Just a wise old lady sharing her faith and most likely unsolicited advice. Here you have an opportunity to take it or leave it! In the Bible, us older women are given some instructions and I am blessed to have time to be obedient. (Titus 2)
Most of my recordings are done while I am on a walk. It’s where I do my best thinking...and frankly I love to think out loud! At the start of this podcast, I am 62 years old. I am Oma to 5 grandchildren. I will share my testimony, my faith, my opinions which are hopefully grounded in God’s Word. He is still working on me...changing me from the inside out.
As seniors, we often have more time to scroll through social media. Combine that with the rapid changes in the world, and it can be tempting to hit “share” without thinking. But not everything online is true. In this episode of Oma’s Musings, Kathy shares why seniors are especially vulnerable to spreading misinformation, why credibility matters, and how family members can help loved ones who may be confused online. Learn how to slow down, fact-check, and become a trustworthy voice in a noisy world.
Welcome to Oma’s Musings—a cozy space where life slows down, faith runs deep, and the clutter (both physical and emotional) begins to clear. I’m Kathy—wife, mom, Oma, and now navigating this beautifully messy season of retirement.

In this episode of Oma’s Musings, I share how letting my husband take on more decision-making has brought me peace, contentment, and freedom in my senior years. From planning an RV show trip to everyday choices like meals and dog care, I’ve discovered the joy of letting go.I also share a list from ChatGPT of other areas women can release control—everything from meal planning to family expectations—and how doing so helps us breathe a little easier. And most importantly, I reflect on how faith reminds us that we don’t need to fix everything. We can pray, trust God, and let Him guide the outcomes.👉 Download The Let Go List printable here: https://omasmusings.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Let_Go_List_Checklist.pdf

At my stage of life, decluttering is easier—it’s just me, my husband, and our two pups. But for young moms? Between kids, schoolwork, jobs, and never-ending laundry, the idea of decluttering can feel impossible. In this episode, I’m talking about the biggest things that hold moms back from getting started—like overwhelm, guilt, and perfectionism—and simple ways to break through them. Decluttering won’t make your life perfect, but it will make it more manageable, save money, free up time, and help you enjoy your kids before they’re grown.

In this episode of Oma’s Musings, I’m getting honest about something many of us feel but rarely say out loud: I’m over cooking. I never loved it to begin with, and now that I’m older, I’m fully embracing simpler meals, less stress, and letting go of the pressure to plan perfect meals every week. I also share how time-consuming and expensive it’s become to try to eat healthy in today’s economy—and why it’s okay to do things differently in this season of life. If you’re in the same boat, grab a cup of something cozy and let’s talk about it.

In this personal update, I open up about how my life has shifted since my daughter’s cancer diagnosis—emotionally, spiritually, and practically. I share the unexpected peace that came from letting go of the need to "swoop in" and instead just being available. I talk about the tension between wanting to help and learning to respect boundaries, the emotional toll of clutter in someone else’s space, and what it means to slow down and stay close in case I’m needed. If you’ve ever felt torn between doing and being—this one's for you.

In this heartfelt episode of Oma’s Musings, Kathy shares a voice note she recorded during a hot, humid walk years ago—and reflects on how the message still rings true today. What started as a daily habit of walking with Jesus turned into a sacred rhythm of worship, prayer, and self-discipline.
But life changes. Injuries happen. Motivation fades. And yet... the why remains.
Kathy opens up about how she’s learning to keep showing up—even if the pace is slower, even if the season looks different. With honesty and grace, she encourages us to revisit our goals, lean into our “whys,” and give ourselves permission to start again.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about faithfulness.
Whether you’re walking, praying, or pursuing a new habit—this episode will inspire you to keep going.

Trying something new takes courage. Letting go when it no longer fits takes wisdom. In this episode, I reflect on my own journey—stepping into new experiences, exploring different paths, and learning that quitting doesn’t mean failure.
I’ve tried leadership, crafting, running, blogging—even different churches. Some things stuck, some didn’t. And that’s okay. God often redirects us in ways we don’t expect, and sometimes, the best thing we can do is trust His guidance.
So if you’ve ever worried about walking away from something, know this: Growth comes in both the starting and the stopping. Trying makes you brave. Learning makes you wiser. And every step—whether forward or back—is part of the journey.

