In shop talk I talk about a little bit of everything from politics to my faith. Just the opinions of an average guy from Iowa who loves this country, loves his family and friends and of course thanks God for all the above.
In the book 1984, George Orwell wrote about a dystopian future where the government had become a tyrannical overlord. The strange part is, many of the things that took place in this fictional book, are playing out in real life. In the episode, I talk about the similarities between the book and our current situation as a country. For a little extra fun, I had Chat GPT write a monolog on this topic in the voice of Ronald Reagan. I then edited it to add in some more similarities. When it comes down to preventing our government from having total control over us, two things stand in the way, our guns and our faith. Ultimately, however, the hope we have in Christ is their greatest enemy, one they would need all the tools from 1984 to stomp out. Even then, the power of Jesus will overcome. Enjoy! Once again, I was testing out Chat GPT. This time, I asked it to write a monolog in the voice of a radio great from the past, talking about the consequences of America turning away from God. As before, it did quite an incredible job. My impersonation of that great, however, wasn't nearly as good. His iconic voice wasn't easy to match! Pay close attention to the message, though, because even though it was written with artificial intelligence, I couldn't agree more with what was written. Just saying that is slightly terrifying. With Chat GPT's rise in popularity, I thought I would put it to the test. I wanted it to write a monolog on the pros and cons of AI in relation to our relationship with God in the voice of the Apostle Paul. Quite frankly, I was stunned with the results! Stay salty and be kind, my friends!

We all get angry, and sometimes we just want to hold onto that anger. However, we have to put our anger aside when we go to bed. this is especially true in marriage! it doesn't mean that we have to leave an issue unresolved, just that we need to remember that we can work it out in the morning. In my late teens and part of my early twenties, I didn't think I would ever call dad a friend. However, God had something else in store. He was able to restore our relationship to the point that not only can we work together, we are best friends! If you are struggling with a relationship, especially with a father or children, have hope. God restores the hearts between a father and his children! Stay salty and be kind, my friends!

We tend to think that the Church is a building we go to on Sunday and maybe Wednesday. The reality is that the building we go to only becomes the Church when we gather together inside! The people are the Church! Jesus didn't build His Church on an actual rock, He built it on a person, Peter! God isn't contained in a building made by human hands. He lives in us! The smoke-eater is a device that helps clean the air when we weld. It can take the smoke and fumes from welding and give us safe, clean air to breathe. Christ can do the same for us in our lives! If you take whatever situation you are in and filter it through Jesus, you can find contentment. Don't mistake contentment with complacency, however. Contentment is being satisfied with where you are yet looking forward to the future that Christ has planned for you! So it's time to change your life filter! Money 💰 is the root of all evil, or so we've been told. The reality is that it's the LOVE of money that is the root of all kinds of evils! As is usual, it comes down to what's in your heart. Money comes from God and should never be placed above Him. Stay salty and be kind, my friends!
With kindness being a FRUIT of the Spirit, it's going to take some cultivating to do. It's easy to be kind to those who are kind to you, but what about those who aren't? Yet we are called to do so anyway, even if they don't deserve it. So be kind to that waitress, to the grocery clerk, to that one person writing a check at the check-out. I always end by saying, "Stay salty and be kind." I do this because, well... Jesus told us to! Salt is no good if it no longer has the ability to flavor food or preserve. Jesus doesn't want us to lose our ability to impact the world, to lose our saltiness. We stay salty by showing love and kindness to the world while staying true to the Bible. Being kind in today's society, unfortunately, makes you different from most people. What is there to lose from being different in this way? It can be your biggest weapon when trying to impact others for Jesus. So stay salty and be kind, my friends!
