Is your nervous system dysregulated on the regular? Are you living in a state of consistent low (or even high) level of stress, anxiety or overwhelm?

Because our nervous systems are constantly scanning our environments for safety, safety is the underpinning of a light and joyful experience, free of stress and overwhelm, most especially in the office. However, many of us are operating in a window of tolerance that includes persistent levels of stress and anxiety. It's almost as if we've accepted that this is the way it has to be (when actually, it doesn't have to be this way).

This episode talks about how to check-in with your nervous system, to become aware when you are not feeling safe and to course correct. Overall it outlines:

  • How to know when you're dysregulated
  • How to source safety from within
  • How to cultivate a safe environment for others (which is one of the most important skills to develop if you lead or manage people)

This episode also covers examples for navigating safety in the workplace.

When we are intentional with our thoughts, our bodies will respond in kind. Yet, our brains are so good at keeping us comfortable and complacent in the familiar.

In this episode, Marie talks about how training our mindset – our conscious and unconscious thoughts and intentions – helps us more purposefully navigate difficult situations. Through consciously channeling our effort in a way that feels intentional, and seeking support when we’d benefit from it, we are better equipped to achieve what we’re setting out to do. Self compassion and hard work can go hand in hand to getting us where we want to go.

This episode is about empathy.

Empathy is mastering the knowing of what is yours and what is someone else’s and skillfully responding emotionally and intellectually based on the circumstance and the human in front of you.

Empathy is trainable – it’s not a muscle or a brain type that some people have and others don’t.

Empathy is worthwhile to take the time to develop in ourselves, our schools, businesses organizations and political groups.

Embodiment is the path to training empathy fully. We cannot intellectualize or storytell around empathy to get it right. Getting it (or understanding empathy) is not enough.

In this episode, Marie demonstrates that fully understanding how others feel and where they are coming from is not empathy (only one part of empathy). Without total empathy, we manipulate, rather than move.

Marie shares her story from scoring 0/10 on the empathy scale, to scoring a 10/10. Listen to learn more about how you can develop empathy in yourself or your team and organization.

In this 4 month update of being in business without social media, Marie shares some key insights about the pace of business, nature and the world. It's not about how fast we move, but rather how often we are willing to show up. It's about how many times we come back to our work and it's about the little things that compound into the momentum that carries us through. This episode unlocks the secret to ease and 'overnight success' through the little actions that compound into big results. To be clear, there is no such thing as overnight success. Yet much of what occupies our time and our energy are these ideas and fantasies about what is possible for us -- are they even real and do we even want them?

Can our nervous system handle the pace at which we context switch and create?

What happens when you take your business off social media?

What happens when you take your life off social media?

Listen to this episode to hear Marie's take on 4 months off of social media while building two businesses.

The beliefs we hold inform the quality of our lived experience. With this in mind, this episode invites you to investigate one of the most insidious beliefs that many of us hold -- the belief that you have to be good and that some condition [insert success, wealth, happiness, joy, good things, good results, etc.] will be fulfilled.

You do not have to work so hard to be good, to have a good life. If this seems counterintuitive, or even challenging, then this episode is for you.

In it we also discuss the key to to re-write limiting beliefs (for good), and ultimately the secret to lasting transformation.

A continuation of episode 47, this episode covers:

  • What it means to be present
  • Why we have trouble being and staying present
  • How to be present

Questions for journaling, referenced at the end are:

  • What are you paying attention to?
  • Where is the variation in your mind and your body (to what you are paying attention to)?
  • What is truly required of you, right now, according to your body and your circumstance?
  • How do you want to receive what is being presented, what you are being invited into?
  • And how do you want to give of yourself to it?

Steps outlined in the framework:

  1. Come back into & acknowledge your body
  2. Notice and acknowledge your mind (and its thoughts)
  3. Ask your body if what is pulling you is bringing you closer to the present, or further away
  4. Ground into the present with an action

Bonus: remove distractions OR embrace them as part of your present.

