Father-in-law to Pastor Galen Call, Rev. Harmon Eggleston shares a message in the early days of Grace Church Roseville.
Rev. Harmon Eggleston passed away in 2001. Included are some notes from his obituary.
Rev. Harmon Eggleston, beloved pastoral minister
Rev. Harmon B. Eggleston of Taylor Mill spent his last 12 years as a minister in pastoral care, visiting rest homes, hospitals and hospices.
About 18 months ago, Rev. Eggleston was moved to an Erlanger nursing home due to the effects of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Though he often couldn't recognize them, parishioners kept coming to see him - repaying the visits he had paid on them, their parents or grandparents.
"My father was such a people person. He loved visiting with people and talking with them, providing encouragement to them, " said his daughter, Marilynn Hall of Taylor Mill. "The sad part was when he lost the ability to communicate with people, about six months ago, because that was what he loved to do. But people kept coming to visit him because he had been so faithful visiting them. People just loved him."
Rev. Eggleston died Monday at Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger. He was 89.
"He had a real heart for people, " said Rev. Charles Wagner, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington, where Rev. Eggleston spent his retirement as an assistant pastor. "He was a real caring person, and people loved him. He was a fine speaker and a student of the Word, but he was ideally suited for pastoral care."
Rev. Eggleston was ordained as a minister in 1944 at Sand Run Baptist Church in Boone County, then served at five churches, including three in Indiana. He retired in 1981 from Highland Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Thomas after 42 years as a pastor there, then served as an assistant pastor at Calvary Baptist until 1993.
He also served on the board of trustees for Piedmont Bible College, in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Kentucky Mountain Mission in Beattyville.
Rev. Eggleston is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Eggleston, of Taylor Mill; two daughters, Ms. Hall and Jeannette Call, - one named Hall and one named Call - of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 14 grandchildren.
This sermon given the week after the L.A. Riots in 1992. The audio at the beginning is pretty bad, so the first minute or so was scrubbed during transfer. Hence, the beginning seems a bit abrupt.
