I was invited to film for The PMBC (Phuket Marine Biology Center) with my good friend Khun ED. The plan was to take off in his Cessna from a small airstrip on Phuket and then fly the short distance down to Trang. There is a well known area on the coast of Trang that has a massive area of sea grass at a depth of around 8 metres. And in this sea grass area live the beautiful manatees. Trang is famous for their Manatees and visitors to Trang will soon see them represented all over the city. On street signs, business names, statues and all kinds of other places.
They are an endangered species and are threatened mostly by habitat loss and overfishing in their environment. The PMBC has a yearly program where they fly search patterns over the main sea grass areas of Trang over several days and record their numbers. Ed’s small plane is perfect for this as it can fly very low and the doors can be removed for easily spotting and photographing.
This was my first time flying in a small plane with no doors and I have to tell you it was one of the most bizarre filming trips I have ever done. It was windy like hell, loud as hell and bumpy as hell. So not exactly ideal filming conditions hahaha. I asked why they didn’t use drones for the survey and the answer made perfect sense - the batteries don’t last long enough and the range is not good enough - unless of course they had some military standard drone that cost a few million bucks!
The actual time I spent in the plane was so much fun - the first time Ed banked the plane and descended in a tight turn to our search area I literally would have fallen out of the doorway if it wasn’t for the seatbelt. I think Ed knew that as he gave me no warning and just tipped the plane on it’s side. We spent about 1 hour flying tight U-shaped patterns in designated areas with me looking out for Manatees. We spotted many and my job was to photograph them and Ed marked them on his charts exactly where we spotted them.
The video is just a little cut that I presented to the PMBC - I gave them all the raw footage and photographs for their own records. I have also worked with Ed filming Bryde Whales in the Gulf Of Thailand which was equally fun - I will add that video another day.

Island Boards were born in the Thai calendar of 2564 in the midst of the global covid-19 pandemic. They had one single mission in mind - to produce the coolest, and best-made longboards available in South East Asia.
Their longboards are all handmade, following in the tradition of the Californian legends that surfed streets on solid wooden guns with steel trucks and wheels!

One day the the Phuket Marine Biology Center asked me if I was interested to film them dissecting a dead dolphin to determine the cause of death. They do this to see if it was from marine pollution. I cant say I was super excited about it but I called up Earth Touch and asked if they wanted it..... what follows is pretty gruesome but nonetheless interesting.

The dive center Manta Rhei in Labuan Bajo, Flores were kind enough to offer me free diving in exchange for some footage one year while I was on assignment for Earth Touch. Here's a quick cut of some of the clips I collected. Komodo offers some of the best diving in Indonesia....If you're a diver make sure it's on your bucket list!

I went with my good buddy Roj into the mountains of Phuket to search for Gibbons. On the edge of the forest is a Gibbon Rehabilitation Center where gibbons rescued from the pet trade are taught to live wild again. We were searching for a newly released family.

I solo dived a brand new wreck on Koh Phi Phi some time ago. There wasn't much coral growth on there yet but it's amazing how fast the fish moved in. Hope you enjoy it - and don't solo dive..... always dive with a buddy...:)

I was commissioned by Earth Touch to make this short film about the Asian One Horned Rhino. Me and my good friend Gustavo travelled to The Chitwan National park in south of Nepal to film this. Along the way we had all kinds of adventures but being goring distance from a one tonne rhino was definitely the trip highlight. Hope you like it folks.

The island chain of Wakatobi lies on the south eastern tip of Sulawesi. The waters are unbelievably clear and have some of the healthiest coral reefs I have ever seen. Fish life is abundant and tourism is minimal I guess pertly for the effort it takes to get there. This one is for all you divers out there....if you get the chance make sure you add Wakatobi to you list!
