When life looks like a loss on every line item, faith can feel naïve. Habakkuk 3 rejects that kind of shallow optimism and offers something sturdier: a prayer that tells the truth about pain while still choosing to trust. We wrap up our From Turmoil to Trust season by finishing the book of Habakkuk and sitting with the tension every believer knows: trouble is real, and God is still God.
We read from Habakkuk 3 and slow down on the way the prophet ends his book: not with one more argument, but with a song of prayer. That framing matters. Prayer becomes the bookmark that holds the whole story together, from uncertainty to assurance. Along the way, we talk about revival as “bringing back to life,” the kind of inner restart you need when you’re bruised, exhausted, or stuck in the same cycle again. Some warnings in the Bible feel ancient until you hear them with today’s headlines playing in the background. We keep walking through Habakkuk and land in Habakkuk 2:15-20 (NIV), where God calls out exploitation, humiliation, violence, and the quiet cruelty of people using others for personal gain. If you’ve been carrying anger, grief, or plain exhaustion about what’s happening in the world, we sit with a steady truth: there is an expected end. God sees oppression, corruption, and misuse of power, and none of it gets the final word.
From there, we turn the spotlight inward with a tough question: are we trusting dead things or the living God? Idolatry is not only carved statues. It can be money, pride, greed, status, and anything we treat as ultimate. We also talk plainly about modern spiritual substitutes that promise “guidance” but have no breath in them.
We also shift our posture toward people who are far from God. Scripture reminds us we’re not only wrestling with flesh and blood, so we don’t lead with condemnation. We lead with compassion, courage, and gentle teaching, drawing from 2 Timothy 2 and the call to instruct without quarreling. We close with Habakkuk 2:20, a grounding reminder that the Lord is in His holy temple and all the earth is silent before Him.

Evil can look unstoppable when you’re doing everything “right” and still getting hit from every side. I’m Bobi Gentry Goodwin, and I’m walking us back into Habakkuk with one focused verse that hits like a blueprint for hard seasons: Habakkuk 2:1. When the world feels loud, unfair, and spiritually foggy, Habakkuk shows us a different response than panic, numbness, or revenge.
We talk about why suffering feels so personal even though it touches everyone, and why bringing your complaints to God is not weakness, it’s wisdom. What do you do when justice feels frozen and your prayers echo back in silence? We open season ten by sitting with Habakkuk, a “minor” prophet with a majorly relevant question: how long? Instead of preaching at the crowd, Habakkuk takes his complaint straight to God, and that bold move becomes our model for honest faith in a noisy, anxious age.
A central thread is timing. Habakkuk’s “how long” meets our own delays—dreams deferred, healing that lingers, change that creeps. Waiting can feel like neglect, yet Scripture reframes it as formation. From Abraham and Sarah to the early church, endurance stretches our capacity for joy and steadies us for what’s next. Rather than run to pundits and quick fixes, we practice running to God with our questions and our ache. That posture keeps the door open for revelation we can’t manufacture.
We close by pairing Habakkuk with Romans 8: creation groans, and so do we, but the groan is a birth pain, not a dead end. The lights are bright, the lists are longer, and yet something in us still aches for a quieter center. On Christmas Eve, we press pause on our regular series and lean into a short but piercing psalm—Psalm 131—to find a perspective that steadies the heart. Not a lecture, but a living-room moment: kids, tape, laughter, and the sudden clarity that presence beats performance and worship beats worry.
We dig into the psalm’s core image of a weaned child—calm, content, and anchored—not because life is easy, but because trust has grown. That picture reframes the season. When the holiday laughter fades and the room gets quiet again, the old aches return: bills, diagnoses, strained friendships, the gnawing sense that you’re pushing hard and sliding back. We go there with Psalm 31 and let David show us how to live honestly in the tension—naming pain without pretending and trusting God without numbing.
We start with the emotional drop that follows celebration and move into David’s raw inventory of grief, loneliness, and exhaustion. The Damascus road encounter that transformed Saul from Christianity's fiercest opponent into its greatest champion reveals profound truths about belief, divine intervention, and spiritual transformation that resonate with us today.
When we meet Saul in Acts 9, he's breathing murderous threats against Christians, so passionate about his Jewish faith that he's willing to imprison anyone following "the Way." Armed with letters from religious authorities, he embarks on a mission to Damascus to arrest believers. Then something extraordinary happens – Jesus himself interrupts Saul's journey with a blinding light and a piercing question: "Why are you persecuting me?"
What makes this story particularly remarkable is how God transforms Saul's passionate personality rather than erasing it. The same fervor once directed against Christians becomes redirected toward spreading the gospel. What does it really mean to claim your spiritual inheritance? In this powerful opening to Season 8, we explore the remarkable journey of James, son of Zebedee, from ordinary fisherman to extraordinary apostle.
When Jesus approached James and John on their father's fishing boat, they immediately dropped their nets and followed Him. This radical response changed the trajectory of their lives forever.