Keeping up with the neighbors next door has always been a problem here in America. We see something someone else has and don't want to miss out. Pretty soon, we have lots of nice things but lots of debt to go with it. It's a house of cards waiting to be blown over in even the slightest bit of headwind. Despite all that is written in the New Testament about Jesus, it is only scratching the surface. John tells us that the world itself couldn't hold all the books if they wrote everything that Jesus did and said! While we don't have everything, we do have all that we need. After Jesus was born, there were two elderly people at the temple who recognized Him. Just imagine you have just given birth to a baby as a virgin, and then these two come up to you and say such wondrous things about your child! God allowed them to know exactly who Jesus was. With so little scripture about Jesus as a baby, the verses I've shared this week are very precious, just like the baby they are about. We are now finally to the birth of Jesus! There are still arguments as to whether He was born in a Manger or in a close by cave where sacrificial lambs were born, but ultimately, that particular detail isn't critical. The important detail is simply that He was born! He could have skipped this whole process and came as a man rather than a baby, but He didn't. He chose to come this way and can now relate with us from birth to death! All the struggles of childhood, of the teenage years, the young adult years, and even the years of admitting you are now 30. Joseph had a tough decision to make when he got the news that Mary was pregnant. He planned to divorce her in secret to try and not disgrace her publicly, which is an honorable thing to do. Most people today would have posted all kinds of things on social media about how terrible she was and more than likely thrown in some degrading names for good measure. But Joseph was a good man, a righteous man. Thankfully, he was visited in a dream by an angel who told him that he was to stay with her and help raise the child of God! It's always amazing to see a prophecy fulfilled! This prophesy from Micah that was repeated by Matthew shows us that God can use us, even if we are small! Bethlehem wasn't much to brag about, yet the salvation of the world came from this little town! It doesn't matter what your past is or how insignificant you may feel, God can still work through you! Whenever we are fighting battles for the Kingdom of God, it's important to do so in love. Sometimes, that love may be tough love. No matter who we are dealing with or what views they have, we must remember that they are also children of God, made in his image, and that he loves them. His death was for them, too! Love is certainly missing in today's society. The word "love" is thrown all over the place, but biblical love is not. Paul gave us a beautiful description of the kind of love we should have for one another and even told us that out of faith, hope, and love, the greatest is love! Often, when we hear the story of the rich young ruler, we focus on how hard it is for the rich to get into heaven. How the young man was told to give everything away and follow Jesus. Some even say that Jesus hates the rich or that he is a socialist! Sadly, they have missed the entire point. Jesus loves all of us, including the rich, and just wants to make sure our hearts belong to him! The rich young ruler saw eternal life as just another possession to obtain, something he could earn and add to his list of assets. Let's not make the same mistake! Stay salty and be kind, my friends!
We have all been given gifts and talents from God. We should always look to use them to further His purpose and His Kingdom. Even the smallest of talents can do great things for the Kingdom of God! Stay salty and be kind, my friends!
The world loves an underdog story and still uses this event today to describe insurmountable odds. David and Goliath! David truly had amazing faith throughout his life, but this moment stands out! He also had great wisdom to know that God doesn't need our strength or weapons to get things done! Stay salty and be kind my friends!
There is a theory out there that says we are living in a high-quality simulation. While I don't believe that, I do discuss what their evidence is. I believe it's more likely that the Bible is accurate and we are all creations of the one true God. The world loves this particular miracle of Jesus. They try to recreate it and even nicknamed a lizard after him for its ability to run across water! However, the lesson really comes from Peter in this story. Unlike him, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus when we go through life's difficulties. He won't let us sink! It's important as Christians not to let the word of God fall on deaf ears. It's something that has to be put into action in order to make it work, much like a playbook in football. If we don't, it's like forgetting what we look like if we aren't looking at a mirror! Today, we can carry our picture around with us to make sure that doesn't happen. In these verses, Paul not only tells us to be patient and kind, but also says we should sing and praise God. All of this was excercised with my toddler while I was off. Patience through potty training, singing and praising with music videos. As always seems to be the case, children innocently lead us straight to Jesus just by being them! "You don’t scare me, I have two daughters!" There are plenty of "reasons" to fear in this world, but the Bible tells us over and over not to be afraid! You see, he calls us by name, we belong to Him! Now that's a reason not to fear! Stay salty and be kind my friends!
As a father, I have an important role in my children's lives. In this verse, Paul explains that we shouldn't stir up anger in our children, but teach them about God. In order to do that though, we must follow the Lord ourselves! Let us be the example for our children to look up to and follow straight to Jesus!
We have all heard debates on who is the G.O.A.T. Names like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady or even Albert Einstein come to mind. However, the disciples even argued over this and thankfully, they recorded the answer Jesus gave them! So yes, Jesus himself weighed in on the G.O.A.T debate, and he pulled a child aside as his answer!
Children are truly a blessing from God! We got to welcome baby girl number two and we are so grateful for both of them! One more arrow in our quiver!
