Welcome to the Dreamer’s Manual podcast. The place where entrepreneurs learn to follow their dreams without sacrificing their inner peace.

I'm the creator of the Hire, Hire Pants on Fire Course, online business manager, and a lifelong dreamer myself. And I created this podcast like your favorite streaming service - dropping new season’s throughout the year to give you deep dives on topics related to business, life, and entrepreneurship that will help you focus on your zone of genius and guide you from your dreams to your version of success.

"It is far more lucrative and fun to leverage your strengths instead of attempting to fix all the chinks in your armor.
The choice is between multiplication of results using strengths or incremental improvement fixing weaknesses that will, at best, become mediocre"
Tim Ferriss
Do you focus on building up your strengths or shoring up your weaknesses?
If we over-focus on what we're not great at we're neglecting spending time practicing and excelling in that thing we're really good at.
Today on the podcast I'm giving examples of re-framing common weaknesses and how they might actually be serving you in your life and in your business.
We also talk about how focusing on what your great at and making it better could be a much easier (and more enjoyable) path to success for you.

Have you ever felt stuck in your business?
Do you doubt yourself? Make investments without knowing if they will increase your bottom line or drain your time and profit?

On this episode, we take you behind the scenes of our (formerly) private "Hot Goss" sessions and tackle the topics of:
If you haven't had the pleasure to meet Richelle yet - she is a freelance copywriter and virtual assistant, based in Colorado. She was born and raised in rural Kansas. She is a Kansas State alum, where she earned a degree in Entrepreneurship with a focus in Marketing. After graduation, she made the move to Colorado.
Early in her professional life, she quickly realized that the corporate world and the role of an "employee" were not where she truly belonged. While on maternity leave with her daughter, she launched her business and became fully booked within 4 months. This allowed her to leave her corporate job and become a full time freelancer. Richelle specializes in email marketing, blog posts, social posts and VIP Day Dubsado builds. In addition to her business, she is also a blog contributor to the Colorado Springs Mom Collective.
She is a mom, with two kids under 3, a dog mom to 2 chihuahuas, and fulfilling her dream as a trophy wife. In her free time, you can find her working on a DIY home project, hiding away in the craft room or playing with her plants.

Captivating Quotes from this Episode:5:53 Harnessing all the components to build our Business Intelligence
“So looking at people’s marketing data, as well as operational data, because to me, they're both really important in a business, there are two components, as well as financial data, which also build together to formulate what's called Business Intelligence, which big businesses use on a regular basis to guide their efforts. And I really think as small business owners, we need to take advantage of that as well. And using that business intelligence, intelligence to guide us forward in what we do. So I love that intersection of data and operations, and how the two inform each other. And really helping business owners harness their data. So that they, as I said earlier, just really make better decisions.”
12:07 The data deep dive is where the nuggets are
“ I think a lot of times we get caught in, let's fix it quickly. And when we're trying to fix it quickly, we don't do that deep dive. And the deep dive is often where the nuggets are, you know, where you're finding the real gems. And it's like, OH! because a quick fix just looks like people are on our list. And our email list is growing. Yeah, that's a good thing. You know, a deeper dive says, Oh, they're on the list for three months before they actually make a purchase. Okay, so you know then you need to nurture these people for three months cycle in order to get them to make a buy.
19:24 Starting with your Marketing Analytics to create time freedom
“We're on this content creation hamster wheel and feeling completely burnt out. So by starting with your marketing analytics, obviously, if you have a website, I strongly encourage you to have Google Analytics 4 installed on that. Because that is one way you're going to figure out how are people finding you, you know, connect that to your Google Search Console and have those things on your site. So you're knowing what SEO people are using to find you and where the heck are they coming from? Are they coming from just random Google or Bing searches? Or are they coming from Instagram? Facebook, Linked in Twitter, Pinterest, whatever that platform is in is that platform where you are spending your time?”
36:46 setting realistic expectations with your data
“ Being realistic in that if you've never launched anything, please don't tell me you want 50 like 1000 versions. Like, it would be great and wonderful. And I hope you have all the pixie dust to do that. But the reality is like a more realistic managed expectation is probably like your best goal might be 20, you know, in like your good goal is just that it might be 2 and be okay with that and know that it's a learning process. And it's a learning experience. And you'll take the data from what you've learned on this one, and you'll apply it to the next one, and that one will have more people. So it's looking at all of it as all interconnected. You know, and I don't know if we always do that, in our, in our minds, we think parts of our businesses… we don't always make the connections between what happens with operations as it relates to sales. Because if you did have 25 conversions, is your team ready to handle what that looks like to get that product out, to onboard those people into a coaching program, to… whatever it is like you want to see how each of these things is actually connected to one another. And when you start to have that more holistic framework, it really helps you make sure that you allow the timelines and set the right expectations for yourself and your team. And I think that really comes into play and it's helpful.”
46 :05 Her Google Analytics 4 Checklist resource
“The tool I have is it literally it's a migration checklist, it is 10 steps to get you set up in Google Analytics for without a tech team you do not have to be techie to do this, this will get you set up. This will also include important things like filtering out your internal IP, because a lot of things that took place in Universal Analytics was, people had their own, they never blocked out their own IP address. So that meant every time I went to my own website, it was counting me. And you're like, Well, I had 15 new visitors. Oh, wait, that was me for 13 of those. And so we don't want that data, we want to have what they call clean data and not dirty to be like, yeah, that was me. Okay, so we want to filter out you. Also get your team's IP addresses and filter them out, name them who they are. So that, you know those visits are not getting commingled with actual customer visits. And we can make some better decisions from that data. But literally, it's an easy peasy checklists, it gets you going, it gets you set up.”

