Sophie came to the Calm and Confident Mama hypnobirthing course after two months of bed rest, having consumed birth horror story after horror story on her phone. She was terrified. She had a firm plan for an epidural. She is based in Japan, a country where hypnobirthing is virtually unknown and where a calm, physiological birth is not the default.
In only six weeks, everything changed.
In this episode, Krish tells Sophie's story — with Sophie's own voice woven throughout — from where she started to what her birth actually looked like. Including the moment she told her partner she needed the epidural. What he said back. And what the midwife wrote in her notes afterwards.

If you're planning a caesarean birth, or if there's a chance you may end up having one, you might have assumed hypnobirthing isn't for you.
This episode is here to change that.
Krish (prenatal yoga teacher, hypnobirthing instructor, and mum of four including twins) explains exactly how hypnobirthing applies to caesarean births planned or unplanned — and why the principles of calm, informed preparation matter just as much in theatre as anywhere else.
She also shares three real stories from women in her courses: an emergency caesarean under general anaesthetic, a planned caesarean after a shoulder dystocia risk, and a twin pregnancy navigating the high-risk label — and what hypnobirthing gave each of them.

If the word "hypnobirthing" makes you, or your partner, want to scroll straight past, this episode is for you.
In this episode, Krish (prenatal yoga teacher, hypnobirthing instructor, and mum of four, including twins) shares why she was sceptical about hypnobirthing before her first pregnancy, what finally changed her mind, and what the method actually is, backed by science, not mysticism.
She also shares the story of one student: an engineer, an atheist, and the most sceptical person to ever walk into one of her courses. His feedback at the end? "Why isn't everyone doing this?" and one request: please change the name.

Have you suddenly felt more flexible during pregnancy? Can you finally touch your toes or sink deeper into stretches than ever before?
That's not real flexibility. That's relaxin.
Relaxin is a pregnancy hormone that softens and loosens your ligaments throughout your entire body, not just your pelvis. And while it's essential for birth, it can also put you at risk for joint injuries if you're not careful.
In this episode, I explain what relaxin actually is, how it affects your body during pregnancy and postpartum, and why your goal during pregnancy yoga should be stability, not flexibility.

If you're active during pregnancy, whether that's CrossFit, yoga, running, or just getting out of bed in the morning, you need to know about doming.
One of my students told me she was getting out of bed and her belly was making a weird shape. Like a dome or cone sticking up down the middle.
She asked me: "Is this normal?" No. It's not.
And here's why it matters: That dome is your body telling you the movement you're doing creates too much pressure for your core to handle right now.
And if you keep doing movements that cause this throughout your pregnancy, you're making your abdominal separation wider. Which means your postpartum recovery will be harder and longer.
But here's the good news: It's completely fixable.
You just need to know what to look for and how to modify.
In this week's podcast episode, I break down:
"I just want to feel like myself again." If you've said these words after having a baby, this episode is for you.
Today's guest is Bekah Kraakman, a personal stylist and confidence coach with a psychology degree from Stanford University.
Bekah started her company as a postnatal mom herself, which is why she has such a deep understanding of what new mothers go through.
When my twins turned two, I visited Bekah for a colour consultation. But what started as finding my best colours turned into something much deeper, uncovering fears and insecurities I'd been carrying from postpartum that were showing up in what I wore and how I wore it.
This conversation isn't about fashion. It's about confidence, identity, and feeling like yourself again.
In This Episode, You'll Learn:
✨ Why postpartum moms feel like they don't recognize themselves
🧠 The psychology behind "look good, feel good"
👗 Why you should buy clothes that fit your body NOW, not later
💡 How getting dressed is one thing you CAN control in motherhood
🕐 Bekah's five-minute morning routine to feel confident all day
🤱 Why living in "house clothes" keeps you stuck in postpartum mode
💪 How to overcome mom guilt about focusing on yourself
🎨 What colour analysis revealed about my postpartum insecurities
🌟 Why taking care of your appearance isn't superficial, it's essential
Key Takeaway: "Style isn't superficial. It's deeply tied to identity, self-perception, and confidence." You don't need to dress up for anyone else. Dress up for YOU. Five minutes in the morning to put on something you love can change your entire day.
About Bekah Kraakman: Bekah is a personal stylist and confidence coach who combines her psychology background with her passion for helping women feel confident. She specializes in working with mums to help them rediscover their style and sense of self after having children.

Do you feel like you've lost your sense of self since becoming a mother? This is your opportunity to find it again. Join host Krish and special guest Tessa, a professional coach for mothers, for a real-time guided session designed to help you navigate your identity shift.
In this workshop, you will be guided through four powerful journaling prompts that explore the concept of Matrescence (the adolescence of motherhood), help you reconnect with your core values, and empower you to commit to one small, gentle action to feel more like yourself again. Don't just listen, participate, and give yourself the gift of guided self-reflection.
In this workshop, you will:
As a mother, do you feel guilty for resting? Do you use every quiet moment to be productive instead of still? You're not alone. In this episode, host Krish is joined by holistic women's health specialist Tess to discuss why modern motherhood keeps us in a state of constant high alert and how we can reclaim our right to rest.
Discover the difference between the "activation" and "rest and repair" modes of your nervous system and why being stuck in "go" mode can affect your hormones, immunity, and mental health. Tess introduces the powerful practice of Restorative Yoga, a form of conscious, supported rest, and guides you through three simple postures you can do at home to find calm in the chaos. This is your permission slip to slow down.