This episode breaks down the statement “Now is all there is” and demonstrates how this concept can take us from a mediocre or even undesired present to a deeply desired outcome + future moment. It addresses some questions like:

  • How can we trust that what is in front of us will guide us to where we want to go?
  • How can we trust that what is meant for us will not miss us, without our intervention or control?
  • How can we surrender truly to the present moment and let our future desires and outcomes go? And how is this even fruitful?
  • How can 'business as usual' truly produce organizational change or transformation, demonstrating leadership along the way?

This episode also outlines how Marie went from being a Nanny studying Philosophy to working with leadership at Microsoft, showcasing how anything is truly possible when we dedicate ourselves fully to the present moment & to what is in front of us.

The present shows us who we are, and what we are really made of. It is who we are that gets us to who we are becoming. Internal shifts lead to external outcomes. Listen to this episode to hear more.

Tune in to this episode to learn what Home Energetics is (hint: it's so much more than just Feng Shui), how it can benefit you, and what you can do to optimize your space so that you can achieve your dreams.

Together, Jacey and Marie discuss energy optimization for getting a promotion, keeping your personal chi in check, calling in an ideal romantic partnership, and so much more. If you are interested in the energy of your home or office to incrementally advance your goals, or if you are looking for some quick and easy tips to optimize your space, this is the episode for you.

Jacey Herbert is the founder of Still Jacey. In her own words,

"I am an intuitive guide and eternal spiritual student. I practice meditation, mindfulness, feng shui and a multitude of spiritual practices to achieve a sense of stillness in everyday life. My intention is to help you find your own stillness in your mind, body, home, connection to your deepest and truest self, and the universe.

I discovered Feng Shui in a moment of clarity when I realized how the space around me had been draining my energy and causing stress instead of providing comfort. I was feeling behind in my career, my relationships, and overwhelmed with the fast paced lifestyle I was living, constantly chasing “the next thing.” After I started to understand the different energy centers of the home and how they impact every aspect of my life I was able to create a home filled with love, support, and abundance. Feng Shui and energetics awareness in the home has transformed my life, I’d love to show you how it could transform yours."

The skill of asking good questions is underrated, under-recognized, wildly under appreciated, and not actually taught or demonstrated enough. The vast majority of us do not know how to ask for what we want. And, the more we want or need something, the harder it may feel to ask for it.

Meanwhile, the most successful people in this world have mastered this skill, so we're here today to shed some light on why we need to ask better questions, and what we can do about it.

You don’t earn depression & no one has more of a right to it than you do. Because depression can't be earned & it has no right. It just is. And it doesn’t have to look like whatever people think it’s supposed to look like. Depression can look like months in bed, debilitated and immobile. But, I think far more often it looks like a smile or even laughter in the presence of others.

This is hands down the most vulnerable episode of The Spiritual 9-5 to date. It's heavy. It's meaningful. It matters. And there is no point to it, other than to share my genuine experience, because I think the world needs more of that.

Disclaimer: I am not a therapist (nor am I offering any advice whatsoever) and this episode may be triggering for those who have had experience with individuals who have committed suicide. Please know that I am not here to trigger, only to share what's real for me.

What is mindfulness really? And why is it important in the office?
What does mindfulness translate to in a corporate or working environment?
And are there actual benefits that translate to ROI?

These are some of the questions that set the stage for this episode on introducing mindfulness in an in-person or virtual office, authentically. But first, we start with a story. I had the amazing pleasure of leading the Microsoft Federal Defense team to mindfully set intentions before they kicked off culture conversations.

And because we love to demystify and make accessible concepts and components of spirituality, I couldn't not let this exercise inspire me into a podcast episode. And a free resource. And a new offer for you.

