In the last message, we studied how man has intentionally rejected God and as a result, man is under the judgement of God. The most logical question is how we can be rescued.
The only way to be rescued is to receive the righteousness of God - a right standing before the Lord in purity and holiness. In this message, we will study Romans 3:21-24 and learn three important things about the righteousness of God.
- Righteousness is not found in legalistic living.

In this message, we'll take a look at Paul's defense before an angry mob and array of Roman soldiers. In the midst of accusations and assumptions, Paul shares his testimony. There were three elements to his testimony.

All churches have problems. It's true in our day and it was true in Paul's day during the time of Acts. Looking at Acts 21, we'll break our time into three sections:
- The Problem
- The Question
- The Solution
We would be wise to remember Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 9. He said, "I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings."

Paul's missionary journeys continue and as we open to Acts 21, we'll follow the timeline of events through three different sections:
- When the journey gets complicated (1-3)
- When good people distract from greater things (4-6)
- When it will have a high or uncertain cost (7-16)
Paul had a conviction to continue on despite the trouble that lie ahead. A conviction is Holy Spirit direction that always aligns with God's Word. While his heart was broken, he was ready to set an example of how to obey God's leading.

We live in a world that chooses to remain bitter instead of offering pardon. But that is not what Jesus commanded.
Our final message in The Butterfly Effect series is entitled Forgiveness. Let's think through two main ideas:
- An incalculable debt. An unforgettable forgiveness.
- The absurdity of unforgiveness. The prison of punishment.
As we look to Jesus, we can hold fast to a few things. We must remember how much we've been forgiven. We should take inventory of a lack of forgiveness in our lives. We can choose to forgive even if others do not accept it.

Over the summer we'll study about how seemingly small acts and decisions that we make today can have a vast impact on our future and the future of others. We're calling this new series The Butterfly Effect.
Today, we're looking at this biblical ideas of sowing and reaping. There are three main principles we'll discuss:
- We reap what we sow
- We reap more than we sow
- We reap later than we sow
Galatians 6:8 says, "For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life."
We must start planting seeds of the Spirit today so that in due season, we can reap the rewards from our Good Father!

Application abounds at the beginning of Acts 20. As Paul continues his missionary journey with the hope of providing encouragement to surrounding churches, we'll focus on five key ideas:
- The people gathered together on Sunday
- They used the space they had
- There was a biblical teaching by a sacrificial leader
- The people were undeterred by circumstances
- They enjoyed a meal together
We can also note the characteristics of exhortation, persistence and sacrifice from Paul and his group in the middle of this episode. It's important to recognize their aim of being available for the encouragement and benefit of these churches and the people within them.
All throughout the New Testament, we witness Paul's joy in providing gospel truth to those he visits. May the same be true of us!

A "dissension and debate" arise as we open to Acts 15. The journey of Paul and Barnabas continues and we'll observe three things from the text:

Legalists believe salvation is faith + works, but as true believers we know salvation is by faith + grace. We must remind ourselves that salvation is not spelled D-O, as if we could add anything to what Christ already accomplished. Rather, we can spell it D-O-N-E because of the perfect work of Jesus Christ.

In verse 15, the rulers of the synagogue tell Paul that if he has any encouragement to give those in attendance, he can speak. The verses that follow show that Paul was prepared to drop a gospel seed, even if it wasn't the reason he was there. We too should be believers always ready to offer encouragement to others by presenting the gospel.

As we flip to Acts chapter 12, we want to keep this truth in mind: stealing God's glory will never end well for us.
The text explores the way Herod attempts to do this and we observe this with two specific points:
1) The slippery slope from stealing God's glory
2) The impact left from stealing God's glory
Herod believes he can steal God's glory and allows others to worship him. But we see that the sin inside rots away at him. In the end, God will always receive the glory due His name.

Our text in Acts 11 uses the term Christian to describe the disciples in Antioch, the first recorded use of the term in Scripture. We'll focus on three points from verses 19-30 that surround this labeling:
1) God's unusual plans accomplish his purposes
2) God's unashamed people disrupt conventional culture
3) God's unique prophecy unified the church
It's amazing to reflect on how God uses what man intends for evil to accomplish His will. The stoning of Stephen (Acts 7) forces the church to scatter. As the persecuted church scatters, they take the gospel with them, teaching those they come in contact with. Because "the hand of the Lord was with them, a great number who believed turned to the Lord" (v 21).

Our sermon series on the fruit of the Spirit is nearing a close as we look at gentleness. We define gentleness and discuss its value. Furthermore, we zoom in on three ways believers can be known for gentleness, including the need to:
1) Run to righteousness
2) Flee foolish fighting
3) Correct with compassion
We must remember that God is our greatest example of gentleness. We have the high privilege of seeking Him day by day, asking that He would conform our hearts to respond and dwell in His gentleness.

Jump back into Galatians 5 and join us as we meditate on the fruit of joy. As we think about what it means to be joyful, we can key in on three main ingredients:
The base ingredient to spiritual joy is salvation
The activating ingredient to spiritual joy is obedience

We begin our deep dive into each individual fruit of the Spirit today. Turning to Galatians 5, Paul starts by addressing love. As we seek to love, we need to know how Jesus loves us first.
Jesus loves us:
With truth
Without favoritism or prejudice
By giving us grace and mercy

We're really excited to be kicking off a brand new series with today's message! These Signs of Life messages will challenge us to take a look at what our lives are all about and whether the fruit we're bearing is of the Lord, or another.
We begin in Matthew 7:15-23, the tail end of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus provides his listeners back then, and us today, with two serious warnings:
1) Do not follow false teachers
2) Do not follow your heart
Jesus doesn't mix words in this passage. We must be careful that we aren't those who simply profess the Lord as our God but have no pursuit of Him. Saying and doing are two very different things.