"I feel like if I only listen to positive birth stories, it's setting me up for failure. At least with negative ones, I can prepare for what might go wrong."
Sound familiar? This question came up in my prenatal yoga class recently. It sounds logical, but that's not how your brain works. And it's definitely not how birth works.
In this episode, I'm explaining why people say to only listen to positive birth stories, and whether it will really set you up for failure.
In This Episode, You'll Learn:
🧠 How your subconscious mind processes birth stories
😰 What fear does to your body during labour
✨ How positive birth stories program your brain and body for success
🚫 The nocebo effect: why expecting pain creates more pain
📚 The difference between being informed and being traumatized
🤰 My personal experience: two completely different births and what made the difference
💡 Why practicing relaxation is a skill you have to learn (and how simple it actually is)

How Do I Stay in My Baby Bubble With Everything Going On in the World?
If you're pregnant or postpartum and struggling to protect your baby bubble while the world feels heavy, this episode is for you.
In last week's prenatal yoga class, one of my students asked a question that resonated with everyone in the room: "How do I stay in my baby bubble with everything that's going on in the world?"
This honest, compassionate episode explores that very question, and why you have permission to protect your peace right now.

One afternoon in October, my body stopped working. I couldn't move my legs. I couldn't stand.
Three months later, I'm sharing what I've learned about chronic cortisol elevation, why pregnant and postpartum mothers are particularly vulnerable, and what's actually helping me recover - not generic stress advice, but specific practices from my training as a prenatal yoga teacher and hypnobirthing instructor.
My physical therapist and my therapist - in different countries, not knowing each other - both gave me the exact same diagnosis. What followed were three months of professional support, implementing changes, and truly understanding how our bodies work when stress becomes chronic.

I'm still rebuilding. I'm not fully recovered. But I've learned enough to share what's genuinely helping.

If you're pregnant, recently given birth, or raising small children, the traditional "New Year, New You" narrative doesn't fit your life right now.
In this episode, I'm talking about why goal-setting looks different during this phase of life, where the pressure actually comes from, and what I'm doing differently this year.
I share real stories from my holidays with four kids (including twin toddlers who nap at 6pm and destroy Christmas trees), why I finally rested without apologising, and how I'm approaching 2026 with one word instead of a list of goals.

In this episode, I explore the rise of Pilates and ask: Is it replacing yoga? And if so, what does that mean for women navigating pregnancy, birth, and motherhood?
I share my personal experience with both Pilates and yoga (I go to Pilates once a week and used to teach Yogalates!), acknowledge the huge overlap between the two practices, and explain why yoga's deeper dimensions (breathwork, philosophy, mudras, and mantras) are exactly what pregnant and postnatal women need during one of the biggest transitions of their lives.
IN THIS EPISODE:
Why Pilates is having a moment (and why that's okay)
Where Pilates and yoga actually overlap (spoiler: a lot)
The key difference: yoga includes everything Pilates does, plus another dimension
How sitting in silence together creates a different kind of connection
Living yoga vs. performing yoga, and why it matters

In this episode of the Yoga Bellies and Babies Podcast, host Krishna Hassomal opens up about her personal journey with hypnobirthing, sharing the five biggest mistakes she made during her first birth and how she overcame them in subsequent pregnancies.
Aimed at expectant and new mothers, as well as anyone interested in mindful birth preparation, Krishna discusses the realities of hypnobirthing beyond the common myths. She reflects on her own experiences, from a challenging hospital induction to a calm home birth, highlighting the importance of thorough preparation, flexibility, and involving birth partners in the process.
Krishna emphasizes that hypnobirthing is not just about reading a book or listening to tracks once, but about consistent practice, mental and emotional readiness, and open communication with both partners and medical staff. She also addresses the need to prepare for different birth scenarios, not just the ideal plan, and the value of “cheesy” mental preparation like affirmations and positive visualizations.
Listeners will come away with practical strategies for effective hypnobirthing, including daily practice, balancing physical and mental preparation, and reprogramming subconscious beliefs about birth. Krishna also invites listeners to a free workshop, “Calm, Confident, and Ready,” for deeper learning and support.

Whether you're preparing for your first baby or anticipating life with twins, breastfeeding can feel overwhelming, especially when questions and doubts start to creep in.
When I was pregnant with my twins, I faced similar questions, even though I’d breastfed my older two children.
Thankfully, I discovered Kathryn Stagg through my IG network and a twin support group. After attending one of her free online talks and reading her book, I knew she was the real deal. Now, I’m thrilled to have her as our guest!
Kathryn Stagg is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and OCN Level 3 Holistic Sleep Coach with over 17 years of experience supporting families with feeding, sleep, and understanding normal baby behaviour. After breastfeeding her own twins with wonderful support, Kathryn dedicated herself to helping other families and even led the Multiple Birth Breastfeeding Project in Harrow. Honoured with the ABM’s Pam’s Prize in 2017, she’s a well-respected advocate for breastfeeding support.

This week’s episode is an open and honest with a fellow prenatal & postnatal yoga and hypnobirthing instructor, and a Mama, Daria. Whether you are pregnant or have already given birth, this episode is for you!
Daria opens up about her approach to teaching Yoga and her personal experiences during pregnancy and postpartum. We dive deep into her journey with prolapse and how it shaped her postpartum and initial experiences of motherhood, physically as well as emotionally, and continues to do so.
Last month, Daria shook my belief system when she mentioned that if she were to give birth again, she would opt for an elective c-section. You may not expect a yoga and hypnobirthing teacher, who had a natural birth the first time around, to say this, so listen in to find out why.
Daria is an excellent pregnancy & postnatal yoga teacher (I know because I’ve been to her classes) specialising in core and pelvic floor health. She’s also a hypnobirthing instructor and a Thai Massage therapist.
She is incredibly knowledgeable and well informed in so many topics from anatomy, pelvic floor, prolapse, physiotherapy, hypnobirthing and of course pre and postnatal care.
Her passion lies in empowering women to understand their bodies through movement and knowledge to be the strongest version of themselves in pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.
If you live in Valencia or can get there, and want to experience some Yoga or Hypnobirthing with Daria, email her at daria@yogawithdaria.co.uk or connect with Daria on Instagram: www.instagram.com/yogawithdaria/
They say it takes a village to raise a child. In one of my Facebook support groups, someone shared some research that pointed that it takes an average of 4 adults to raise and nurture 1 child.
4 adults per child! That’s why I’m not surprised that now, as a mother of four, I’m experiencing firsthand the curiosity from others about how I manage it all.
In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain to share how I manage "it". Behind the smiling family photos, cute reels, cuddles, walks, and yoga, there’s a tremendous amount of help.
Yes, I am exhausted. Some days, my legs feel like jelly, and my sugar intake has tripled to keep me going. But, I’m here standing, and my experience of motherhood is gradually transitioning from survival mode to thriving mode. The mental load is tremendous, especially with a partner who works full-time and travels often. It’s crucial to dispel the myth of mothers doing it all alone, and I’m sharing with you my village hoping you can build one yourself too.
This episode is dedicated to every parent out there doing the work of multiple adults, whether you’re a single parent or part of a couple.
Listen to the full episode to hear more about how embracing help has enabled me to thrive as a mother of four.
This week we discuss safety during childbirth with Gina Mundy, an attorney specializing in childbirth cases.
For over 20 years, Gina’s focus has been investigating and analyzing mistakes that arise during labour and delivery. She has spent countless hours meticulously scrutinizing childbirth cases, conducting interviews with delivery teams, and thoroughly examining medical records to gain an in-depth understanding of every decision made during labour and delivery. Throughout her career Gina has travelled the United States of America, engaging with healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, and midwives to explore all aspects of labour and delivery. These interactions have provided her with invaluable insights, enabling her to appreciate the diverse perspectives prevalent in different regions of the country.
In June 2023, Gina's book "A Parent's Guide to a Safer Childbirth" was published. The book helps parents to avoid the mistakes during childbirth and have a healthy baby.
Instead of getting involved after a mistake was made, Gina is getting involved before childbirth to help prevent the mistakes.

