Daniel Lapin was born into a prestigious Torah family. He was a student of his father, Rabbi A.H. Lapin, who served the Jewish communities in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, eventually immigrating to America with his wife where they established the Am Echad synagogue in San Jose, CA. Why Entrepreneurship is not for Everyone

In this episode, I talked about the painful experiences I’ve gone through in my life and how I was able to overcome these obstacles. Most of us have something in our past that’s a painful memory—a traumatic event, heartbreak or betrayal, years of bullying or rejection.
These challenges I had to go through, from watching my parents divorced to losing my brother weeks before my wedding, made me the person I am today. If it weren’t for these challenges, I would not be able to discover the gifts that I have right now. It made me realize my purpose and share it with the world.

Do you need to be successful in your gift before you share your gift? The answer is no.
Imagine if we got to see the process or the journey of the most successful people. The nuggets we would have gleaned along the way. The Mozarts, the Helen Kellers, the Serena Williams’, the Oprahs, the Bill Gates’, if they did not start sharing their gifts with others, would they be where they are today? As you’re going through your journey, your peek, your success, you have to understand there are people that would love and benefit from that journey. And that is what we have to do: share. Share that podcast, share the knowledge, share that book, share that course, share that idea whatever it is, whatever you can do, you should share.
A lot of people feel like they have to get to the pinnacle of their gifts before sharing it. The truth is that you need to develop and constantly develop your gift but you also need to understand that the way to develop it, is through sharing it. Your gift, no matter what state is in, is no good when you keep it to yourself.
When you share your gift, you are actually opening doors and opportunities. Your gift will make room for you. It will give you access to opportunities. I became a professor because someone saw my teaching gift. I was invited to make a presentation at an event of 10,000 small businesses. I got little information but I still prepared as much as I could. After my talk, there was a gentleman in the program that took me downstairs and told me that he was going to give me a teaching position in their organization. Now imagine, if I turned down the opportunity to speak in that event, I would not be a professor right now. You don’t know how many opportunities you’re missing when you decide to keep your gift to yourself.
LeBron James is not just great because he’s talented or has the body that’s built for sports, but also because of his work ethic. Some of his teammates say that LeBron doesn’t take a day off, a play off, a workout off. He works his gift like a person who doesn’t have one. You need to work your gift like the person who’s not gifted at it.
I challenge you to treat your gift with the highest level of degree and intentionality that it deserves. Your gifts have unlimited capacity to grow and develop. Our gifts, though they are given were not confined to stay where they are. You can enhance your gifts in so many ways to make yourself unstoppable.
Do me a favor and do yourself a favor, share your gift relentlessly. Share it, there are people waiting on you.

I'm sure there would be less gangs, less drug use, less rape, less murder, less stealing and less evil in the world if we taught young people to discover their purpose. When you know how to use a car you won't misuse the car. Impromper use of a car is dangerous, you can cause accidents, you can kill people, you can even kill yourself from misuse of a car. How much more can you endanger your life with the misuse of your purpose. That is called abuse of purpose. Abuse means abnormal use. Let me illustrate this further. A person that doesn't know their gifts will normally use their gifts in the inverse or in the wrong way.
Back in high school I got picked on a lot, and to combat that I would fight back with my words I learned how to roast as we use to call it. I would spend a lot of time roasting others and I learned how to get better by studying it. The main way my roasting skills developed was by roasting people at school. When they started to make fun of me I had a rebuttal and most of the time my rebuttals were way better. At the time I was very proud of it but today I am not so proud. You see I was hurting a lot of people with my words. People say sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. That is a bold face lie. In actuality words can be the most damaging thing in ones life.

