Time for Benito's #WhoAreTheyPhilippines reward giving!

A few hours after the payout, and assisted by @discoveringarni, we went back to his place to hand over the money. The week before, during the interview, when asked what he would do with the money, Benito answered that he would buy rice. We decided to do that for him and added an extra 5kg bag of rice to his reward.

Benito wasn't surprised to see me again. After all, I did promise that I would be back a week later. Because it was raining, we gathered inside his hut where we were quickly joined by his daughter and a flock of kids. Even though he is not very expressive, it was obvious that he was happy and thankful.

On Sunday afternoon I went back to her place to hand over the money. Two of my biker friends decided to join me for the ride. As we arrived at her place, Elma was coming back from her rice field where she was trying to scare away the birds.

Here is a picture of Elma with the reward in her hands. In the video, I said Php 2,600 as I gave her the money, but there was actually Php2,660.

Just like most of the #WATP features before her, she's not showing much emotions but she was nonetheless very happy with her reward. She was planning to use it to buy vegetables and fish to complement the rice they have.

Yesterday afternoon I went back to his place to hand over the money. A friend of mine accompanied me for the journey and helped me with filming. We were welcomed by his eldest daughter Jody-Ann and Norito, who was in the adjacent field working, joined us soon after.

He is not showing much emotions because I believe he was still trying to understand what was happening and whether or not it was real. He was very thankful nonetheless, and so was the rest of his family. As of today, that amount is the highest I have ever handed over to 1 person and is equivalent to about 10+ days of work for a non skilled worker in the local area, so it is definitely a great help for him and his family.

Hello everyone! @romeskie here again, last week's guest presenter for #whoaretheyphilippines. Every week, @whoaretheyph features different persons randomly selected by @iamyohann, and the post payout, together with the contributions accumulated from the contributors are handed over to the featured person. @ybanezkim has also made a guest feature where he featured Ate Bitiliana. Last week, I brought #whoaretheyph to Taguig City, Metro Manila featuring Kuya Arjay, the buko vendor.

On the new format of @whoaretheyph, the feature is posted on Tuesday morning and the turnover video on Friday morning. I received the email with the details for Arjay's reward on Tuesday morning but since Arjay only stays on his spot until 12 noon, I went to his stall the following morning.

Here is Arjay receiving his reward. Behind him is the Christmas themed paper bag containing the books that my little girl prepared for Arjay's 3-year-old kid. I must say @iamyohann is doing an amazing job capturing everything from the interviews to the reward handover. I felt really awkward during the turn over because of the customers looking at us while we were talking which made me forget a lot of details (like turning the camera back on to record the turn over).

Arjay was very much happy and thankful behind his facemask. It started drizzling a little bit when I got to his shop so I had to cut the visit short.

This is @ybanezkim26, guest presenter of last week's feature of #whoaretheyphilippines. As many of you have been aware by now, there will be a feature every week and whatever is the accumulated amount from the feature post and from your contributions will be turned over to the featured person a week after. I was honored to feature Ate Bitiliana last week and it's time to present to you the turnover of the reward.

Before the turnover, I would like to reiterate the new format which was just rolled out last week. The payout is usually included in the latest feature and the video will be posted a few days later, but it was decided that the turnover of the reward post will be separated from the feature post. The video and the turnover will be posted together which made more sense.

Anyway, it's time for Ate Bitiliana's reward.

Ate Bitiliania, the Malunggay and Lemongrass Seller, was featured in WATP #11. The payout of the feature was Sunday morning. Laarni (@discoveringarni) immediately emailed me the total amount which was converted into Philippine peso. The night before, we already agreed with @iamyohann that I will just use my own money for the turnover and he would just send me the total HIVE and HBD on Sunday night as reimbursement.

The total amount converted was Php 1,060.00, but Laarni emailed me again that because of the discrepancy of the conversion at Coingecko, it was actually Php 1,065.00 when rounded up.

Our agreement with Ate Bitiliana was that I would be back on Sunday at around the same time when I had an interview with her. So, I decided to prepare at around 4:00 PM and went immediately to Lovers at around 4:30 PM. I saw her harvesting malunggay, lemongrass, and a sponge gourd. She said it would be for their dinner. Watch the video for the details.

What struck me was when I asked her what would she use the money for. She answered that she would buy medicine for her eyes. She said it was cataract. I didn't ask further for the details, but she was very thankful for the amount she received.