Many online business owners get their start in the corporate world before they set out to become entrepreneurs. It's a place where we can learn some great skills, but we can also develop a faulty perception of how valuable our talents truly are when we’re playing by somebody else’s rules.

Now she’s the owner of a successful marketing agency and helps other women gain the marketing skills to go out on their own and build their own successful freelance marketing businesses.
Listen to get all the details about her career as a corporate Director of Marketing, and how she shares her framework and processes to open up a world of possibility with her clients.
Highlights from this EpisodeWe talk about:
Learning Director of Marketing role in an in-house agency in the corporate environment and beginning freelancing to take control over her future, and run and scale her own online marketing business
Connecting with the first client creating a strategy, and recognizing the opportunity to fill a need in the online space.
Empowering women to recognize their talents and confidently offer their skills to a broader client base
The simple steps you can take to create a values-based business to help align your business with your goals, and stay off the hamster wheel of hustle while building or growing your business.
Managing the balance between increasing cash flow and growing your services without burning out through planning what offer model is sustainable for you.
The actionable steps to take TODAY to start moving the needle forward in your service-based business.

When it comes to our businesses, processes and systems might not be everybody’s love language. But that’s why we have this amazing community of online service providers to lean on to create the clarity and ease in our business that helps us thrive.
I had the opportunity to chat with fellow OBM Shay Howard in October, and I loved learning about her story, and how it informed her perspectives in her service-based business.
Shay is a mom and wife who lives in Northern Colorado. She left her career as a high school counselor after having her daughter in August of 2021 and is now a Director of Operations, Online Business Manager, and Dubsado specialist. Shay partners with female creatives who are in a stage of growth to help streamline their business with operations, systems, and strategic planning.
When she is not serving her clients, you’ll find Shay spending time with her daughter and husband, playing fetch with the dogs, lifting at her local CrossFit gym, or visiting her family’s ranch in South Dakota. We got to chat a little bit about the similarities between weightlifting and business… you’re going to love that conversation. She also shares insights to help get aligned with your mission, vision, and values while offering an exceptional client experience that infuses energy and ease into your business.
Make sure you scroll down to the bottom to access the links and connect with Shay!
Highlights from this EpisodeWe talk about:
Having outside interests and commitments help shape our mindset and perspective with our own business
Surrounding ourselves with the people in business who help ground us and help us shift and protect our energy and move in the right direction for our business.
Becoming confident about the client experience you’re offering
Creating ease for yourself and your clients through specific processes

Have you thought about starting a podcast? Or have you considered being a guest on podcasts to grow your business? Today on the show I'm breaking down what one year of running and growing a podcast has looked like behind the scenes - and things to consider if you want to do the same thing! The fun, connections, and marketing the Dreamer's Manual podcast has brought into my business has been an incredible journey - and one that I'm so grateful for. The podcast has also given me some unexpected gifts like stepping more fully every episode into my own expertise - and the confidence to show up in other places online - like TikTok and IG Live!
So whether you have a podcast idea you'd like to bring to the world, love peeking behind the scenes to see what the first year of our podcast was really like, or want to celebrate with us - today's episode is for you!