When grief is present and it is ignored, or when the focus is on only what has been lost, we are incapable of receiving what is -- what is present, what is willing, what is better-than. In order to be available for what is presenting itself to us, we must mourn. And yet, grief is not linear. It is ever present and it comes in waves. There are different standards, practices and norms in business vs everyday life. But, does it have to be this way? This episode invites you into authenticity in your work, business, and across all facets of your life.

"Business is business" is not an excuse for unethical behavior or practice. It is also not a justification to work in a job that does not align with your values. In fact, businesses and corporations are not the root cause of your sickness, unhappiness, or lack of joy in this life. Trigger warning: to say that corporations are sucking the souls out of human beings is not exactly true. It IS, however, taking the responsibility out of the human hand and putting it into an entity outside of human existence. In this episode, the invitation is to take the responsibility back and regain control over your own life and existence.

When you have a good idea, quite possibly the idea, there will be a small voice inside your being that knows it. You will feel a whisper inside you that this could be big. If you lean into it, you’ll kind of know what to do. You might even get excited and start doing. But then cue all the loud voices that tell you all the reasons why it won't work, all the reasons why you aren't the one, or this isn't the right time. And while there are no guarantees, and the timing will never be quite right, it's in the small voice where you will find yourself. And it's in yourself where you will find all your dreams manifested, INCLUDING making money doing whatever you want.

View Details

When you combine who you are with your purpose, your north star, and your vision, you unlock an infinite number of possibilities for fulfilling your potential while making money for your work. The thing is, getting 100% of what you want doesn't come by doing what someone else has, or is doing. It doesn't come through strategy, process, or backend tooling. Jumping off the cliff is surrendering to the creation of your own path, THROUGH doing and living and being. In the paraphrased words of Aristotle, if you want to be a painter, paint. It's really that simple. Listen to this episode if you want some insight on how to begin, wherever you are.

View Details

Your mindset is the biggest piece to conquer in your journey to making or receiving money. Starting a business, securing a job, and/or getting your shit together takes effort - but the real effort is beneath the ice. It's bringing your brain along in the journey and finding evidence that you are safe in the unknown, that you grow & thrive in the unknown, and that are successful in the unknown. It's remembering that you are your safest risk and your biggest asset. It is possible to make money being exactly who you are and doing exactly what you want - but you have to start with yourself and invite your brain on the journey with you. That is the basis of this first part episode series: Make Money Being Who You Are.

It takes effort to be present to all the things that we juggle in our lives. It takes special effort to be present to any one of those things, once we feel we are depleted. And yet, it is when we have nothing left to give, when the magic really happens. This episode is about showing up, despite having nothing at all and the limitless capacity that we can tap into, when we do.

View Details

This episode, to quit or not quit your 9-5, is not actually an argument for either position. It's a call to follow the voice within, regardless of how that looks outside of you. It's an invitation to leave the narrative that there are only two choices in front of you, if you want to fulfill your purpose and dreams. It's permission for you to not choose one thing, but to choose all the things that bring you joy. It's permission to stop trying to follow all the rules about how or who you're supposed to be when navigating your career, starting your own business, becoming a parent, or traveling the world. It's an invitation to challenge whatever is limiting your desires by living your fullest expression.

View Details

This short episode rounds out Episodes 1-2 & brings forward some guidance in finding, knowing, and being yourself so that your purpose will shine through you with ease. When you are living your purpose, live isn't easier, but your navigation of it is. To live with confidence, you must embody your truest expression, your truest self. And to do that, you don't actually have to know fully or articulate who you are - you really just have to learn how to allow yourself to be. Listen to learn how you can practice your own authentic embodiment and bring yourself forward in the life that you are living.

View Details

If you can articulate your purpose, and use your values as the parameters for how you fulfill your purpose, then you will experience joy in everything that you do and you will vastly increase your impact on this planet. But if you don't know your values, you may struggle to find happiness without being able to articulate why you are unhappy. This episode is a crucial introduction to the importance of knowing your purpose and what you value so that you can find joy & fulfillment in all things, while maximizing your movement in this world.
