as increased alcohol or drug use, changes in eating habits with emotional eating and increased cravings, plus engaging in risky behaviours.
Now is more important than ever to put your own self care first, to avoid burnout and an escalation in weight and health issues.
Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, and proper nutrition become essential, and in some cases, medications or hormone therapy is also warranted.
Listen to those little whispers… if these symptoms are speaking to you, it’s time to pay attention before they start yelling!

Tell me I’m not alone… accidentally sneezing, laughing, spontaneous jumping and I might just end up having a “wee little accident”. Pelvic floor issues are common, but they can be embarrassing and challenging to discuss.
In this week’s episode of The Hormone Hub, we talk about leakage, prolapse and painful sex with Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist Katherine Baquie.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support the organs in the pelvis, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum. They also play a crucial role in sexual function, bowel and bladder control, and core stability.
Some red flags that might indicate there are pelvic floor issues are:
How a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist Can Help
A pelvic floor physiotherapist will perform a thorough assessment (including an internal assessment) to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop a personalised treatment plan to address your specific needs.
Kath shares the various treatment options available, including lifestyle and exercise modifications, improving bowel function, muscle strengthening and core exercises, pessaries, biofeedback, manual therapy, and education about bladder and bowel health.
Pelvic floor dysfunction is common for many women, but it's essential to pay attention to the red flags and signs that indicate you need help.
Seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you get the treatment you need to improve your quality of life. Remember, pelvic floor issues are nothing to be embarrassed about, and seeking help is always the first step!

One of the biggest bugbears I hear from women in peri and menopause (actually make that women of any age!) is that they are putting on weight.
We’ve been conditioned to be slaves to the scale and most of us have a history and an unhealthy relationship with the scales and the numbers it gives us.
Now I totally get what it feels like when you just don’t feel good in your own skin. Your clothes might feel tight, maybe you become more bloated as the day progresses, your cycle can trigger fluid retention and about a hundred other reasons…
But what I often hear is “I’m not losing weight” or I’ve put on X number of kilos.
I understand that it can be really frustrating to work hard to maintain a healthy body weight, only to step on the bathroom scale and see the numbers going in the wrong direction - or not quickly enough in the right direction! Then the “F&*K it” factor kicks in and all of your consistency goes out the window! You are worth more than an arbitrary number on an outdated appliance!
Today I’m going to give you 10 good reasons to toss out your scales once and for all - and why they are the WORST measure of your health and wellbeing.
I hope this convinces you that the scales are a terrible measure of your true health! You are worth WAY more than a number!

Do you feel like you never have enough time to do all the things you want to do? If so, you’re not alone. Many women struggle with feeling overwhelmed and overscheduled. We wear “busy” as a badge of honour… Fortunately, there are some simple strategies that can help you become less busy and enjoy more free time. 1. Prioritise Your Tasks One of the best ways to become less busy is to prioritise your tasks. Take a few minutes each day to look at your to-do list and decide what’s most important. And just do this. 2. Delegate No one can do it all alone. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends. See if there are tasks you can delegate to them so you can have more time for yourself. (I’m looking at your kids!!!) 3. Say No Do you find yourself saying yes to too many things? Learning to say no can be difficult, but it’s important for preserving your sanity. If you have too much on your plate, don’t be afraid to turn down requests. 4. Make Time for Yourself It’s easy to get so busy that you forget to take time for yourself. Make sure to schedule some “me time” each week to relax and rejuvenate. This could be anything from reading a book to going for a walk. 5. Learn to Let Go Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to do everything perfectly that we forget to just let go and enjoy life. Start with small things, like letting go of perfectionism and learning to accept imperfections. This will help you become less busy and less stressed. Simple things that will allow you to become less busy and enjoy more free time to do the things that make you happy. Here's my gift to you... Is Stress Sabotaging your Metabolism