Jesus not only loves children, he tells us to have faith like their's! Children have an innocence that we certainly lose once we get older as well as a dependence to get through life. It's this dependence that Jesus wants us to take after and be dependent on him! Children are such a blessing, and according to Jesus, we should be more like them! I look forward to seeing your "child like" faith!
If we want to generate wealth, we will have to put in the work. It seems like such a simple concept, yet so many want to let their hands be idle and expect to get rich! However, when we do get to work, we need to do the right things and not cheat anyone. We are to represent Christ in all we do, including work!
Why is it that often wealthy people are very unhappy? Maybe because they don't have a relationship with the Lord. If we can have that, we are better off with very little than without Him and all we could ask for! Find contentment in Jesus and be grateful for the blessings we do have!
Honestly, this is a venting session about some of the things going on in this country. To be clear, there is no hate in this episode, but plenty of scripture and more than enough of my opinion! Common sense just isn't so common anymore and it comes as no surprise with the way God is getting pushed out. You simply can't have truth without the one who is THE truth... and that's Jesus!
You, yes you are fearfully, remarkably and wonderfully made! In today's scripture the writer praises God for the way they were made, acknowledging that it was Him who stitched them together in the womb. So remember, God Himself made you and He did a fantastic job!
Our faith I important to God, in fact, James tells us to ask for wisdom in faith. However he also says to have no doubt or none will be given! Continue to grow your faith and relationship with Jesus and over time the doubt will grow smaller and smaller. Show you can be trusted with little and look forward to being trusted with much!
Unwholesome talk is common place in today's society. This could be swearing, bullying, or even simply gossip. We are told by Paul, however, that we should only allow words that build others up come out of our mouths. That's not an easy task! Imagine if politicians took this verse seriously! Truth is we all struggle with this including myself.
James tells us to embrace our trials and understand that they will help us mature in our faith. That's certainly easier said than done, however he also tells us that God is not the one tempting us. God doesn't just let hard times crush us, He actively works on building us up!
When Christ died, He tore the veil that separated God from His people. The great news is that His people now includes all of us! Now we all can have that personal relationship with Him and ultimately spend eternity in His presence!
We put a lot of faith in politicians who tend to be corrupt and out for themselves on both sides of the aisle. We would be so much better off to take that faith and put it where it belongs, in Jesus. Romans tells us He has a plan and to trust that it's for our own benefit. Just keep doing the next right thing as Christians and be the light in the dark so that others may be able to learn the truth. "If we are not governed by God, then we will be ruled by tyrants."- William Penn
This is a great verse to give us encouragement! However it's easy to ask why bad things still happen to good people? I give an answer I heard that I think is fantastic. Here's an example of mine following in line with the one I heard; I asked God for me to understand the love He has for me and He gave me children.
As Christians we can be thankful that we don't have to make ourselves worthy of Christ before we come to him. We can come as we are and be made new! You could maybe even say come as you "were" in anticipation of the change that takes place in Christ!
No matter what our circumstances are in life, we should always work as though we are working for the Lord. Yes, even when it seems you can do nothing right or when you can do nothing wrong! If you work knowing he provides you with the skills as well as the task to accomplish, you can find joy in your heart while completing your work day!
On election day it's important to remember how blessed we are in this country to have the opportunity to vote for who represents us and give them authority to rule. More importantly, that God ultimately gives governing authority and the that we should respect it. Hopefully the winners today will in turn respect God's true authority and give him the glory!
This Psalm talks about struggling and not understanding why, but turns it around in verse 5 to be thankful and trusting in the Lord. Not always an easy thing to do!
Life still has plenty of struggles when you are a Christian. It's good to know we can put on the full armor of God when we take our stand against the schemes and traps of the devil!
Sometimes it can be difficult knowing how to pray. These verses are the example of how Jesus himself says we should pray! Can't go wrong following his example!
A new daily verse and prayer to help us draw closer to God. On day 1, we are starting with probably the most well know verse in the Bible, John 3:16.
We often as a church take part in Communion and sometimes we just treat it as another part of the service. Let's take a look at it, the different times it's mentioned and never forget the sacrifice that it represents!
Jesus preformed countless miracles while he was here on earth. However, these miracles weren't only accompanied by his powerful words. They also involved the faith of the people who received them. In fact, in Matthew and Mark, it mentions how Jesus was amazed at their lack faith and didn't or couldn't do many miracles there. Let's try to amaze Jesus with the amount of faith we have and not our lack of faith!
