Effective advisors exhibit coaching skills like motivational interviewing, goal-setting, and accountability to empower students to make informed decisions. They create development plans, give feedback, and provide encouragement. However, advisors cannot control student behavior. Their role is to guide students to realize their potential. The role of the admission advisor is focused on more than just getting the students on enrollment. The real deal starts to inspire students to continue their education, as enrollment is down across the board. The common issue arises when admissions officers disregard the value of developing connections with students in order to boost dials. Degree requirements that are too complicated and appear to be unnecessary, roadblock courses, and unavailable or inconvenient courses can all create significant challenges to student success.
In this new multimodal learning environment, utilizing diverse metrics and including student voices are critical components to improving success in higher education.

During enrollment, students are on top of the priority list. In this process, the admissions team and financial aid team play the biggest role. However, a lack of collaboration and communication always gets in the way. Financial aid sources and admission requirements sometimes appear to be two very distinct things.
The key to implementing an effective enrollment strategy lies in understanding the students: their background and financial capabilities. Proper communication and collaboration between the admission team and financial aid team can increase the likelihood of ensuring students' academic success and adjusting their financial aid package accordingly, reducing the risk of the student being forced to drop out of their program.

Pursuing a passion is not always easy, but it is DEFINITELY worth it.

What is the key to enrolling quality students who will actually stick it through, despite the bumps in the road, and graduate? The most critical part of the enrollment process is The First Interview?

The pandemic has definitely shifted the way Colleges and Institutions communicate with and attract potential students. When schools were forced to close in 2020, students were "Voluntold" to take classes online.
What happens to those who learn better in the classrooms?
What if you have dyslexia, which may not be the appropriate learning environment for most?
Well, that's EXACTLY what happened to Iasia Hemingway, graduate of American Institute, and Owner of Lady i, Massage Better. Iasia didn't realize she had a learning disability until she was in college.
Question is, how did she even survive when classes transitioned to 100% online during the peek of Covid-19 WITH dyslexia?
Did she get the help she needed?
Did she pass her classes with flying colors despite her circumstances? No
Hear how Iasia Hemingway paved the way for future students who may not be the right fit for every learning environment, and how she was able to overcome, graduate and go on to start her own Massage Business...Lady i, Massage Better.
In this episode, I get to speak with my former "Right Hand," Lyndsy Frye. She is the Director of Admissions with the Institute of Medical and Business Careers. Before Lyndsy started her career in Higher Education, she was in the Navy, which is what shaped her into to who she is today.
We all know that as an Enrollment leader, discipline, time management, and having a plan are all critical to your success in this role. Hear what Lyndsy had to say about challenges and obstacles that she has to face daily in order to achieve her goals, and how she is able to overcome them.
This is your host Kathy Belletty. Today we're talking about the stuff that most folks want to avoid...Compliance and the pressure placed on your admissions teams to perform. There's no denying that Career Schools have been under scrutiny for decades upon decades, but we need to ask ourselves WHY?
Was it because of fudging placement numbers, stealing aka "tiefin," (in my Bajan accent) financial aid funds? Could it be our Admissions Departments? Hmmmm.
Here's the deal, sometimes it may feel like your Advisors AND Enrollment Directors are constantly losing the battle, because they may be given unrealistic and unattainable expectations.
If they do NOT meet those expectations, their jobs may be on the line.
Here's what happens in most cases. Your advisors end up feeling pressured to meet those unattainable expectations without a clear plan, they get sloppy and then "SHOPPED," and guess what? They end up on the "chopping block" anyway...so what can we do to avoid this?
Should Enrollment Directors be given the same or even a HIGHER expectation as their enrollment teams? Oh, you don't want to miss what I have to say about this topic.
Grab those headphones and tune into this discussion.

We all know that Objection Handling or as I would prefer to say "Overcoming Obstacles and Concerns" is an Enrollment Advisor's NIGHTMARE for many reasons. Most advisors struggle with this because they see objections as rejection, and that's not always the case.
Before you can address a concern, you must CLARIFY the concern. No worries, I got your back. Check out the Top 5 Keys to Objection Handling, then sit back and watch your Appointment Set and Show Rates take off.