We're bringing our study in the book of Jonah to a conclusion. The final chapter can be split into two core thoughts during our time together:
1) A confusing but common coexistence (vs 1-5)
2) The problem of improper priorities (vs 6-11)
We must ask ourselves whether we have developed the discipline of rightly ordering our priorities in real time. It's a question Pastor Josh discusses at 32:04 in this message.

Jonah chapter three opens with a beautiful truth and it carries us through the end of the book. Overall, the third chapter can be split into three thoughts:
1) God is not done with you (vs 1-2)
2) God uses you to deliver a simple message to bring about significant change (vs 3-8)
3) God will respond to your repentance with mercy (vs 9-10)
The people of Nineveh go from great evil to a sincere repentance. It ought to remind us that God forgives to the uttermost.
First John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Having been tossed overboard from his ship and swallowed up by "a great fish," the prophet Jonah finds himself in the belly of the fish for three days. It is here that Jonah voices a prayer in chapter two. We'll split it up into two sections:
1) God listens to your prayers from the deepest valley
2) God is more interested in your rescue than your comfort

Acts chapter 10 is a beautiful display of how the gospel of Jesus Christ is for all! We read about the apostle Peter's vision in this text and can decipher three main ideas:
1) God prepares us for the greatest possibility
2) Jesus provides us with a new perspective
3) The presentation of the gospel is powerful
We must be avoid common misconceptions about the church and instead embrace some important truths. Church is: a local body of believers that we live a united life with, filled with messed up people in need of a Savior and it should reflect the make up of the surrounding community.

The Spirit uses Peter to perform a pair of miracles in our text from Acts 9 today. We can see four keys to ministry in these verses:
1) Intentionally place yourself around people and wait for God's direction
2) Believe that God can do exceedingly above all we ask or think
3) Ministry influence does not come from a title
4) Do not allow prejudice or favoritism to direct your ministry
We have to ask ourselves if we're available for the Lord to work in our lives, or just too booked up. Let's ask the Lord to reveal the people in our lives that we should begin praying for in hopes of sharing gospel truth with!

Following his conversion, the Holy Spirit begins to radically change Saul's life in Acts 9. We'll look closely at three main observations in these 20 verse:
1) We need wisdom to be watchful and welcoming of new believers
2) We need courage to communicate about Christ
3) We need characteristics of committed churches
The text showcases four characteristics that churches NEED: the peace of God, fear of the Lord, comfort of the Holy Spirit and multiplication.

Our LAUNCH series through the book of Acts progresses as we flip to chapter nine. We read here of Saul's dramatic conversion from persecutor to believer. There are three main things we learn in these first 19 verses:
1) Jesus seeks the non-seekers
2) Saul's change is clearly seen
3) The Church is a place of unlikely unions
Saul's conversion shows the potential of God's power but doesn't prescribe this exact experience to everyone. Surrendering to Christ earlier in life is a blessing that should be celebrated just as much as any dramatic conversion.

The Spirit's prompting leads to life change in this section of Acts 8. Let's hone in on three specific points as we study Philip's interaction with the Ethiopian. We should:
1) Go where He leads
2) Speak what He has spoken
3) Celebrate who He has transformed
Verses 30 & 31 say, " So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, 'Do you understand what you are reading?' And he said, 'How can I, unless someone guides me?' And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him."
As we encounter those who are younger in their faith, or just totally unaware of who Christ is, we have the distinct privilege of sharing with them the best news they can ever hear! Just like Philip, we can "tell him the good news about Jesus" (vs 35b).

We encounter a unique character and situation during our study in Acts 8:9-25. We're introduced to a man named "Simon who had previously practiced magic." Listen in as Pastor Josh hones in on three main points:
1) True salvation returns glory to its proper recipient
2) True salvation changes more than your outward actions
3) True salvation comes through repentance, not fear
And so, we recall the words Peter spoke in Acts 4:11-12 - "This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
True salvation comes through trusting in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins!

Our study through the book of Acts continues as we begin chapter eight. Pastor Josh tackles the reality of persecution among believers and draws out two key points:

We encounter a unique situation as Acts 6 begins. The disciples' example is full of wisdom and truth. We'll dwell on three points during our time:
1) The importance of avoiding unwarranted internal conflict

The Spirit-ordained results shown in verse 7 should fill us with hope, "And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many priests became obedient to the faith."

We're eagerly stepping into 2022 with the goal of living On Mission for Jesus Christ.
As we take intentional steps towards that, we're planning ahead. We're aiming to visit 3,000 neighboring homes this year, in hopes of telling others about our Jesus.
Paul calls us to "put on the whole armor of God" in Ephesians 6, so we aim to clothe ourselves with truth, Christ's righteousness, gospel readiness, faith, salvation and God's Word. In addition, we want to be a church who presents truth, pulls together and prays tirelessly.
This message is important for those both inside and outside of our Transform Church body. We pray God uses individual believers everyday to accomplish His eternal will.

As we conclude our What Matters Most series, it's important that we align our lives around the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. With Luke 3 as our anchor text, we observe two key principles:
1) The conditions in the culture made it ripe for change
2) The parallel priority for preparing the way
We must be those who warn people with the truth and live a life that backs it up. The word from Revelation 22 should echo in our lives, "He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen."

On today's sermon we discuss how Jesus reframes our focus and requires us to be his witnesses.
This requirement is clearly outlined in verse 8 when our resurrected Savior declares, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
This promise of the Holy Spirit's indwelling power is the fuels that powers gospel proclamation throughout the book of Acts.
