Candies and Jessica are two best friends who have been through different phases of their lives together - from surviving university, heartbreaks, living thousands of miles away from their families, finding jobs and living as foreigners in the UK, to moving up the career ladder, buying a house, and generally perfecting the art of ‘adulting’.
This podcast is produced with the hope of it being entertaining, informative, laugh-till-your-belly-hurts hilarious, and somewhat inspiring. Think of us as your Asian big sisters sharing our experiences and mistakes, so you can learn from them, laugh with us and dodge a few bullets along the way!

Coming towards the end of the month of LOVE, we thought we could dedicate one episode to our little brothers and sisters. because we normally express our love by hitting them and seldom saying out loud. So we have two full-length episodes telling them how much we love (hate) them. HAHAHA! Andrew, Marcus, Eunice, Val, Yang, make sure you tune in NOW!

Hi everyone! Here’s the second part of the questions, hope you enjoy it!
__________
If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why?
What does friendship mean to you?
What roles do love and affection play in your life?
Alternate sharing something you consider a positive characteristic of your partner. Share a total of five items.
How close and warm is your family? Do you feel your childhood was happier than most other people’s?
How do you feel about your relationship with your mother?
Make three true “we” statements each. For instance, “We are both in this room feeling ... “
Complete this sentence: “I wish I had someone with whom I could share ... “
If you were going to become a close friend with your partner, please share what would be important for him or her to know.
Tell your partner what you like about them; be very honest this time, saying things that you might not say to someone you’ve just met.
Share with your partner an embarrassing moment in your life.
When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself?
Tell your partner something that you like about them already.
What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?
If you were to die this evening with no opportunity to communicate with anyone, what would you most regret not having told someone? Why haven’t you told them yet?
Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? Why?
Of all the people in your family, whose death would you find most disturbing? Why?
Share a personal problem and ask your partner’s advice on how he or she might handle it. Also, ask your partner to reflect back to you how you seem to be feeling about the problem you have chosen.

Following on from last week’s episode about learning how to love ourselves, this week we have another love related topic. While brainstorming for the episodes this season, we decided to dedicate the month of february to LOVE. So as you’ve heard last week, we started it with SELF LOVE. This week we are going to answer 36 questions that will potentially lead to love.
In 1997, a psychologist Arthur Aron from Stony Brook University created 36 questions that tests accelerated intimacy between two strangers. The idea is that mutual vulnerability through self-disclosure fosters closeness and has an impact on the process of building a relationship. By allowing ourselves to be vulnerable with another person, it fosters closeness and is fundamental to develop a close relationship.
We thought it would be fun to try these questions ourselves and see what the other person answers.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Would you like to be famous? In what way?
Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?
What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?
When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want?
Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?
Name three things you and your partner appear to have in common.
For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
Take four minutes and tell your partner your life story in as much detail as possible.
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?
If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know?
Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?
What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
What do you value most in a friendship?
What is your most treasured memory?
What is your most terrible memory?

To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.. or so Oscar Wilde said!
People come and go, but we live with ourselves our whole life. If loving others are so common and sometimes effortless, why is loving ourselves so hard? Why are we so unnecessarily hard on ourselves? What does it take to learn to love ourselves? We wish it’s as simple as drawing a warm bath..
It takes a lot of commitment and effort to practise self-love. It’s no secret that we tend to be our own harshest judge. In this episode, we discussed our take on self-love and what we do to love ourselves, also the absolute worst thing you can do to yourself to sabotage that self-love movement.

Hello there thrill seekers and good day to ya! Welcome back to Two Pills in a Pod, we are at Season 3 eyyyyyy!
We are starting Season 3 by giving a giant nod to one of the biggest holidays in the Chinese culture, Chinese New Year! As most of y’all know, next week is Chinese New Year. As we welcome the year of Tiger, we want to talk a little bit about the history of Chinese New Year, our favourite part of the day, the traditions surrounding Chinese New Year, and some superstitions surrounding the holidays! Are we Chinese if we’re not at least a little bit superstitious?!
You’ll hear us talk about ‘ang bao’ throughout the first half of the episode. ‘Ang bao’ is the Hokkien word for ‘Hong Bao (紅包)’ which directly translates to red envelope. It is a monetary gift typically given by the married to the unmarried, most of whom are children.
The second part of the episode, we discuss the New Year’s Resolutions that we aim to keep throughout the year. Here’s hoping that we actually stick to it!

Identity. It is who or what a person is. It is so important to know who you are and be loved by your loved ones for exactly who you are. In this episode, we want to explore the topic of sexual orientation, specifically homosexuality. We have wanted to talk about it for awhile, but us pills can’t shed any light on this topic, so that’s why we’ve invited a very special guest to have this conversation with. We are so happy and honoured that our guest today shared his coming out journey on our podcast.
Glen is one of Candies’ oldest friend and they have been friends since they were in high school in Singapore. He identifies as gay and he now lives in London with his partner and (super cute) fur babies.