Today on the podcast I'm digging into the 8 red (and yellow) flags I see most often in virtual hiring - both what they are and how what steps to take if you see these things come up when your hiring a team. Whether you're thinking of hiring someone for your business or you want to know how to show up better for your own sales calls, this episode has something for you. When I started by business online after having my second child, I started to break down and document my hiring process: ✅ How to find the right team member for a specific business ✅ How to screen these candidates ahead of time to make interviews as productive as possible ✅ What questions to ask candidates to get to know them at a deeper level - and look for red flags This is the same hiring process I share with my clients as they grow and build their virtual teams and in my course Hire, Hire Pants on Fire.

As someone who grew up before the age of Instagram and Facebook I sometimes still have a love/hate relationship with social media. Where I fall most days is a gratitude for the connection, opportunities, entertainment, and education I find online. BUT that doesn't mean that there aren't seasons where it feels hard.
Today on the podcast we're diving into what happens when social media makes us feel more bad than good and what to do about it.

I'm feeling called in this season to simplify, and declutter (physically and with my time). No matter how busy the day is, if I was doing what I most wanted to do, I feel happy and content. I believe staying aligned with your values by knowing what things don't fit into your life and business will not only bring you happiness but protect you from stress and burnout. When you say No to something you are making room for more of what brings you joy. I was inspired by Kate Northrup's No list to create one of my own. You could use a list like this for your life or your business - and I hope this episode inspires you to create one of your own! Today on the podcast I'm sharing the 4 big things that are on my "No" list and how that creates more of what I want to say "Yes!" to!

Have you ever wondered what would happen to your business if life threw you an unexpected curve ball (or 10)? That’s exactly what happened to Kaci as she was diagnosed with and treated for cancer, had emergency surgery, got married, and moved out of state all in the beginning of 2021! Systems quite literally saved her business, and in this episode, she generously shares the strategies and resources she has learned to support other service providers. In less than 2 years, Kaci went from dental office manager, to being furloughed during the early days of Covid 19, to running a six-figure business! She’s a Certified Online Business Manager and ClickUp expert who transforms freelancers into CEOs with strategy, planning, and systems building so they can be confident in the back-end of their business, and not stuck in the weeds. Her mission is to meet business owners where they’re at in their business and serve the hell out of them!
I had a blast recording this episode with Kaci Ackerman, and not just because she’s a fellow OBM. There is so much value packed into this episode for online service providers at all stages of their business.
Highlights from this Episode
We talk about:
The powerful personal story of how systems and support in place equipped Kaci to deal with a year of major life-altering changes and challenges while still keeping her business afloat and supporting clients in her absence.
How systems really are sexy! And they can empower business owners to focus on doing what they love in their business and whittle down the time they spend on the day-to-day minutia in their business every day.
Her Clickup templates, course offers, and VIP Days that customize and simplify automated systems for virtually any kind of service provider at various investment levels.
Embracing what speaks to you and lights you up when serving others to find your niche and what to know about yourself and look for in others when seeking support or mentorship
Addressing the seemingly daunting tasks and realizing the simplicity of putting the tasks in place with SOPs when you take it one small step at a time.
Why systems don’t just empower you, but they also empower your team and support the longevity of your business through unexpected emergencies or times of struggle.

One thing that's true for me as an OBM and as a person is that I love to hear about peoples' processes. Their behind-the-scenes moments. How they decided to do this vs. that. And their future dreams (and how that played out in reality). Today on this bonus episode of the podcast I'm pulling back the curtain and talking about how we plan and execute our internal projects, what we have in store for the next 8 weeks, and how I'm thinking about and preparing my business for quarter 4 of 2022. I'll be back soon with an update and a recap so tag along on the journey of running an online business!

Have you applied for jobs you really wanted only to not get an interview? It's happened to all of us. Thankfully, there are little things that you can tweak that will get you an interview (and yes, spelling and grammar are on the list because it happens every time that someone talented gets excluded because they didn't run a spell check!).

