This podcast will give you real life tools and strategies to handle any aspect of The LDS Mission Experience. Whether a preparing missionary, currently serving, RM, or a Missionary Momma this podcast will help you with the "how" of doing hard things. We'll address your mental and emotional well-being, your confidence, decision making and so much more. It's easier than you think to overcome worry and anxiety, create epic unwavering confidence, step powerfully into your potential and embrace what's next.
In this powerful episode, I sit down with Braylon Bleak to discuss her experience of being sent home from her mission due to disobedience. This is a topic that is often not openly discussed, but Braylon's vulnerability and honesty provide invaluable insights.
Braylon shares her initial expectations of being the "perfect missionary" and the struggles she faced with perfectionism early on. She then courageously recounts the difficult decision to confess her mistakes to her mission president, the emotional pain of the repentance process, and the incredible support she received from her parents.
Through it all, Braylon's faith in the Atonement and her determination to remain strong in the gospel shine through. Braylon's story is a testament to the healing power of the Savior and the importance of facing our challenges head-on.
Her advice to others in similar situations - to trust in the Lord's plan and have the courage to walk the difficult path of repentance - is both inspiring and hopeful. This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking to better understand the complexities of the mission experience.
Braylen Bleak is from Laramie, Wyoming and a recently returned missionary. She is in school studying special education and elementary education, and runs her own photography business. The lyrics to that she shares on this episode are from the song Flowers - by Samantha Ebert

In pisode 117 - The Power of Possibility, I discuss the power of possibility and how our beliefs about what is possible can shape our actions and the outcomes we experience. I share a personal example of how I held onto the possibility of being able to provide training and support to missionaries, even when others doubted it was possible.
This possibility eventually led to an opportunity to virtually connect with and uplift a group of missionaries during a hurricane. I emphasize that God and our Heavenly Parents can only work within the framework of what we believe is possible. If we don't see the possibility for change or growth, we won't take the necessary actions to make it happen. I encourage listeners to open themselves up to the vast expanse of possibility available to them, rather than dwelling on their limitations.
By believing in what's possible, we allow God to work miracles in our lives. The key takeaway is that dreaming big and staying open to possibility is the first step. When we believe, all things become possible through God's power working in our lives. I hope this episode inspires listeners to embrace the possibilities before them.

In podcast Episode 176 - How To Like Something That You Don't Like, I share my personal journey of learning to like something I previously didn't enjoy - fall. I explain how a conversation with a friend made me realize that instead of dreading fall as a precursor to winter, I could focus on actually liking the fall season.
I outline several good reasons to change what you like, such as adding diversity and experience to your life, making things easier, and simply because "why not?" However, I also caution against changing what you like just to fit in or be accepted by others. Your unique preferences are valuable.
To help listeners learn to like something new, I provide seven steps: be curious, observe how others enjoy it, practice enjoying it, lean into it, change your language, be open to being wrong, and understand it may take time. I share my own experiences applying these steps to fall, and encourage everyone to try this experiment with something in their own lives.

In episode175, I dive deeper into the topics of anxiety and fear. As we approach the Halloween season, I reflect on how fear and anxiety are not inherently bad emotions - in fact, we often seek them out through spooky movies, haunted houses, and other thrilling experiences.
However, I acknowledge that unprocessed anxiety can escalate into more debilitating emotions like panic and terror. I share a message I received from a concerned parent, whose son is struggling with anxiety but is hesitant to open up to his church leaders about it, fearing they may see it as disqualifying him from serving a mission. I emphasize that anxiety is a normal human emotion, not an illness, and that we need to do a better job of normalizing these feelings, especially for youth and young adults. Leaders and loved ones should create safe spaces for people to be honest about their fears and anxieties, offering support instead of judgment.
Ultimately, I encourage listeners to look to Christ, who can provide the courage to face our doubts and fears, even if He doesn't immediately take them away. By relying on the Savior's plan and Atonement, we can navigate our very human emotions with more self-compassion and resilience.

In episode 174 - When You're Asked to Teach, I share some important insights about creating a safe, loving environment when you are asked to teach, whether that's in a church setting, on a mission, or in any other context.
I emphasize the importance of moving away from a "quiz" mentality and instead fostering open conversations where everyone feels welcome to share their thoughts and experiences. I highlight the Savior's example of teaching each person according to their unique needs, and how we can emulate that by truly understanding where people are coming from before trying to teach them.
The goal should be to create an atmosphere of unconditional love and acceptance, where the Spirit can freely flow. I encourage listeners to evaluate their own teaching approaches and consider whether they are cultivating this kind of safe, uplifting environment. By doing so, we can help everyone feel inspired, supported, and able to contribute meaningfully to the conversation, just as the Savior did. The key is moving away from a focus on "right" and "wrong" answers, and instead opening up the dialogue for all to participate.

Episode 173 - Am I Doing a Good Job. In this episode, I, Jennie Dildine, the LDS mission coach, discuss the mindset shift around the question "Am I doing a good job?"
I share my personal experiences with self-validation and the human brain's tendency to focus on problems. I emphasize the importance of finding more believable and true thoughts, rather than trying to force positive thinking. I encourage listeners to shift their focus from seeking external validation to recognizing that what they are doing matters, regardless of whether they feel they are doing a good job.
I also discuss the importance of self-acceptance, effort, and the process of growth and transformation. I provide listeners with a new free resource, the "Podcast Roadmap," to help navigate the podcast episodes. I encourage listeners to download the freebie, leave a review, and reach out to me if they need support or have questions about the mission experience.

In Episode 172. Resolving Differences, I explore the important topic of resolving differences. I delve into the brain's natural tendency to categorize things as "good" or "bad," which can lead to divisiveness, especially in our current climate. I highlight scriptural teachings that emphasize Christ's inclusivity and the invitation for all to come unto Him.
I provide practical steps to combat this divisiveness, such as understanding that we may not know someone's full story, creating a safe space for diverse perspectives, and gently addressing divisive language. Importantly, I encourage listeners to let go of the need to convince others and instead focus on broadening their circles to include people with different beliefs and experiences. By embracing our differences and making room for everyone, I suggest we can create a more unified and Christ-like community.
In conclusion, I emphasize that the best way to resolve differences is not to try to resolve them, but rather to understand that we are all part of the same human experience and should welcome everyone into our circles with love and understanding.

In episode 171, I talk about the emotional roller coaster that can happen when supporting a loved one, whether that's a missionary, companion, spouse, or child.
I share why our brains are wired to want to mirror others' emotions and try to "fix" their problems, but explain why that can actually be exhausting and counterproductive.
Instead, I suggest ways to step off the emotional roller coaster, such as recognizing when you're mirroring their emotions, reminding yourself that their experience is theirs, and accessing more grounded emotions like curiosity, acceptance, and compassion.
By getting off the ride, you can be a calmer, more effective support rather than getting caught up in the ups and downs. I share how this allows you to show up in a more useful way and avoid blaming yourself when your loved one is struggling.

Hey everyone, here on podcast episode 170, I'm excited to dive into the topic of shame in this episode. Shame is a complex emotion that many of us struggle with, especially during the unique experiences of serving a mission.
In this episode, I explore the differences between shame and guilt, highlighting how they can be intertwined yet distinct. I share insights from Brene Brown's research, outlining the four elements of shame resilience: recognizing shame, practicing critical awareness, reaching out to others, and speaking openly about shame.
By understanding shame as a natural human emotion, rather than something to be feared or avoided, we can learn to process it in a healthy way. I encourage listeners to approach shame with self-compassion, recognizing that we all experience it and that it doesn't make us inherently flawed or broken.
Throughout the episode, I emphasize the importance of normalizing the discussion around shame and other emotions. By sharing our experiences and supporting one another, we can reduce the isolation and shame that often accompanies these feelings. Whether you're preparing for a mission, currently serving, or a returned missionary, I hope these insights empower you to navigate the emotional landscape of the mission experience with greater understanding and resilience.

