Welcome back to the COLO Take-15 Podcast! We’ve got Dave Patterson on this episode covering topics about the top pain points of parenting, how parenting has changed, and the future of nursing.
Dave is a Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educator with a focus on the use of simulation to nursing practice. Dave has experience as a community educator for Perinatal Education programs and was a Level II NICU nurse. Currently, Dave has clinical and scholarly interests in undergraduate paediatric nursing education, assisting undergraduate nursing students to develop empathy for the older adult population, and how to respond to deteriorating patients. Dave is a clinical instructor, simulationist, and undergraduate nursing lecturer. When not teaching at the University of Calgary, Dave works with new parents and fathers in transition to their new roles as a parent. And by the way, he’s a Dad! Even though his kids are all grown-up, he’s a forever Dad and is here to share his experience with us!

Season 1 is titled “Hello Parents!”. We know there are thousands and thousands of podcasts out there, so we are happy you’re here. This season we’ve got several guests joining us and having conversations around parenting topics such as pregnancy, labour and birth, NICU, postpartum, infant feeding in the first few weeks and beyond, partner and/or dad’s role, sleeping, playing, and much more.
I am Aaron, your host, co-founder of COLO Families, a Nurse, and a Dad of 2, and I’m excited for COLO Take 15.
Why is it called 'Take 15'? 15 min episodes are released on the 15th day of the month. We know time is tight for everyone, so we’ll try to keep our episodes close to 15min (sometimes it’ll go over time, so pause and resume later). We hope that there’ll be something you can take away to help you feel more prepared for those twists and turns of parenthood in our episodes.