Today, I want to talk to you about something that many of us struggle with: BALANCE!
Not necessarily physical balance, or even a hormone balance (that’s coming!) ... but a balanced life.
If you juggle a career, family, eating a healthy diet, exercise, and a social life … balance is the only solution.
To be balanced means that you’re able to manage various elements of your life without feeling like you are struggling.
Easier said than done, right?
Now, I know you’re leading a very busy life, but take a few moments this week and check in with yourself to see how "balanced" you feel.
When you’re balanced, you feel calm, grounded, clear-headed, focused, and motivated.
When you are unbalanced, you feel restless and uneasy and small things can become overwhelming.
Your patience drops and you become reactive and feel more anxious and stressed.
In todays episode I explore a few simple steps you can take to restore balance.
To help you feel more grounded, calm and connected.
Start by defining your own balance.
You do you!
Living up to other people’s expectations and comparing yourself to others can be a source of deep anxiety, so let that go - there is no right or wrong.
What works for some, will not necessarily work for you.
One of the most important things you’ll ever do is define what you want YOUR life to look like, and what your idea of "balance" is.
This week, take a few minutes each day to connect and check-in with yourself. Find your inner balance and actively work towards achieving it!
To get you started, here's 50 Ideas for Self Carehttps://hormonehub.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/Drip+Content/5.+50+Tips+for+Self+Care.pdf
Enjoy!
Here’s the down low.
When it comes to navigating your hormones through perimenopause and menopause, we need to work WITH your changing hormones. For long term results we need to find a balance so we can create new habits and realistic changes that are going to fit with your busy life!
In this episode, I’m going to guide you through small simple changes that are working with our clients and will boost your energy in the first week… WITHOUT needing to give up your favourites, without feeling exhausted, bloated and burned out.
The results aren’t typical but clients who’ve gone through this:
A full time teacher who was finally able to get on top of her IBS after suffering for 20 years
A busy salon owner who dropped 2 dress sizes and overcame the joint pain that was crippling her every day.
A Mum of 2 teenage girls, in an executive role who was able to overcome her debilitating pain and heavy bleeding which left her in bed for 2 days each month and avoid the surgery she didn’t want to have.
A retail worker contemplating weight loss surgery instead worked at creating a healthier relationship with food and her body…. Who went on to lose 20kg.
An entrepreneur who was able to overcome her anxiety and hot flushes so she felt more confident within herself.
They did this by creating small changes and by being consistent with these changes.
This is perfect for you if…
…You’re already eating healthy and can’t quite put your finger on what’s not working
OR
…Feeling overwhelmed with all the conflicting information and just don’t know where to start. So you haven’t.
OR
…Think it’s just too hard to get started on this. I’ve got you.
These are simple steps you can take to recharge your energy that doesn’t require you to stick to a restrictive meal plan, miss out on your favourite Holiday favourites or wondering what you’re “allowed” to eat at a restaurant.
And still have the energy to enjoy life, not feel exhausted and burned out.
You and I will go over everything you need to get started.
You’ll also walk away knowing:
Exactly what to eat for your body that makes you feel nourished, lighter and more energised and exactly which foods are causing you to feel heavy, bloated and inflamed (You’ll do a Food Sensitivity Test – so it’s not a guess or a one size fits all)
How to support your hormones and your metabolism and why we need to stop using a bandaid approach to our health.
Tools in your kit to navigate this transition and see the positives it can bring!
How does it work?
We start off with a step by step plan so it’s not too overwhelming.
Small steps at your pace.
This isn’t a “on a diet” program where you have to find lots of time in your busy schedule and need to be perfect or you’ve fallen “off the wagon”.
There is always going to be Christmas and Holidays and Easter and Birthdays and Fridays… so stop waiting for the “right time” as it’s not coming.
I’ll give you bite sized chunks you can knock out in a few minutes a day.
During our time together we hang out and I help you with specific strategies for where YOU’RE at right now and YOUR current challenges when it comes to your health, hormones, sleep, managing stress and so on so we can put it into action and get you the results you’ve been wanting.
I really want to create some great case studies so the team and I will be spending time with you to make sure we maximise your results!
And there are plenty of surprise bonuses inside.
What Do You Need To Do?
Have an open mind and willingness to trust the process
A commitment to yourself (this is not a magic pill – rather a choice to do things differently. If you don’t make changes, then changes don’t happen!)
A positive attitude and a sense of fun… this doesn’t need to be serious and hard.

We’ve been conditioned to take “medicine” to “fix” our symptoms. What if we have got it wrong?
There is certainly a place for medicine or pharmaceuticals, I’m not disputing that, but when it comes to women’s health it’s often a band aid approach, which might relieve symptoms but doesn’t address the underlying cause.
If you’ve ever been told that everything is “normal” yet you feel anything but… this could be why.
When we address the underlying causes of a hormone imbalance, or low energy or difficulty losing weight or not sleeping, then we have a much better chance of alleviating the symptoms permanently and keeping the weight off for good. In Part 4 of the Hormone Series, we talk about two key areas to address for balanced hormones and digestive harmony… resolving a multitude of annoying and frustrating symptoms in the process!
Digestive Harmony
Gut health is in the spotlight – improving the way you absorb nutrients from your food, and eliminating correctly is key.
Hormone Balancing
Our liver is our hormone filtration system and is essential to support during perimenopause or menopause. A healthy liver means effective hormone clearing, supported blood sugar and improved thyroid function.
If you’d like some support with this – then this is exactly what we do in the Well Balanced Woman program.
PS… When you’re ready, here’s 3 ways I can help you reboot your energy, shift the stubborn weight gain and take back control of your changing hormones.

As your estrogen and progesterone hormones fluctuate in your 40s during perimenopause, and naturally produce lower levels after 50, your body becomes more sensitive to signal a key fat storage hormone.
This is the biggest change your body has undergone since puberty (well apart from pregnancy but that’s another topic for another day!).
It can leave you feeling exhausted, waking up in the night, cranky and reaching for sugar, chocolate, wine and cheese just to keep you going through a busy day.
And how your body burns fat (or not…) has completely changed.
If you’re going low carb, keto, doing crazy long fasts or restricting your calories… this may have worked back in your 30s.
But now you’ve hit your 40s and 50s, this is the fastest way to hit a plateau, zap your energy or worse… gain more weight!
To say the least, once you hit your 40’s and 50s, regaining your energy and shifting that belly fat requires you to work WITH your hormones.
Today we look at how to regulate this pesky fat storing hormone, so you CAN stop feeling frustrated when “nothing works” and start to lose and maintain a healthy weight instead.