Here on episode 169 we are talking about 'When a Missionary Is Having a Tough Time'. As the LDS mission coach, I'm excited to share this episode on supporting missionaries who are having a tough time. Whether you're a current missionary, a returned missionary, or a missionary parent, this episode is for you.
I recently had the opportunity to attend the Restore faith gathering, where I connected with many of you and heard your powerful mission stories. Those conversations reinforced the importance of understanding and compassion, as we all have our own burdens and struggles to navigate.
In this episode, I aim to provide perspective on how we can better support our companions, roommates, or loved ones who are facing challenges during their mission experience. The key is to avoid viewing their struggles as a burden or an inconvenience.
Instead, we must approach it with love, kindness, and a willingness to help carry their cross, just as Simon of Cyrene did for Jesus. By focusing on learning the lessons we need to learn, rather than what's not getting done, we can embody the Savior's example of bearing one another's burdens. I hope this episode inspires you to be a source of comfort and support for those facing difficulties, remembering that we all have our own battles to fight, and that's okay.

In episode 168. Look How Far You've Come, I share an important perspective shift that can make a big difference in your mission experience and beyond - focusing on your gains rather than the gap.
I was inspired by a message from my coach, who encouraged our group to celebrate our progress and achievements. So often, we have a tendency to fixate on our shortcomings and how far we have left to go. But I explain how this mindset can actually hold us back, creating feelings of discouragement and inadequacy. Instead, I suggest we "measure backwards" - looking at how far we've come rather than just focusing on the distance to our goals.
By reflecting on our past accomplishments, even the small ones, we can build genuine confidence and motivation to keep moving forward. I share personal examples of how this has played out with my missionary clients, helping them recognize their impressive growth. I believe this gain-focused mindset is key for thriving during and after your mission, so I encourage you to give it a try.

Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share this episode all about rubber band emotions. As the LDS mission coach, I've noticed that emotions play a huge role in our lives, especially for those preparing for, serving, or returning from a mission.
One of the key things I've learned is that trying to avoid or postpone uncomfortable emotions is like trying to hold a rubber band stretched out - it just creates more tension and pressure until it snaps back. Instead, I encourage you to lean into those emotions, give them a name, and let them move through your body. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but I promise it's so much better than the emotional letdown that can happen when we try to ignore what we're really feeling.
Whether you're a future missionary, a current missionary, or a returned missionary, I hope this episode will empower you to embrace the full range of human emotions. Remember, there are no "good" or "bad" emotions - they're just information your brain and body are trying to give you. So let's dive in and learn how to process those rubber band emotions with grace and self-trust. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Episode 166 - Back to Real Life, after an incredible 3-week family vacation in Europe, I've been navigating the transition back to my "real life" routine.
As exciting as the trip was, I've found myself feeling exhausted, unmotivated, and craving the consistency of my normal schedule. I've realized this ebb and flow between craving novelty and craving stability is a natural part of the human experience. Sometimes we long for the excitement of new adventures, while other times we just want the comfort of the familiar.
In this episode, I share strategies to compassionately navigate these transition periods, whether you're returning home from a mission, starting a new job, or simply adjusting to a new semester. The key is to avoid judging yourself and to find ways to introduce novelty into the mundane while also allowing yourself grace during the more routine phases.
Above all, I encourage embracing the "green grass" of wherever you are, rather than always thinking the grass is greener elsewhere. By finding joy and purpose in both the exciting and the ordinary, we can move through life's ebbs and flows with more ease and fulfillment. I hope these insights help you as you navigate your own "back to real life" moments.

In this episode, I dive deep into the concept of "believing it's enough" - a crucial part of the mission experience that many struggle with. As an LDS mission coach, I've found that this idea of feeling adequate and believing you're doing enough is one of the trickiest parts for both preparing and returned missionaries.
I share personal insights and analogies to help listeners overcome the natural human tendency to doubt ourselves and feel like we're falling short. Whether you're getting ready to serve, currently on a mission, or navigating life after your mission, the message is the same - you are enough. I encourage listeners to embrace their imperfections, show up authentically, and trust that their efforts and presence make a difference, even on the days they don't feel particularly "majestic."
Rooted in principles of faith, self-compassion and the power of our thoughts, this episode aims to empower listeners to choose empowering beliefs about their worth and capabilities. By believing it's enough, we can find the fuel to keep going, grow, and make a meaningful impact - both on our missions and in every area of our lives.

Episode 164 - ADHD Strategies for Missionaries and RMs with Kamden Hainsworth In this episode, I had an insightful conversation with Kamden Hainsworth, an ADHD coach and advocate.
We discussed the unique challenges that missionaries and returned missionaries with ADHD can face, and Kamden shared valuable strategies and insights to help support them. Kamden shared her own experiences serving a mission in Minnesota and the struggles she faced due to her underdeveloped prefrontal cortex, which can lead to issues with attention, focus, organization, and emotional regulation.
She emphasized the importance of understanding ADHD as a neurodevelopmental condition, not a deficit, and the need for flexibility and self-compassion when managing the demands of missionary work. Kamden provided practical tips for missionaries with ADHD, such as building in buffer time, prioritizing personal strengths, and learning to manage rejection sensitivity.
She also encouraged listeners to view ADHD as a gift, with unique abilities and potential. Overall, this episode offers a compassionate and empowering perspective on navigating the mission experience with ADHD.

Episode 163 - Rewrite Your Script In this episode, I share the powerful concept of rewriting your personal narrative to empower yourself.
I open by recounting a dramatic story from my past - a situation involving fraud, lawsuits, and financial turmoil that could have easily been the plot of a movie. This experience taught me that everyone has a unique story, and the way we tell that story can greatly impact our healing and growth.
I then share examples from my own life, including navigating my son's autism diagnosis and my daughter's major surgery, where I was able to reframe my perspective from victim to hero.
I want to encourage listeners to do the same - to identify difficult experiences from their past, whether on their mission or elsewhere, and consciously rewrite the script. Rather than seeing ourselves as weak or incapable, we can honor our courage, perseverance, and strength in overcoming challenges.
This can be a profound healing process that allows us to move forward and create the life we want. I close by discussing the importance of integrating our past experiences, rather than trying to simply "move past" them, as they have shaped who we are today.

Episode 162 - Into the Unknown In this episode, I discuss the common fear of the unknown that many missionaries and returned missionaries face. I emphasize the importance of preparing for missions through my Mission Prep Plus program, which helps equip missionaries with the coping skills and tools they need to navigate the uncertainty of missionary work.
I share tips for embracing uncertainty and growth, such as avoiding questions and "what-ifs" and instead using statements to reframe thoughts and actions. I encourage listeners to take only the next step, stay present in the moment, and view "I don't know" thoughts as exciting rather than problematic. I also stress the value of getting comfortable with uncomfortable emotions to build self-reliance on the mission.
Finally, I emphasize that the only constant in life is change, and the only certain thing is uncertainty. I encourage listeners to face the unknown with courage, knowing that discomfort is a necessary part of growth. By choosing the "flavor" of fear that moves them towards their goals, listeners can overcome worry and anxiety and create the life they desire.

Hey everyone, it's Jennie Dildine here with another episode of the LDS Mission Podcast. Today I wanted to discuss the idea of practice and whether it truly makes perfect.
We've all heard the saying "practice makes perfect", but is that really the case? In this episode, I share some of my own experiences where I felt very confident and competent in something, only to later struggle with doubts and insecurities again. I discuss how it's normal for humans to have ups and downs in their personal growth and development.
While practicing is important, true perfection is impossible since we're always changing and evolving. Instead, I suggest viewing practice as a continuous process of growth and change rather than something that leads to a finished product. I hope you'll tune in to learn more about reframing how we think about practice and personal improvement.

