We're baaaack! We are so sorry we've been gone for longer than we had originally planned - this thing called life got the best of us. But we have a lot to talk about here. We're updating the episode schedule temporarily to one episode a month. We're going to be talking about 31 ways you can practice sustainability for free for the month of January over on Instagram (and Facebook if I can get them connected!). We're also both partaking in the declutter challenge. For 30 days, we're decluttering nearly 500 items. Whatever day of the month it is, we're getting rid of that number of things (day 15 = 15 items). Hannah's putting hers up on Instagram, and Alicia's will be up on Youtube. These are both going to be more vlog-style, and we're discussing not only what we're decluttering, but HOW to properly dispose of certain things (batteries, electronics, and old lab equipment). So if any of that sounds interesting, listen along and find us on social media!

Have you ever been to a kid's birthday party and as you're watching them tear through the wrapping paper, you wonder, "are they going to reuse that," or, "so...much...waste." We're talking today about how to avoid that by being a little more conscious about how you present your gift. Whether you're reusing a gift bag, wrapping it with a paper bag or newspaper, or simply just presenting the gift as is, we're going to talk about it. We also talk about how we should normalize re-gifting. I get it, it's kind of a faux pas, but why? If it's not serving a purpose for you, why shouldn't you find someone who's going to really get some use out of it?

How do you sustainably gift something? Let us know on social media. Tag us on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtag #chasingsustainability. You can also find us on our website where we continue the discussion on the blog post for this episode. If you have any questions or episode suggestions, contact us on social media or email us at hello@chasesustainability.com.

Until next time, we hope you keep chasing sustainability.

Do you feel the weight of the world when thinking about how we're going to take on some of these climate issues? Do you feel guilty about forgetting your reusable shopping bag and using a plastic one? Let's talk about it.

We're having a conversation about how we feel about things that we can and can't control when it comes to our impacts on the environment. Biggest takeaway: nobody is perfect and we're all doing what we can. It's not about one person doing everything perfectly. It's about millions of people doing it imperfectly. Remember that next time you end up with a single-use plastic item.

How do you deal with eco-anxiety? Let us know on social media. Tag us on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtag #chasingsustainability. Hey and welcome back to episode 3! This is part 2 of our sustainable swaps. We really like to talk about swaps - this does not mean you have to go out and get them right away. But when you're ready to make the switch, these are what we recommend!

Hannah's swaps: Lint roller, sustainable pantry, makeup remover cloth, Final Straw, Dropps laundry pods, and the Furoshiki method. Wish list: safety razor, Thinx underwear, wooden nail brush, and Ethique deodorant bar.

Alicia's swaps: Reusable water bottle, shampoo & conditioner bars, Quip floss pick, Who Gives a Crap toilet paper, and secondhand shopping. Wish list: recharchable batteries and microplastics filter for the washer.

Have you tried any of these swaps yet? What did we not mention that you're loving? Let us know on Facebook or Instagram. Tag us or use #chasingsustainability and let us know!

Check out our blog on this episode, where I link some of these items for you to check out (and there may be a discount code over there for you!).

As always, keep chasing sustainability.

Hello and welcome to Chasing Sustainability, a podcast for people looking to build a better future for the planet. In episode two, we're discussing our must have swaps. We each list our top five swaps; the ones we cannot give up.

Hannah: My top five are my reusable bags, my 80 ounce water bottle(!), of course my Ethique lip balm, body bars, and shampoo/conditioner bars. You'll soon realize how much I love Ethique, and for good reason. They're a great company for you, the animals, and the earth!

Alicia: My top five are my safety razor, my menstrual cup and Thinx underwear, Native deodorant (of course), silicone straw - listen to figure out why it's silicone and not glass or metal, and Bite toothpaste and mouthwash tabs. Seriously, these things are amazing, great tasting, and come in eco-friendly packaging. There's no flouride in these, but there's a well researched alternative - nano-hydroxyapatite (say that three times fast). I have been using Bite for a couple of months now and have noticed some sensitivity dwindling (so happy!).

Part 2 comes next time, where we talk about more swaps or ways of living that we have introduced and some swaps we really want to introduce! Check out the blog that goes with this episode that goes a little more in depth and provides more resources for you. You'll also find a blog dedicated to Ethique, the company that gets the spotlight!

Get to meet Hannah and Alicia, your hosts of the new podcast, Chasing Sustainability. We'll be discussing anything and everything about eco-friendly living, discussing environmental issues, and sharing our own sustainability journeys with you.

In this episode, we discuss what it means to be sustainable and how it's not necessarily the same for everyone. We all go out our own paces, and what's working for you maybe isn't working for someone else. What's important is that we're doing what we can to make a difference!

If you're new to sustainability, I encourage you to take the footprint quiz! It asks about your personal habits and shows you how many Earths we would need to sustain everyone if we all lived like you. If you're not so new to sustainability, we still think you'll enjoy this podcast. Hearing how someone else is living sustainably may open your mind to new ideas you haven't thought of. We'll be discussing serious issues regarding fast fashion, planned obsolescence, and greenwashing. Don't worry if you don't know those terms - we're here to explain those!

Check out our website as well! We will have blog posts to go more in depth with each episode and a company spotlight, where we discuss our absolute favorite brands who are doing it right!