Spoiler alert: no, I’m not going to be how to latch your baby or give them a bottle whilst you’re in a Warrior 2 position!

Birth stories are powerful.
I’m refraining from labelling them as positive or negative, as it comes down to how the birthing person feels. What for one person might sounds traumatic, for the other might be beautiful and empowering.
I will keep the word powerful, because every single birth story is indeed powerful. Regardless of the type of birth. It’s a birth!
The reason they are powerful is because we don’t see births in our daily lives, apart from TV and media which is mostly sensationalised. We tend see someone go off to hospital, come back home with a baby, leaving everything in between up to the imagination!
Birth stories like in today´s episode, have the ability to give another pregnant women the confidence and belief that she can do it too.
Today's episode is indeed a birth story, by Siri Pisters.
Siri is here to share the story of the birth of her baby boy. In this story Siri takes us through her pregnancy, from a planned homebirth to a hospital induction.
This conversation is a beautiful example of how things don’t always go as we plan, how and when decisions have to be made (and unmade!), and the importance of finding that balance between keeping and letting go of control.
Thank you Siri for sharing your story, and being open and honest about the nice and not so nice moments you went through.

Trigger warning This episode contains information about a miscarriage.Welcome to this episode with the wonderful Tove Palmgren, a Yoga teacher of over 34 years and a mum of 4.Tove is one of those women who gave birth to all her children without pain-relief. This episode is not about judging women who use pain relief or who don’t, the point is, she did it back when there was no such thing as prenatal yoga, birth preparation courses, hypnobirthing, etc. There were no specific tools given to her, and she’s here to tell us how she used her intuition and figured it out.Tove tells us about her parallel journeys of yoga, work and motherhood (whilst being a single mum for many years), and how these various paths have evolved throughout the years. She tells us how about a miscarriage she had, and how she reconciled it emotionally. We talk about how to deal with this constantly changing body, from menstruation to pregnancy, postpartum and menopause, and how to sustain a yoga (or self-care!) practice with whilst we’re raising children and as we grow older.Thank you Tove for being to open and vulnerable to sharing this wisdom with us!
Yoga is often associated with stretching. It’s the classic ‘’Yoga is about being able to touch your toes’’.
Many of us often start going to yoga classes for the physical benefits, only later to find there is so much more.
10-20 years ago, we would say things like ‘’Yes I do yoga, but I don’t go for the spiritual stuff like the ooomms and stuff, I go to move and sweat’’. And let’s face it, we all know getting into headstand is not the goal, but it pretty cool if we could right?!
But, things are changing in the Yoga world.
One of the reasons it’s changing is thanks to teachers like Komal Dadlani, who are there to remind us Yoga is not a physical practice. In fact, the physical asana practice is only 1 small part of Yoga. Komal is one of those teachers, who skilfully includes and introduces the spiritual teachings of Yoga in her classes.
The best part? She explains very ancient spiritual teachings in a very simple and relatable language. I felt that she was a translator, so we could understand these traditional old texts and use them in our daily lives.
In this episode we talk about:
Komal explains these deep and ancient concepts in such simple and approachable, so we can understand and include them in our daily lives.