Hey everyone, thanks for tuning into this episode of the LDS Mission Podcast. Today I wanted to discuss the importance of asking powerful questions as a missionary.
While our one job is to offer thoughts with love, I've realized we can do even more by also asking questions with compassion and love. By understanding people's perspectives through questions, we can better meet their needs.
I shared some examples of how assumptions without questions can cause discomfort or misunderstandings. My advice is to directly and humbly ask people what they need in a way that makes them feel heard.
As missionaries, we should also ask ourselves loving questions instead of self-criticism. And don't forget to learn from those you serve. Whether you're prepping to serve, currently serving, or a returned missionary, I hope these insights help as you strive to offer thoughts and gain understanding through questions, with the goal of lifting others. Be sure to grab the free resources mentioned to enhance your mission experience. Thanks for listening!

Episode 159 - Wanting and Willingness
In this episode, I discuss the difference between wanting and willingness. I share personal experiences where I have learned to say no to things I don't want to do, in order to better understand my own desires.
However, I also emphasize the importance of being willing to do things even when we don't want to, through sacrifice. This willingness allows us to have ownership over our experiences.
I relate this concept to serving a mission, encouraging missionaries and returned missionaries to reflect on their own wants and needs, while also being willing to overcome challenges through sacrifice.

Hey everyone, it's Jennie Dildine here with another episode of the LDS Mission Podcast. On today's episode, I wanted to share some leadership tips that I've learned from my own experiences serving in various callings and leadership positions over the years.
I talk about the importance of recognizing that there are both "visionaries" and "implementers" on any team or project, and how each person brings a unique set of skills, talents, and perspectives. I also discuss some of the challenges that visionary leaders can face in forgetting the day-to-day realities of implementing a vision.
I provide over 10 specific tips for how visionaries can help implementers feel supported, valued and successful in their roles. Whether you're preparing to serve a mission, currently serving, or have already returned, I hope you'll find value in thinking about how to apply principles of empowering leadership.

I talk about how holding space can help missionaries and leaders create a supportive environment by allowing others to have their own experiences and emotions without judgment.
Some ways to hold space include being curious about others' perspectives, accepting of differences, speaking to the full human experience, and avoiding comparisons or dismissing what people say happened to them.
I hope that by practicing holding space this week in your interactions, it can help you better connect with and support those around you on your mission or in your church service. This episode of the LDS Mission Podcast features an inspiring interview with Kate Kilpack about her experience serving a service mission after facing unexpected challenges early in her proselyting mission.
Kate Killpack is a diligent missionary who started off her mission in June of 2023 in the Mexico City MTC when her mission experience took a couple of unexpected turns. After struggling with OCD scrupulosity and going through a knee surgery, she has figured out that God sometimes has a different plan for His missionaries.
Kate is from Lindon, Utah and enjoys hiking, skiing, and being in the sun. In the future she hopes to become an elementary school teacher.
Kate shares openly about struggling with OCD scrupulosity and a knee injury in the MTC that led her to transfer to a service mission close to home. She discusses the valuable service she provided in various sites and her journey to regain confidence in herself and her ability to return to proselyting.
Kate offers an insightful perspective and advice for any missionary or returned missionary facing unexpected bumps and turns in their mission or post-mission journey. Her powerful testimony of God's perfect plan and the Atonement's ability to transform our weaknesses will uplift and encourage all listeners.

In this episode of the LDS Mission Podcast, I discuss the secret to "how" when it comes to navigating life's challenges and transitions. Whether it's preparing for a mission, college, or parenthood, most of us don't have a clear manual to follow.
However, we can overcome uncertainty by learning to manage our emotions, trust ourselves, and view life as a great experiment rather than a test. I encourage listeners to take the next small step towards their goals without needing to know the full path ahead of time.
Ultimately, we each discover the "how" through actively participating in life's experiments rather than waiting for clear instructions.
For anyone preparing for a mission or college, navigating post-mission life, or simply wanting to better handle life's uncertainties, I hope this podcast provides a fresh perspective on facing challenges through experimentation and self-compassion rather than expectations or tests.
My goal is to help listeners feel empowered to keep moving forward even when they feel unsure of the path ahead.

Hey everyone, it's Jennie here with episode 150 of the LDS Mission Podcast.
Today I wanted to discuss the power of our thoughts and how we can empower ourselves through more positive self-talk.
As missionaries, we often experience doubts, worries and insecurities. But did you know the thoughts we choose to think can significantly impact our confidence and outlook?
In this episode I share how our default thoughts can sometimes be unhelpful, and offer alternatives focused on personal empowerment rather than external factors. I also discuss the importance of using "I statements" to build ourselves up regardless of circumstances.
If you're feeling discouraged or unsure of yourself, give this episode a listen to discover how switching up your self-talk could be the game-changer you've been looking for.
I hope you walk away feeling motivated to embrace thoughts that strengthen your sense of agency and ability to handle whatever comes your way.

In this episode we discuss the importance of feeling heard and valued, both on your mission and in other situations. I talk about how feeling unheard can lead to a lack of agency and feelings of isolation.
But there are respectful ways to advocate for yourself and have a voice without being confrontational. I also share insights on understanding where others are coming from and creating safety, vision, and love within yourself first before relying on others.

Hey everyone, Jennie here with the latest episode of the LDS Mission Podcast. On this week's episode, I wanted to discuss the importance of viewing our emotions in a positive light. Rather than labeling feelings as "good" or "bad", I encourage listeners to think of emotions as helpful signals that can guide us.
I share several analogies, such as comparing emotions to smoke detectors, that are meant to keep us safe rather than trigger shame. Tune in to learn how emotions can reveal what matters to us, show us what's possible, and even spur us to positive action.
My hope is that reframing how we think about feelings will help all missionaries to navigate their experiences with more confidence and self-compassion. I'll be sharing some of my favorite tools and strategies, so don't miss out on this insightful discussion!

Some key things I discussed were the importance of asking yourself what you need in each moment and making sure your processes energize you rather than deplete you.
I want to encourag listeners to believe in their own unique way of doing things and reminded missionaries and leaders not to make assumptions but to communicate directly about needs. I hope you each discover what fuels you and allows you to make the biggest impact in your own way.

Episode 145 - We Rejoice in Christ
Hey everyone, I'm so glad you joined me for this Easter episode of the LDS Mission Podcast. In this episode, I discussed the importance of focusing on Jesus Christ and His grace in our lives and missionary work.
I wanted to be explicit in my views and feelings of Christ and so I share my personal testimony of Christ and reflected on scriptures like Second Nephi 25 that teach about looking to Him for salvation.
For those of you preparing for a mission, currently serving, or already home, I hope this podcast helps you feel Christ's love and example as you dedicate your service to Him. And for all my listeners, I hope the messages of Easter help you feel hope. Wishing you all a very happy Easter!

Episode 144 - What Makes Missionaries Spiral
In this episode, I explore some of the common reasons why missionaries may struggle or experience downward spirals during their missions.
Drawing on my own experiences and observations working with missionaries, I discuss how our natural human experiences of feeling sad, overwhelmed or stressed can easily lead us to add extra negative meaning and self-criticism if we're not careful.
However, I encourage listeners that it's possible to avoid these spirals by stopping our tendency to make assumptions or connections between unrelated things.
Some practical tips I share include questioning our meaning-making, validating our own feelings, and addressing thoughts and issues separately.
My hope is that missionaries and returned missionaries alike can be kinder to themselves by recognizing when they've spiraled and choosing to lift themselves with understanding rather than criticism.

Episode 143 - How to Create Your Own Luck
In this episode, I discuss how shifting your mindset can help you create your own luck. I talk about how our thoughts and beliefs influence our perception of luck, for better or for worse.
Some key strategies I explore include visualizing your future self who has already achieved their goals, and bringing that positive feeling to the present. I also discuss the importance of taking inspired action while also embracing unexpected outcomes.
Through personal stories, I illustrate how challenging limiting beliefs and embracing new perspectives can open up opportunities for growth. My hope is that listeners walk away feeling empowered to overcome worries and doubts, and to achieve their goals through positive thinking and a growth mindset.

