One would think that the church would be a safe place - a body of people claiming to follow Jesus, who, himself, was an emotionally safe and accepting kind of Savior! Challenging at times (yes), but He was always filled with grace and compassion and a love so contagious that people could not help but be drawn to Him. What happens when we experience just the opposite? Church trauma is real and hopefully you have not experienced the shame and manipulation that both Taylor and Devin reveal in their very honest stories. But don't be dismayed friends; hope awaits.
"Hey, Jesus, could you please pass the A.1. sauce?" Imagine having this type of confidence during a conversation at a steak dinner that Jesus invited you to IN FRONT of your enemies. When I say "pull up a seat, there's no reservation needed" every week... I mean it. And so does He.
It's Easter morning 2000 years ago and Jesus is nowhere to be found! What if what he said was true, that on the 3rd day he would wake from death? Shouldn't there be a great celebration? Well, take off your Easter bonnet and put that basket full of eggs down - the only thing happening that first Easter morning was confusion, chaos and disbelief. But then a familiar voice whispers a name, and everything changes! And that same voice, friends, calls to you and I today. Jesus is alive and HE is the GOOD NEWS!
As this episode falls on Palm Sunday, we wanted to take a look at Jesus' journey as He prepares for His ultimate fate that lie ahead. (?) (grammar is hard). Jesus could have done alot with his limited amount of time left, but He decides what was most important was to go to spend time with His people. We see Jesus visiting Lazarus and we can only imagine it was for one simple reason.. to be able to find comfort in the the words, "Me too."
On today's menu, Jesus is offering a big ol' slice of humble pie! Why? Because it's not in our nature to put others ahead of ourselves. As Jesus-followers in our toxic 'me-oriented' culture, we are called to live differently and remember his words: "All those who lift themselves up will be made humble. And those who make themselves humble will be lifted up.” When it comes to this kind of pie...why not have seconds!
