History in the News is a podcast dedicated to connecting modern events with historical context. Oftentimes, we hear commentary that is strictly opinion-based which does not provide the background for what is actually happening. We believe that history repeats itself and so we do our best to learn from the past to help people form well informed worldviews for the future.
When you turn on today's top hits to listen to what's hot today you will likely feel the sensation of, "have I heard this before?" We are going to examine why this seems to be a common refrain among music critics as well as casual listeners in today's episode.
There are two main genres of music that are really making a comeback, Disco and Synthpop. Both of these genres peaked around the late 70's to early 80's. Yet, when you listen to songs by Lizzo, The Weeknd, Harry Styles, or other modern artists you can see that these genres are still very alive in modern music.
We will examine what has caused the development of new music to decline significantly in this episode.
Today I am interviewing Arvin Khamseh who is an NFT marketer. Arvin offers his services to creators to help them sell their NFT's. We will take a dive into explaining in layman's terms what NFT's are and how they function, why their use grew so rapidly in 2021, plus what he forecasts will be the next big thing in the future. I very much enjoyed this podcast as we learned more about this emerging market and the technology behind it.

Today I am excited to release my first interview! Today we are speaking with Ella Colic about her book, "Trees Without Roots" in which she provides first-hand accounts of the Bosnian Civil war. Bosnia has much in common with Ukraine being that they are both formerly Soviet-Bloc States and that they have both been torn by war various times throughout their history.
In this interview I seek to learn more about the Bosnian War and the outcomes of such a horrible conflict. Then, we apply our understanding of the outcomes of the Bosnian War to speculate on what Ukraine may look like after their current conflict with Russia.
On Friday June 24th, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned Roe v. Wade which was a pivotal case from 1973. In today's episode we break down the history behind the decision and examine the context. Our goal is to get a better understanding of the abortion movement and its roots so we can inform ourselves in the coming days as the States are left to hash out their own abortion policies.
After the historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade there will be both immediate and long-term effects of the new decision. In today's episode we'll break down the short-term effects.
What is the legislative background of one of the most critical school-safety acts in our history? What has the effect of this act been upon our schools?
Today, we are breaking down the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 and discussing it's implications and application. I hope to take a no-nonsense approach that is critical of the approach taken by both sides of the political spectrum in order to drill down on what will actually help stop this wave of unfortunate events.
We also take the time to recognize the heroic actions of Jacob Albarado who was the key player in ending the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX.

Two days ago it was officially announced that Elon Musk has reached an agreement with the board of Twitter to take private ownership of the company. In this episode, we discuss how the internet was created and what led us up to this point. With Twitter formerly being one of the most out-and-out pro-censorship social platforms now being taken over by a staunchly free-speech billionaire, we'll discuss what is likely to occur in the coming weeks and years.