The LDS Mission Podcast, Episode 142 - Be Kind to Your Toddler Brain
In this of the LDS Mission Podcast, I, your host Jennie Dildine, take a deep dive into the fascinating concept of the "toddler brain" and its impact on those gearing up for missions or currently out in the field. I want to shed light on the dual nature of our brains—there's the higher brain that plans and reasons, and then there's the lower, more primitive part, or as I affectionately call it, the "toddler brain," which is all about safety and steering clear of pain.
I get real about how this toddler brain tends to rear its head when we're faced with new challenges or experiences, stirring up fears and doubts. But here's the twist: instead of seeing it as a problem, I urge you to befriend your toddler brain. Treat it like you would a scared little one—offer patience, understanding, and self-talk to ease the worries.
Throughout the episode, I share my insights on why embracing this toddler brain is crucial for personal growth, especially during mission experiences. As we wrap things up, I encourage you to check out the show notes for additional resources and freebies that can help you navigate the unique challenges of missionary life. So, buckle up, embrace your toddler brain, and let's navigate this mission journey together!

Episode 141 - Internal and External Reference Points
I'm excited to share today's topic - Internal and External Reference Points. As missionaries and returned missionaries, it's so easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others and seeking validation externally.
In this episode, I introduce the vacuum concept. Using this concept, it will help us all to learn to look inside ourselves for validation, rather than seeking it externally.
Making decisions and determining your worth from a place of inner assurance is challenging but so important, both on your mission and beyond. I hope you'll give these tools a try to begin looking internally. As always, please reach out if you have any other questions.

Episode 140 - About "Feeling Better"
The main focus in this week's episode, is on personal growth and managing emotions while serving a mission. I talk about some of the challenges with only focusing on "feeling better" and argue for the importance of "getting better at feeling" a range of emotions.
I share how understanding that thoughts influence feelings helped me when raising my son on the autism spectrum. I encourage missionaries to accept all emotions as part of God's plan, rather than trying to change how they feel.
To illustrate balancing both positive and negative emotions, I use the analogy of an "emotion soup" and encourage adding ingredients like compassion and acceptance to make uncomfortable feelings more tolerable.
In this episode, I invite listeners to expand their capacity for all emotions, including difficult ones, to improve their well-being and potential. I emphasize the value of getting comfortable with discomfort to gain greater life experiences.
Overall, I hope this provides tools for missionaries and families to navigate emotions in a healthy, growth-oriented way. My goal is to encourage fully embracing feelings to serve with confidence

In this episode of the LDS Mission Podcast, episode number 138, we explore the intriguing question: Is love a verb?
We delve into thoughts on love, sharing some personal insights along the way. In this episode, we challenge the common notion of love as an action. Instead we propose that love is, in fact, a feeling. One that we create within ourselves through our thoughts.
Drawing on the self-coaching model, we focus on remembering that thoughts lead to feelings, and it's the emotion of love that fuels our actions. We discuss the impact of this perspective on relationships. But we also highlight the importance of understanding that we cannot control or force others to feel love through our actions.
We conclude by encouraging listeners to focus on being "heart smart." Fostering love not just for others but also for oneself and for God. This episode provides a fresh and empowering perspective on the nature of love, urging listeners to embrace the idea that love is a feeling, not just a verb.

In today's episode of the LDS Mission Podcast (episode number 136), we delve into the intriguing topic of "Emotion Work for Goals." With a mission-focused perspective, I want to emphasize the significance of understanding not just the outward facets of mission work but also the internal aspects that often remain unseen. Throughout the episode, I bring attention to the need for missionaries to engage in a form of emotional preparedness.
Today, I want to challenge your conventional beliefs about the emotions required to achieve goals, debunking the idea that one must constantly feel motivated, excited, or confident. Instead, try for embracing a wider range of emotions, including disappointment, guilt, and frustration, recognizing them as integral parts of the journey towards success. I have a fresh approach of three alternative emotions as effective drivers for goal attainment: curiosity, commitment, and certainty. These emotions can serve as powerful motivators, especially during challenging times.
I want to encourage all of us to not only to accept the full spectrum of emotions but also to consider the alternative fuels of curiosity, commitment, and certainty as they pursue their goals in various aspects of life.

I recently taught Relief Society on a conference talk titled "We Are His Children" by Elder Christophe G. Giraud-Carrier. I invite you to think of how you see each member in your family. How you might see and perceive each other. All of the dynamics involved. I extend this concept to our relationship with our Heavenly Parents and the rest of humanity. Explaining how the same dynamics can apply on a broader scale.
Drawing from Elder Carrier's talk, I share examples of individuals who were seen differently by others than how our Heavenly Parents saw them. I also emphasize the importance of recognizing that our Heavenly Parents see us differently than how we see ourselves or how others see us.
Through this discussion, I want to encourage all listeners to reflect on how you see and perceive others in your lives. As well as how your see yourselves. By recognizing the unique perspective of our Heavenly Parents, I believe it can help shift our own perceptions and enhance our relationships with others.

There is Work Worth Doing, and maybe work that is not as important. As we are on the brink of 2024, what we originally thought our goals should be, might not be the goal that helps us achieve the most growth and change. The work worth doing might not be hitting the gym hard to achieve your weight loss goals, but rather deciding to stay home once in awhile and not workout. Real growth takes examining those well worn pathways in your brain.
Our brains love PATTERNS, even if they don't serve us very well. So, sometimes taking a look at the patterns that our lower brain defaults to can be crucial. We can focus on changing that pattern to something that will actually serve you.
Everyone's work worth doing is going to be different. So don't compare yourself to anyone else. We are all infinitely different and therefore will all have our own and different work to work on.

In this episode, we explore the concept of the three versions of ourselves - past, present, and future. The inspiration for today's episode came from watching the movie "Spirited" after Thanksgiving. This movie has a modern take on Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol. The movie follows a similar storyline, where Ryan Reynold's character is visited by ghosts who try to redeem and change their ways.
To honor and appreciate our past selves. Be grateful for your past selves and acknowledge that you wouldn't be who you are without them.
We then move onto our present selves and future selves.
Overall, this episode explores the importance of honoring and appreciating each version of ourselves - past, present, and future - and I want encourage listeners to practice gratitude for their past selves and find joy in the present and hope for the future.

In this episode, we explore the concept of self-care. Why it is important. Especially during this time of the year when there is often a focus on others. We draw inspiration from the example of Christ and how he prioritized self-care in order to fulfill his mission. Self-care is not just about indulging in bubble baths or other activities, but also about how we think about ourselves and fill our cup first before being able to giving to others.
We discuss the connection between self-care and self-love. Emphasizing that self-love is essential for increasing the vibration of love on the planet. By practicing self-love, we not only benefit ourselves, but also contribute to a more loving and caring world. Self-care involves cultivating thoughts and emotions about ourselves that align with the fruits of the Spirit, such as kindness, longsuffering, gentleness, and love unfeigned.
While being selfless and concerned about the needs of others is admirable, we also need to prioritize our own well-being and avoid losing ourselves in the process. It is important to find a balance between selflessness and self-care, ensuring that our acts of kindness come from a place of love rather than obligation or resentment. Being self-centered, selfish, or self-serving, on the other hand, involves a lack of consideration for others and a focus solely on personal profit or pleasure.
When we neglect our own self-care, we may start seeking validation and love from others, leading to people-pleasing, a drop in confidence, and perfectionism. By prioritizing self-care and engaging in positive thoughts and emotions about ourselves, we can avoid relying on external sources for validation and instead share love with others. This is why self-love and self-care are crucial. They allow us to generate love from within, just as Christ and our Heavenly Parents have done.

