What we believe about our suffering is either multiplying our misery or it is magnifying the way we see the God of majesty and mystery. In this message, Pastor Chuck looks at 2 critical lenses for the sufferings we face: surrendering to God’s Majesty (He is the rightful King of Creation), and submitting ourselves under the God of Mystery (He doesn’t always give us answers, but instead has come AS our answer). This is a message for anyone facing uncertainty, heartbreak, loneliness, or the quiet of the waiting!

Many of us have encountered some really bad theology about the nature of suffering in the world and God’s role and desire as our Healer… and it has led to resentment on one side and spiritual manipulation on the other. In this message, we slow down to look at what the Bible actually has to say about suffering and the radically different responses it requires from God’s children. What we believe about suffering will either multiply our misery or magnify the God of majesty and mystery!

Complete and utter wholeness is the will of God…and whether we know it or not, every child of God is in the already in the process of being healed. This is a highly “actionable” message that will supercharge hungry hearts!

We never mean to, but for those of us who really love Jesus, it can be all too easy to get caught up in the world of leading and restoring others so much that we start to take on pressure, burdens, and expectations that Jesus never intended. In this raw message, Pastor Chuck shares how he allowed a superhero complex that wrought great pain…and how the true Hero met him in the mess to lead him out. This is a message for any Christian or church that longs to live sold out to Jesus, not burned out by ministry.

There are hundreds of kingdoms that have risen and fallen throughout history. But there is one and only one that claims to be an everlasting kingdom and it is the Kingdom of God. Which one do you need to receive today?

"Every space where you sense separation between the HOPE God has spoken and the HEALING you’re presently holding is an invitation to restoration." In this message, we go to John 21 and join Peter on the beach. Though Jesus has raised from the dead, Peter has returned to what is predictable and familiar, no longer sure where he ‘fits' in the bigger story. Jesus’ reinstatement of Peter is an invitation to us to receive RESTORATION, so that we go forth as ministers of RECONCILIATION. If you’ve been hurt, wounded, or disoriented in the days you’re in, this is a message for YOU!

The greatest enemy to the fully surrendered life for Jesus is the death of wonder. We’ve all had our hearts broken in ways that make it hard to hope again. In this message, Pastor Chuck shares 4 responses of those who witnessed Jesus’ resurrection: some wrestled toward wonder; some chose to re-learn wonder; some refused wonder altogether…but every heart who saw Him for who He was couldn’t keep wonder to themselves. In living hope, they CLUNG to Jesus and RAN to tell their brothers, their sisters, their mothers, their fathers…their friends. It’s time we follow them in wonder once again.

What is success for the follower of Jesus? Is it accumulating possessions to comfort and secure us? Acquiring positions where others revere us? Or is it something else entirely? In this message, Pastor Chuck shares the invitation of Gods upside-down Kingdom of a table in the wilderness in the very presence of our enemies…so that we AND THEY might be invited closer to take a seat as a friend of God.

For many of us, sometime between our spiritual childhood and adulthood (and often many other times throughout our journey), we find ourselves facing a ‘dark night of the soul’ or a ‘wilderness experience’ where yesterday’s faith simply doesn’t work anymore. These valleys can be disorienting, overwhelming, or downright scary. The question isn’t IF we will face trials that are too big for us; it’s where we will look when it does. This matters greatly because, “the deserts of your life will either ultimately REFINE you or they will DEFINE you!” In this message, Pastor Chuck points our attention to see our Shepherd leading us through the shadows of our trials!

“God built His church on the Apostles…” — there is a reason this is the FIRST grace God spoke over the church. Whether followers of Jesus are dreaming in wide-eyed wonder or lamenting with groans within, we spend a lot of time talking about “what” the Church should be. But there’s a deeper transformative question that is screaming for our attention: HOW has the Church that defies Hell been called to operate? In this deeply practical message, Pastor Chuck moves past merely the inspirational imagining of a church of 5-fold diversity down to the very nuts and bolts the Holy Spirit gave us for HOW we are to be EQUIPPED and to MATURE together. It’s unbelievably good news…and it is the destiny Jesus holds out today for any crazy enough to follow Him!

It is incredible to look at the vast diversity within humanity. We have radically different gifts and passions. When we see the array of needs on the planet, we find ourselves moved by different ‘burdens’ or problems we feel we MUST join as part of the solution. In a culture that often demands conformity ‘or else’ (everyone has to equally value everything), what if God was doing something profound? What if He was revealing various facets of His own heart scattered across humanity, only to be unveiled when we trust one another enough to raise our banner AND receive our brother’s with gratitude? In this message, Pastor Chuck shares God’s heart for His Church as a beautiful body who is invited to release “Every Shade of Jesus” to the world.