Last summer, I found myself asking my mum, "Is this peri-menopause?". I was having lots of hot flushes and sweating. Her response was, "No, you’ve forgotten what Spanish summers are like and you're breastfeeding!"She might have been right. Who knows? This summer I’m pregnant, and my body is going through something else! However, I’d rather be prepared for peri-menopause and learn how to manage this new phase of myself whenever it decides to come!I also realised that I know NOTHING about it. The first time I heard about Peri-menopause was on TV. I was watching the Netflix show, ‘’Working Mums’’ where the main character comes home from the doctors and says, in shock, that she has ‘’peri-f*ing-menopause’’!In today’s episode we’re on a slightly different path, and shifting our focus from pregnancy and postpartum to peri-menopause and menopause.Especially for this, we have Sally Parkes, an expert in woman’s health yoga and also a Yoga teacher trainer. Sally has expanded her prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher trainings to also include a Yoga for Menopause Teacher Training. As an added perspective, Sally is going through peri-menopause herself, giving us a firsthand insight into what it’s really like. In this episode we delve into: * Various aspects of peri-menopause and menopause, including hormonal changes taking place. * Sally’s personal experience as she’s entering Peri-menopause. From her physical and emotional symptoms to how it impacts her work and her life as a single mum raising two daughters. * Comparisons and relationships between peri-menopause and pregnancy and postpartum. * Hormonal changes during peri-menopause, how they impact how we perform different exercises and what Yoga for Menopause looks like. * Sally’s take on Hormone Replacement Therapy and other products which are promoted by media. * How to handle the often negative emotions arising from our changing bodies and the outside world's perceptions during this phase of life.
This episode was truly enlightening! Sally courageously opens up about the reality on Peri-menopause - physically, emotionally, hormonally and even from society’s perspective! After becoming a mother. I found myself at a loss when faced with the typical ‘’So, what do you do?’’. Yes I was still ‘’doing’’ my professional job, but I was also doing a lot more!I had to re-evaluate what this meant for my purpose and identity.Fast forward 5 years and much soul-searching and therapy, I now run an online yoga business and am a podcaster. To get started on this new journey, I joined a business coaching programme led by Susanne Rieker.Initially, I expected to learn all about the online world, sales, marketing, and how to turn my hobby, and part-time side hustle, Yoga, into a profitable and scalable business. To my surprise, this business programme also included monthly Mindset Coaching sessions with a life-coach, Lisa Garber.I questioned the purpose of these sessions. I recently completed the KGH Hypnobirthing Teacher Trainer Course.
I choose the KGH method because back in 2018, someone lent me the KGH Hypnobirthing book whilst I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I read it from cover to cover, loved everything about it and were convinced we were ready for a magical ‘’hypnobirth’’.
For many reasons, the birth was not at all as expected! Realising there was more to learn than just reading the book, the second time around, we decided to take the actual KGH course!
Through this online course we were now equipped with the tools and knowledge to have an incredible home birth, one you can listen to (linked in the show notes).
We realised there is a common misconception around hypnobirthing, one that we made the first time around. We assumed that it merely involved birth preparation, but we discovered it’s so much more than that.
In the intro to this episode, I share with you a real life example of why!
To delve deeper into the non-mystical world of Hypnobirthing and its misunderstood aspects we are joined by the wonderful and knowledgeable Nancy Keen.
Nancy Keen is a mum of 3, a hypnobirthing teacher of 17 years. She is a KGH Teacher trainer and founder of The Birth Right Academy. She not only empowers parents to have the best birth for them, but also mentors hypnobirthing teachers, emphasizing her motto ‘’knowledge is power’’.
In this episode with Nancy tells us all about:

Pregnancy is not an illness and pregnant people are not patients. We are normal people, who happen to be carrying and growing another human being inside of us.
And yes, it’s not easy! The physical demands on the body are significant. But in a normal, healthy pregnancy, one can pretty much carry on doing what one was doing before being pregnant.
My brain knows this, yet when I see videos of pregnant people lifting weights, or running, or doing cross-fit, a part of me always goes, oh, is that safe?
I had to question myself and ask if my reaction was a result social conditioning? Doctors advise pregnant people to go swimming, walking and do yoga, but strength training is definitely not in the prenatal handbook!
I am only now, at age 38 starting to do light strength training myself. I hope to continue throughout my pregnancy. I’m combining it with Yoga and the results are really positive.
Naturally, I was curious and sought out an expert in the field to answer all my questions!
Please enjoy this conversation with Juliann Balley, a mom of three, based in North Texas, USA. Juliann is a Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Coach, CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, and works with the Pregnancy & Postpartum Athleticism Brand with Brianna Battles. She has a passion for all things motherhood, birth, fitness and healthy living, which is really obvious from this conversation and her insightful posts on social media.

‘’I was falling asleep, sitting up in my bathtub in the middle of labour!’’
How did I get to this blissful state during labour? How was I drug free and falling asleep in between rushes?
During my first pregnancy, we attempted a home birth. We read a hypnobirthing book, hired an inflatable bathtub and thought we were all set.
It didn’t work the way I planned. For many different reasons, and one induction, episiotomy and ventouse later, my baby girl was born at 42 weeks and 6 days.
Aside from the beautiful high I got from the 2 hours I was drugged up with morphine, the birth and the recovery were pretty intense and traumatic.
I realised that my approach towards hypnobirthing and the birth was totally wrong. Please note that by wrong, I mean wrong for me and for what I had envisioned!
I still wouldn’t change my first birth experience for anything, but the second time around, I was ready to do it differently.
Listen on to find out about hypnobirthing, my home birth experience, and some essential tips that I’d recommend for ANY type of birth.

Are you curious about healing? As a scientist and a yogi, I definitely am!
Since becoming a mother, the importance of healing has gone past my own needs but also to family´s and my children’s too.
This week’s guest, is indeed a professional healer, Sonal Karamchandani (even though she will correct me to say that everyone is a healer!).
Sonal Karamchandani is an alternative spiritual healer and a life coach who helps people heal the mind, body and soul.
Sonal has personally gone through her fair share of traumas as a child and an adult, and after fumbling onto a ‘whole new world’ of healing methods she has healed herself, and continues to do so on a daily basis.
Like she says, when something as magical as that transpires, one can’t keep it contained only to themselves but has share it with those who would like to experience the same transformation as well.
Working with Sonal is to search of the question of who am I, break the shackles and limitations of all belief systems and embark on a soul purpose journey. Sonal believes that each one of us is born for a higher purpose and healing our soul is the foundation!
Sonal is also a mother of two. In this conversation she shares a lot about her personal and clients experiences related to healing. We learn her traumas and healing from all the way back when she was in her mother´s womb, to her own pregnancies, and to date with matters related to her now adult children.
We cover everything from what healing actually is, how one does it to deeper topics and healing techniques such as rebirthing, womb memories, EFT and matrix imprinting, The Journey and NLP.
Sonal explains why many of our traumas are related to our childhood, and gives us examples of how pre-conditioning at that young age instils limiting beliefs and stops us from living our authentic life.
We talk about the pressure us mothers and parents have, and how to avoid imparting these future traumas on our children, i.e. another form of mom guilt!
This is a really varied and interesting conversation. I invite to listen with an open mind, and if you want to connect with Sonal or myself, get in touch!

