86 - President Nelson said, "I urge you to find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord—to be in His holy house—then keep that appointment with exactness and joy. I promise you that the Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples.”

In this episode, Jason and Allison begin a multi-episode discussion of, as President Holland called it, "the wonder of the temple." We hope these episodes will help you love Jesus and His House more than ever, as His House is a place where He can and will make himself more known, clear and obvious to all of us.

85 - On the title page of The Book of Mormon it says its purpose is "to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations."

In this episode, Jason shares his institute lesson from last week where many of the students bore witness of Jesus Christ and how he's become known to them through the Book of Mormon. It's powerful and we hope we enjoy it.

Also, come join Jason at institute on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. at 2150 E Bengal Blvd. The topic, starting September 12, is "Hearing Him & Gaining Positive Spiritual Momentum."

84 - President Packer said, "You are growing up in enemy territory … The adversary is in homes, entertainment, the media, language—everything around you. In most cases, his presence is undetected.” Thankfully, we have The Book of Mormon to expose some of the enemy's most common tactics and strategies -- especially his lies.

In this episode, Jason & Allison discuss how powerful and subtle his lies can be, and how the Truth from Jesus will bring the comfort, direction, protection, and confidence we seek.

81 - Two years ago this month we published our first episode of this podcast! It is entitled "Why We Believe." In it, we shared some of our main reasons for having faith in Jesus Christ and believing in His restored gospel. A lot has happened in the last two years, so we thought it would be worthwhile to talk about why we still believe, and how He has been with us through the ups and downs since that first episode. Please share this with whoever it could help!

77 - "Black clouds may also form in our lives, which can blind us to God’s light and even cause us to question if that light exists for us anymore. Some of those clouds are of depression, anxiety, and other forms of mental and emotional affliction. They can distort the way we perceive ourselves, others, and even God. They affect women and men of all ages in all corners of the world," said Sister Reyna I. Aburto.

She continued, "As disciples of Jesus Christ, we have made a covenant with God that we “are willing to bear one another’s burdens” and “to mourn with those that mourn.” This may include becoming informed about emotional illnesses, finding resources that can help address these struggles, and ultimately bringing ourselves and others to Christ, who is the Master Healer."

In this episode, Jason & Allison discuss and testify of Jesus's divine empathy and how living our covenant, as described by Sister Aburto, can be the key to parting those dark clouds that hang over us, and allow The Light to shine again in our lives.

75 - "In our service in the Lord’s church we should remember that when is just as important as who, what, where, and how," said President Oaks in his 2002 BYU address, "Timing." "The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith means trust— trust in God’s will, trust in His way of doing things, and trust in His timetable. We should not try to impose our timetable on His," he said.

We know this can be hard. Trusting not only in His will but His timing for you and your life can be exhausting. But we testify that it works out, much better than you can imagine, as we keep ourselves fastened to Him, His covenants, commandments, and yes, even his will -- and especially His timing. In this episode, we share some of our own experiences with His timing and we hope it blesses those who need to "hear Him in the wait."

As Elder Patrick Kearon said, "No one has built a roadblock and stationed someone there to turn you around and send you away. In fact, it is the exact opposite. God is in relentless pursuit of you. 71 - At the end of the prophet Nephi's life, he testified that he gloried in "my Jesus." He did not say I glory in "my Savior," "my Redeemer," or any other title or name of Jesus Christ. By the end of his life he was on a first-name basis with our Lord -- can the same be said of us?

In this episode, we published one of Jason's Thursday night Institute class recordings where they discuss this topic. Most of the lesson comprised of testimony after testimony of how these young adults have come to know Him as "my Jesus." We know you'll enjoy hearing from them as much as we did.

70 - Spencer W. Kimball once said, “Man is a god in embryo and has in him the seeds of godhood, and he can, if he will, rise to great heights.”

The whole plan and purpose of being here on earth isn’t just to learn about Jesus and get to heaven when we die.

It’s to BECOME like Him and like our heavenly parents.

Think about what that means.

Everything Jesus does—every gift and attribute He possesses—that’s all available to you.