In this special summer edition of the Hormone Series we look at how our hormones have a powerful effect and can impact us physically, mentally and emotionally. In this 5 part Hormone Series, we look at how we can go from Hormone Havoc to Hormone Harmony.
Part 2, todays episode we look at...
How Stress can Mess With Your Hormones!
Stress can impact EVERYTHING from your thyroid, your metabolism, your energy, your digestion, immune system and nervous system.
What does stress look like for you?
Stress can be big life "death/divorce/taxes" stress or little "can't find my keys" stress. The problem is, our body can't actually tell the difference.
The signs of chronic stress can show up as fatigue, weight gain, cravings, mood swings, digestive issues, insomnia all without you even realising.
Stress isn’t going away but unless we start supporting our hormones and change the way we respond to stress, we are always going to have an uphill battle and a block to our weight loss efforts.
ALL the fasting and HIIT gym workouts in the world can be putting your body under more stress and perpetuating the cycle!
If you're feeling like rubbish and you've been told that everything is "normal" then push for more answers.
To be well and feel well, we want you in the optimal range... which is very different to sitting on the outsides of "normal"!
If you'd like some support with this - then this is exactly what we do in the Well Balanced Woman program.
I hope you enjoy Part 2 of the Hormone Series.

In today’s episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Ashleigh Moreland, a neuroscientist and therapist who supports people in overcoming past challenges and traumas, and to transcend the struggles impacting their daily lives – individually, in relationships, within families and within team environments – so they can start living and thriving, rather than surviving.
Ash’s work involves the research of the impact of stress on the brain and how neuroplasticity can essentially change our response so we can overcome life long subconscious thoughts and behaviours that show up as self sabotage, people pleasing overwhelm, anxiety, depression and more.
Trauma can mean a lot of different things, including abuse or sexual trauma, but it can also mean emotionally unavailable parents, breached trust, inconsistent or unpredictable moods from caregivers, general lack of safety or consistent nurturing, rejection, abandonment, or so many other things.
This can also mean intergenerational trauma – so programming from well before we were born.
If we experience developmental trauma or grow up in an environment that does not support safe co-regulation or connection, we learn from a very young age to adapt and almost “expect” unsafety or trauma so that it cannot impact us or threaten our survival so much.
As a result, we might block out memories, we might emotionally numb ourselves, we might become people pleasers to avoid the pain associated with having unmet needs.. So later experiences of traumatic events don’t appear to impact us quite so much because we are already primed for numbing and blocking as a way to stay alive. We may even develop very high pain thresholds and feel safest when we have no one (even though we have a primal desire for connection). The root childhood trauma will have a much more significant impact than the one off acute traumas because that’s what wired you for survival in the first place, rather than to just live a life of safety and connection. As an adult, this might make it hard to really trust others, to deeply connect with others, to be present, and we might have a tendency to overwork or burnout. We are so conditioned to having to BE busy DOING “all the things”. When we are focusing on living life in a state of DOING, the experience of life is us BEING frustrated, stressed, tired, cranky, strung out.
The energy that goes into DOING more things to BE less stressed is heavy, chaotic, “busy”, which ironically actually results in more stress.
Ashleigh’s approach is that we may just have it backwards. The road to wellbeing is BEING well. Meaning that being well is being present. Peaceful. Patient. Calm. Joyful. Not busy. So rather than focusing on all the things you need to DO to achieve wellbeing, how about focusing on eliminating the barriers to you BEING well, and then watch yourself thrive.
I hope you enjoy this episode.

There is no question that perimenopause and menopause can be a rollercoaster ride. Physical symptoms are commonly associate with menopause, things like hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain, vaginal dryness, and sleep issues.
What’s less recognised though, are the very real psychological changes that come from fluctuating and decreased levels of hormones.
As we lose the protective cover of (psycho-protective) estrogen we become more sensitive to stress, leading to a chronically elevated level of cortisol, which in turn suppresses our happy “feel good” hormones - namely serotonin and oxytocin and our warm and fuzzy endorphins.
This shift in hormones can lead to an increase in anxiety, low mood and depression, which many women may experience for the first time, or an increased susceptibility for those who have previously experienced this.
So if you’ve found yourself being bothered or upset by things that wouldn’t normally affect you....
Or
You're feeling irritable and want to rip someone’s head off… then there’s a few things I’d like you to try.
First up - be kind to yourself and cut yourself some slack. There is a LOT going on in your life right now. It’s OK to feel what you feel.
If worrying is ruling your life or causing you anxiety, try this powerful technique that I was introduced to by the wonderful mindset coach and hypnotherapist Elaine Benson.
This allows you to dodge the dilemmas before they happen and realise that most of the fears you do have, are not the big scary monsters they were in your head.
OK, here we go!
Grab a large piece of paper and draw 4 columns.
Column 1:
Brain dump - Empty your head of all your worries and number them.
Column 2:
For each of the worries - what the worst thing that can happen if it was to
materialise? Sometimes even just doing this step helps you realise that even if the worst were to happen, you would be ok, and that alone can take the pressure off.
Column 3:
For each worst-case scenario, write out what you can do to prevent it from happening. This then becomes a bit of a to-do list with action steps to prevent the problem. Now instead of just worrying about what could go wrong, you have action steps.
Column 4:
Now beside each worry, write about what you can do if the problem were to happen? This takes away your stress, as you have a now have a backup plan!
While this seems super simple, it's an incredibly powerful technique that drastically reduces your anxiety as you have covered off the 'not knowing' and ' worst-case scenarios'.
This allows you to build your confidence to know that you can handle anything and that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for!