I’m tired. I didn’t sleep well.
These are the two most common answers I hear from my students when I ask them how they are. They’ve been my top answers too, especially in the recent years.
Why are we always tired? And, most importantly what can we do about it?
To answer my many questions on sleep we have this week’s guest, Simone van der Heide.
Simone is a health coach, specialised in sleep. She is based in Spain where she teaches meditation and helps people improve their health by sleeping better. Simone believes that sleep affects all aspects of life and all aspects of life have their influence on sleep.
In honour of International Woman’s Day this week, we focus on sleep for women!
Simon tells us about her recent IG post on why women and men have such different sleeping patterns!
Some of the things we talk about:
Whether it’s a baby, a puppy or your thoughts keeping you up at night, this episode is for you!

Be authentic. Find your purpose. Prioritise personal growth.
The message is clear, keep improving yourself. How do you do this, AND be content with where you are, at the same time?
I invited Jana Puisa, to come in and firstly, explain these fancy terms, which are buzz words thrown around a lot, and secondly to tell us why they’re important and how to use them in daily life.
Jana Puisa is a certified life coach, meditation teacher and people professional. She has been coaching since 2014, and has over 10 years’ experience working in leadership, training and coaching roles. She believes that we have all the answers inside of us, but often we need a little help to learn how to start listening and paying attention to ourselves.
I love her approach, because it’s all about simplicity and slowing down.
She gives us a way to be everything you want to be, and do everything you want to do, without burning yourself out in the process.
In this episode, Jana shares her point of view on authenticity, what it means and how to put it into practice.
She gives her take on energy level (and time!) management.
Jana kindly explains how we’ve ended up over-complicating life, becoming too busy and consequently always draining or leaking our energy. She goes into the physical, mental and emotional effects this has on us. Jana offers tips and methods we can use to find our way out of these patterns.
As a Meditation teacher, Jana talks to us about different types of meditation and how it differs to Mindfulness.
At the time of recording, Jana was 7 months pregnant. She was recently diagnosed with a condition during her pregnancy, which she generously opens up about, hoping that anyone else in the same position can find comfort and support.
Finally, we talk about her 50 day challenge! Jana started a 50 days of being selfish challenge on her last birthing. Listen in to find out all about it, and how she’s inspired me to do the same! Stay posted, I’ll be starting in March and you’re welcome to join me!
Learn more about Jana:
Jana works with women who are balancing full time jobs with building personal businesses and developing their passion projects. She helps clients find the time to create space in their life, to allow them to focus and identify next steps that will ultimately lead to positive change:

‘’Congratulations on your baby! When are you going back to work?’’ That’s usually one of the first questions you get as soon as you have a baby.
Motherhood and work. Because being a mother (or father) isn’t work right?
Sarcasm aside, it’s a serious and important question. Although, often not delivered at the appropriate time or by the appropriate person!
We need to remember there are opinions on everything. On the one hand, you should be at home with your baby. Enjoy your motherhood and this special time.
On the other, you should also be a successful, financially independent woman and follow your dreams.
Today were talking about professional dreams. Dreams that can exist alongside motherhood.
And for that, we have Nina Eggens. A woman who has so many careers that I’ve lost count. A woman who decided it was time to become an entrepreneur and business woman when she was pregnant.
On Nina’s first day of maternity leave she registered as self-employed and opened a shop with an 8-month old baby on her hip.
Listen in to find out all about Nina’s story and her many, many different talents and creative roles.
We go personal and talk about:
Finally Nina shared some advice from her area of expertise, business coaching, for any pregnant person or new mother who is contemplating setting up a business or starting a new professional venture whilst also getting ready to welcome a baby in her arms.
Nina is an inspiration. As a mother and entrepreneur. She’s an example of going for what you want, and that thing you want, doesn’t have to be just one thing!
She’s an example of not letting mom-guilt get the best of you or be the reason you stop making bold decisions in life. She shows that by doing those things, it makes you a grow as a human being, and in turn also makes you a better mother.

When did we suddenly have to become perfect at everything?
The perfect mother, partner, colleague, business owner? When did this happen, and how do we allow ourselves permission, to not be perfect and just be good enough. And, can we actually be ok with that?
To answer all these questions is this week’s guest, Ali Pember.
Ali is a Psychotherapist and Coach specialising in Perinatal Mental Health and Matrescence (the transition to motherhood). She works mainly with mothers, encouraging them to trust their own judgement in raising their children, with a strong emphasis on 'good enough' parenting.
Ali brings tools and perspectives from her background in Cognitive Psychology and Mindful Self Compassion to this work. She also situates individual distress within a social context: dismantling the guilt, shame, stress, and anxiety that is often a product of the 'Perfect Mother Myth' and other forms of social conditioning. Her main aims are to help you to realise that you are not alone, to help you make sense of your identity as a mother, and to help you focus on what really matters for your family, rather than what you think you 'should' be doing.
Listen in to find out the difference between Matrescence and Motherhood, explanations as to how and why we’ve found ourselves in the impossible situation of having to be perfect in every aspect of our lives.
Most importantly, Ali holds our hand and shows the way to let go of the need to be the perfect mother, without feeling guilt or shame.