It’s a pretty exciting plan.

We hope this episode opens your eyes to your own divinity and unlimited potential—if you’re willing to be a devoted student of Jesus Christ.

68 - Today we peel back the curtain on an institute lesson that Jason & Allie taught a few months ago on love, marriage, and the sealing covenant -- their favorite topic. They testify of Jesus Christ and how striving to keep him at the center of it all has blessed their relationship with joy.

Here is a quote by Elder Robert D. Hales that is one of our favorites that goes along with the lesson: "Your responsibility now is to be worthy of the person you want to marry. If you want to marry a wholesome, attractive, honest, happy, hardworking, spiritual person, be that kind of person. If you are that person and you are not married, be patient. Wait upon the Lord. I testify that the Lord knows your desires and loves you for your faithful devotion to Him. He has a plan for you, whether it be in this life or the next.”

67 - There are definitely times in our lives when we don't really want to come to Jesus, or even let Him in. We might feel embarrassed, unclean, unworthy, or even full of sin. But that's exactly when and why we should let Him in -- because He is the answer to all of those problems and not the one who will make it worse.

Truly, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."

66 - When Abraham sought the "blessings of the fathers," he desired things like "greater peace, happiness, and rest." And guess what? He obtained them. In this episode, Jason & Allison talk about the power of faith, hope, and obedience in obtaining our biggest dreams and aspirations. As with Abraham, we know this is possible -- all because of our walking in covenant relationship with Jesus Christ.

In summary, "God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can't if you don't pray, and He can't if you don't dream. In short, He can't if you don't believe.” -- Elder Holland.

47 - If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to feel God’s spirit and love in an atmosphere that doesn’t seem conducive to it, this is a story you need to hear.

Katelyn Vance is a former seminary/current institute student of Jason’s who joined the United States Army Reserves shortly after graduating high school in 2020.

In this episode, Katelyn takes us through what it’s like to go through the rigors of basic training, calling it “the most spiritually enriching time of my life,” which she knows may seem ironic. She shares how this was possible, how she gained a deeper testimony and appreciation for the gospel, and how “freedom is of Christ.”

45 - Many people love and strive to follow Jesus. There are approximately 2.6 billion Christians around the world and many different denominations within Christianity. So… Why does the restored gospel of Jesus Christ matter?

What makes The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unique?

In this episode, Jason and Allison are going to talk about one very important aspect of the Church that they’re particularly grateful for: modern prophets. They discuss what a prophet’s role is, how they’re called of God and most importantly, how they bring us closer to Jesus Christ if we heed their counsel and instructions.

In the words of the Prophet Joseph Smith, “The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith [2007], 49)

If you want to know why the Restoration matters, this is a good place to start.

41 - Since becoming the prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson has emphasized the importance of calling the Church by its correct name.

In the October 2018 General Conference, President Nelson said, “To remove the Lord’s name from the Lord’s Church is a major victory for Satan. When we discard the Savior’s name, we are subtly disregarding all that Jesus Christ did for us—even His Atonement.”

But there’s another reason why we should intentionally use and say His name regularly: His name has power.

In a 2019 address to seminary and institute teachers, Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, “Try just saying the name 'Jesus Christ' in a perilous setting with one who has lost hope. Just calling upon Him by name, with reverence, can make a difference in a difficult moment.”

This is something we’ve experienced for ourselves and today we’re talking about it.

Thank you for listening — and we hope you’ll talk about Jesus more after you do!

39- Sometimes it’s hard to feel God’s love. Even though He DOES always love us — more than we can comprehend — our human thoughts and feelings often get in the way. (Not to mention the adversary.)

If, like us, you sometimes struggle or are currently struggling to feel that love, this episode is for you.

38 - We recently had the opportunity to speak at a youth fireside for the first time together — and it was a great experience! Our topic was the 2023 youth theme: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Today, we’re sharing our recording from that fireside, which mainly focuses on one specific way we can find the divine strength we need from Him.

From Palm Sunday to Good Friday, a lot changed.

People went from shouting “Hosanna!” and laying their garments at Jesus’ feet to yelling “Crucify him!” and spitting in His face.

