Taliban lay out rules for protesters. The interim Taliban government has issued a set of conditions for protests. According to the conditions for protests issued by the Taliban Ministry of Interior, demonstrators will have to secure prior permission from the Taliban Ministry of Justice before holding a protest. In addition, the demonstrators will also have to furnish the purpose, slogans, place, time and details of the protest with Taliban authorities at least 24 hours before the demonstration. The statement issued on Wednesday also said that anyone found in violation of the conditions will face legal action. Former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, who fled to the UAE before the Taliban seized power last month, on Wednesday apologised to the people for leaving the country abruptly, saying he believed it was the “only way to keep the guns silent and save Kabul and her six million people.” #LifeInAfghanistanUnderTaliban

Cecilio Pineda was an investigative journalist, reporter from Mexico. He was murdered on March 2, 2017. Just a few weeks before he was killed, Pineda’s work cell phone was selected as a target of an NSO client in Mexico.

Forbidden Stories has been able to confirm that not just Pineda, but also the state prosecutor who investigated the case, Xavier Olea Pelaez, were selected as targets of Pegasus in the weeks and months before his murder. Forbidden Stories was unable to analyze Pineda’s phone because it disappeared immediately after his death. Pelaez did not keep his phone from the time, so it was not possible to confirm an infection by Pegasus.

Pineda’s reporting, however, gives traces as to why Pineda’s work could have troubled Mexican authorities who may have had access to this technology. At the time of his selection, Pineda was investigating links between the local crime boss, known as El Tequilero, and the governor of the state of Guerrero, Hector Astudillo. Friends and family who spoke with The Pegasus Project partners said that Pineda had received threats and had asked to be placed in a federal mechanism for the protection of journalists.

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts bill is a proposed act of the UK parliament that will give more power the police and criminal justice system and sentencing legislation, etc in UK. The bill is sponsored by the Home office and the state secretary of state for the Home Department, Priti Patel.

The provisions of 300 pages long bill extend to England and Wales, although some provisions apply to Scotland and Northern Ireland. The bill has been introduced in response to the 2019 XR climate demonstrations in London.

This bill proposes many controversial provisions about how to protest that threatens the Right to Protest of any UK citizen.

  1. Police chiefs will be able to put more conditions on static protests. 2. They will be able to Impose a start & finish time of the protests, thus people will have no choice about when they will end protests.

  2. Set Noise Limits. British broadcaster and writer Kenan Malik warned the bill reduced the right to protest to “Whispering in the corner”.

·       Apply these rules to a demonstration by just one person.

They could be fined up to € 2500, if they refused to follow police directions over how they should conduct their protest. So, this is how future protests are going to look like in UK.

Who’s happy with the Bill?

The Bill was welcomed by the Police Federation of England and Wales. Home office minister Victoria Atkins said “the act ‘updates’ the public order act and drew a distinction between peaceful protests and activities which inhibit the lives of people”. Ministers and police have defended the bill saying they were needed to tackle demonstrations such as the ones by Extinction Rebellion (XR) in 2019, where mass occupation of  roads & bridges in London and made the police system completely paralyzed.

Women Rights Group Views on the Bill ➡️ Rights of Women, a campaign group says the bill fails to introduce long- called- for measures that could reduce violence against women’s & girls. However, the government says that other parts of the legislation toughen sentencing for serious violent and sexual offences. What are 2019 XR Climate Demonstrations?

In April 2019, Extinction Rebellion held a large demonstration in London. Over the course of 11 days, some of the city's busiest routes were brought to a standstill.

The action resulted in more than 1,100 arrests - most on suspicion of not following police instructions to move.

Dumna is home to 57 of the 422 mammal species found in Indian Subcontinent, which is 13.5% of the total species. Dumna Nature Reserve(DNR) in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur area is a well-preserved ecological habitat in an urban area. It is spread over 1,000 hectares and has rich wildlife with a history of nearly 150 years of conservation. However, it is increasingly facing threats from various projects including a tiger safari, a road, an institute that are being proposed or cleared in and around it. A group of biologists, environmentalists and wildlife experts have now filed several public interest litigations to halt all such plans. The petitioners argue that if allowed, projects such as tiger safari would increase footfall in the reserve which would negatively impact Dumna and its wildlife, while also increasing chances of human-wildlife conflict. Spread over hundreds of hectares and home to a rich variety of wildlife, the Dumna Nature Reserve (DNR) in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur area, is being threatened by a series of projects with the latest being a tiger safari, aimed at promoting tourism to the area. However, there is an ongoing movement to keep the reserve undisturbed and at least three public interest litigations (PILs) have been filed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court for this. Dumna is among the most well preserved ecological habitats in an urban area and it is also a catchment area for the Khandari Lake which is an important source of drinking water supply to the city. This reserve and the adjoining forest areas have a history of nearly 150 years of conservation. Over the years, the reserve that also acts as the lungs of the city has evolved as a well-preserved ecological habitat. It has a population of nine leopards, more than 2,000 deer, host of other wildlife such as cheetal, barking deer, four-horned antelope, jungle cat, Asiatic wild cat, wild boar, crocodile and more than 300 species of birds (both migrant and resident). According to the PILs, the park boasts of diverse ecosystems – woodlands, grasslands and wetlands. etc. Over the past few years, a series of projects have been proposed or cleared in the area and its surroundings, threatening its future. Anshuman Singh, a lawyer who has filed two such PILs in the MP High Court arguing that the proposal to establish the tiger safari is arbitrary and illegal, explained to Mongabay-India that it is not the just the future of the DNR that is at stake but also of those living around it. Originally, Dumna was spread over 1,000 hectares (about 2,500 acres) but now it is spread in an area of about 1800 acres. “This place has had a history of 150 years of conservation and has flourished over time developing itself into an entirely self-sustained and beautiful ecosystem. But now the difficulty is that the administration looks upon this land as a land parcel which can be utilised for various purposes and it comes up time and again with various schemes. Years ago, 100 hectares were given for the Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing and now a tiger safari and several other projects for non-forestry purposes are being proposed,” said Singh. He revealed that there are proposals to allot a large tract of land “from the area just outside nature park but within the conserved ecosystem” to the railways for construction of their offices, another piece of land to tourism corporation for an institute, another land parcel for development of a convention centre or a hotel, for an IT park and lastly an international cricket stadium. Apart from the convention centre proposal, all other projects are led by government agencies. “In our petition, we have argued that the land of Dumna is specified as a city forest in the notified city development plan of Jabalpur – it means this is a place that is reserved for plantation and it is specifically mentioned that physical development in this area would be detrimental to the Jabalpur city. Despite this, the projects just keep on coming and strategically the land use is also being changed to make it easier to divert for non-forestr