Women in their forties and fifties are at the pinnacle of their careers.
In today’s episode, our guest – speaker and best selling author Mel Kettle, talks about the biggest challenges and one of the biggest reasons she believes we need to be talking more about menopause at work.
A loss of confidence, or onset of anxiety can lead us to believe that we are suddenly incapable of doing our jobs. Or of getting that promotion or of applying for another job that may come with more responsibilities because of symptoms of menopause, such as brain fog, overwhelm and forgetfulness – not to mention the physical symptoms.
This in turn means that organizations are losing huge opportunities to have vibrant, intelligent people doing the top jobs, and women are losing opportunities to set themselves up for the rest of their futures and their retirement by stepping away from the workplace prematurely.
Research that shows there’s huge portions of women who either don’t go for a promotion or who request for a demotion. Or who goes from full time to part-time or some other way of reducing their hours because they don’t understand what’s happening or they don’t believe they can cope with having a big job and menopause at the same.
Mel’s latest book (which I can HIGHLY recommend to every single one of you!) Fully Connected, talks about the importance of learning that our first responsibility is to care for ourselves. To make choices that are right for us, instead of what is right for others.
With blurred boundaries between work and life, it can be difficult to find time for this. We’ve glorified being busy to become over-scheduled and over-committed and feel guilty about taking time for ourselves.
Fully Connected is for women and leaders who want to take back ownership of their lives and reclaim their health and energy. On their terms.
And it has BIG font, so it’s easy to read!

If you have ever questioned your alcohol consumption… then you might want to tune into today's episode.
Whether you’ve considered cutting down or quitting altogether - this is a nod that you might actually want more for yourself, and for your life in general.
If you’re curious, I encourage you to think about what you’d like your ultimate relationship with alcohol to look like. (And substitute alcohol for any habit that you’d like to make or break!)
Is it no alcohol at all?
Is it being able to have a drink on the weekend but not midweek?
Is it being able to choose when you do or don’t drink?
Rather than comparing your alcohol intake to people that drink less than you or comparing yourself to people that drink more than you, compare yourself to the person you want to be.
The only comparison you should be making, is comparing your current alcohol intake levels with the alcohol intake you wish you had

As women we are pretty amazing creatures. On the whole we are capable and push through, no matter how we feel, to get done what needs to be done. Our wheels can fall off and we keep going, even when our wheels have well and truly fallen off! When one of our clients Cathy, joined the Well Balanced Woman program 12 months ago, it’s fair to say she was in a pretty fragile state. Like most of us very capable women, she was the master of striving for the next thing, taking on more and doing “all the things”.
Until she became gripped with anxiety and she described herself as a nervous wreck. She had become so used to surviving in a chronically stressed state – and she knew that something had to change before it blew into a more serious health complication.
She realised that for the sake of her relationships, and her own health she needed to prioritise her own well being – no one else was going to do that for her.
Twelve months on, I feel like I’m speaking to a completely different person. Her confidence and her positive outlook is palpable!
The Well Balanced Woman was able to give her the tools to simplify her life, tweak her mostly already healthy eating and give herself permission to put herself first for the very first time in a long time. The result is more energy, no more anxiety and her perimenopause symptoms that were raging had completely disappeared. And she’s taken that to a whole new level by simplifying her life!

Joy shares her inspiring journey of the mindset shift, tools and daily practices that ended her weight struggles four decades ago, long before "intuitive eating" and the "anti-diet" were a thing.
A part of Joy’s amazing story is finding a new life after being widowed at 32 and raising two toddlers alone.
She thought losing her first husband had put her into early menopause, until she fell in love with a guy at 42 and her period returned just long enough to get pregnant! This resulted in her 3rd child and starting all over as a parent at 43.
After her youngest left for college, Joy then took a 9-week sabbatical driving alone (first time, age 61) around the US after 33 years straight of looking after kids at home and ending a marriage.
She talks about the joys of downsizing (4,800 sq ft to 3,300 to 2,000 to 736) as a single woman.
The importance of journaling as a discovery tool and writing a book after 40 years of procrastinating AND the release of this new book, The Cherry Pie Paradox.
At 82 years of age, Joy truly is an inspiration and this was such a fun episode to record and living proof that the best may indeed be yet to come!