Why?

He was the Messiah — but not the one they wanted.

They wanted the Jesus who fed them fish and bread. The one who healed the sick and lame. The one who would certainly lead them out of bondage from Roman rule.

But that wasn’t what He came to do. He came to free them from a much bigger chain: death and hell.

In this episode, Jason and Allison talk about “the Jesus we really need” — and how Easter is the perfect time to remember that, through Him, anything is possible.

35 - Every single one of us has (or will) go through heart-wrenching trials that will make us question what we really believe. If God loves us, why would He let awful, unfair things happen? How could so much suffering be part of His plan of happiness?

We don't pretend to have all the answers and we certainly don't want to downplay the heartache and pain that anyone might be going through. Some trials really are "infuriatingly unfair." You might wonder if God is really there or if He cares about you at all.

Though it might not feel like it, we believe these are the moments when heaven is sending out concourses of angels on your behalf. If you're currently dealing with something difficult, this podcast won't fix everything for you — but we hope it points you toward the One who can.

34 - In a 2013 talk, Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “The thing about truth is that it exists beyond belief. It is true even if nobody believes it.”

All of us have a responsibility to seek truth in this life. The scriptures teach, “you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

But it can be hard to discern between real truth and things that may be only partially true — or even blatantly false.

Today, we’re going to talk about what truth is, why it matters and how searching for it is worth every effort.

We hope it encourages you to follow “the way, the TRUTH and the life” Himself: Jesus.

33 - How do we mark ourselves as followers of Jesus Christ, and what does that have to do with being anointed with consecrated olive oil?

32 - In case it was hard to tell, we’re pretty passionate about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe He lives. He loves us. He knows our pains, sorrows, sins and weaknesses. He wants to help us. He brings out the best in us. He can work miracles in our lives.

But coming to know Him takes effort — and the adversary would rather you didn’t even try. Contentment, complacency and apathy are some of his most effective weapons for keeping us away from the source of all Truth and light.

If your faith is feeling a little dim, we have some ideas on how to fan the flames.

31 - In 2018, President Russell M. Nelson said, “We’re witnesses to a process of restoration. …If you think the Church has been fully restored, you’re just seeing the beginning. There is much more to come. … Wait till next year. And then the next year. Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It’s going to be exciting.”

Some of those exciting changes include updates to temple ceremonies that we believe are pointing us even more toward Christ.

Today, we’re sharing our recent experience in the Bountiful Temple — and why we think you should schedule an appointment ASAP.

29 - In 2017, President Russell M. Nelson said, "... I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day, even the gripping plague of pornography and other mind-numbing addictions."

In this episode, Jason & Allison discuss how this book of scripture, "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" has impacted their lives for the better and made good on that promise from President Nelson.

28 - Have you ever felt weighed down by your own weakness? Does it sometimes feel like nothing is going right despite your best efforts? Do you beat yourself up for your mistakes? If so, we’re right there with you. (It’s been one of those weeks. Just listen to the sound quality of this episode!)

When the shame attacks hit, it helps to remember a popular verse in the Book of Mormon:

“And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” (Ether 12:27)

Tune in to today’s episode as we dive deeper into the soul-stretching process of confronting our personal demons/weaknesses — and how the Lord helps us do it.

27 - In his job as a seminary teacher, Jason has had the privilege of teaching thousands of incredible teenagers over the years — but today’s guest might be responsible for single-handedly inspiring him to stick with it when he almost jumped ship.

We got to sit down with Maddy La Fleur, a former Brighton seminary student/current institute student of Jason’s whose preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil very soon and…WOW. Trust us when we tell you that her story is going to blow your mind.

Maddy talks about what it was like taking her little brothers to church by herself as a young teenager (a decision that would ultimately lead her own parents back into church activity), her deep love of the temple, and her abiding faith in Jesus Christ. She shares her spiritual highs and lows and reminds us all that “we’re never alone.” We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

25 - Please join us this week as we welcome a very special guest: Maddy Fisher! Maddy is a former Brighton High School seminary student and has also been attending Jason’s weekly institute class.