Throughout Jesus’ life and ministry, one mission continually poured from His lips. He came to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth. In Matthew 16, He opened up a secret to the disciples…and to us. His strategy for establishing the Kingdom was a FAMILY He would birth called, “The Church.” In an age of much hurt, disillusionment, and confusion, the CHURCH is still Jesus’ Body and His Bride. She may be broken, but she is still BEAUTIFUL. In this message, Pastor Chuck gives two powerful re-alignments needed for the Church to rise up into the fullness of her glorious calling!

When did evangelism in the American Church become so strategic? As believers, we often prefer to employ strategies rather than implore the Spirit of God to lead us. The first step to joining any team is registration day. It’s when you go to the info meeting and hear what it means to be part of the team. It’s where you see the practice and game schedule, the needed equipment and personal commitment…it's where you pay the cost, get your jersey, and find your place on the roster. In the last several hundred years, the local church has been a “team” of a few excited and exhausted professionals trying to DO the work of the ministry while the majority of Christ-followers have been invited to merely take a seat in the stadiums of our services. But what if God is awakening something in our DNA to return to His actual design for the Church: a multi-faceted community that walks in confidence to release every shade of Jesus upon the earth? What if that game plan has already been activated and is guaranteed to make the enemy of our souls run for cover? Some people approach holiness as if it is a monument: some historical event of an aisle they walked or a prayer they prayed that checked off the needed boxes. Whol-i-ness is refined in every place we put our trust in our Redeemer, not our reforms. In this, we spend ample soul trying to re-align our circumstances or resenting God where He isn’t making life “work.” But what if something gloriously better is happening? In a recent poll, 86% of Americans reported being unhappy with the direction of their lives. They are frustrated with their jobs, their marriages, their health, their finances…and for many, they are frustrated with the God that was supposed to make life somehow ‘better.’ We are the most advanced and privileged society in the history of human civilization — why are most struggling so greatly? Is the key to our happiness really the next job, the next promotion, the next relationship, the next accomplishment — or have we lost perspective about what our true treasure is and what God is really up to on the journey? In this message, Pastor Chuck shares three powerful realignments to recovering a life of gratitude, purpose, and expectancy!

Many days it seems we live in a world of 7.5 billion self-proclaimed experts who walk in polarized — and increasingly segmented — social groups convinced they alone have the answers the world needs. “Knowledge is power,” we say. And often, we use that “knowledge” to divide and conquer. But when Jesus wanted to define greatness, He took a toddler in His arms and told us we need to rediscover the wonder of child-like faith and humility. What could it look like for us to learn to walk again — in a humility that fills us with a greater confidence than we’ve ever known?

"Common Unity" was the unique response of God when asked, "What are You saying to Your people?"

The Church has always been called to be the standard for unity. But have we let go of that responsibility as of late? We must be a people willing to be an extension of the love and heart of God to the lost and found. The only thing that binds a free people together is love.

Pastor Caleb's message is based on his new book which will take you deep into that revelation and you will experience the depths and riches of His heart for you, and His body. The ultimate goal is simple: The lost will be found, the found will be free and Peace will reign. Common Unity was written with the hope that these principles would inspire The Church of Jesus Christ to come together around the one unifying element that we actually all have: the Person of The Son of God, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

You can get Caleb's new book 'Common Unity' here.

In great generosity, Caleb also brought with him to Overflow Church a free resource, his audiobook 'The Wild, Weird and Wonderful Ways of Yahweh' which you can also access here.

We all love an unbelievable story because we are wired to believe. But the thought that is dominating our culture is suspicion. That’s ‘sus’ as the kids say. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with all people. Romans 12:18  This statement by Paul is bold, particularly if you are living in a place of  hurt or offense. But it is not impossible.  With Jesus as our guide, we have the peace-making anointing to lay down suspicion and choose to trust. Then, through spiritual maturity, we can take ourselves and the offending party off the hook for the offense, and place it, through forgiveness, on the hook which has been hammered into the cross of Jesus Christ.  For those of us who need to know a bit more about the mechanics of conflict and trust-building, this message explores the four types of conflict, how to establish trust in the midst of conflict, and how to understand and build emotional intelligence.

Peace is not just my inheritance. Peace is my residence. As natives of the Kingdom of Peace, we are called Peacemakers. As peacemakers, we can not be freaked out or shocked by conflict. Jesus warned us about conflict while on this earth.