Birth is powerful.
A baby is born, and a woman is re-born.
Ask a mother at any age the story of the birth of her children, and she’ll tell you all about it.
It’s imprinted in our memory, in our bodies.
The Birth Story, is even more powerful because it has a knock on effect on other women.
It gives pregnant women faith and hope. Birth stories helped me through both pregnancies. I read Ina May Gaskin's book so many times, to find the courage to do what so many women before me had done.
Before reading birth stories, I thought that giving birth was what I’d seen in the movies. Waters breaking in the middle of a mall, ambulances rushing the mother to the hospital where by screaming and sweating she pushes her baby out.
I learned that that’s not the reality! Birth stories are the reality.
I have two very different stories to share. Here goes the first one, the next one will come out next week.
Thank you for listening!
Here's a question for you: What do the nuclear industry and pregnancy yoga have in common?
It’s no secret that I’ve had a career in the nuclear waste industry for many years. I ran my yoga biz alongside my career and have found an uncanny similarity.
So, what do you think it is?
No, it’s not the glow!
Here’s a clue.
During my first job interview in the nuclear industry, I was questioned about the key factors when making business decisions. As a keen graduate wanting to impress, I answered something about the most important thing being efficiency or profit.
WRONG.
The correct answer was SAFETY.
Suffice to say I didn’t get that job.
And guess what? Safety also pretty high up, I’d say the highest, on my list when it comes to pregnancy yoga.
After working in the nuclear industry for many years, certain topics such as safety, become part of you. It’s part of the culture of the industry, it’s not just a quality or a box that you tick, it’s part of the attitude to bring to your job.
And even though I don’t currently work in the nuclear industry, I still maintain the same approach when teaching yoga. Safety first.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you all about the safety guidelines in the nuclear industry. This week’s post is about safety in pregnancy yoga.
It’s not about the details, the do’s and don’ts.
If you’re looking for specifics about the postures and practices, you can find that in my free prenatal yoga guide.
This is about the big picture.
Like with the nuclear industry, I started to treat my pregnancy and the practice, with the respect it deserves. And by doing so, I could also remove the elements of fear (which by the way is another common trait between pregnancy and the nuclear industry, but that’s for another time).
So, listen in for my 3 golden rules for a safe Prenatal Yoga practice.
Thank you for listening!
Big life changes are both exciting and challenging.
For example, relocating to another country is a big deal. Having children is also a big deal.
Doing them both, at the same time, can be daunting (putting it mildly!).
As exciting as these big shifts are our in lives, they can also be scary!
The one thing that can get us through it, is a solid support system. Whether that’s your family or your childhood friends.
But what happens when you’re an expat, and those people are not around for you when you need them? You rely on strangers. You have to find and build your own community.
In this episode of the Yoga, Bellies & Babies Podcast, I talk to Lynette Moore, owner of Baby on Board Spain. As an expat, and then an expat mum, she shares her own experience of being pregnant and having a baby in a foreign country.
Lynette is a British mum, and has a son who was born in Madrid, Spain. She has lived in Spain for 10 years and is still currently in Madrid. Listen in to learn about Lynette’s experiences, what it was like to be pregnant in a foreign country, her postpartum challenges and how she overcame them.
As an expat mum myself, I loved sharing our experiences of what it’s like to be starting out our journey’s into motherhood in foreign countries. We talk about what it’s like to make friends in your 30s and how and when to actually build your tribe to support when you become a new mum.
This whole conversation took me back and reminded me of how resilient and amazing us mums can be!

2022 has been an important year.
There have been highs, like the end of our covid-era where people have been able to hug and reunite again, and lows like the terrible Russia-Ukraine, another recession, amongst other things I prefer to stay away from in this email.
From a personal point of view, 2022 marked the end of my self-appointed maternity leave. I was ready to get back into the workplace. Instead of going back to a full-time job, I decided to turn Krish Yoga from a side hobby into a serious business with serious services.
Until now, my professional experiences have been in academia and in industry, working from 9 to 6. So setting up and running my own business as a mom has been a huge transition for me. It’s only been 8 months since I decided to take this step, and I feel like I’ve had a growth spurt, both professionally and personally.
There have been ups and downs, unrealistic expectations of what an online yoga business really is, and of course, the real life daily struggle of balancing a new project where you pour your heart and soul into, whilst taking care of two small children at the same time with a partner who is constantly travelling for work.
It took some time, and I figured out the best way I can help people.
That was to create an online Yoga membership for pre and postnatal mamas, which helps them feel empowered, transform feelings of anxiety into love, give them a community and support, and feel strong and calm during the process.
All of this, and more, is now available in the form of the Calm & Confident Yoga Membership .
I’ve learnt a lot this year with my entrepreneur journey. And I’d like to share with you my top 10 lessons I hope to carry over into 2023.
I hope my lessons from 2022 help you in your journey. I’d love to hear your thoughts and what biggest takeaways for 2023 are!
For now, I wish you a very happy new year and a wonderful start to 2023!
Thank you for listening!
Why do we say things like: At least the baby is healthy, it’s just a phase, it was meant to be, this too shall pass. It’s ok, it all worked out for the best?
The way we communicate with each other is so important, especially when the other person is in a vulnerable position, as often happens during pregnancy, birth and post-partum.
And why do these ready-made phrases, not only not help, but can actually make us feel worse?
The answer came when I saw Emily Flynn’s post on Instagram, and that's why she's this week's guest!
I’m so grateful for this conversation with Emily. It was incredibly educational, in very real and practical way.
In this episode, Emily breaks down the theory and the research behind Toxic Positivity. She goes into why this phenomenon happens, but also how both sides can manage it in practice.
Emily highlights the importance of this subject in the parenting world. She explains how these words, however well-intentioned they may be, can still hurt someone.
This episode will help us on both sides, how to avoid toxic positivity when speaking to someone, and also how to manage is when we’re on the receiving end.
Things we talk about:
Emily Flynn is a birth and postpartum doula, author, and researcher based in California, USA. She writes about reproductive technologies, maternal mental health, infant sleep, and postpartum fitness. You can find her writing through MUTU System and her substack, Doula Thinking.

Rest without sleep. Relieve stress and anxiety. Think and see clearly. Shift your limiting beliefs.
These are just a few things that can be achieved with Yoga Nidra. Commonly known as Yogic Sleep, and sleep does tend to happen, especially when you’re a tired mum….Yoga Nidra is a very specific practice that focuses on your intention and purpose, and re-wires your brain along the way.
This week, Cristina Guerra takes us through Yoga Nidra. I love this technique because it’s so simple to receive. She tells us all about what it is, how it works and how it can help.
Cristina Guerra is a yogi, an artist, a teacher, a trainer a post-natal doula, and a holistic therapist between many witchcrafts. She spent the last 12 years delivering yoga and coaching in South East Asia, Australia, and Amsterdam, and now is back in her home country, Portugal. She gives support to anyone who wants to relieve stress, pain, insomnia or gain mental or emotional clarity. She guides people into finding their life's purpose and bringing it to manifestation.
Apart from Yoga Nidra, we also talk about home births. Cristina and I know each other from our yoga teaching days in Amsterdam, and we both had home births. We discuss how mine was in The Netherlands, a country where the medical system supports homebirths, whereas she had hers in Portugal, were they’re not supported.
To have the birth of her dreams, Cristina did something incredibly scary and brave….and like most brave things that people do, some people applauded her and some people were very pissed off!
Listen until the end to find out what this was, and how Cristina tells us about the special and intimate moment of the birth of her son. Just letting you know, we do both get emotional during this episode.