In this episode of Oma’s Musings, I open up about what it’s been like helping my daughter as she walks through her cancer journey. We live very different lives—and that includes our clutter thresholds. What feels like too much for me is her everyday normal, and that’s okay. This conversation is a gentle reminder that love isn’t about control—it’s about compassion. Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is ask how to help and let go of what we think “should” be done.
Tune in for a heartfelt reflection on grace, seasons of life, and how to show up for those we love without trying to fix them.

When these containers become overstuffed, it's a sign that we need to declutter each one and acknowledge that we might have too much stuff.

I am granting permission today to keep empty drawers in our house. Our homes are filled with furniture and built-ins that contain drawers. We do not have to fill them! It is acceptable to have empty drawers. This is particularly helpful for our loved ones when they are tasked with clearing out our homes when God calls us home.I have also found it beneficial to categorize similar items while emptying drawers. This method enabled me to ascertain the quantity of pencils, pens, sharpies, batteries, and similar objects I possess, which in turn helps me avoid unnecessary purchases.Speaking of parents going to Heaven, please be sure to watch my video on having a Just in Case of Emergency document. https://youtu.be/O0LWiexaoD4You can purchase it here in my Etsy Shop: https://omasmusings.etsy.com/listing/1681469731My website: https://omasmusings.comMy Etsy Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OmasMusingsMy Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/omasmusingsMy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/omasmusingsMy Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/omasmusingsMy X: https://x.com/OmasMusingsReferral link to open an Etsy shop:If you use my referral link to open your Etsy shop, you’ll get 40 free listings, and so will I!Here’s the link: https://etsy.me/3Voaj3n

Have you ever had the urge to hit reset on something? You know how we can hit reset on our computers when our computers are locked up or frozen? We hit control alt delete on a PC or force quit on a Mac. It kind of resets things and then we can start all over again. We have the option of putting things back to their default settings, too.

Today is Good Friday and feeling so grateful for what it represents. I am so unworthy of what He did for me. Are you afraid to talk about Jesus? Are you a “Peter”?
1 Thessalonians 2 tells us that if God wants us to do something, He will give us the strength and boldness to do it.
Do you ever hesitate to share Jesus with anyone because of insufficiency? Titus 2 has some instruction for older women, but sometimes us older women don't heed to this instruction because we think what we have to offer isn't enoug. But remember the account of the loaves and fishes in Matthew 14. Listen to how I relate the Titus 2 with Matthew 14.
Addiction. Examining my life today. What is it that I can’t live without? What consumes my thoughts when I can’t have it?
If you died today, would you go to Heaven? If your answer is yes, how can you be sure? If your answer is no, why not?
Who doesn’t love when they hear that prayer has been answered. How many times have you gave God a request, but forgot to check back to see if He answered? Did you remember to give Him the glory even in the seemingly small requests? Listen in and hear how God listened and answered on two of my prayers. He is good!
Today I am sharing with you what my mom had written a while back. She wanted this read this at her funeral.

So on my hour walk talking about how PTSD has affected me. In no way does it compare to what those first responders experience, but it's real.

Today's Bible Verse inspired me to record a podcast. It's been a while, I know!
“Get rid of all hard feelings, anger and rage. Stop all fighting and lying. Don’t have anything to do with any kind of hatred. Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive one another, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.”

So we all have those people on our Facebook feeds that just infuriate us. But the thing is why do they infuriate us? Is it really them or is it something going on inside of us? Are you willing to search your own heart? Tough isn’t it! But oh so freeing!

In today’s episode I will talk about how God answers my cries to Him when I am prayer journaling. I think one day I was concerned about what people think and I started talking to God about it in my prayer journal and I was amazed at how quickly He brought to mind what He wanted to tell me. There is so much to be said about prayer journaling.