If you can’t remember where you put your keys, struggling with brain fog and having trouble getting your words out you might be worried that you are literally losing your mind and this can be a frightening prospect for any woman, particularly when we’re undergoing a significant hormonal transition.
Today I want to reassure you that your marbles are relatively safe… at least for now!
The research around the effect of changing estrogen levels on our brain is relatively limited, as seems to be the case with so many women’s health related conditions, but the GOOD NEWS is there are definitely differentiations between age related cognitive decline and the menopause related brain changes.
To be clear, dementia or neurocognitive disorder, as it’s now termed, has a neuropathology of disease, in the form of plaques and tangles in the brain, which is not what’s going on in menopause.
During perimenopause and menopause the brain is adjusting to having less oestrogen. Layer this on top of a lack of sleep, a stressful or unhappy period and let’s face it, there’s just a lot going on at this time of life!
This can temporarily leave us with a slowing down of memory retrieval, which makes us feel forgetful. So naturally we jump on Dr Google and automatically assume the worst!
So, next time you can’t find your keys, or you’ve lost your words, or you think you’re losing your marbles, give yourself some slack and relax… it’s more likely you’ve got a lot on your plate.

Iron deficiency anemia is particularly common among women and people who have diets low in iron.
On today’s podcast episode we chat with Asia Sharif-Clark who struggled with iron deficiency anemia for 33 years before finding a doctor who suggested investigating the cause of why she wasn't absorbing and storing iron, as opposed to ongoing supplements and infusions.
Following her experience, Asia then became a Certified International Health Coach and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. Today she helps other women with Iron Deficiency Anemia who want to boost their energy naturally and maintain it, so they can stop dragging and start living, with more energy, passion, and joy.
Today we jump right in and look at the signs and how women know if they are anemic. We talk about the five thieves of anemia that rob women of living a full life, including some symptoms that we may not have linked with anemia.
Asia shares the three must ask questions women need to ask their doctors for a faster recovery and also where to go to get more support.

“My libido has left the planet” is how one of my clients described her sex life. When we hit perimenopause and menopause there’s a lot going on… hormonal changes can be the tip of the iceberg.
The drop in oestrogen and androgens (our “male” hormones) can certainly impact us physically on many levels…but how about the fact that we’re simply exhausted. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to have the energy to walk the dog, let alone jump around in the sack.
It’s also not uncommon for our self confidence to take a hit… if we’re not loving what we’re seeing in the mirror it definitely affects how we might be feeling about ourselves right now. When that waistline is ever expanding, it doesn’t always lead to “let’s get naked!”
Today we talk about the physical, mental and emotional aspect of how our libido can be impacted and a few simple steps we can take to start feeling sexy again.

Weight loss surgery is a BIG business and a fast growing industry.
I’m often asked for my opinion, so today I’m not holding back!
There’s no doubt that in the short term, weight loss is a given. BUT in this episode I’m sharing what the surgery looks like 3-5 or so years down the track. It can certainly be effective and have long term results for some, however like all things when it comes to health and hormones, it’s not a golden ticket to lifelong health and weight loss and I talk about why this is.
We look at the three most common types of weight loss surgery, the ball park costs for the surgery, plus the extras you need to consider. Plus the cost to your long term health and relationship with food.
If weight loss surgery has been on your mind - or it’s something your doctor has suggested, then you need to listen to this and see the other side of the coin to make an informed choice.
I can hand on heart, promise there is a better way!

Let’s talk about those “normal results”!
In today’s episode I jump in and talk about why your test results can be “normal” yet you feel anything BUT! And most importantly what you can choose to do about it…
It seems that menopause is getting more airtime, which is great but perimenopause still seems to be a mystery to all and barely discussed. It even comes up on autocorrect as an unknown word! (I know this because I type it 1000 times a day!) but from my perspective, it’s PERI menopause that does the real damage to a woman and her relationships and the sooner we support your hormones, the better the transition through menopause.
I’m certainly not diminishing the rough time that women experience during menopause at all, but menopause is more understood and there seems to be a better understanding of medical treatments but there’s crickets chirping when it comes to perimenopause.
The good news is, there is a lot we can do from a diet and lifestyle perspective, and most importantly how we manage our stress.
Today we look at what works for women who are wanting to make a change and know that they deserve better.
I promise that you DO NOT have to accept that this is “just the way it is”.

“The big secret in life is that there is no secret. Whatever is your goal, you can get there if you are willing to work.”
This is one of my favourite quotes from Oprah Winfrey and can be applied to just about any aspect of our life, including our health and well being!
In today’s episode I’m talking about the one secret you need to know about creating amazing results. Actually, maybe it’s TWO secrets.
And I hope what I have to tell you comes as a big relief – and also inspires you!
I also take a DEEPER dive into that with a solid tip to help keep you motivated!
As Oprah said, the secret to success is that there is no secret.
It boils down to this:
Consistently applying the BASICS will bring you the most results, the fastest.
But here’s the thing, BASIC is NOT the same as BORING. In fact, it’s far from it!
Today I’m talking about how you make the journey to your results FUN and ENJOYABLE!
OK… so let’s dive in!