Have you ever thought about self-esteem as a muscle? One that needs to be checked, looked after and trained regularly.
Maybe you've also thought about how we can support our future generation build a healthy self-esteem, especially with the increasing social demands?
This is a topic I dove deep into with Shobha Nihalani.
Shobha Nihalani is a multi-genre author, ghost-writer, book coach and a life coach. She has been writing for over 25 years. Her recent book on self-esteem - Reboot, Reflect, Revive: Self-Esteem in a Selfie World – is recognised for raising awareness on self-esteem.
Shobha believes that the way we communicate with ourselves, and others, has the power to impact our lives. Her expertise as a writing and life coach, has given her the opportunity to guide people to write their story, and to turn their dream of writing their book, into reality.
In this episode, we don’t actually talk about her latest book, or book-writing, instead we talk about her journey into becoming a writer, and the important things she’s discovered along the way. Self-esteem is one of those!
Now, proclaiming yourself as a writer and announcing this to the world might not seem radical to many, yet Shobha felt like she was breaking the norm in a her society and going against what she believed was expected of her.
I love her story and her journey towards owning her writing career, and learning to identify herself as a writer (even though she had already published many books!). I relate to her story in my own journey towards owning my yoga teaching career too!
In this episode, we talk about social conditioning and expectations. Our main topic is around self-esteem. Where it comes from, what it means and what implications does it have. We move on to talk about self-esteem in the family. For example, how does our own self-esteem affect us as parents, and how does it affect our children and how can we in turn help our children develop a healthy self-esteem?
Apart from self-esteem, we also talk about:

Your life changes when you have children, but just how much? This week’s episode features Laura Milano, a half-spanish half-Italian mum of two, who went from a career in marketing to becoming a naturopathic coach.
Laura tells us about how her life has changed since becoming a mother. Her career and purpose in life has shifted thanks to the struggles she faced dealing with her postpartum self after her first born, and then battling with the health system to understand and improve her second child’s health condition.
Here is a beautiful example of how something that was labelled as ‘’bad luck’’ then ended up being a blessing in disguise. What I loved most about this conversation is the number of times she followed her instinct, and just fought and figured out a way to make her children’s life better, and consequently her own life better.
Laura now supports people's health and wellbeing through nutrition and coaching helping them to identify the cause of their issues and taking control over their own health to make changes that will last for life.
Listen in to hear Laura explain what it’s like to be a naturopathic coach, why it’s different than just giving different diets to people. Laura also gives us some practical tips on what works when you’re feeling tired and low on energy (yes, we talk about coffee and cake in this episode!).
Laura is also going to be hosting the first workshop in my brand new Calm & Confident Yoga Membership, where she’ll be deep diving into Holistic Nutrition during Pregnancy. Join us on 15th December to learn about this!
In this episode we talk about:
-How she went from Marketing to becomes a Naturopathic coach
-The difference between a dietician and a naturopathic coach.
-Why the solution isn’t just to add more broccoli to your plate and the holistic view is necessary.
-The struggles she had with her first born, how it affected her post-partum and how she changed it
-What happens when the doctor says your son just has ‘’bad luck’’! Laura opens up about how her son’s health issues drove her to find her own solutions to ultimately cure his condition.
-Her personal struggle between breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and how she found the ‘’light’’
-The lessons she’s learnt in her own health and lifestyle through battling with her son's health
-Changes in her health and lifestyle that have made significant improvements in her life
-Tips on managing your energy levels, dealing with chronic tiredness (includes a little chat about coffee!
-What it’s like to enter the workforce after a 6 year ‘’gap’’ and launch a business.
-Why the business concept is to go from surviving to thriving and how to help people do that.

Trigger Warning - this episode refers to sensitive content about miscarriage and child loss
This weeks episode is a story. My own story about loss and recovery. It’s also a story about luck and lessons learnt along the way.
I'm sharing it now, because since this happened, over 5 years ago, I haven’t really written it down, or shared my full experience. I feel it’s time to close a wound.
I'm also sharing it because the one thing that saved me and made me feel better, was listening to other women’s experiences about their own miscarriages. It wasn’t the ‘’I hope you feel better’’, or ‘’it happened for a reason’’ or ‘’it’s ok, 1 in 5/10 women go through this’’ or ‘’it’s nature’s way of telling you something isn’t right.’’ Those things are all true, but they didn’t help me at the time. Who cares if the probability is high, I just kept thinking, why me?
Hearing that I wasn’t alone is was helped me. Not in the sense of statistics. But the actual stories. I knew people around me had had miscarriages and still births, but I’d never heard their full stories, the details of how, where, when it happened, the feelings they went through, their emotions. Hearing their full story helped me and got me through my loss.
I'd also like to recognise that it’s easier to share this now, after having given birth to two healthy children. So here is my story of loss, as well as luck, and my lessons learnt along the way. And it’s here for you if you need it.
Thank you for listening!
We often think that prenatal yoga, is only for when you're pregnant. Of course right? It's obvious, it's in the title.
Yet, anyone is welcome to practice prenatal yoga and many who are not pregnant can benefit and enjoy it too! For example, my husband and his friend would join me during my first pregnancy. I've invited my mother and my sister-in-law to join classes with me, or follow the ones I teach online (and by the way, neither was pregnant or had the intention of being so!). The many benefits to prenatal yoga (breathwork, strengthening large muscle groups, the calming and grounding effect) are there for everyone, not just pregnant people.
However, my point in this week's blog post is that not only many people can benefit from prenatal yoga, but is that your what you learn in prenatal yoga, can serve you for after the pregnancy!
Prenatal Yoga helps for the birth preparation, and for after the birth during the postnatal period in many ways (another post for this!). And what people don't realise, is that what you learn during those 25-30 prenatal yoga classes (assuming you go once a week) can serve you for life.
Listen to the full episode to learn 5 ways how prenatal yoga can serve you for life!
P.S: I'm adding a new element to my Yoga offerings. Starting in November, Krish Yoga will have a Perinatal Emotional and Mental Health Coach joining the team, Helen Wright.

