Photographers Naomi He-Ji & Jowi Len noticed how particularly people of South and Southeast Asian descent (including themselves) experience the flush. An allergic reaction caused by a missing enzyme which can lead to a reddening of the face, bloodshot eyes and a general feeling of discomfort, after consuming alcohol. They decided to document the flush reaction to increase representation and discourse around the allergy. Capturing the effects through portraits and highlighting stories through podcasts, chatting to their models around themes such as, family, their relationship to alcohol and how they connect to both Asian and Western culture.