In this episode, I had the opportunity to sit with Marco Velazquez, Director of Admissions with Quest College. As we know, the world of Career Education can be a bit challenging but rewarding. Our students need our support and sometimes lack the encouragement from their friends and family who surround them.
Leading a team of dedicated but sometimes deflated and defeated advisors, takes ENERGY, PASSION, EMPATHY, and SKILL. Sometimes as leaders, we forget who our advisors are...PEOPLE. Just as we serve our students, we must nurture and build our teams by leading by example, letting them see you sweat AND overcome obstacles with consistent feedback.
Marco represents just that. Hear how he is able to keep his team motivated and driven on the worst days, AND guess where Marco thinks Career Education is headed? WOW. You won't want to miss this.
As we continue to celebrate our graduates, this week I had the pleasure of speaking with LaBarbara Simpson. She is a graduate of American Institute. She is the prime example of "I can and WILL." LaBarbara was without a steady place to live her entire time in school and no one knew until she said her speech at GRADUATION. For the past 2 years, she has been working as a Dental Assistant and has opened up her own side business. Talk about perseverance.
Was it easy? Of course not, but she has proven that if you have a dream, a vision of what your life can look like and most of all FAITH. its up tp you to make it happen. Get that box of tissue out because you'll need it as LaBarbara takes you on an emotional journey.
This episode is very special to me because I get the opportunity to reconnect with one of my FIRST graduates in Career Education. We all know that its not as easy for dependent students to pursue their dreams when culture differences arise. From parents/guardians not understanding the financial aid process, to them not believing in the system nor the dreams our students have instilled within their hearts. It can be challenging to even get started.
Sometimes culture differences may paint of picture of what success SHOULD look like in their eyes. Grab your coffee and take a listen as Rose takes us through her journey to success.
In this episode I have the pleasure of speaking with Danielle Shelton, a Destination Coach, English Instructor, CEO, Podcast Host, Author, workout guru and amazing mom and wife. Talk about jack of all trades right? It wasn't easy though. With all the moving parts that take place in Danielle's life daily, guess what her MAIN motivator is that keeps her positive, inspired and ready to take on ANY challenge? Get a pen and paper, you won't want to miss this.
This week's episode features the amazing Simone Francis, National Director of Admissions with Aviation Institute of Maintenance. We all know that the role of an admissions advisor is challenging, but seldom do we consider the Leaders who have to continuously motivate, inspire and guide their teams on a daily basis.
Simone is spilling the beans on how she is able to navigate the daily tasks of an Admissions Leader, hold it together and still meet and exceed enrollment and start expectations. Are you ready for the "Scoop?" Let's Gooooo.
Now that mandates are soon to be lifted, most schools are still struggling in getting students to come back to school or enroll.
(Note: Lifting mandates does not mean that this pandemic is over. It is still your job to protect yourselves and those around you❤️).
Taking your school to the next level includes two parties: Your Admissions Team and Your Students. I'm giving you some tips on what is needed to get your team back in the right headspace, and how to get your students excited again to train for the careers they deserve.

All I can say is WOW. Who would have thought that jumping out of her mother's car to follow of sea of blue uniforms into a school, would be the start of an amazing journey for Judith Morales, Founder/Owner of Landon Career Institute.
You do not want to miss this episode. Judith is dropping some gems, facts and motivation as she shares how she got started in Career Education and is fulfilling her career as a school owner.
Most career students unfortunately, are not able to fulfill their dream because they lack financial resources and support. Judith is on a mission to break down the barriers of those challenges in order to help more students train for the careers they deserve.
Judith is a prime example of how you could use fear to catapult you to new levels of success. Enjoy, as you are taken through an amazing journey.
Appointment Setting has been an ongoing topic in many admissions departments for several years. It's important to understand WHO our student is before you can effectively communicate with them.
In this episode, I'm breaking down how to build rapport, trust and inspire your students to take action. Remember, we can't grow if they don't show.

Hold onto your seats because you're about to be blown away. Today, I had the honor of speaking to Nicole Laborde, Owner and Founder of Ideal School of Allied Healthcare and Ideal Home Care Services. Nicole came here from Haiti and the age of 15 years old, alone with a suitcase, dream and a vision.
Nicole enrolled herself in High School, then afterwards a Home Health Aide program. Later on she received her Bachelors degree in Nursing where she worked as a bedside nurse at Stonybrook University. Seeing the need for healthcare workers is what inspired her to open up her own home care agency, "Ideal Home Care Services."
This is where her vision started to come to life. She realized that there was a huge shortage in people who were properly trained in this industry, which then led her to open her own training school, "Ideal School of Allied Healthcare." Talk about perseverance, drive and passion.
Since then, Nicole has won several awards for her hard work and dedication including the Business Hall of Fame, Top 100 Healthcare Leaders Award and Caribbean Life Impact Award, just to name a few. She was also the 2021 Honoree for honoring Healthcare heroes and was featured on Fox 5 "Good Day Street Talk" for the amazing work she has done in the community.
Nicole has achieved so much more, but if you want to learn more, take a listen AND learn more by logging onto Ideal School of Allied Healthcare.
Admissions can be a tedious and challenging role but it's definitely worth it in the end.