Whether you've been in business a day or years one of the constants is that you'll need to have some tough conversations from time to time. This could be with a client, your team members, a team you're in charge of leading, or a fellow business owner.
These include: Raising your prices Letting go of a client A team member not holding up their end of the contract and more!
In this episode, I break down when and where to have these conversations, what to say and how to follow up. I also shared two ways that I motivate myself to have a conversation I'm really not looking forward to.
If you want to save time, simplify, and use a proven template for having hard conversations you can find my https://www.julietraining.com/offers/6rFBAmY6 (Tough Conversation Templates HERE).

This is an episode close to my heart as an Online Business Manager (OBM). I have the privilege of getting to talk to online business owners every day and let's get real - at the worst, they can be overwhelmed and burnt out - and that's heartbreaking!
At the least, most of us need support to streamline the things we do on a regular basis and it's those systems that buy us time back in our life and our business.
Today I'm sharing the systems every business owner needs in their business and how to take what you're already doing to the next level.

Captivating Quotes from this Episode: There are some really big powerful positives to social media. But when we look at some of the detractors, creating all that content is the number one thing people tend to be feeling frustrated about the amount of time they're spending creating content. Sure, they may get some likes, or they may get some comments, but it's not actually turning into qualified leads and actual sales. There's a difference between saying hey, look at me, I'm awesome and trying to sell someone on your awesomeness. Versus the third type of media I'll talk about which is earned media where you have somebody else giving you credibility saying hey, look at them. They're awesome. So earned media is the type that I don't think as many online business owners are familiar with. Nor do they know that it's easy for them to access. So when we're talking about earned media, this is leveraging somebody else's platform. Knowing who you are as a person and then knowing the purpose of the visibility that's going to help inform what is the strategy It would make sense for you. I find my most qualified leads do come from podcasts, if somebody has invested 30, 45, 60 minutes in listening to me talk about visibility, they're coming away as a warm lead, they hop onto my email list, learn a little bit more and then typically want to learn how they can go further in a relationship with me. I swear I could give somebody Oprah's email address and the best pitch in the world. And they may not hit send on it because they don't feel worthy of that visibility or their imposter complex is telling them that they can't do it. So we actually spend some time working on building up that confidence so that you're able to take these tools and put yourself out there. You could be the absolute best at what you do. But if people don't know that you exist, they can't work with you.

Kim and I are BACK! It’s been a while since we talked books and we felt it was time. Especially as we move into a new season with more books being released. We’re talking about what we’re reading, what we’ve read, and most importantly 🤣what we’re excited to read! If you’re like us with a TBR as long as the script for Gone with the Wind… then listen in! Maybe you’ll get some ideas on what you really should take off your TBR shelf! Or things you need to add to it! This was 100% a ridiculously fun conversation and of course, books are linked in the show notes! We try not to do spoilers, but if we start talking about a book or series you’re interested in or are reading… listen with caution! Highlights from This Episode: Kim and I give a quick update on our TikTok spending, accounts we follow, and what’s trending in our feeds. Have you read Throne of Glass yet? Kim shares her update and a fantastic recommendation! Our most recent reads and which genres are topping our Kindle libraries. Why journaling when you’re reading non-fiction and self-help books is extremely important if you’re looking for true transformation. … why I love what I’m reading but also completely found myself in a 🤦♀️situation…
Captivating Quotes from this Episode: My summer catch up is I'm still reading Throne of Glass, but I feel like I need a small intro before I give you my list because everyone's gonna think what the crap Kim, but I've been like on a self help nonfiction kick. - Kim I feel like I've had a really, really good streak of books. My caveat is, and it actually really sucks, is they're all like the first book and an unfinished series. - Julie Talking about the comments on Rich Roll’s book, “If you're looking for a book, like, you know what you thought this is going to be, read Born to Run. So without reading even the description of what the book was about, I was like, Okay, I'm going to read that book. And I have to say, it has been probably my favorite read of the entire year so far.” Modern shoes are like a cast. And it goes into the history of Nike. And we all know Phil Knight, but I didn't know there was another equal partner who had the ideas for the running shoes. And how not only did they sort of ruin this country's feet with running shoes, shoes in general. And the more cushion the more this the more that she was, like, trashing our feet. But they knew it.

