Conversations on Our Way is a light-hearted podcast, looking to share experiences and perspective on issues Flo and Sam come across in their lives. But CoOW's core aim is to be a personal time capsule, so both Sam and Flo can remember their conversations when they're on their way. Hopefully you find value in these conversations as well.
We finally decided to record another episode before the end of the year, wanted to get one through so we can remember what 2021 was like. Hopefully all of you have been doing well. Happy New Year.
This is the final episode of this season, kinda came out of nowhere but it feels like that to us as well. We're taking a break for 6 months so tune into this episode to listen as to why we made this decision. But of course we'll be back, with a more polished structure, better content, and hopefully better perspectives. Thanks to everyone who has been listening so far, see you in November.
We invited another one of Flo's university friends, Gina who is a mum of a 7-month-old. It's very refreshing to see when people nowadays who are in their mid 20s and have children since it's very the norm that we're not expected to even think about kids at least until we're late 20s or early 30s. But I think hearing from Gina and how loving she is for her daughter, maybe it doesn't sound so bad after all.
Should billionaires exist? This is kind of getting a bit political and we said at the start of the podcast that we would stay away from anything politics but this is an interesting topic to talk about nonetheless. This episode might a bit messy because honestly we're both out of our comfort zone speaking about this. But hopefully you guys can still grab something from this.
This episode we invite one of Flo's university friends Steph on. Was my first time meeting her, spoke for about 5 minutes before recording and what you hear is our actual first conversation. She's so bubbly and extroverted, just loved it. Made me notice that I was smiling the whole time although I wasn't saying that much. I guess that's what people mean when they say some personalities are contagious. Till next week.
Networking has always been a struggle for me because I feel like I'm 'using' other people and not being genuine in the social interaction. I think I always try to be as genuine as possible. But still can't help thinking I'm being dishonest when in a networking environment. Flo's explanation in this episode might have helped me change my mind though?
Doing simple things alone like having a meal can sometimes be something that people give a weird look to, but we're not sure why. Maybe when you do things alone, people naturally perceive you as not having someone else to do that activity with, and then make the illogical mental jump straight to: 'this person might have trouble maintaining or creating interpersonal relationships, that's why he/she/they are alone'. But is doing things alone and not having a companion 24/7 really a bad thing?
This week we answered more questions sent in from our past guests, mainly 3 in the title. Honestly these episodes probably aren't the most eye catching when it comes to the titles, it feels the most natural for us because we're less constrained on a topic and we can just freely speak our minds, but I guess that's already the vibe that we naturally have with our dynamic. Hope you enjoy.
We're 6 months into our podcast, still can't really believe it because it seems like it passed by so quickly. This week's episode is just all about appreciating how far we've come and hoping for another good 6 months of conversations. Hope you've all been enjoying listening as much as we've been enjoying creating.
Being psychology graduates, we both naturally really like doing and talking about personality tests. We mainly focus on the Myers-Briggs because that's the most commonly known but we also touch on my personal favorite, the Big Five.
I've been curating 'album playlists' for more than 6 months now and been one of my creative pursuits that I really have been enjoying. Along with this podcast where I verbally express my opinions on certain things, these album playlists let me express my emotions and feelings at the time when I put the playlist together. I try to create a narrative within the playlist and hopefully listeners can receive that story. I've only just started publicly talking about this now because the latest album playlist that I've curated is the one that I'm most proud of so far. Have a listen if you'd like. Search for '5. I Think I Am the Problem, That’s a Good Problem to Have' on Spotify. Enjoy the playlist and the podcast.
Another one of the catchup episodes where we like doing and don't have the hard restriction of sticking to one topic. This is probably closer to what a 'normal' conversation between Flo and I would be like that's not on air. No agenda, no plans to target certain questions, just us freely speaking. Hope you guys like these type of podcasts as much as we like doing them. See you next week.
Continuing discussing the same podcast I listened to last week, but this week we talk about the second part of the podcast which looks at the jobs with the highest job satisfaction and the jobs with the happiest people. Could it be that happy people tend to pick the 'happy' jobs? I guess we'll never really know but I personally think that although our jobs are big factors of our life, happiness is more than that. A life lived colorful is a well-lived life. Hope you enjoy the episode. See you next week.
This week, I came across a really interesting podcast (No Stupid Questions Episode 31) and wanted to discuss how much do our friends actually affect the decisions we make in our lives, are we fully in control? Probably not. Are our friends fully in control? Probably not as well. Tune in to listen we end up with.
Personally a fun topic to talk about for me because I personally come from a family of sleepwalkers and sleep-talkers. But funnily enough, I never really have any dreams. Flo on the other hand apparently dreams every night.