Spring time here in the southern hemisphere and back to school in the northern, so we are about to be inundated with detoxes, cleanses, potions, pills and diets to have us feeling younger, skinnier and “cleaner”!
So do we need a radical detox?
The short answer is NO. BUT (hehe I feel I throw in a BUT every week) mindfully cutting back on toxins and overindulging in alcohol and comfort foods can support the physical, mental and emotional (and hormonal!) imbalances from an unhealthy lifestyle.
Now our body is designed to be in a constant state of detoxification and it does this naturally - through our colon, lungs, kidneys, liver and skin…but if we are feeling a little sluggish and heavy there are a lot of simple steps we can take to give it a helping hand!
In today’s episode we have a look at simple steps you can take to choose to eat and consume everything in your life well. Including what you eat, listen to, speak and read.
If you are looking for a circuit breaker that’s not too radical, our 10 Day Kickstart starts Monday and might just be the trick to getting you started.

You might be thinking…yep I want to make some changes BUT…
I’m really busy, how will I have time
I’ve tried everything and nothing works
How do I know this will work for me?
In the last few episodes I’ve been talking a lot about the importance of getting your blood sugar under control to switch off your fat storage hormones, reset your metabolism and shift your mindset. Today I bring it together and showcase some of our Well Balanced Woman clients, who are regular women, just like you, with busy lives, limited time and were able to make simple changes and get the results they were after.
It’s important to see examples of what real success looks like so that you can ground yourself in the knowing that it’s possible for you too…
It’s also important to know that my clients are all time poor - busy working women just like you, juggling work, partners, families. If they can do it, you can too and today I’m going to show you how they did it.

We are all connected to biological rhythms and cycles that influence the natural ebbs and flows of our energy, our nutritional needs and our sleep patterns.
Regardless of whether or not you are still menstruating, on birth control, had a hysterectomy or been through menopause, you can still tap into these rhythms. We aren’t robots and we definitely don’t have the same levels of energy, appetite, creativity and productivity day in and day out.
By tuning in to these cycles, we can tune into what our body needs.
These biological rhythms influence important functions such as:
Sleep
Metabolism
Heart Rate
Blood Pressure
Body Temperature
Urine production, and
Hormone levels.
Start to notice the similarities…
Interesting connection!!
Each phase offers a different kind of energy than the last, even coming down to the different food requirements that our body needs during each specific phase.
Once you tap into these trends, you will see powerful shifts in your energy levels, your mood, digestion, sleep, creativity, productivity and overall health.
Moon cycling links our menstrual phases to our lunar cycle. So regardless of whether we are menstruating or not, we can be guided by a cycle.
The lunar cycle is one of the most powerful cycles on the planet. It’s part of controlling the four seasons, and it affects the tidal currents in the ocean. The interaction between the sun, the moon and the earth all play a role in this.
Following the lunar cycle and syncing up to its rhythm is simpler than you think!
It may take you a couple of weeks to get the hang of it, but once you do, its pretty easy to follow along with the lunar phases.

Is it a diet…is it a supplement…. NO, it’s a different way of looking at the way we eat.
Today I speak with farmer Greg Peterson, from Urban Farm, who is on a mission to transform our global food system.
It’s a sentiment I couldn’t agree with more. Our bodies were designed to eat real food - not manufactured and processed “food”.
Years ago I ran nutrition talks in kindergartens and the kids came up with this rhyme. It’s “real food” if:
If it grew in the ground
Or grew on a tree
If it lived on the earth
Or swam in the sea…
When we are eating locally grown, in season produce it is 100% better for us AND better for the planet. Our current food system is broken. The lack of nutrition, proliferation of environmental toxins and manufactured foods, and the average distance our food travels to our tables, has reduced its nutritional density.
We are opting for convenience over nutrition, and paying for it with our health.
We’ve lost touch with what real food looks like and in this great conversation, Greg and I drill down into the cracks that are in our current food system and also simple steps you take to make a change to your own health and the health of the planet.
We have a chat about:
We also dip our toes into Greg’s passion for permaculture AND how you can get started simply and cheaply to have your own fresh produce - even if you have limited space, money and time!

Bloating, gas and hives, oh my!
You’ve no doubt heard the quote that food can be our medicine… and the flip side is, it can be our poison too. There is no doubt that our hormones change the way our body responds to food and this can bring on a range of inflammatory and very often annoying symptoms.
The fastest way to stop guessing which foods (and products such as toothpastes and deodorants too!) are not right for you right now, is with a food sensitivity test.
Identify exactly which foods aren't working for you - instead of restrictive elimination diets that take out entire food groups unnecessarily, leaving you feeling as though there is nothing left to eat.
In todays episode I explain why I have used this particular test with every single client, for the past 5 years and why it works.
Food sensitivity tests have proven to be effective for the treatment of:

When we hit 50 (or 40 or 60 for that matter!) we are NOT old ladies. Not even close to it. We have plenty of living left to do and we should be living vibrant and energetic lives! We also come with the benefits of experience, wisdom and hindsight!
In this episode, it is my turn to be interviewed by the vivacious Kip Clarke, host of the Wild and Wise Women Over 50 masterclass series. Kip created the masterclass series for women to reignite your passions and use the wisdom of your decades to unleash a vibrant, sexy new you!
In our interview we talked about how we are living in this body for the next 20, 30, 40, 50 and more years - so we need to pay attention to it, take care of it and we need to learn to love it. If we aren’t taking care of it, no one else is going to.
When we think of our pets. How long until we take the dog to the vet if it starts to limp? We’re on the phone immediately booking appointments and x rays. How about the kids? Maybe a few days, more of a wait and see but we generally end up erring on the side of caution. Then when it comes to our own body or how we are feeling… It can be months or even YEARS before we actually address what is going on.
Our bodies never lie. Our bodies tell us the truth and we have learned to master the art of ignoring it. Ladies it’s time to pay attention to that little tap on the shoulder before it becomes a smack on the head!
Life is to be lived and it’s never too late to start loving the body you’re in.