Please don't mind my awkwardness in the video. It was my first time to do something like that. Maybe I'll detail everything about my perspective in a post, but for now, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to those who continue their support for the project. I hope you'll be blessed in everything that you do. Your contributions have gone a long way to help on random person in need.

As you are all aware by now, every week, a person is featured and a week later, they receive the HBD post payout along with contributions from some of you.

Usually, the payout is included with the latest feature and the video is posted a couple of days later. From now on, the hand over of the reward will be separate from the feature post and will instead be included with the reward video.

Hello #Hive,

A couple of days ago, I made my way back to Barangay Santa Cruz in Ronda, Cebu, Philippines to see Alfredo and hand him over the payout reward as well as contributions.

As I arrived, he was with one of his friends enjoying a chat with a few glasses of Kulafu.

Thanks to your upvotes and contributions, I was able to give him PHP955 which he said he would use for rice and food.

I'm sorry about the wind noise at the end of the video, I didn't think about it when I recorded at the time.

This is @discoveringarni for the video of Trinidad's reward.

Last Saturday, we went to see Trinidad. Unfortunately, Trining was preoccupied with work, so we only got to meet her for a few minutes to give her her reward.

This was my first vlog and the whole WATP experience was great. Sorry for the shaky footage.

Anyway, it was nice seeing Trining again and she was happy with her reward. The total amount that she has received is equivalent to at least 3 days of work. This is considering an average salary of Php 250 to Php 300 per day for a laundrywoman.

Originally, the idea was to post the rewards video as well as the WATP statistics at a 100% Hive power payout to grow this account and start helping other authors with an upvote, even if it is a low value one.

Thanks to @viking-ventures and @iamraincrystal for their hive power delegation, this account has already started upvoting posts by following @hiveph curation trail as well as upvoting posts from all the people who have contributed HBD5.00 or more to this initiative.

A few days ago, @ybanezkim26 contacted me and suggested that it would be great if we could have a minimum payout for the features. The last few #WhoAreTheyPhilippines posts have received a lot of upvotes as well as contributions, so the rewards have been generous. But what happens when a future feature doesn't get an upvote from a whale Hiver, which usually makes the difference, or there aren't many contributions? After thinking about it for a day, I agreed with Kim and decided that the video and statistic posts will both have a 50%-50% payout and the HBD value will kept in the wallet for this case scenario. We agreed that in case a reward is less than PHP500 (local currency), the HBDs in the wallet will be used to make the difference. So starting this week with Trinidad, every person featured on #WATP will receive a minimum of PHP500.

Also, 2 days, ago, @viking-ventures, through a comment, made me realize that I should be clearer about what the amount received means to the people. His words:

"One thing that would be really helpful in the write-ups is to tell us how much money that is to them... i.e. compared to a weekly/monthly wage..."

This was my answer, related to Claudia & Rosalina's reward:

"Considering that salaries can go from php250 to php350 per day for non skilled workers in the province area where we are, this would be a good 3 days worth for them. That is when they are able to find work, which at the moment, because of Covid19, is very rare."

From now on, I will try, as long as it is not awkward or taboo with them, to ask more about what the amount means to them and relay this information in the reward post.

Now, about Claudia & Rosalina's reward

First I'd like to thank @scubahead for lending me his camera as mine has definitely given up on me. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, it played a few tricks on me while I was presenting the reward and contributors' list to both ladies and I didn't realize it wasn't recording until a bit later. So we are missing that part.

I have to be honest with you all, I was looking forward to their reaction receiving PHP965 each because I know it is a good amount and great help for them, but I was a bit disappointed as they didn't show much emotion. I was actually wondering if it made them happy. They did however say thank you. Maybe I was expecting too much after Kris' reaction last week.

It was however a very successful feature with a high post payout and a lot of contributions from you all. So a big thank you to everyone who participated in it.

Next will be Trinidad. @discoveringarni will be going to see her on Saturday morning to give her the reward and film it. Until then, if you haven't done so already, please upvote her feature.

Hello Hive,

A few days ago, I went to see Kris to give her the payout reward from her feature on Hive along with contributions from generous Hivers.

I filmed the entire process but unfortunately my camera failed to record the sound properly and I ended up with a loud buzzing sound instead.

Kris' reaction was great to witness so I decided to make this video with a voice over to share with you. I still smile watching her receiving the money.