This time of year, I think can present a unique and very vast myriad or continuum of emotions. Especially if you're away from home and if there has been something hard for you during this time of year in the past. I, myself, had a week kind of like that last week, where it was just really hard. It got me to thinking about what I wanted to talk about on this week's podcast. Which is, A Guide To Emotional Well Being. By the end, i hope that you'll have some ideas and some tools that I've seen help me in my life as well as my clients.

In this episode, we talk about the common fear of not knowing enough. The inspiration for this episode comes from an email that I received from someone who is preparing to leave on a mission. The person expressed their concern that they don't understand the gospel enough to teach someone on a mission. We explore the idea of knowing enough and I offer two options to deal with this fear.
The first option is, being okay with not knowing. Our brains naturally try to avoid pain and uncertainty, which can lead to feeling stuck. However, embracing uncertainty and being comfortable with not knowing can actually lead to more success in life. I challenge all of us to challenge the need for certainty and be open to the unknown.
The second option is focusing on what we do know instead of what we don't know. By focusing on what we do know, such as personal values and determination, we can build confidence and overcome the fear of not knowing enough.
Overall, I hope this episode helps alleviate the pressure of feeling like we don't know enough. And that you can take action despite our uncertainties. Embrace uncertainty and focus on your personal strengths as a means of overcoming fear and achieving success.

In this episode, we explore the concept of "thought ladders" and how they can help us shift from negative thoughts to more positive ones. Remembering that our thoughts create our feelings, which in turn drive our actions and create our results. So, if we have a negative thought like "my life is a mess," it can lead to discouragement, self-judgment, and a feeling of being stuck.
However, simply trying to replace this thought with a positive one like "I love my life" may not be effective if the negative thought is deeply ingrained in our minds. Our brain is like a well-worn highway, and it takes time and effort to deconstruct that highway and create new pathways. That's where thought ladders come in.
Thought ladders are a series of gradual, baby thoughts towards a new thought that we want to believe. Instead of trying to make a drastic leap from negative to positive, we take small steps that are easier for our brain to accept. For example, if we start with the thought "my life is a mess," a ladder thought could be "I have a life" and then to "some people love their lives," "some parts of my life have been good in the past. Maybe I can again." To, "I love my life sometimes." These thoughts open up a little more hope and possibility, and as we continue to believe and practice these ladder thoughts, the old negative thought naturally dissolves away.
Thought ladders work because they allow our brain to move in the direction we want to go. But at a pace that is more manageable. It's difficult for our brain to make sudden shifts from one extreme to another. So taking small steps, helps us gradually shift our perspective. Additionally, these ladder thoughts help us feel emotions that are more useful and productive.
Overall, thought ladders provide a practical and effective approach for changing our thought patterns. And also creating a more positive mindset. Small steps and gradually shifting our perspective we can move from negative thoughts to more empowering ones. Which ultimately improving our feelings, actions, and results in life.

In this episode of "The Doing Diet," we explore the idea that we often tie our worth and value to the things we do. Using examples from some of my clients, who express fear and anxiety about not being able to do certain activities. Such as following a rigid schedule or going on a run. Upon further discussion, it becomes clear that their concern is not about the outcome of these activities, but rather how they would treat themselves or think about themselves if they didn't do them.
Sometimes these activities can become almost ritualistic, and we use them as a way to feel good about ourselves. However, it's not the activities themselves that give us worth and value, but rather the thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves when we engage in these activities. I encourage us to consider if there is something in our own lives that we feel we have to do in order to be a good person, and to pay attention to the thoughts and beliefs that arise when we don't do these things.
The "Doing Diet," which involves purposely cutting out certain activities in order to separate our worth and value from what we do. Let's start practicing the belief that we are still good people with value and worth, even when we don't engage in these activities. I recently challenged a client to run one less day per week and to practice untangling their worth from running on that day.
Overall, in this episode we explore the idea of separating our worth and value from the activities we engage in, and I encourages all of us to practice self-acceptance and self-worth regardless of what we do or don't do.

In this week's podcast episode, we discusses what makes up exceptional leadership. We start by talking about my personal experience of growing my business. I transitioned from working with individual clients to hiring coaches and mentors to expand the reach of helping missionaries. I had to go through multiple identity shifts to become a boss and leader to my new team. I recently attended a life coach mastermind event. I was able to listen to a talk on leadership by Erica Royal, the CEO of The Life Coach School. This talk resonated with me because it challenged my preconceived notions of what a leader should look like. So in this episode, we discuss how some leadership could be harmful and seen as controlling. Sometimes it's beneficial to redefine our own understanding of leadership in becoming a leader.
Several key points from Erica's talk about exceptional leadership is, vulnerability, rather than strength, is a crucial aspect of leadership. The importance of being curious and willing to learn, instead of having all the answers. Being open-minded and transparent is more valuable than being decisive. Professionalism is not the only defining factor of leadership. Just to name a few.
Overall, in this episode we dive into the concept of exceptional leadership. Challenging traditional beliefs and highlighting the importance of qualities such as vulnerability, curiosity, open-mindedness, and transparency. I encourage listeners to reevaluate their own understanding of leadership and consider these alternative perspectives.

In this episode, we explore why we should stop chasing happiness. I received an email from a missionary mom, who expressed concern about her son. Her son believed happiness was always in the future, even when he could potentially be feeling it in the present. This prompted me to dive deeper into the concept of happiness. What it actually is? How to obtain it? and What prevents us from recognizing when we are happy?
We discuss idea that we as humans don't want to just be half happy or half frustrated. We want to experience a full range of emotions. Our desire for happiness stems from our innate need to feel all emotions. And happiness is not something that can be chased or obtained externally. Instead, happiness is an emotion that is created within our bodies and can only be experienced in the present moment.
Happiness is an emotion felt in the body. It can be experienced by getting out of our heads and into our bodies. Through this process, one can discover the physical sensations associated with happiness, such as warmth or a specific color. Happiness cannot be given or received from others, as it is an individual experience.
In this episode we also touch on the obstacles that prevent us from accessing or noticing happiness. These include viewing happiness as a destination or future event. Chasing happiness through external circumstances, and not allowing ourselves to be happy when others are not. The importance of learning how to love oneself and others even when happiness is not present.
Overall, we aim to shift the perspective on happiness and to stop chasing it as an external goal. Instead, the focus on being present. Embracing and experiencing the full range of emotions, we learn to love ourselves and others through all of life's ups and downs. Stop chasing happiness, it's felt within our bodies.

In this podcast episode, we discuss the usefulness of asking "why" questions. I begin by explaining how our brains naturally gravitate towards asking why, as it keeps us in a state of questioning ourselves and our circumstances. However, constantly asking why can lead to confusion and hinder our ability to move forward.
I use an analogy of being on a boat in the middle of a lake to illustrate how asking why can keep us stuck and prevent us from taking action. They describe how certain emotions, such as confusion, worry, and overwhelm, can act like a fog that keeps us comfortably sitting in the boat without having to put in the effort to row towards our goals.
We then dive into specific examples of unhelpful why questions, such as asking why certain things happen or why we feel a certain way. These questions only lead to more questioning and judgment of ourselves and our circumstances. I emphasize that while these emotions may feel indulgent, they do not serve us in moving forward.
On the other hand, we highlight the importance of asking the question "what is my why?" or understanding our purpose. This type of why question propels us forward and helps us focus on what we want to create in the future. Examples of useful why questions include wanting to make a difference for others, transforming oneself, or aligning with who we want to be.
We conclude the podcast episode by acknowledging that we may not always have the answers to why questions about our past actions or experiences. However, having a clear understanding of our purpose can provide motivation and guidance in challenging times. The importance of our values help determine our why and how we show up in the world.