Estrogen plays a big role in our reproductive health, it gives us our boobs and curves, it is critical in helping us create healthy pregnancies and babies.
On top of that, estrogen promotes new bone growth - preventing osteoporosis, and also supports our cardiovascular health and plays a role in regulating our insulin response to prevent insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes.
There is however a fine line between too much and not enough estrogen.
Fluctuating and high estrogen, which is common during perimenopause, can trigger a range of inflammatory symptoms.
Similarly low levels of estrogen during and post menopause can be just as problematic in the form of hot flushes, insomnia, anxiety and overwhelm - resulting in a loss of confidence and self esteem.
Today we look at the literal highs and lows and how you can best support your hormones and your body through this transition and come out the other side - feeling more energised and confident than ever.

As women many of us are natural people pleasers. We have an extraordinary capacity to take on more to support others - we’re honestly all a bit too capable for our own good! Be it partners, children, parents, friends, family, work, community and we’ve been doing it most of our lives, so it’s ingrained deep into our psyche.
Today I share a great conversation with leadership coach Jo Zulaica. Jo is an experienced leadership coach who works with women professionally to help them find their voice and step into their full potential.
Jo’s work is particularly relevant for all of us in this mid phase of life, and helps coach women to shut down that negative self chatter, tap into your core values and step into your own identity - the one that’s outside being a partner/ wife/ mother/ daughter / employee and so on.
We talk about the importance of filling your own cup and how having the confidence to put ourselves first - physically, mentally and emotionally, means we’re coming from a very abundant place, a very full up, a very happy, a very fulfilled and satisfied and rich place.
In this episode Jo and I talk about the importance of filling your own cup first and what that looks like for you.
Jo gives us some great questions to think about and the good, sometimes surprising news is, we get to choose!
How do I want to be?
How do I want to eat?
How do I get my energy?
How do I restore?
How do I fill my cup?

If you can’t sleep at night, then you’re not alone.
While sleep is so essential for our health, it can also be so elusive. It’s often one of the first signs and symptoms of peri menopause – quickly followed by exhaustion and fatigue, and can last well beyond menopause (really…did it ever come back after kids??!!).
Here we look at why you’re struggling to get a decent night’s sleep and what you can do about it.
Sleep is one of the fundamental building blocks towards health. Poor sleep has clinically been shown to increase the risk of developing;
Oh the joys!
While sleeping tablets and even antidepressants are commonly prescribed for women struggling to sleep, it might help with short term relief…but to really make a lasting change, we need to get to the underlying causes of why we are waking up in the first place. Otherwise it’s going to be a constant struggle!
In today’s episode I chat about:
– Some of the common reasons WHY your sleep might be so disrupted
– How you can combat this naturally.

Why is it that we can have all the best intentions in the world but we just can’t get ourselves to the finish line?
In this episode I speak with my good friend, Karlie McKeand who is a naturopath and the creator of NER - Naturopathic Emotional Release. We look at the unconscious stresses that lead us to sabotaging our goals, stemming from underlying emotions or underlying stress patterns that throw us off track from what we set out to achieve.
This can be due to certain belief systems, or things that happened in our past, that we may or may not be aware of, where our brain has created a particular pattern designed to keep us safe.
This can be really helpful in certain situations - for example unconsciously slamming on the brakes if a car stops in front of us. Then other times it creates that self-sabotaging pattern and the result is that sometimes we don't do the things that we really want to.
Karlie has created a protocol called NER - Naturopathic Emotional Release, can be used to assess underlying emotional drivers on clients of all ages.
NER has successfully been used to treat:

Once you hit your 40s and 50s, your body is undergoing the biggest change since puberty which can leave you feeling exhausted, waking up in the night, cranky and reaching for sugar, chocolate, wine and cheese just to keep you going through a busy day.
And how your body burns fat (or not…) has completely changed.
To say the least, once you hit your 40’s and 50s, regaining your energy and shifting that belly fat requires you to work WITH your hormones.
As your estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate wildly from your early 40s and and naturally produce less around 50, your body becomes more sensitive to signal a key fat storage hormone - namely insulin.
Naturally declining levels of estrogen puts you at risk of weight gain and having insulin resistance worsens the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause - but the news isn’t all bad!
In this episode I cover:
The signs of insulin resistance and what to be tested for
Why conventional recommendation of “lose weight” isn’t helpful
How to overcome cravings
Diet and lifestyle considerations