What’s your favorite way to create content? And I do mean favorite way. I ask this question because I know some people love to write. Others love to talk things out. Still others have fun hopping on camera and creating videos. No matter how you like to create content, what is it that keeps you creating? For me, I need to have the time and space to lean into my creativity, but also to explore topics that are interesting to me. I would also prefer to talk things out rather than write. While I don’t HATE writing, it feels so much better to just talk. Why am I telling you all of this? Because when people ask me about my podcast I get two types of questions. The first is about podcast strategy and how to get a podcast going. The other is all about creating content and knowing what to talk about. I’m sharing all about the mindset I was in as I started my podcast and why I decided to take everything I knew about podcasting and turn it on its head. Want to incorporate a new way of creating content in your business, but concerned about doing it your way? Learn how to create authentic content that feels good to you and keeps YOU engaged and get a glimpse behind the scenes of the podcast! Highlights from This Episode: I’m sharing what it took for me to rethink how I was creating content My process for figuring out my preferred way of getting content from my brain to you Why, whatever I chose had to be fun! (Hint: Ever listen to the intro?) My process for inviting guests on The reason you won’t ever hear the same information over and over again
Captivating Quotes from this Episode: I said listen, I am not going to create any more content. If this is what it's going to look like. I'd rather do nothing than do something like this. It has to be fun because if I'm not enjoying it, it is going to feel like a huge amount of work that I have just added to my plate. So that's why right out of the gate, when we thought about the intro for the podcast, now, you might like love the intro, you might hate the intro. Ultimately, like it makes me smile. And me as a listener, when I tune into people's podcast, I really appreciate a well thought out and descriptive intro. But the reality is, when I'm a listener, and I've listened to my 50th episode from that person, I'm kind of over it. There was this frustration, and this feeling of inauthenticity that I had. So really making the decision to lean into who you are, and then making and setting your expectation around it. For me that was fun, and letting things unfold as you make that intention known. I believe that you guys are as multifaceted as I am. And you don't want to hear the same thing probably over and over and over again. I like to have spontaneous conversations. I very rarely preplan my interview questions. I prefer to really be in the moment and give my full 100% attention on the person. So it's like the active listening. I'm taking in what they're saying. And I think because of that I'm also able to hopefully my goal is asked questions that would occur to you as a listener.

Latrice Prater is a Neurodivergent CEO of The Digital Solutions Team, a virtual agency providing tech and operations solutions to female business owners. Latrice is a wife and mother of 3, who currently resides in the Austin Texas area. She is fiercely passionate about people, personal and professional development, and harnessing her authenticity to attract her tribe. Latrice loves to provide training and guidance to women who are service providers with online businesses and identify as neurodivergent. As a woman in business with ADHD, Generalized Anxiety, Bipolar II Disorder, and Insomnia, she knows firsthand the challenges one faces to run and sustain a profitable business. She started her journey as a business owner in February 2020 as a solopreneur. She now leads a small agency that consists of a team of 13 amazing women and continues to scale her six-figure business because she’s harnessed her secret sauce. Listen in as we chat about neurodivergency in business, hiring for your weaknesses, and figuring out how to harness your strengths to propel your business forward. Latrice was so much fun to talk to, and I cannot wait for you to dive in! Highlights from This Episode: Building a revenue generating, sustainable business, with a team, while dealing with ADHD and other neurodivergencies. How she works and the ways in which she communicates that to her clients and her team. Where she’s been able to find success in both identifying new clients and in running her team. Why leading from a service mindset has helped propel her forward both in life and business. Why niching down is so hard for female, neurodivergent entrepreneurs.
Captivating Quotes from this Episode: Everything about me is what you see is what you get. I'm very much like that on social media. Because I always tell people, the whole purpose of wanting to start a business was because I didn't want to conform to society's idea of what professionalism should be or should look like. I always tell people if you don't want to throw your business away, at least once a week, then you're not doing it right, because I want to throw it away every other day. Because I didn't take everybody else's advice and niche down, my ADHD brain was allowed to just do what it wanted to do a little bit. Because even though, at the time, I was focused on admin, I had clients that were in so many different industries that I didn't get bored. What I've really found out is the secret sauce to business is me. I am the secret sauce. I'm the reason why my business pops is because people like me. So how am I showing them me if I'm trying to follow somebody else. So that's why I quickly was able to shift because I was like, This doesn't feel authentic. It is a limiting belief to believe that I only have to create one thing and just offer one thing. Because how my business grew was the simple fact that I did not niche down it was because I kind of went with the ebbs and flows. If I liked it, great. If I didn't, I wouldn't do it again.