In this episode, we discuss the challenges of learning a new language or any new skill. Many people feel overwhelmed, stressed, and embarrassed when faced with the task of learning a new language. Our brains often expect us to be proficient in something before we even begin, creating unnecessary pressure and hindering our learning process.
We can relate this to other areas of life, such as starting a new job or learning to drive. Our brains tend to rely on past experiences to determine what we can achieve in the future. However, it is important to remember that it is normal to not know how to do something if we have never done it before.
The same applies to learning a language. It is understandable that we may struggle with speaking a new language when we have been speaking our native language for most of our lives. It takes time, practice, and patience to become proficient in a new language.
To overcome the negative thoughts and emotions that can hinder our progress, it is important to challenge our beliefs and expectations. We should let go of the pressure to be immediately good at something and instead embrace the learning process.
In the podcast we also highlight some common thoughts to watch out for, such as comparing ourselves to others and expecting quick proficiency. These thoughts can lead to feelings of pressure, stress, overwhelm, confusion, worry, and embarrassment, which are not conducive to learning.
Ultimately, it is important to remember that learning a new language or any new skill is a journey. It is okay to make mistakes and take the time to practice and improve. By letting go of unrealistic expectations and embracing the process, we can approach language learning with a positive mindset and achieve our goals.

In this episode, I share the story behind the creation of Mission Prep Plus, a program designed to support missionaries before, during, and after their missions. My motivation to create this program stemmed from witnessing the struggles faced by my own sons' upon returning from their missions. They realized that while much emphasis is placed on preparing missionaries for their time in the field, there is often a lack of guidance and support for their transition back home.
Through my journey of working in the return missionary to current missionary space, I began receiving requests from parents and missionaries seeking help and guidance. This led to the development of Mission Prep Plus, a program aimed at providing missionaries with the mental and emotional tools they need to navigate the challenges they may face on their missions. The host believes that by equipping missionaries with these tools before they leave, it can help prevent crises and struggles during their time in the field.
Mission Prep Plus is ideally designed for individuals in their senior year of high school until right before they leave on their mission. The program focuses on teaching missionaries how to manage themselves mentally and emotionally, so they can show up as their best selves regardless of the circumstances they encounter. The program aims to address the common challenges missionaries face, such as self-doubt and anxiety. By helping missionaries build confidence and resilience, Mission Prep Plus aims to improve the overall mission experience.
The program operates similarly to an online Missionary Training Center (MTC), providing preparation for missionaries' mental and emotional well-being. It includes weekly sessions led by RMs and experienced coaches. These coaches teach coaching tools and techniques and provide a supportive environment for missionaries to ask questions and receive guidance. Additionally, the program includes classes that will be led by me, on specific topics relevant to missionary life, such as dealing with difficult companions or managing anxiety.
One unique aspect of Mission Prep Plus is that missionaries have ongoing access to the host and their coaches throughout their entire mission. This support is provided through a dedicated email address, allowing missionaries to reach out for guidance and assistance whenever needed. By offering this ongoing support, Mission Prep Plus aims to provide missionaries with a valuable resource throughout their mission journey and the rest of their lives.
This was all created with you in mind.

In this podcast episode we dive into the three important things to remember in any aspect of life. These three things were initially intended to be advice for someone heading out on a mission, but can be applied to various situations.
The first thing to remember is that you can't do it wrong. Often, we put pressure on ourselves to do things the "right" way, but this mindset only adds unnecessary stress. Instead, let’s think of life as a big experiment or creation, where you get to try different things and learn along the way. Embrace the idea that you can create what you want and let go of the fear of doing it wrong.
The second thing to remember is that your way is the best way. When we find ourselves in situations where everyone else seems to be the same, we may feel the need to change or be someone else. However, I want to emphasizes that you don't need to be different than you are. Embrace your unique gifts, talents, and abilities, and trust that being yourself is the best way to connect with others and achieve your goals.
Lastly, we will have to be willing to feel. It's easy to be open to positive emotions like happiness and contentment, but we often try to avoid negative emotions like loneliness, sadness, or anxiety. However, it's important to be willing to feel all emotions, as they are a natural part of life. By embracing and accepting all emotions, you can navigate through them with more ease and learn from the experiences they bring.
Overall, relax, surrender, and embrace the idea that you have the power to create what you want in life. By remembering these three things - you can't do it wrong, your way is the best way, and be willing to feel - you can navigate through any situation with more confidence and self-acceptance.

In this episode, we discuss the different types of transformation that can be achieved through various courses and classes offered. I have received inquiries about the different ways my courses offer help for missionaries and explains the analogy I use to explain the different types of transformation. I like to compare it to cooking, where different methods of learning to cook can result in different levels of transformation.
The first type of transformation I discuss is through listening to my podcast. I highlight the power of listening and how it can bring about amazing transformation. I share my own experience of how listening to a podcast episode changed my entire life. I emphasize that even just listening to a podcast can provide valuable skills and transformation, similar to learning to cook through listening to a cooking podcast.
The second type of transformation I mentioned is through my DIY video course. I compare this to watching a cooking show or YouTube video about cooking. I explain that watching someone cook and observing their techniques can provide a different level of transformation compared to just listening. The video course I offer includes a series of videos and a workbook for participants to fill out their own worksheets. This allows individuals to learn at their own pace and have a level of transformation that suits their needs.
The third type of transformation that I discuss is through a new program called "Mission Prep Plus." This program involves group settings where participants are preparing to go on mission as well, can ask questions to RMs and receive face-to-face teaching over Zoom. I like to compare this to attending an in-person cooking class. I go over the benefits of being in a group setting, such as learning from others and getting one-on-one feedback. The camaraderie and shared experiences in the group setting are also highlighted as valuable aspects of this type of transformation.
Overall, I emphasize that each type of transformation is valuable and not necessarily better than the others. Whether it's through listening to a podcast, watching a video course, or participating in a group program, individuals can experience different levels of transformation based on their needs and preferences. The goal is to help listeners prepare for their mission and transform their lives.

Let go of control in order to fully embrace your mission experience. Your feelings are all created by thoughts and thoughts are all things you can control. However, being worried about control can become overwhelming and self-destructive. Control is a mental construct that our brain creates to make us feel safe in the world. While it is important to feel safe, it is also beneficial to let go of control when it serves us.
Rather than trying to control our thoughts and emotions, we should simply try to become aware of them. Start to witness them, accept them, and truly be with them.
The need to be in control is not a helpful mindset. Firstly, the idea of control suggests that there are "bad" thoughts and feelings when in reality, all thoughts and feelings are valid. Secondly, trying to control our thoughts and feelings often intensifies the situation, as seen in experiences with anxiety. Finally, controlling our thoughts and feelings can prevent us from fully experiencing and processing our mission journey.
Let go of the need for control and instead embrace the natural ebb and flow of your thoughts and emotions during your mission experience. By doing so, you can fully engage with and learn from your mission journey.

In this episode, we dive into emotional resilience and explore a different perspective on how to navigate emotions. Piggy-backing off the previous episode, we challenge the common belief that emotional resilience is moving from negative to positive emotions. Instead, we learn that emotional resilience involves learning how to let all emotions be felt with compassion.
We discuss the importance of being with ourselves and offering self-compassion during challenging times. Feeling every emotion as it comes rather than constantly striving to feel only happiness can bring new levels of confidence. Engaging in relaxing activities is super valuable, but sometimes isn't helpful. There are moments when these strategies may not work and we find ourselves feeling sad, anxious or discouraged. At these times, a new skill set is required — the ability to surrender to these difficult emotions while having self-compassion.
Throughout the episode, we emphasize the power of creating a safe and comfortable space within ourselves to navigate challenges. Rather than judging and criticizing ourselves for experiencing these challenging emotions, we encourage listeners to cultivate non-judgment and self-compassion. Three key practices are crucial to creating a safe space. Refraining from judgment, making ample space to feel, and letting go of the need to be different, are it.
By embracing these practices, we not only develop a greater capacity to move through difficult emotions, but we also reduce the intensity of suffering challenges. Ultimately, this mindset shift and approach to emotional resilience can be a game changer. Let it help you navigate the ups and downs of your mission and life with grace and self-acceptance.

