Do you ever feel like you're doing what God told you to do and then you hit a wall?

The Lord showed me two ways of being against a wall

**Wall 1

You are traveling the path God has called you to. You are following and making progress. Maybe you’ve been running and striving to get where you think you need to be faster. One day you run into a wall.
There is no way over or around this wall.

It feels like you will never be able to live the life for Christ you long to live.** It’s too hard. It’s not working. You’ll never get it right. You know what’s right but you question if anyone sees Christ in your life.

This is likely a wall that’s foundation was laid in childhood and with the sneaky influence of satan. It’s built with lies about God and His love for you. Lies about yourself. Lies about how the Kingdom of God works. Jesus is ready and willing to take the wall down.
It’s your wall so He needs your permission.

From an adult perspective it may not make sense that you built a wall to stop yourself. Somehow it was intended to protect you. The thing is when we try to protect ourselves we are not trusting God. We’re getting bad information. When we are hurting the enemy is always there trying to help us make sense of things in a way that will keep us stuck in the long run. Without the help, maturity, and discernment to know the difference, walls get built to protect that eventually trap you. Once Jesus has your permission He will dismantle the wall in whatever way He chooses. Along with your permission you may need to forgive, repent, break wrong agreements or something else as you sit in His presence.

Wall 2

You have been following God’s call, walking the path He laid out for you. Now you feel He is calling you higher, to more. But you feel like you’ve hit a wall.

The doodle of this is walking a path in the mountains and coming to a cliff. The trail seems to dead end right in front you.

Doubt floods in.

Did You say to go this way? Haven’t I been obeying? Did I get it wrong?

Then the accusations.

You never should have come this way. Why did you think you could make it? Who do you think you are anyway?

You are tempted to stop. It feels hopeless and pointless. Impossible.

If you keep going you will see that when you get to the cliff there is a hidden stair cut in the mountain that goes to the next level. You can;t see it because you’re not there yet or because God is calling you to pivot. You need to turn, to shift your focus off the cliff to see the stairs.

You haven’t been wrong. You needed to come this way to get to the stairs. The steps to get to the next level. There may be relationships, good ideas, things that worked in the past that need to be left behind to ascend the stairs. It doesn’t mean they were wrong or bad, just not for this part of the journey.

What if the heart isn't as deceptive as we've been led to believe? Unearth the biblical truths about the heart's true nature as we challenge the conventional wisdom rooted in Jeremiah 17:9. Discover how the heart's condition changes based on whether it focuses on selfish desires or God. We dissect scriptures like Jeremiah 3:15, Psalm 20:4, and Job 22:22 to show that when aligned with God's will, the heart can be discerning and upright. We also highlight the profound connection between our emotions, experiences, and the healing journey, emphasizing that God truly cares about our feelings and pain.

Ever wondered why Western culture often prioritizes the mind over the heart? We unravel the contradiction between this notion and biblical teachings, focusing on 1 Samuel 16:7. Learn how God looks beyond outward appearances and values the heart, which includes our feelings, thoughts, and character. By exploring the Hebrew concept of loving God with all your heart, soul, and might, we advocate for an integrated approach where heart, mind, will, and emotions coexist harmoniously. This episode invites you to reconsider the belief that the heart is inherently deceptive, and to embrace a balanced perspective that can enrich your faith journey. "Come to the Table"
This is an invitation the Lord spoke to me many times over the years. He's saying it again now. He's saying it to you, too.

There is a table in Psalm 23.
The table of the Last Supper.
The table Jesus invited Himself to in Zaccheus's house.

I have tables in my lighthouse.

I use Heart Doodling with Jesus in my quiet time to reflect on the table God is inviting me to and what is on the table.

I'm inviting you to come to the table as well. Summer of 2024 I will be visiting a table with the Lord each week. You can join us. Sessions are on Zoom, Tuesdays, 10:30 am Alaska time.

Register now.

Have you ever felt like sharing your story is only valid once you've conquered your demons? I've been there. This week on the podcast, we're tearing down the facade that we must be 'fixed' before we can contribute anything of value. With vulnerability as my compass, I navigate the raw, unpolished terrain of personal narratives that are still unfolding, and discuss why these tales in transit are just as vital as those with a polished end. Embracing the messiness of the middle, I reveal how gradual steps in the dark often lead to profound growth and why it's crucial to cherish the journey as much as the destination.

The episode then shifts to a seemingly simple yet powerful tool for clarity—doodling. Sharing my own moment of mental fog lifting as I imagined sketching my thoughts, I invite you to discover how this act can anchor us in purpose and faith, serving as a beacon through life's storms. We're not all artists.

Join me as we explore the beauty of grounding ourselves in purpose and the unexpected shifts in perspective that can emerge from the taking up a pen and listening for the Lord.

This episode walks you through how thoughts and emotions are different. Once you know if it is a thought or an emotion you can deal with it appropriately.

I taught this workshop in a group fro Christian business women. You can grab paper, pen and a couple highlighters and walk through the exercise of identifying thoughts and emotions. Deal with the thoughts. Listen to the emotions.