John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus tells us we will have trouble, conflict, trial, sorrow, disagreements, and fights in this world. Then he says, take heart, be of good cheer, rejoice!  Why? Because he has overcome it already. That doesn’t give us cause to ignore conflict or to prove how right we are because we are believers. This would be to take his grace for granted, when we are meant to use it to offer grace to someone else. Conflict is an opportunity to make more peace.

The Church is not a thrift store. We can’t dump our junk or sell it to the unsuspecting. We often fail to think how dumping our sin is damaging to someone else. When we clean out spaces in our hearts and lives, what are we making room for? We don’t need to fake it or have it altogether. We simply need to go to our Father, who is the waste management company. He removes our sin as far as the east is from the west. As believers, when we remove something, it is to make room for something better. And for us, there is nothing better than grace through faith.

The Church is a repair shop. It’s filled with artisans and craftsmen who are skilled to restore those who have been burdened by the junk and sin. Therefore we must choose to evaluate ourselves by the faith God has given us. (Romans 12:3) It is more valuable than gold!

Good News! We LIVE as workers in the field and the harvest is huge and ripe!

Key purposes in this message

  1. To activate and release the evangelistic grace given to you. Anticipate and ready our hearts for the season of harvest. Mark 4:26-29 26 Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.” Are you ready?

  2. To equip and enable you as a worker in the field. Put the tools in your hand and learn how to harvest. Joel 3:13 Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Are you able?

In an attempt to convert a potential client from a prospect to a sale, we would categorize them as ready, able and willing. It's the same for us as workers in the field in the kingdom of God. Holy Spirit can move even when we don't think we're ready, or able. However, he can't move much through us if we're not willing to let him.

Matthew 9:37 He turned to his disciples and said, “The harvest is huge and ripe! But there are not enough harvesters to bring it all in. 38 As you go, plead with the Owner of the Harvest to thrust out[v] many more reapers to harvest his grain!”

Much of today is about your agreement in faith to partner with what the Spirit is saying right now: The Harvest is Ripe; Swing the Sickle.

5 ways we come into agreement with the evangelistic grace and anointing in us. 1. Go into the field. (Be where the people are)

  1. Hold the wheat. (Know their story/ENGAGE!)
  2. Hold your own sickle. (Know your story/IDENTITY) Gospel fluency does not hinge on personality.
  3. Swing the sickle. (Share the story of Jesus) If there is any rhythm to evangelism, it is found in our ability to recognize the Gospel story in everyone.

Jesus is the author. Jesus is the offer. Feel, Felt, Found:

I understand you feel______, I have felt________ too, when _________. Jesus found me and he__________. Now I have __________. Would you like to know the ________________ I have found?

John 4:42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

  1. Bundle/Gather the harvest. (Join the church! MCs and Discipleship) At Overflow they are bundled in Missional Community where the harvest is used for future fields and harvests.

John 4:34-38 34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. 35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe[e] for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life. What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! 37 You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. 38 I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; others had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.”

The woman drops her jar. Why? She no longer needs the things of this world. Her time is better spent not getting those physical needs met, but meeting the spiritual needs of others. In other words, by our standards, she is not able, she is not ready, BUT she is willing. Are you?

The 4 Seasons of Expectancy: Part One   Before you woke up this morning, God already thought more precious thoughts about His plans for your life than every grain of sand on every seashore that has ever existed. While you dreamed, He gloried in His dreams FOR you! If this is true, why do so few seem to live out these dreams when they awake? In this message, Pastor Chuck walks through the life of John the Baptist to look at 4 Seasons we desperately need to elevate God’s faithfulness over our feelings and choose expectancy. “Restoring the Rhythms of Rest”  We were made to live from rest — to abide before our Father and to feed on every word He is continually speaking straight to our hearts. When we refuse to rest, we lose sight of God’s heart and begin to look for obscure signs from His ‘hands’ to establish or protect some agenda that isn’t birthed from security and intimacy. REST is the foundation of our RESToration. In this episode, Pastor Chuck walks through the fall of Elijah to call us back to the heart of our first love — and gives powerful and practical counsel about how to live from the rhythms of rest!   PDF Resource: https://myoverflowchurch.com/pdfs/Rhythmes%20of%20Rest.pdf

We Live: Death by Goodness   Jesus came for so much more than for us to exist, or survive, or get by. He came “so that we might LIVE!” But we have an enemy seeking to steal our time and soul, to kill the dreamer in us, and to destroy our hope. In this message, Pastor Chuck shares how the enemy often does this not by using the sin of ‘badness’ but that of GOODNESS — wearing us out as we trust where our feet can take us instead of living at Jesus’ feet. This message of hope shows us how to lay down every ‘ought’ and ‘should’ to experience the freedom and delight of the finished Gospel today.   Come and Live!