In this podcast episode, we explore the concept of thoughts and opinions and how they influence our beliefs and actions. Afterall, opinions are really just thoughts too. We will have a discussion about the different sources of thoughts, including the brain's problem-solving function, past experiences, and external influences. I will teach you that thoughts are not necessarily facts and that we have the power to question and challenge them.
There are many common opinions that are often accepted as truths, such as "early to bed, early to rise" and "watching TV is a waste of time." However, we must recognize that these are subjective beliefs and may not align with their own values and experiences. You have the power to choose which ones to believe and live by.
You will begin to question your own thoughts and opinions, particularly those that may limit your potential or hinder your well-being. Your thoughts are simply sentences in the mind and can be changed or challenged. By recognizing the subjective nature of thoughts and opinions, we can gain a greater sense of empowerment and agency in our lives.

In this podcast episode, we discuss emotional waves and how to handle them effectively. Emotional waves are when emotions like anxiety or stress rise within the body in response to new opportunities or challenges. Maybe you have those waves in moments like, opening your mission call, going to college, returning home from your mission, leaving your family for 2 years, or watching your child struggle. Our lower "caveman" brain sees these emotions as pain and tries to avoid them.
Common unhelpful reactions to emotional waves include thinking something is wrong with us for feeling that way, stopping the wave before it peaks by changing circumstances, and making hasty decisions before the wave fully passes through us.
Let's learn how to let the full wave happen and pass through us. By giving the emotion a name, describing its physical sensations, and "riding the wave" until it dissipates, it won't feel as big. This teaches your brain that emotions are normal and not dangerous. It also leads to better decision-making once centered again.
Think of a toddler throwing a fit to avoid a task - if we give in, we teach the little brain that strategy works. When we start seeing emotions as passengers rather than drivers and trusting the wave will subside on its own, we take the power back. Feeling our emotions fully and allowing waves to pass through us naturally builds confidence and competence over our inner experiences.

Hey there! So, I recently had some interesting conversations with a few of my clients, and it got me thinking about a common theme that kept popping up. It seems that a lot of people tend to downplay their thoughts and feelings, believing that they're silly or not important. But here's the thing: they're not silly at all!
Let me give you a couple of examples. One of my clients recently got engaged and was feeling overwhelmed and stressed about all the wedding preparations. She even felt frustrated with her fiancé for some things that had happened. But when we talked about it, she kept saying, "I know it's silly." And that got me thinking about why our brains tend to diminish our feelings like that.
I also had a conversation with another client who was working at a ropes course and had a really tough day dealing with energetic five-year-olds. He felt overwhelmed and exhausted, but he brushed it off as being silly and said he should just be grateful for his job. But I assured him that his feelings were totally valid and not silly at all!
Another client of mine was reflecting on his experience with his mission president during his time as a missionary. Now that he's back home, he's realizing that some of the ways he was treated and spoken to weren't ideal. He felt resentful and frustrated, but he kept saying, "That's just silly and dumb." But I made sure to let him know that his feelings were completely valid and not silly in the least.
What I've noticed is that people often make excuses for why they shouldn't feel a certain way or try to reason with themselves to dismiss their own emotions. But the truth is, it's important to acknowledge and honor our thoughts and feelings, no matter what they are.
Let me share an analogy that might help you understand this better. Imagine our thoughts and beliefs are like sand at the bottom of a lake. During our conversations, we bring up certain thoughts and feelings, like scooping up sand from the lakebed. We examine them, explore them, and learn from them. But when we dismiss them as silly or unimportant, it's like opening our hands and letting the sand slip away, sinking back to the bottom of the lake.
By believing that something is silly, we lose access to it completely. And when we don't have access to those thoughts and feelings, we can't fully understand how they're influencing our beliefs and actions. It's like having a hidden piece of the puzzle.
Now, I'm not saying that we have to dig up every single past experience and analyze it. That's not necessary. What I'm talking about is being open to exploring our thoughts and feelings in the present moment, allowing us to fully understand and validate our own experiences.
So, my goal with this podcast is to help all of us stop labeling our thoughts and feelings as silly or dumb. We shouldn't make excuses for ourselves or try to diminish our own emotions. Instead, let's embrace them, explore them, and learn from them. Because every thought and feeling we have is valuable and worthy of our attention.
Stay tuned for more episodes where we'll dive deeper into why we do the things we do. But for now, let's remember that nothing we think or feel is silly. It's all part of our unique journey!

Peacemakers Needed...Are you ready to become a true peacemaker? Maybe you are needing peace within yourself, your companionship, your workplace, or your home. In this episode, Jennie teaches us how we can cultivate peace within ourselves and truly become instruments of peace in the world through Christ's Atonement.
Using President Nelson's talk "Peacemakers Needed", Jennie shares how we must first fill our own souls with Christ's perfect peace before we can truly offer peace to others in a meaningful way. She uses the analogy of cake making to show that we must develop "peace within self" first before we can truly "make peace" with others.
You'll learn the key ingredients and instructions for developing peace within yourself like love, humility, wisdom and prayer. Jennie shares how we can "bake" peace through the temple and prayer, seeking God's power and wisdom. And you'll be taught how to "serve" peace by laying down contention, bitterness and anger.
But most importantly, you'll be reminded that Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace who gives us His peace through the Atonement. So if we fill ourselves up with His peace, we can truly become peacemakers through our words, actions and attitudes - overflowing with Christlike love and compassion for others.
So whether you're a missionary, a returned missionary, or a missionary mom, this episode will inspire and motivate you to cultivate Christ's peace within yourself so you can truly become an instrument of peace in the world.

This step is mission critical... It's a step that often gets overlooked but is absolutely essential: rest. Yes, you heard me right. Resting is mission critical, not just for serving an LDS mission, but for any mission or purpose we have in life.
When our Heavenly Parents created us, they designed us to constantly grow, expand, and transform. We have this inherent desire for change and improvement. So, naturally, we make plans and set goals to get where we want to be. But here's the thing: many of us forget to include rest as a crucial step in our plans.
Why is that? Well, I think society has conditioned us to see rest as lazy. We're afraid of being labeled as unproductive or not doing enough. We have this mindset that busyness equals success, and if we're not constantly working, we're not achieving. It's like we wear our busyness as a badge of honor, proudly proclaiming how little sleep we got or how many hours we worked.
But here's the truth: rest is not a sign of laziness. It's not a waste of time. In fact, it's vital for our well-being and success. Without proper rest, we risk burnout, which can lead to anxiety, discouragement, and even depression. Our mental and emotional health suffer when we don't give ourselves the time to recharge.
Think of it this way: when we're constantly on the go, putting out fires and dealing with life's demands, our nervous system is in a constant state of panic and stress. We need to step away and allow our brains and bodies to settle down and recharge. That's why taking a day of rest, like Sundays, is so important. It's a chance for growth, transformation, and creation.
Rest is also crucial for maintaining our intrinsic self-worth. Too often, we tie our value to what we accomplish or how busy we are. But true self-worth comes from within, not from external achievements. When we allow ourselves to rest without feeling guilty or worthless, we start to believe that our value is not determined by what we do or don't do.
So, let's change our perspective on rest. Let's stop equating it with laziness and start recognizing its importance. Rest is not a luxury; it's a necessity. It's a step that should be included in every plan for success. When we prioritize rest, we can avoid burnout, protect our mental and emotional well-being, and maintain a healthy sense of self-worth.
So, the next time you're tempted to push yourself to the limit, remember that resting is just as important as doing. Take the time to recharge and replenish your energy. You deserve it, and it will make a world of difference in your journey towards achieving your goals and fulfilling your mission.