Meeting these strong, powerful leaders changed the course of his life and allowed him the privilege of attending and graduating college, where he met people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Nate's college experience piqued his interest in socioeconomic statutes and inspired him to become a businessman and entrepreneur.
For a decade, Nate worked in higher education while building a small entrepreneurial empire on the side before deciding to leave both higher education and corporate America and invest in real estate. After graduating from the Excellerated Training Program at School for Entrepreneurs in San Diego, CA, he created the Choices program in 2001.
Have you ever wondered why they don’t teach us about our gifts in school? One of my favorite scriptures says your gift will make room for you and bring you before great men. Notice it didn’t say your education will make room for you. It didn’t say your connections will make room for you. It didn’t even say your money will make room for you. It’s your gift that opens doors and allows you access.
For nearly two decades I had no idea of my gift nor my purpose. It's amazing they teach us about history, English, math, science, physical education, and yet I have never taken a class on the most important element of my life, finding out what my gifts are which lead me to my purpose. Did you know each and every day there are over 1 billion people searching for what is my purpose on Google since that is the case why Not add it to the school curriculum
A lot of times your gift is the thing you do so well but don’t recognize, this makes it hard for you to find it. Your gift comes so naturally to you because it’s part of you, it's something inside of you that comes outside of you. Some people have easily identifiable gifts like they are athletic, they can sing, they are naturally humorous. A majority of gifts are not easily identifiable like productivity, the ability to solve math equations, organization, collaboration, and many others.
Most people will see your gift more clearly than you will. For myself, there was a gift that I’ve always had and many people would tell me over and over including my wife that you are so good at this. They would say David you’re a teacher your good at teaching and I would always think teaching is for teachers in a classroom. Remember these gifts have no boundaries and cannot be confined by. I would teach naturally and it wasn’t something I sought after or looked for. The gift can be so close to us and we don’t think it's anything special so we devalue our own gifts because we’ve been using those gifts our whole lives.
That gift that you have that innate talent, that special unique ability, that thing your able to do or multiple things your able to do without much effort, that’s your gift! I didn’t think my ability to teach or encourage was special or to even be seen as a gift. I know now the power of my gift and I want the same for you. I believe everybody on earth has a least one gift they can use to make a difference in another person's life. If you don’t know what your gifts are I am going to challenge you to ask people close to you to tell you what they see in you that comes naturally to you. Like one of my mentor’s Delatorro McNeal says it's hard to see the picture when you’re in the frame. You may be surprised at what you find and then when you identify you have the responsibility to develop it and from that development more doors and opportunities will come to you. Let people help you find what you are unconsciously amazing at. Maximize your gifts and you will receive gifts also!

- Ask Friends and Family what they think you are good at?
- What type of problems do you like to solve?
- What you do for free for the rest of your life? What would you do with your life If you were a multi-millionaire?

There are many who don’t know their gifts or purpose and on the contrary there are many people who know their purpose, but have not learned an important key. Imagine Michael Jordan playing basketball by himself in the confinement of his home and never allowing any of us to watch him play. What if Mozart kept all his music locked up in his basement, or if Michael Angelo created masterpieces and destroyed them before anyone could see them. The world would have been robbed if these gifts were not shared. My good friend from episode 3 Cortney Sargent shared a revelation with me recently that blew my mind. He said, that “we are trees and trees cannot eat their own fruit, and in addition if no one eats the fruit from the tree, the fruits perish and die.” We are each called to bear fruit, but our gifts and talents are not for us. In the weeks that I’ve struggled with my purpose, I’ve found that the reason why I struggled so much was that I was not using the gift God gave me (which is a the gift of encouragement) for others. Instead, I got into my little bubble and tried to stay encouraged without encouraging. This is the quickest way to self-destruct. Your gift is a gift and it has to be given! I haven’t written an article for Being Encouraged for over three months and I found that my lack of encouragement and lack of writing not only discouraged our audience, but also discouraged me. I need to use my gift just as much as someone needs to receive my gift, and it is the same for you!

At my young age, I’ve been through a lot. My single mother raised my 3 siblings and I in a small trailer park in Columbus, MS. I grew up for 10 years without my dad, and I didn’t address him as “dad” until I was 24yrs old.
I was an average student in high school and became a college dropout after 3 years at a 2-year community college. I got married at 21 without a job or a plan. In our first year of marriage Christian and I had a miscarriage (quadruplets), and this was the darkest time of my life.
I’ve been poor with $0 to my name while chasing my dream of being an entrepreneur. I’ve been lied on, hated on, talked about, deceived and outcast by friends, family and even pastors. But, with every story of tribulation is a bright side.
On the other side of all I’ve been through, not only have I survived, but God has taught me how to thrive during the darkness. And, if little ‘ol me can endure those experiences and still be a success, so can you.
You can achieve success if you work hard, remain determined, and keep the faith. It doesn’t matter how you start, but how you continue the journey and finish.
I like to think of myself as a renaissance man with a creative mind. I’ve started and run freelance businesses in music instruction, photography, video production, magazine publishing and graphic & web design. Today I run 2 companies, Sargent Branding and E Squared Publishing; and I’m President of a non-profit called Up Together Foundation, Inc.
My people skills have been developed and sharpened through years of working in management, customer service, and agency environments. One of my gifts is understanding and relating to people where they are in life. I have made it my life’s work to serve others–so much so that I am beloved as “The People’s Entrepreneur”.
In 2011 I published my first book “Guide to Beginner Music Theory”, and my second second book “Stuck In Neutral: How to Achieve Success by Living Life in Drive” in 2015. In my spare time I allow my passion for music to flourish. I play the piano, bass guitar and saxophone (on occasion), and have an instrumental jazz album, “Evolution” which is available on Spotify. Along those lines, Christian and I had a family-friendly reality show that ran for 2 seasons on YouTube and local television.
At the end of my life, I want to have made an impact on the world that would resonate for many generations. I’m just a young dude who loves to help people. Let’s make it better by up together!
