The Pacifics - Independent Filipino Hip-Hop crew from Chicago. The PACIFICS, an acronym for People Accumulating Creative Ideas Foregoing Ignorant Conclusions of Society, are a Filipino hip hop group hailing from the Chicago underground. Made up of MCs KP, Strike3 (aka. Mr. REXford), and Norman Rockwell, they have a smooth group rhymestyle similar to Jurrasic 5 - they bounce off of each other seamlessly and have a cohesive flow in which no MC dominates any other. Their music has a characteristic Chicago underground sound, with soul and jazz inspired samples layered on top of sparse beats and looming basslines.
I first heard of the group when I was still living in Chicago around 1999 or 2000. In the time since then they've come up quite a bit, and have released several albums themselves while having tracks featured on several more. "Set It" is a classic, with smoky piano samples behind a rolling bassline. Other standouts to check out (with free MP3 downloads from their site) are "Ketchup", a track with a liquid, bassy production and a laid back vibe, and "Hold it Down", a Chicago anthem track repping all the underground cats from my hometown.
Definetley check out their latest album, Sunday's Chicken, and visit their website at www.thepacifics.com to learn more about the group. According to their site they should actually be coming to San Francisco for the Asian American Film Festival, but no confirmation is posted. We sent them an email to see what's up and will update as soon as we know more. [Grooveeffect - An Urban Style, Music, and Events Guide]

bitjob 5 comes to you on a Sunday for the first time and I really think I should get some sort of advertising dealio with a cough medicine company or something because the state of my voice througout is pretty damn shocking, alas I manage to pull it out of my ass; so to speak. Today I decided to visit Garageband.com and download some tracks for your listening pleasure. As its a Sunday I wanted to mellow it out a little and didn't really succeed. Experimented with a few different dancy type tracks to get rid of the background noise that pissed me off in past shows. We may have a bitjob 5.25 or 5.5 this week, depending how the voice holds up. I'm also penning a song that I may get someone to sing, possibly. Keep the comments coming in, send me voicemails (I NEED VOICEMAILS) and remember to hit up the 138 (Keeme, Bibb and Yaz and Corby) with votes on all available podcast directories. We need to stop the rot of podcasting currently going on with the Catholic Insider as numero uno on podcastalley.com.

Francisco Lomuto's (...) orchestra, even if does not truly belong to the first rank, was an important and popular dance orchestra in its day and left some wonderful recordings. You can get an idea of his popularity from the number of recordings that he left: over 950 titles between 1922 and his death in 1950. That's more than double what D'Arienzo managed in the same period. (from milonga.co.uk) (via buenosairestango.com)
This week I had a 'normal' radioshow for DFM RTV Int. (http://dfm.nu) with my homegrown soundscapes and music. And like I promised with embedded Paris sounds. If you like be live on the radioshow; I'm doing the show every thursday from 22:00 till 24:00 (GMT +1). You only have to visit http://dfm.nu to find a link to the livestream and chat. Maybe'll see you next time on the chatchannel. And no surprise of course, but my nickname on that is 'Zebra404'.
Well that was really something last week. Ofcourse I did prepare my show wich was the last one for februari and I would have play FreeMusic from garageband.com for the last time. But on that same moment there was a live event going on in Enschede that was broadcasted live by DFM. So when I started my show I noticed that nobody could listen my show. The operator from DFM really did the best he could to broadcast my show on a another stream but there were some datatraffic problems too so... To keep a long story short; I went to Paris and I did that show from last week today. That will give me another week to finish working on the soundscapes I recorded on my short vacation in Paris. You will hear that stuff next week. Meanwhile you can listen to this show. Stay tuned!