“You’re too fat, why don’t you try exercising?..” “You’re too skinny, why don’t you eat more?..”
Who else is sick of hearing these sentences uttered in family gathering and bantering among friends? We feel the pressure to meet society’s (unrealistic) standards of beauty, from the height of our nose to the circumference of our waist. We are often the subject of scrutiny from friends and family when we don’t fit into the mold of beauty standards. How do we deal with it?
In this episode, we discussed our experiences dealing with the notion of “beauty standards“. We talked about our relationship with our body and how we felt when people pick apart the very thing we are insecure about. It is an especially hard episode to record, because of how personal this issue is to us. However, this is an important conversation to have and issue to raise. We hope this episode can serve as a reminder to everyone to be kind to one another. As a rule of thumb, if you can’t find anything nice to say, don’t say anything. Easy!

On today’s episode we have another one of our immensely talented friend as a guest. She studied Finance in Queen’s University of Belfast and went back home after university to work on her family’s business. Last year, thanks to the whole world slowing down, she has had a chance to re-examine her career and she has decided to pursue one of her great passions - photography. Specifically, pre-wedding photography.
Needless to say, we are super inspired by Elizabeth and her willingness to pursue her passion. We know it ain’t easy and many of us are wondering how we can generate an income out of something we’re passionate about, and not just be stuck in the rat race of a 9-5. We invited Elizabeth to chat about why she decided to pursue photography seriously, how she got started, what motivated her, the highs and lows of a pre-wedding photographer, and her experience so far photographing couples from all walks of life. Also, don’t forget to check her out!
We are deeply inspired by this woman and we sincerely hope that Elizabeth and her camera will go far in life. We hope that this episode can be that little push that you need to go out there and turn your passion into something bigger.

HAPPY WORLD PHARMACIST DAY!
We hope by now you realize that pharmacist is actually our day job and this podcast is just a side hustle!
In this episode, we invited our friends back in uni, Zimin and Shen to share their experiences working as a pharmacist in Malaysia. Zimin and Shen also talked about how they made the decisions to move back home for good, how to adapt to the work culture back home, any reverse culture shock, what exams you need to take to become a qualified pharmacist, the differences in work-life balance, pay, etc.
Zimin is a hospital pharmacist based in Penang and we were really curious about her daily routine working as a hospital pharmacist in Malaysia. Shen is currently working in a pharmaceutical company now. We asked him what makes him chose industrial pharmacy, what is the content of the job, and the career progression in a pharmaceutical company. There is also geeky pharm talk in the episode, listen till the end!
We hope you find this episode inspirational and useful. Tune in now to find out more and let us know if you want more content like this!

We covered the basics such as the eligibility criteria, timescale, and the documents you need to prep beforehand. We also talked about which solicitor you can go for and the fees they charge etc. Tune in to this episode to find out more!!

You know the Asian parents’ trifecta. You either be a lawyer, an engineer, or a doctor (or a dentist or a pharmacist). On today’s episode, we have invited one of our friend who has chosen one of that career path and is loving it. He’s a Malaysian Automation Engineer who is working in Airbus in Wales, UK. We met Ian Antonio Lee in Queen’s University Belfast and through his outgoing and friendly personality, we became friends. We are proud to call him our friend because not only is he our go-to guy when our smoke alarm wouldn’t shut up, but he’s also hella funny and super easy to have a conversation with.
He has kindly agreed to come on the pod to chat with us about his career, from why he decided to pursue engineering, what it is about the field that excites him, how he got a job in Airbus(!), and what he is currently up to! We chat so much that we thought we would split up the conversation into two parts so you get to enjoy his banter for two whole episodes! You’re welcome.

Kid you not, we got so many questions about how we produce this podcast, the logistics, and how much time we invest in it. So we thought this is the perfect time to talk about our journey so far with the podcast, what we think about it, our expectations, and where we want to take this little passion project of ours. I hope you know CPR.. because you just took my breath away!
Ahh.. dating. We’ve all experienced the ups and downs of dating. When you giggle like an idiot reading his texts, stay up way past midnight to talk to him on the phone, when life feels like a Drew Barrymore rom-com. That excitement of flirting with that cute guy you swiped right for, looking for excuses just to start a conversation with him, bringing him up in every conversation with your friends, that rush you feel when he first held your hand and kissed you…
WAKE UP! WAKE UP!
Kids, dating can be fun and dreamy, but they can also be disasters waiting to happen! Love is supposed to be easy, but the dating game can be more complicated than chess. In this episode, we talked about our journey to find McDreamy. We discussed the men we’ve dated, from horror stories to embarrassingly funny ones! We talked about dating etiquette, dating again after a break up, online dating, and what NOT to do on dates.
Go on, you know you want to hit play.