There's been plenty of powerful words spoken in the past from Lincoln to Martin Luther King Jr, but none as powerful as the words of Jesus. With his words, he healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, cast out demons and raised the dead. In this podcast, I talk about the relationship between the Word of God and the miracles of Jesus.
Sometimes the parable of the Vinyard and how God's grace works goes over the heads of kids, as well as us. It's hard to wrap your head around if you look at it from a fairness point of view. In this episode I relate this parable to the game of tag and simplify it a little. This one is short and sweet!

Well the short answer is no, of course not. Make America Great Again should be the goal of every American. America is great for so many reasons including that it's foundations were laid on the Bible which help to set up a system of government like nothing else in the world. While we have our dark moments in our history, we also had and still have the ability to fix those problems. Even in our bad times, we are the greatest country on earth! So let's discuss what Making America Great Again is really all about!
We've all heard the phrase "never forget" or "never again" but do we ever actually follow through? Maybe if we would have remembered and listened to Jesus, we wouldn't have had all the other tragedies to never forget.
Time is such a huge part of our daily lives, yet we never think about it being created by God. This episode takes a quick dive into this idea of time as well as a few other random thoughts.
We know that we need to have Jesus in our hearts, but what does that really mean? I take a stab at trying to explain it in this episode using the Bible, and the phrase "I love you, but right now I don't like you."
On this episode I hit three different subjects in a sort of rapid fire way. I begin with a quick overview of the Roe decision, talk about the 3/5 compromise and finish with a quick lesson involving a camper, some rot, lots of repairs and God. 2 Timothy 2:23â€-‬26 (NIV) tells us : "Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will. " When it comes to the abortion debate, I don't think either side takes this to heart. Instead we get fired up and some even resort to violence. A subject that should be a moral debate has been hijacked by politics and as is usual, it is used as a wedge issue in an attempt to win elections. In the end, we all lose.
Often we think that the more we learn in science, the less we need God. That God is there to simply fill in the gaps that science can't explain. The truth is, the more we learn, the more science backs the existence of the God we know and love as Christians!
Jesus told us in Matthew 18 that we would be better to tie a Millstone around our neck and drown in the sea than to cause someone to stumble in sin. He says this after talking about having faith like a child. I think there are some people who should be on the lookout for a Millstone. Especially with some of the things being pushed on our children.
Despite having the ability to completely understand us, God was willing to come to earth and get a different perspective of his creation. He could have continued to have the Creator's perspective, but instead he chose to send Jesus and get the perspective from his creations point of view. By doing this, we know without a doubt that he understands us and our struggles in a way he never was required to. So take joy in knowing we have a God we can truly relate to and trust!
We see a lot of lies coming from our political parties in Washington now a days. The more I see this, the more I realize that the battles we face are more spiritual than most would like to admit. We want to think that if we just find the right person to lead us everything would be OK. The truth is, we can't put our faith in men. I'll put my faith in Jesus, how about you?
It sounds like a crazy script to a movie but, the Great Reset is a global plan that will drastically change the world. I talk about some of the basics and also how God will still be able to use the evils of it for something good for those who love him.
Many people today talk about their truth or claim the place they get their information has the truth. The reality is that there is only one place where you can find absolute truth, and that is in God's word! Welcome to 2022!
The Bible has a story that is well-known to even those who don't believe. That story is the story of the prodigal son. This is that story, but the characters are me and my dad. It's a feel good episode to end the year with!

It seems that everything is related to covid these days when you go to the doctor. People will die from being diagnosed incorrectly, if they get diagnosed at all. Paul wrote letters to the early churches to encourage, to correct, and to warn them on certain things taught. What would he write to our churches today? Some would receive praise while others would most certainly be warned and corrected for unbiblical teachings. The world is dark right now, let's be the light in that darkness by standing on the truth that is Christ!

We hear over and over to just follow the science, but what does that even mean anymore? Why do we ignore some science while promoting other science? Science is science, or at least it should be. I have an interesting take on why we are separating from true science and it has to do with God.
In this episode I discuss the concept of a national divorce. Talk about this has become more and more prevalent as the divide between our two political parties continues to grow. The problem is that the solution isn't in our political realm. There is only one man who can truly unify us and save the country, the entire world for that matter, and he's no politician. He truly loves everyone so much that he died on a cross for us all!
