For Adventures Weekly on 1 August 2020 we were excited to take a look back at a series of Olympic journey interviews - given it is both one year until Tokyo 2020, and the time when we were all thinking that we would be following the action over there we thought it was a great fit! For Adventures Weekly on 5 June 2020 we welcomed Kevin and Ross Wilson to chat about where we would have been this weekend (the Mooloolaba Yacht Club Australasian Etchells Champs), and the great work that they, along with so many, put into our sport as Volunteers. Starting their lives as sailors, they have been Race Officer's since just prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympics (Kev was a judge before that), and have since been involved with so many top regattas in Australia, and at the Olympics.

What an amazing show with John Bertrand AO to chat about the legendary Australia II win in his role as skipper, the Olympics both in 1972 and then 1976 where he won bronze, his mentors, his teammates, his youth, the psychology of winning and of course what he is up to now including being President of Swimming Australia (2013 - present) and the Chairman of The Sport Australia Hall of Fame (2005 - present) to name just a few of his incredible achievements. We were lucky enough to have over an hour together to also cover so many behind-the-scenes stories of moments that helped shape the fabric of Australia. I said it on air, and I will say it again, thanks to JB for all he has done to help sport, education, children's welfare and youth in Australia, and around the world.

Nic Douglass welcomed Jesús Renedo from Sailing Energy as the special guest direct from Palma, Mallorca in Spain - one of the hardest countries hit from Covid-19. The Sailor Girl and Jesús spoke about Trofeo Princesa Sofía Iberostar (which would have been this week), the current state of play in Spain, Jesús' images, and went through the entrants and chose the the winners for the Pantaenius Sail & Motor Yacht Insurance "Video of the Week".

Sailing News in 60 Secondsish is back - with the Bad, the Sad and the Good! Sailor Girl's "videos of the week" - including alternate training, and innovative sailing alternatives while we are dealing with the Covid-19 crisis. The Sailor Girl goes for "a sail" with relatively little outside assistance while broadcasting from a Mirror Dinghy in her pool, Christens her refurbed Mirror named "Giggel" and then wraps up her show with her "Where are you" (without the bloody hell to avoid copyright) segment and a few positive ideas for the coming week.
After talking with Alexandra about catching up at the start of the SailGP in Sydney, it was great to finally sit down in Marseille and chat about sustainability and her own sailing. Alex has been tasked with finding practical solutions for the SailGP to leave less of an impact environmentally, and really drive change not just for the SailGP, but for other similar events. For the SailGP it starts from the top with management and in the SailGP office, to onsite at events; encouraging less single-use plastic with water fountains, no cable ties, no straws, re-useable glasses at the bar, no plastic tie downs, and branding changes. With technology another focus of the SailGP, there is a big shift towards electric marks with technology that is being trialled through "Mark Bots", even electric boats, and how the event can become zero carbon by 2025 in line with the World Sailing Event Charter and the UN Sport for Climate Agreement, both of which they have signed. In line with this, there has been a big focus on temporary power provisions and at the Cowes event vegetable oil was used in all generators, which reduced the SailGP footprint by over 90%. More use of alternative fuels and expansion of these technologies are expected in the future. The SailGP organisation is young, and tech focussed, so very different to other organisations in Alexandra’s opinion, especially in terms of sustainability, as crazy ideas are all positive and the doors are open to many things. Through this mindset and the implemented changes, SailGP wants to lead change in other sports. Alexandra herself is looking to get a solar panel for her wheelchair trike attachment, as a tetraplegic and Paralympic sailor for three Olympic games, her interests have always been as a self-professed “enviro nerd”. Her background was working in oil and gas, and environmental science and technology. Especially after Alex saw the impacts of a Games on a city in Rio in 2016, on retiring from Olympic sailing, the SailGP and helping to create change is an important position for her. There is also a big focus from sailors within the circuit, from joining the climate action marches and being activists themselves, to other organisations being created to help sailors. For example, Billy Besson suggested a sustainability start-up festival in the village in Marseille, which was a great success and the team of environmental warriors that are the sailors are making a lot more suggestions to the team in their local areas. Within SailGP itself, everyone is up for the challenge and I believe that this focus on sustainability is very positive for our sport, and a great example to all events to have the same foundation in driving the change towards carbon free events. While I am still collecting the majority of my Cowes Week adventures to share with you all, here is a little bonus! Yes the return of my podcast which started about 5 years ago, and dwindled off as I was asked by my followers for more video content, and of course more live coverage.