Create a "What I Like About Me" list...
Too many missionaries, moms, and rm's are creating lists of all their weaknesses, shortcomings, and imperfections. This is never a good idea. Not only is this an unhelpful practice, but it also has negative effects on our self-esteem and mindset. Let me explain why...
Our brains operate like filing cabinets, with multiple rooms containing boxes of thoughts and beliefs. When we write a list of our weaknesses or inadequacies, our brains automatically search for evidence to support those beliefs. This is known as confirmation bias. We begin to see our lives through the lens of those negative thoughts, automatically magnifying every instance that reinforces them. For example, if we believe we are not good enough teachers, our brain will constantly point out every moment we stumble while teaching.
This is why it's crucial to shift our focus toward positive thoughts and beliefs. Creating a "What I Like About Me" list is not just about wishful thinking or naive optimism. It's about redirecting the power of our brains to find evidence of our strengths and qualities. By consciously choosing to notice and appreciate positive aspects of ourselves, we open up new rooms in our mental filing cabinet.
So, if any of you have a list of reasons you feel you're falling short or not measuring up, it's time to crumple and throw them away. These lists only create limiting beliefs and emotions, holding us back from recognizing our true potential. Trust me when I say that focusing on our strengths and building up ourselves and others will lead to incredible results.
Remember, what we pay attention to grows. Let's choose to pay attention to our strengths, and watch our lives transform.

The power of awareness is real. In this episode, we explore the concept of awareness and its impact on personal growth and change.
As you know, our Heavenly Parents created us with two brains - one that is constantly seeking problems and protecting us from pain, and another that can reason, plan, and imagine the future. Using our higher brain, we can observe and bring awareness to our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
At times, we can feel consumed by intense thoughts, feelings, and experiences...almost like we're trapped in a tornado. In this episode, I teach you how to step outside the tornado and observe your inner world from a higher, metacognitive perspective. That's the way we can gain clarity, understanding, and the ability to make intentional changes in our lives.
Just becoming aware of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can automatically bring about a shift in our way of thinking, feeling, and showing up in the world. The massive change that you are looking for starts by becoming aware. Becoming that type of missionary, that kind of mom, that kind of student, is possible.
Tune in to this podcast to explore the ways in which awareness can help us understand ourselves better and make positive changes in our lives.

Sneaky thoughts...what are they? In this podcast episode, we explore the concept of "sneaky thoughts" - thoughts that sound great on the surface but actually make us feel terrible. Before we dive into that, it's important to understand how thoughts and feelings are connected. Thoughts are simply sentences in our minds that our brain uses to try to address what's happening in the world around us. When a thought connects in our brain, it sends an emotion through our body, which we experience as a vibration or sensation. The key to determining whether a thought is useful or not is to pay attention to the feeling it creates. Does it drive us towards actions that feel good and authentic, or does it steer us away from what we really want?
Trying on thoughts is like trying on clothes - we can see how a thought feels, and decide if it's useful for us. But some thoughts can be sneakier than others. They sound great in theory, but when we think them, they make us feel terrible. Examples of sneaky thoughts include "I just want everyone to be happy," "I just want everyone to like me," or "I just want to be a better person." As a missionary, you may have some sneaky thoughts such as, "I want to be the best missionary", "I want everyone in my district to reach their goals", or "I just want my companion to _____". These thoughts may seem harmless, but they often create emotions like pressure, overwhelm, self-doubt, and frustration.
So how do we spot sneaky thoughts? One clue is to look at the outcome we're wanting - if it's not within our power or influence, we may be setting ourselves up for disappointment. Another clue is to consider whether the thought acknowledges the human experience. It's unrealistic to expect ourselves or others to be happy all the time, or to be perfect in every way. If we recognize and accept the ups and downs of the human experience, we can cultivate more self-love, self-worth, and self-acceptance.
The bottom line is that our thoughts have a powerful impact on our emotions and actions. By learning how to identify sneaky thoughts, we can create more empowering thought patterns that support our goals and well-being.

This episode discusses the concept of "when two worlds collide", referring to brief interactions between people where their lives intersect. Jennie uses the metaphor of two lines on a graph that meet at a single point to illustrate this.
She argues that in those moments of intersection, we should:
• Refrain from making that moment a "sticking point" that alters our course. Others' behavior in that moment is informed by their whole life up to that point, so it likely has little to do with us. Making it a "sticking point" risks judging them unfairly.
• Avoid judging others based on that brief interaction. We don't know their full story and life experiences that shaped them. Judging them is unlikely to be accurate or fair given our limited perspective.
This applies not just to others, but to ourselves as well. When we don't act as we'd like, we shouldn't make it a moment that defines us. We should show ourselves compassion, as our behavior is also shaped by our past experiences.
The key lessons are to not judge in those moments of intersection, but instead to show love, grace, and compassion to both others and ourselves. Brief interactions should not become defining for us or for others. Giving grace allows us to move past those moments without bitterness or self-condemnation.
Jennie encourages missionaries to apply this perspective with their companions and investigators. Rather than judge them based on first impressions, missionaries should remember that others have lived full lives before their paths crossed. Showing grace and compassion will allow missionaries to build stronger relationships and have a more positive mission experience.

Thriving is a buzzword that's been thrown around a lot lately. We're all searching for ways to improve our lives, to be happier, to be healthier, to be more successful. You hear missionaries say that they are thriving on their mission. Or you hear return missionaries say that their dating lives are thriving...But what does it really mean to thrive? Is it about achieving external goals or manifesting a certain lifestyle? Or is it something deeper, more intrinsic?
In this podcast, we'll explore the idea that thriving is about what is within us, rather than something that is manifested outside. We'll discuss how thriving does not mean the absence of struggle, but rather, it means persevering through the winters and stormy months. We'll also touch on how we can fall into the trap of using the idea of thriving to work against ourselves, and how our unrealistic expectations can hinder our ability to truly thrive. Finally, we'll touch on the cyclical nature of thriving, and why it's important to acknowledge that not every season will be a blooming spring or a sunny summer. Join us as we explore how thriving is not just a destination but a journey within ourselves.

Are you someone who constantly feels like your life is a never-ending rollercoaster ride? Maybe your mission has felt that way or schooling or being a parent. Do you often wonder why you feel this way when you are taking steps toward achieving your goals? Well, let me tell you something - it's completely normal to seek progress and growth in life. However, it becomes detrimental when you place your entire sense of self-worth and happiness on achieving those things.
In this episode, we'll be discussing the concept of the "achievement high" and how it can often lead to a rollercoaster-like feel to our lives. Instead of constantly striving for bigger and better accomplishments, we'll be exploring the idea of finding fulfillment in the journey itself - not just the destination.
By understanding the pitfalls of placing too much emphasis on achievement, we can begin to shift our mindset towards one of hope and excitement. We'll also explore how embracing belief in ourselves and our abilities can help us feel more grounded and less swept up in the ups and downs of life. So, get ready to feel empowered and inspired to create a more fulfilling and sustainable way of living!

Today we are celebrating our 100th episode of the podcast. And to celebrate, I’m having a conversation with my friend and mentor, Jody Moore.
If you are a missionary or an RM you may struggle with setting goals or taking your life or mission a little seriously. When things feel heavy and it all feels “high stakes” we actually do less in moving towards what we really want.
In my conversation with Jody we talk about the differences between coaching and therapy, how coaching has changed both of our lives, the benefit having fun and how to drop comparison and lean into the process.
Listen in to learn:
After having her first two kids, Jody Moore struggled with work/life balance, embracing motherhood, and liking herself. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she felt guilty for not loving the role of mother and wife, and turned to life coaching for help. The transformation she experienced not only helped her at work and at home, it strengthened her testimony of Christ leading her to dive into learning the tools of coaching and to leave her position as a corporate leadership coach to launch her own coaching practice. Jody is certified through The Life Coach School and completed Master Coach Certification in 2018.
Today Jody has helped tens of thousands of people through her top-rated podcast Better Than Happy as well as her coaching membership program Be Bold. She has 4 children ages 6 – 16 and resides in Spokane, Washington with them, her husband, and their French bulldog Finn and cat Oscar.