Look, I don’t know what people in other parts of the country or world do when summer rolls around, but here in Alaska, we go hard! With the sun coming up before 5a and not setting until after 11p, we finally have a ton of daylight and amazing weather to get out and do things. AND WE DO! When you own your own business, that means setting it up so that you can take the time away to enjoy the amazing weather. This is my fourth year in business and my fourth year setting things up so that I can spend time enjoying my family, friends, and the amazing weather we see in the summer. I’ve had some time to practice my process, which is why I’m sharing it with you. Something to keep in mind, RIGHT NOW, is to block out the times you KNOW you’re going to be out. This is the one thing that I most often forget to do and it causes nothing but problems if you have a place where potential clients can book a time on your schedule automatically. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve realized I forgot to block out time, someone scheduled, and then it’s a whole process to get them rescheduled. If you’re ready to get your business summer ready, then check out these… Highlights from This Episode: Figure out your summer (or insert current season here) non-negotiables Learn where you’re spending the most time in your business and where you can systemize Batching your content creation will save you so much time Create a true “tentative” schedule with time blocked out on your calendar Include all the important people in your scheduling process
Captivating Quotes from this Episode: It's hard when it's 11 o'clock at night and the sun is shining down and you just want to sit on your back porch and read a book or have a margarita, it's hard to tell yourself, no, it's actually late and you should go to bed. This is my fourth year doing this, so I have a little bit of a routine way that I think about things and questions that I asked myself before writing or developing my summer schedule. Run these things through a filter, sort of that eliminate, delegate, this can be done later, filter. When I did this exercise las, I actually moved an entire project that I was really excited about to the fall, because it just didn't feel good anymore. Something that I always love to do is to ask my kids what's on their summer wish list. And if you don't have kids, this could be your spouse, or you could talk to your friends and see like, what are some things that they're really hoping or wishing to do this summer, but I like to ask my kids, what are the things that they really want to see happen, and make sure that that's on my radar. I know that if I want to have the schedule that I want for the summer, I don't want to be tied to having to create a certain amount of content every day or every week. I want to as, much as I can, batch content out.

Kari Roberts started her professional career as a Licensed Physical Therapist. In an effort to lean into more creative pursuits, and to bring in some additional money, she started a side business as a makeup artist. As she grew her side business, she talked about it. She’d done a great job of putting systems in place to help her succeed and stay on top of her business while still working as a physical therapist.
Then Covid happened. While she wasn’t a true “front line worker” she did have to keep going to work when so many others were able to stay home. As the fear mounted, she decided to lean into her business building abilities and started her OBM business.
Kari is now an OBM, makeup artist, physical therapist, AND digital shop owner. She’s multi-passionate and it has helped her to grow and expand that much more quickly.
The addition of her digital S.O.P. Shoppe has changed and expanded her business in ways she didn’t initially expect. Listen in to hear why she opened it, how it’s going, and ways her business has grown since her digital doors opened.
Highlights from This Episode:
It’s okay to be multi-passionate, but each passion needs its own designated place in your business.
Creating multiple entry points for your business helps meet your clients and customers right where they are.
Having a digital commerce store can and does open doors you wouldn’t expect.
The strategy behind how your D-Commerce shop fits into your current offers is extremely important.
Don’t over-complicate your tech stack.
Captivating Quotes from this Episode:
I was very open and honest about it [being a makeup artist] being a side hustle. People started asking me to help them with their side hustles so then I branched off into business consulting and business strategy.
As an entrepreneur, that's when I really felt like I don't want to be labeled even as a side hustler. People would say, “Oh, you're just a hobbyist. It's not a real business.” Like, no, it's legit a real business. I get income, I pay taxes, I pay myself, I have someone that helps me.
I've probably written hundreds of SOPs and workflows and whatnot, but I kinda have the same way of doing it. So I thought, what if instead of teaching someone how to write their own workflow or custom system, I gave them a template to show them how to write their own? And that was where the idea [for the S.O.P. Shoppe] came from.
I spent a lot of time and effort to create each one of those things [SOP templates]. But I only did it once, and now that it's there, I can sell it on repeat, I can put things on sale. Also, I've been a part of different bundles, and I'm able to say I can contribute to your freebie or I can contribute to a gift and reduce one item or give something away or whatever. I like having that flexibility to be a part of more collaborative projects.
Especially as a woman of color, you know, my grandmother wouldn't have had these opportunities, and that's not lost on me. She had very few options with what she could do to earn a living and that is definitely not lost. I mean, I think it's pretty cool that I started a whole business, because I thought it was a good idea. And now it's contributing to our household. And I have a team and I get to help them contribute towards their whole household and their personal goals. I think that is so cool.