20 July 2014: Another week, and another jam packed show with Adventures of a Sailor Girl herself, Nic Douglass.
Nic covered the main story in sailing this week, that Team Australia has withdrawn from the America's Cup. The reason why is a mystery that will no doubt develop more over the coming weeks, and Nic will keep you posted.
We heard a replay with Stacey Jackson, of Team SCA, as the Canary Islands race, the first official Volvo Ocean Race warmup, is now underway.
Nic also caught up with her roving reporter, Nina Curtis, Olympic silver medallist on that has been happening for her, both the ups and downs!
Finally the Sailor Girl covered some of her own adventures, including the snow, and a pretty amazing photo shoot with Ana Andres-Arroyo Photography on Rose Bay beach, at Nic's favourite time of day, sunset!
Next week, Nic will be doing a live broadcast for the start of the Sydney to Gold Coast race on 26 July as well as her normal show at 6pm AEST on 27 July.
13 July 2014: This week the Sailor Girl played a combination of news, and highlights.
Nic revealed she will be heading to Airlie Beach Race Week, and also broadcasting from the CYCA for the Sydney to Gold Coast Race in her opening news segment.
Jason Waterhouse was first up from the America's Cup base in San Fran last September for the Youth AC, then Jason's previous teammate, Tom Burton on his Laser sailing.
Silas Nolan, was the next highlight, recapping the win of Shockwave, a Reichel Pugh 72 in the Newport to Bermuda Race a few weeks ago.
Matt Chew called in live, to recap the Melbourne to Vanuatu race he did on the Reichel Pugh 66, Alive. The interview also covered Matt's record-breaking win in the Etchells midwinters.
It wouldn’t be a best of show without replaying the Sailor Girl’s interview with Iain Murray – a great opportunity to hear about what is ahead for Team Australia.
Last but not least, Nic wrapped up her week of adventures… on and off the water!
6 July 2014: So many adventures, and the weekend is just not enough time to squeeze them all in!
Great to catch up with Australia's newest World Champs, Jesse Dobie and Adrian Fawcett, who took out the F16 Worlds in Newport last week.
We managed to wake Jason Waterhouse up on the morning of his next regatta. He will be on the water with Lisa Darmanin on the Nacra this week, after wrapping up his first A Class regatta.
Nic wore pink for the show to support for Stace Jackson, who is part of the bow team for Team SCA, the all-female Volvo Ocean Race team. It is less than 100 days until the race kicks off!
The Sailor Girl played a clip from Match Cup Sweden 2009, five years to the day from when she took out the event with Katie Spithill on the helm, and Stacey Jackson on the bow, as well as Sam Boyd, Olivia Price and Jess Eastwell.
Nic also played a few clips and filled us in on her weekend on the water!

15 June 2014: An amazing show focussing on the talent that we have here in Australia. Darren 'Twirler' Jones, a show regular called in from the farm, ahead of going to the Farr 40 Worlds. Josh Chant, the founder of 33 South Racing had a chat with me about the scholarship program and where the program is headed (included an Extreme 40). Iain Murray, took some time out of his busy schedule to chat about the new North Sails radial Etchells mainsail and the America's Cup. I covered my day on the Harbour sailing in the CYCA winter series.

I also had a very serious story about M&M's to share from my adventures!

We also joined the host on her adventure on the Thompson 8, Zippier, as well as her interviews with strangers on their thoughts about sailing! Fun in the Autumn sun!
18 May 2014: Great to catch up with Andrea Francolini on all of his adventures on and off the water, including rebuilding schools in Pakistan. We also touched based with Ashley Stoddart live from the European Training Centre, following her fantastic results in Europe, and Matt Owen, the CEO of the Canberra Yacht Club on everything that is happening in the nation's capital, including some great work with under-privileged kids via the Buoyed Up program!

Heather MacFarlane and Chris Payne on their Thailand adventure on the Fireball, Josh McKnight on his Moth NSW State Champs win, Darren "Twirler" Jones on his second at the IRC Nationals, Chris Eddes on his fifth at the NS14 NSW State Champs, and my win at the NSW Tasar Champs! We also were introduced to our kite surfing adventurer, Simon "Marksman" Marks who will be kite surfing the entire west coast of Australia, unassisted, just as a warm up for his next adventure!
12 April 2014: The first Adventures of a Sailor Girl show!