No woman should be left to silently suffer the potentially debilitating symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. There are lots of options available to us - both naturally in the form of diet, lifestyle, stress management and also in the form of HRT or what is now known as MHT - Menopause Hormone Therapy.
Today I’m not talking for or against MHT and I talk about why it doesn’t have to be an either / or scenario.
I want to give you the facts so you can make informed decisions about what is right for YOU and YOUR body. No one knows your body better than you do and you also have your own personal threshold of what symptoms you’re prepared to put up with.
We talk about the different types of Hormone Therapy, what type of Hormone Therapy is appropriate for the different stages of perimenopause and menopause - the benefits and also the downsides or risks associated.
In this episode we talk about:

It likely comes as no surprise that alcohol, health, hormones and weight loss goals generally don’t mix, and if we’re being honest, there really are many valid reasons to have a serious look at our drinking habits and drastically reduce or even give up the booze.
Certainly having a glass of wine, or whatever your drink of choice, is also a cherished pastime, a form of self-medication, a conduit for connecting with friends and is infused into most of our social gatherings - if you’ve been hanging around me long enough, you’ll know that I’m not adverse to a cheeky glass of wine.
So what does it take to stop drinking? Today we have a special guest Nicole Layton, the Director of Insight Talent Solutions - Recruiter, career and mindfulness coach, who openly and honestly shares her decision to give up alcohol for close to two years.
Nicole shares how she came to this decision, the process and benefits that came from it and also the resistance of other people when you are trying to navigate a social life without alcohol.
This is a must listen episode for anyone who has ever questioned their own alcohol consumption, or woken up and vowed to stop drinking, or starts most Mondays with a “no alcohol until the weekend” vow and makes it until Wednesday…
In this episode our guest Nicole shares her story of giving up alcohol for close to 2 years.

Today we’re getting serious… Heart disease is the #1 cause of death of women worldwide, and 1 woman every hour in Australia aged 45-65 dies as a result of heart disease. That’s around 3 x more than breast cancer!
The good news is, it’s also largely preventable!!
While so much of my work and what I talk about is focused on hormone health - by managing this with dietary and lifestyle changes we are actually also reducing your risk of heart disease at the same time… it’s very much a holistic approach.
Don’t let those little whispers turn into screams. Get checked and start making some positive changes today. If you’re waiting for a sign - this is it!
In this episode I talk about the risk factors that are specific to women.

“I feel weird” - it’s not right or wrong, it’s how you feel.
Anxiety, anger, rage, depression - these are some of the big emotions that are exacerbated by fluctuating hormones during our 40’ s and 50’s. Today’s guest Nic Topp is a respected mental health naturopath, specialising in mental health and mindset.
We chat about mindset, emotions, confidence and how to navigate this as we deal with our own changing hormones, the mental and emotional loads we carry for others - all while there is still a heaviness in the world.
It’s essential we find the space to take care of ourselves and Nic gives us steps to actually find the pieces of ourselves again - the things that light us up and bring us joy. These are the things that calm our nervous systems and benefit our mental health. It’s OK for us to embrace our wisdom, knowledge and experience and stop people pleasing. The people will be OK!

Today I’m joined by an amazing guest, Missy Beavers. Missy is the founder of The Healthy Solution, helping women end the exhausting thyroid battle. Anyone who has experienced a chronic health condition knows how hopeless it can feel. Missy was diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis as a child and was made to believe by doctors that she’d be on medication for the rest of her life. As an adult, with a Masters in Nutrition, she created a program that reversed the condition and allowed her to step away from medication.
In this episode, Missy and I dig deeper into why the thyroid is so crucial to your health. We talk about the different signs and symptoms and why you shouldn't settle for "normal" thyroid results when you know something isn't right.

Thyroid Blood Tests...
If you're off to your GP, here’s a list of thyroid tests that give you a full picture of what’s going on… Always ask for a copy of your results!
Continue with any prescribed medications unless advised otherwise by your GP....
TSH, T3, T4
Anti thyroglobulin (anti-Tg) antibodies
Antithyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO)
** GP’s don't like to order a full thyroid panel, but this is the simplest way of detecting autoimmune thyroid conditions. If you are showing signs and symptoms, or have a family history, it's certainly worth pushing for!

We don’t just wake up one day and find ourselves in menopause. It’s a natural sequence of hormonal events that happen in the 5-10 years BEFORE menopause. Some of us won’t even know, most of us will find some subtle changes and for others it will impact their day to day life. All women have a different experience and the good news is, it does NOT last forever. As our hormones change, so do our symptoms.

I am on this hormonal journey with you! With half a thyroid and my own experience of burnout or adrenal fatigue means that I get it! Not that my experience is the same as yours, but I understand the frustrations of trying to figure out what is going on and not being heard by medical professionals because I didn’t fit into the box!
I am pleased to say at 50, my energy is fantastic, I’m back to the same weight I was at 40. My thyroid is manageable and while my adrenals can be a little cranky from time to time, I recognise the signs and know I need to listen to those whispers… because ladies, if you don’t listen to the whispers, eventually they will turn into screams!