Tune in to listen to Sam's famous sleepwalking stories and Flo's weird recurring cheese dreams.
Kind of a topic that has been in our backlog for a while, but nonetheless interesting and we all wanted to speak about it on air. We explore what the different types of attraction really are to us, what is defined as flirting, and how love languages take part into how we interact with other people, especially with the ones that we care about. There's definitely more to speak about on this topic but tune into this episode on what we currently think about love.
Flo and I have always identified ourselves as overthinkers. Most may think it's an anchor, but we believe it's more of an advantage. I personally think that overthinking if used well leads to manipulation, but this idea may been debunked via the discussion we had here. Either way, I definitely need to put more thought into this topic if I'm going to write a book about this. Tune in to listen to what we had to say. Happy new year everyone!
This is the 17th and final episode of 2020. Thanks for tuning into our journey throughout this tough year. A lot of us have unwillingly faced demons this year but although tougher demons will inevitably come, we'll always have our loved ones there to support us. Anything is possible as long as you're alive. See you guys next year.
Aaron is a professional poker player and coach from Sydney, another one of Flo's interesting neighbors. He studied Information Systems but then decided against the cookie-cutter life of a graduate role and pursued poker as a career instead which I find to be very courageous and highly respectable. He loved something and decided to give it his all, tune in to listen to his journey.
If you're keen for some poker lessons, hit him up at @neuronpoker on Instagram.
This week's guest is Matt who Flo met at work and coincidently realized that they were neighbors. We talk about board games and how the industry has recently been booming. We're in the golden age of board games so why not dive in since Flo herself is part of a team that's developing their own board game as well.
We explore the topic of circular economy. Although in itself, the concept is meant for the wide scale economy, we talk about how we can use it as a mindset and framework so we can contribute to the solution.
Also, if anyone is keen to come onto the podcast and challenge our ideas, you're welcome to contact as at convosonourway@gmail.com
We're starting to do a bit more marketing for the podcast and realized (and appreciate) that we have a number of avid listeners, who want to make their contribution to the podcast as well. This week, we bring on Sam's close friend, Wen Jun, and he wanted to challenge Sam's previous perspective of happiness shouldn't be a life goal. Tune in to listen how we approach being challenged by a listener for the first time.
This episode we invited our ex-colleague Michael who now is the CEO of Hero Education, a tutoring company based in Sydney. He holds a unique perspective on education as he started as a tutor and then is currently trying to step back to a more strategic role. We all agree education is important but the current method might be flawed. Tune in to listen to our attempt of finding a solution.
If you're listening to the second half of the podcast and find blank parts, that's because we faced a lot of technical issues recording this episode. We did our best to patch everything together but we know that there are parts that are missing. But we felt that the existing content is still really good and to be honest in my (Sam) opinion, this was one of our best episodes yet. We apologize for the blank bits, but hopefully you can still take something away from this great conversation.
Nearing the end of the year, we're slowly going into the reflective mood, wondering what the year meant to us. Although this year was not the best for a lot of us, it definitely did put us face to face with some of our worst habits and biggest fears. What will 2021 entail?
This episode, we invited another guest, Lily Wu, who founded the bootcamp that we met on. We thought that we would play the popular card game, We're Not Really Strangers together. May not be as interesting to listen to, but we talked about great personal stories with each other, staying true to our 'time capsule' theme, another conversation on our way that we really want to remember.
This episode, we discuss gaming from the perspective of a 20+ y.o. We've all grew up with games and it's increasingly becoming rare to find someone who haven't played games growing up. But, has growing up with games made us escape reality?
In this episode, we invite our very first guest, our close friend, Michelle. She wanted to discuss the growing pains that we have as growing people, and what it really means to be an adult.
This week, we discuss the framework coined by Kim Scott, Radical Candor. The framework was invented to help solve interpersonal relationships in the workplace, but is this applicable to other relationship outside of the office?
This week, we reviewed Netflix's documentary: The Social Dilemma. Did it really give us answers or just more questions? We question if we would we really be happier without social media?
A bit of a more spontaneous episode where we explore a bit about our worldviews and a small attempt to which we try to answer what the meaning of life is, although we both know it's a meaningless question. Irregardless, it's still an interesting topic to discuss in a conversation on our way.
We recently discovered an interesting topic, antifragility. In this episode, we talk a bit about what it is and how we think it is significant.
Sam & Flo embark on their podcasting journey, finally releasing their first ever podcast episode after countless conversations that end with "we should really do that".
Conversations on Our Way is a light hearted podcast, looking to share experiences and perspective on issues they face in their lives. Talking to someone is therapeutic and hopefully we all go through life with great conversations on our way.