I tried something new AKA messy action! Last week I recorded my first IG Live and can I tell you I was terrified? As soon as I got done recording I thought....'why was I so scared of that?'.
If this sounds familiar I'd love to know what one thing you're scared of that you're going to try this week?! https://instagram.com/juliecalcoteobm (DM on Instagram) @juliecalcoteobm

Knowing WHEN you are most creative is necessary when it comes to being productive, fulfilled, and timely with your projects. Especially when you have multiple demands on your time, cough little kids? cough. Listen as my friend Steph O’Keefe and I chat about keeping your creativity cup filled and how she does it while running a successful design business and raising two beautiful boys. Steph has had several different “work lives.” She started off as a teacher, but realized that a teacher’s salary wasn’t conducive to working and raising a family. When she had her first child, she knew she was going to have to come home. So she became a stay at home mom.
Then she found the world of online business and was thrilled to realize that she could stay home with her littles and have a lucrative creative outlet.
She is now using her experience and years of playing in Paint and designing fun lesson plans for her Kinder and 1st graders to create ethereal brand assets and websites. It takes creative skill and the ability to set fantastic boundaries and client expectations, but she is making her business dreams happen while being there for her family.
If you’ve been struggling with tapping into your creative flow when you sit down to work, you’ll want to listen to this one until the end!
Highlights from This Episode:
It’s important to work on creative projects when you are most creative. Life happens. Build in additional time for your project scope to account for those days when things go off the rails and you have to take a rest. Movement is necessary when you’re trying to refill your creativity bucket because body movement begets clarity of thought and creativity. Give yourself the grace to shift your schedule and your days when priorities change. Hobbies are insanely important for refilling your cup. If you don’t know where to start with finding a hobby for yourself, simply try something new!
Captivating Quotes from this Episode:
Being flexible, it is just kind of practicing grace with yourself in knowing these are the tasks that I must do. Because of course, as business owners like there are definitely things that you have to get done. And this is a deadline that we need to get done today, regardless of how creative or non creative you're feeling in that moment. Give yourself space in finding what it is that does refill your creativeness or your inspiration, even if you're not necessarily doing something that is classified as creative. You're creating, you're inspiring, you're creating products, or potentially coaching and all of that comes from a spot of inspiration. Asking your friends or other colleagues like, what is it that you do? What are you passionate about? How do you like to spend your time? Really finding out more about what others are doing, because that can also inspire a new hobby and tap into a new thing. Give yourself time and space to really rest and be able to create but then also, when you maybe don't get that project or that thought doesn't come to you and it's not kind of coming together as you want it to, give yourself grace to pause, go do something else that really fills up your heart and your creative juices and then come back to it when you feel like you can really tackle it.

Neurodivergency has been a hot topic across all platforms in the last few years, but aside from being trendy, it’s also real. So much of the stigma surrounding neurodivergency is being trounced each and every day and it’s people like Danielle Ralston who are leading the charge. Danielle is ADHD and dyslexic and had been written off as being mentally retarded when she was in school. She wasn’t even given school books because none of her teachers felt as if she could be taught, so she didn’t need her books. It all changed for her because of just one teacher. One amazing inspiration who knew that she was able and capable and helped her develop the tools she needed to succeed. That one teacher is the reason why Danielle is able to empower others today. She now owns multiple businesses and helps coach other neurodivergent business owners to reach their goals. Danielle is making waves in the business world and hopes to help others do the same. Highlights from This Episode:None of us does everything well, but we all have at least one important strength. Creating a task management system doesn’t necessarily require a project management tool. When working with a neurodivergent client, it’s important to set up systems that work specifically for them. Even if it takes extra time to develop and implement! You can run an OBM business with a team full of neurodivergent team members. It takes time, skill, and grace, but it’s possible. If you’re a neurodivergent business owner, it’s important that you hire people who are your opposite to coordinate the things in your business. Are you an introvert trying to figure out how to overcome your overwhelming dread of connecting with others to gain visibility for your business? It’s terrifying right? Every day someone is telling you to put a camera in your face in order to reach your ideal client. Or to hop on all the Zoom calls to find that deeper connection. Or even the dreaded advice to just network on social media… It all sounds so overwhelming and so far outside of your comfort zone that you just want to run and hide. In today's episode, I’m sharing how I’ve overcome my EXTREME introversion to not only gain visibility for my business but also make lifelong connections and friends. (And of course I’m starting with all the things you DON’T have to do to have a successful business… I’m looking at you Reels!) Listen to the end to hear the Rich AF journal prompts that have helped me re-evaluate my own inner thoughts about what being an introvert means in business.