Jennison Grigsby, is a mum and a Yoga teacher. Originally from California, Jennison now lives in Valencia, Spain with her husband, son and dog.
Upon meeting Jennison, whether it´s in person or online, you can immediately feel her joy and positivity. It´s clear how the work she does through yoga brings people together, creating deep meaningful connections and a sense of community. She’s friendly, out-going and super approachable.
A few months ago, I saw a post of hers where she talked about how she’s been suffering from bouts of depression over the years.
I was surprised and wondered how is it possible that someone who is bursting with joy, can also suffer from depression? This shows how little I know!
I was impressed at her bravery for sharing this online, and even though I don’t know enough about depression, I do know that a lot people suffer from it.
In this episode of the Yoga, Bellies & Babies Podcast, Jennison very gladly offered to share her experiences. She opens up about her journey with anxiety and depression and us back to when it started in her 20s.
She explains how the feelings shifted during her international moves, pregnancy, after having her baby and even now, years after. She shares how it feels, how she has learnt to see another bout of depression coming her way and how she manages it when it does come.
In this episode we talk about:
Jennison's main work is based in Valencia, Spain, and is focused on building community and connection through unique yoga events and experiences for all levels of practitioners. In addition to local events, Jennison also loves hosting international retreats as a way to connect deeper within ourselves and with one another.

This week’s episode features Frances Robertson-Richie. Frances is a mum of three, a yoga teacher and hypnotherapist.
Frances also had a career in the fashion industry in central London, working in a high-stress and high-pressure environment until she had a health scare which made her re-evaluate her life and take new measures, leading her to where she is today.
Her vision now is very clear. She sees Yoga as something that can shared in a simple and accessible way. Free of jargon and dogma. A place where someone who may have been intimidated by the idea of a Yoga class would feel comfortable. When you go to her class, like I did last month, that vision of her does truly come across.

Trigger warning -> this episode talks about miscarriages during the 1st trimester
What to do during the 1st trimester can be very controversial. Different people will give you different advice. When it comes to yoga, it is generally recommended not to attend a general Yoga class or even a prenatal class during your first trimester.
In this episode I share:

Do you feel overwhelmed lately? I have been feeling like that in the recent months. I also get that general feeling from people around me lately.
I wanted to share this feeling, which I’m referring to as overwhelm in this episode. That feeling when you are not just busy, and overloaded, but that it’s somehow all happening at once.
Lately for me, it’s been quite a regular phase that appears in my life. I seem to be experiencing this feeling when it all happens at the same time, more often. However, I’m somehow not feeling as stressed as I would have expected. So, even though this feeling of overwhelm is more frequent, somehow I am less negatively impacted by it. I must be doing something right! I had a think about what that was, and I share it with you in this episode.
In this episode I talk about why I've been feeling overwhelmed recently, why this is important to acknowledge and the 5 ways I have learned to manage the feeling of overwhelm.

During pregnancy the focus is on Mum and Baby. After Pregnancy it on Baby and Mum. The Partner, the carer, the support usually comes in third place. This makes complete sense, however their role and effort can often be overlooked.
This is why I wanted to interview my partner, Burzin Rustumji, and ask him about his views and experiences during the pregnancies, births and baby journeys we’ve shared together.
He shares his views very openly and honestly, and talk about things like:
-How to have those difficult conversations around pregnancy and children. You’ll hear how he had to express he wasn´t ready to have children
-How he viewed his role during my pregnancies and birth
-He opens up about his experience during our miscarriage
-How the roles be distributed during pregnancy. Is it actually possible to share the load in a 50-50 way?
-Some of the preparation we did for each birth
-His experience and memory of each births and how a hospital birth compares to a home birth.
-Managing the emotions and a new baby with a very limited Paternity leave.
-The famous ‘’Papa Dag’’ in The Netherlands and taking unpaid leave to be with your baby.
-The highs and lows of the first day out with your baby ALONE
-How we have balanced between juggling two professional careers and make drastic changes in our personal life
-His tips on how a couple can survive the journey of pregnancy and birth

*Trigger Warning - This episode contains some graphic information about the birthing process and talks about PTSD during the post-natal periods which may cause some discomfort to listeners.*
I admire women who are not afraid of embracing it all; the good, the bad and the ugly. Sally Parkes is one of those.
Sally has a beautiful approach to Yoga and Life. She’s really smart, hardworking and has a fantastic sense of humour, and more importantly is really open-minded, non-judgemental and incredibly honest.
For example, when she found out that someone was stealing her teaching content and using her materials to make their own course, she went on to Facebook and posted something like ‘’whoever you are, I’m going to track you down, and give you a hug! Cos that’s what you probably need the most if you’re doing this’’.
For me, she really embodies what it is to be a yogi, and that’s why I wanted her to be my guest her on this podcast!
Here's what we talk about:
-Managing serious Yoga injuries with and without Yoga.
-Sally's pregnancy experiences, birth stories, and the self-imposed expectation of what it should be like, especially being a prenatal yoga teacher.
-Sally opens up about her PTSD related to giving birth to her daughter, and how she went through very different experiences during giving birth to her two daughters and tools she used to manage the challenging post-partum phase.
-Her work and how to balance being a single mother and running a growing online yoga business and what self-care and your personal yoga practice can look like.