In this episode, two pills shared their breakup stories and how they survived the heartbreaks. We talked about the dumb things we have done to get attention from our exes, the social media stalking with our FBI friends, the find-myself self-reflection cliche, and the grieving process before moving on.
Breakups are tough, but breaking up during a pandemic, HA! Can you imagine crying under the mask and gasping for air at the same time? Yes, you want to be the drama queen and cut your hair short, but guess what, hairdressers are closed! Food heals all wounds right? But no, restaurants are closed! You cant even travel anywhere!
If you are going through a breakup during this already challenging time, you are not alone! We are here for you!

They say missing someone gets easier everyday because even though you are one day away from the last time you saw them, you are one day closer to the next time you will. Hmm…
Even with the advancement of technology, long distance relationship is still no easy matter. It takes a lot of commitment and hard work. And not to mention, a heck load of trust. We feel you, sisters and brothers.
We’d like to keep things interesting and introduce you to one of our dear friend, Chee Wei Chen (@cheeweichen) in this episode. She is a fellow Queen’s alum, hence we have known Chee Wei since our early university years. She has, also, throughout her university years and until now, been in a long distance relationship with her boyfriend. She has kindly agreed to join us in this episode to talk about how they have successfully thrived in a long distance relationship and are very much still in love (awww). She shared the highs and lows of her relationship and got very personal with us about the challenges she faced. Let’s just say.. she makes us believe in true love heart eyes emoji

Adulting is tough. I know.
You think it’s about time and you’re looking to buy a home now. You look at your bank account and ask yourself: Can you afford that? Are you going to cash buy? If the answer is no, then you are most likely going to need a mortgage.
Following our last episode, two pills are going to give you some insights on what is a mortgage, what are the types of mortgage available and where you can seek professional advice. We also share with you our experience on getting a mortgage with the broker and solicitor. It’s not as difficult as you think it’d be, but it’s not straightforward either. Tune in this episode to find out more!

Should I RENT or Should I BUY? That is the real question we keep asking ourselves especially when the quarter-life crisis hits!
In this episode, the two pills are sharing their renting and buying experiences in the UK. This will hopefully give you some tips on what you should look into when you are deciding between renting or buying a place. Are renting processes in Northern Ireland and England the same? Is buying a house smarter than renting? Where can we get help in the house-buying process? Should we give in to peer pressure to buy a house?? HMMMMMM….. Find out in this episode!!

We strongly believe that friends are the family that you choose for yourselves. Therefore, they are an important part of our lives. BFF, right? We form bonds with our friends that are so unique and strong, we build a secondary family while being away from home. These friendships are so precious to us, but some of our friends chose to move back home after university. Keeping the friendships going ain’t easy - especially when you throw in time differences and distance into the mix. We are definitely not strangers to long distance friendships, and our friends are too important for us to just let go.
In this episode, we discuss the meaning of friendship to us, loyalty, how our friendship has changed throughout the years, our experiences with toxic friendships, the challenges we faced with long distance friendships, what we do to keep in touch (with the nice ones lol), and how we deal with not having our best friends geographically close to us.
If you have friends - or if you’re one of ours, give this one a listen!

Unless you’re a member of the Royal Family, everyone has found themselves in that position where they have to look and apply for jobs, work on their CVs, and attend interviews. We all know how gruelling that process can be. However, the journey becomes extra hard when you throw in immigration status, minimum salary requirements and expiring visas!
As working adults in the UK, we recognise our privilege in having found employers that can hire AND sponsor us. In this episode, we share our experiences in looking for jobs in the UK, why we chose to stay in the UK, the challenges that we faced while applying for jobs as migrants, the working life of Pharmacists, and all that fun stuff!
So, if you’re ever curious about what it takes to get a job and work in the UK as a non-British national, or if you are thinking of applying for jobs in the UK and you’re a migrant like us, this one's for you!
Disclaimer: The current fees associated with the work visa application might have changed since our own applications a few years ago so please do your own research if you are looking to apply for your work visa. There are also differences between applying inside and outside the UK. We applied for our visa from inside the UK.

Have you ever walked on the street minding your own business and suddenly someone is shouting racial slurs at you? Have you ever been made uncomfortable when someone makes a comment about your race? Have you been that person who was insensitive to other races and now want to do better?
In this episode, we chatted with our friend, Sharon, about the issues surrounding the recent anti-Asian racism that have risen since the pandemic, what brought us here, and what we can do moving forward?
We know it takes more than an episode in a podcast to eradicate racism, but if we can just inspire change in one person today, this episode has done its job. So please, listen to it, talk about it, and most importantly, SHARE IT with everyone you know.

Our guest today:
Sharon Geraldine is a fellow Asian woman who is currently living in the Bay Area and working as a Product Design Engineer. She has been friends with Candies for over 10 years. Despite living in different continents, they have grown up together and often discussed issues that they care about with each other. Apart from being extremely multi-talented and resourceful, Sharon is also very compassionate and kind to others - which is why issues such as racism have always been something she cares and tries to raise awareness about.