Support. I suspect we could all use some extra support in our lives. Whether it’s in our home, our business, with our kids, or with ourselves needed support is universal. But while some of us will ask for and receive that support some people get stuck on this step. In today’s episode, we are breaking down the reasons why you might not be comfortable asking for or receiving the help that you need and steps to shift that mindset once and for all.

As an OBM, I obviously LOVE nerding out over conversations that get down and dirty over improving operations for online business owners. And one of my favorite ways to do that is bringing on guests who demystify and destigmatize the numbers game. This episode is all about simple methods and practices for tracking your numbers and metrics, brought to you by one of my favorite rule rebels, Richelle Villalta! Richelle is a former insurance agent turned online operations manager. She specializes in all things Google Analytics, metrics, and data, and helps business owners make decisions based on numbers to scale their business.
Richelle is a maverick when it comes to finding solutions because she is all about setting and measuring goals that don’t follow the industry standard but support the strengths and vision of your specific business.
She brings a ton of valuable ideas and content to this episode. Don't forget to snag her freebie at the end of the show notes!

As a life-long lover of learning, Jen takes every opportunity to soak up knowledge that will improve the systems and operation of any business. That is her Ravenclaw soul shining through her work. The success of the businesses Jen and her team works with is, and always will be, their number one priority and passion.

Captivating Quotes from this Episode:
15:30- Julie on growing and learning together in the early stages
“I like to think that we're both really gracious with each other. Because certainly, you were really gracious with me, when I was developing my structures, when I was figuring out the different roles in the team. Because I think sometimes you hire and you start to outsource and you really hone in on what makes the most sense to outsource- And what makes the most sense for that team member. Because while I think anybody on the team would be willing to take on certain things, I think we always paid really close attention to where you really enjoyed showing up and that zone of genius, because I didn't want to say, Well, you know, just keep doing graphics, then like, that wouldn't have worked for you, it wouldn't be for the business. And so it felt really good to learn and grow together.”
16:30 Ellen on leaning in to the imperfect path forward
“I think in another way, it was a blessing for me to be able to see that transition and realize it's gonna be messy, it's not going to be all perfectly lined out in a path. And that’s a really important lesson for me in particular, because I really want that lined out path with all the steps between, you know, whenever it got that way for me, and it's been like that a lot. I didn't stress about it, because I knew it was normal.”
26:29 Julie on pivoting as your evolve
“I've really evolved and pivoted, and still in the process of that this year, you know, definitely the podcast being a part of that. And it's real life, you know, you don't always know what's going to take you from A to Z, like, you know, your goal maybe, but the way that you get there, for me, has looked a lot different than I've expected. So as your role with the team grew and evolved, we definitely noticed that we needed some support, because as you were working on more SOPs, as you were working on our system stuff, we needed to bring in somebody to support those processes and hand those off. Today is a special day - we are premiering our mini-season of Book Talk on the podcast! It’s a holiday here in the states so we wanted to share an episode you could take on a walk, bake some pies, or knit to with a cup of tea. In this podcast, Kim and I share the biggest hits (and a few misses) from our fiction reading this past year. From fantasy to spicy and empowered reads, we’ve been reading up a storm to bring you our best of the best!
For those of you who haven’t met Kim yet, she is a wife and a mother to two amazing children. She recently resigned from her position as a special education teacher and teacher of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing in order to pursue her business helping other mompreneurs optimize their social media and Pinterest content in order to grow their audience, drive traffic to their website, and generate sales. Kim is addicted to coffee, hot tea, and Gilmore Girls.
Come and be our book bestie and nerd out with us while we talk books, high lords, and a few shawl puns!