Ever had a moment where a spilled coffee or a missed bus sent you into an emotional tailspin? You're not alone. On this episode, join me, Mukkove Johnson, as we delve into the world of repressed emotions and how they can disrupt our lives in unexpected ways. I'll share my own stories of emotional eruptions over seemingly trivial matters and what they've taught me about the unattended emotional needs that simmer beneath our day-to-day awareness. We’ll explore techniques to tune into these hidden signals, using physical sensations as clues, to better understand and address our innermost needs.

Our emotional closets can become as cluttered as a teenager's bedroom, but there's hope for tidying up. We discuss the parallels between physical and emotional hoarding and how to sift through years of stored feelings that may be affecting our peace of mind. From prayer and journaling to meaningful conversations, we'll cover an array of methods to begin decluttering our internal spaces. And we won't stop there; we'll also examine the strength found in taking small steps towards emotional resilience. By isolating challenges and conquering them one by one, we learn to manage our feelings effectively, setting the stage for a more harmonious and structured life.

Have you ever felt trapped in a cycle of suppressing your emotions, unsure of how to navigate the whirlpool of your feelings? I was there too until I discovered the healing power of 'heart doodling with Jesus.' Join me on a heartfelt journey as we discuss creating a sanctuary for our emotions, a place where we can unpack the baggage of our past and learn to approach our feelings with kindness and understanding. Through the art of heart doodling, we not only give our emotions a visual form but also find a reflective practice that invites Jesus into the conversation, helping us to better understand our responses to life’s ups and downs, and steer clear of the extremes of emotional outbursts or repression.

In the latest episode, the canvas of our discussion is painted with stories and insights from the monthly 'Heart Doodling with Jesus Workshops.' These workshops are not just about creating art; they're about building a community where individuals come together via Zoom to share, reflect, and grow. We're fostering a support network that extends to one-on-one coaching and group settings, like bible studies or family gatherings, offering a sanctuary for those looking to deepen their emotional intelligence through creativity and faith. And the dream doesn’t stop there – imagine immersing yourself in the tranquility of Alaska on a retreat centered around this transformative practice. If you grew up believing emotions were bad and best avoided the thought of starting to deal with them now can be overwhelming, downright scary. The good news is you don't need to do it all at once. You can go as slowly and gently as you need to.

Accepting you have emotions is a good first step. Allow them to be close in small doses. Learn to be comfortable in their presence. You don't need to fix them or resolve them. Emotions are to experience. In experiencing them you get to know them and yourself.

Making space for your child's emotions can show you what you need to make space for your own emotions.

How do you talk to yourself when you make a mistake?

Is it kind and encouraging? Is it helpful?

If you talked to a friend the way you talk to yourself would you still be friends?

For so many years the answer was no. No it was not kind. No it wasn’t helpful. No, I wouldn’t have any friends if I spoke to them the way I spoke to myself.

It’s ironic that as I try to write this I am debating if it is better to go find what I’ve already written on this topic or to start over. And if I start over do I write or do I talk it out first? What’s the “best” way to do this? Because I’m afraid of making a mistake…

There is no best way. The best way is to write, something, somehow. Not keep thinking about writing, not keep looking for things I think I said or where I think I covered this before. If I remember them and decide to include them that’s fine. Right now it’s time to write. Not to refine and produce a finished piece. It’s time to write. To get thoughts out of my head so I can work with them until they are ready to share with you.

One of the ways I fight this drive to always do everything in the “best” way is through Heart Doodling with Jesus. In her free workshop, Maritza Parra teaches the concept of using a permanent marker to doodle and watercolor paint to paint your doodles. Her reasoning is to create the practice of accepting mistakes as part of the learning process. I have found this to be a powerful practice and encourage anyone trying Heart Doodling with Jesus to do the same.

Now there’s a voice inside that needs to be silenced. This voice tells me it’s bad unless it’s perfect, and it’s never perfect. This voice tells me if I don’t do well people will leave. It tells me if I cause problems they will leave. I silence that voice everytime I pick up my permanent marker and make an imperfect doodle. Everytime I keep going with a lopsided box, the head of my little Ava-Doodle wonky instead of round, I keep writing when I spelled a word wrong. I keep the message from the Lord even when the paint ran and no one but me knows what the picture was anyway.

Mistakes are okay. They are normal. They are part of learning. We practice. As we practice we will make mistakes.

Heart Doodling with Jesus gives you small, safe practice at many skills you may have missed growing up. Using the permanent marker and watercolor paints give you practice in seeing mistakes are part of learning. Mistakes don’t ruin things. I’ll talk more about that in Don’t Start Over Sit with It.

In episode 93, I shared the revelation the Lord had given me about my daughter's fear of me losing her. I laid a foundation for that fear when she was an infant and removed when the Lord revealed it.
The story I share in today's episode is another big step in the journey. In talking and listening to the Lord we discovered her fear of the dark was linked to that same core fear. More of the wall is removed in her heart.

The Lord has been impressing on my heart, slow down. It's interesting because I feel like my word for 2024 is access. But then what the Lord keeps saying is slow down, slow down, slow down. I am trying to press into that and understand what that looks like.

Part of slowing down is taking the pressure off. Taking pressure off means adjusting my expectations of where I show up and how often I show up, and that kind of thing.

I sat down to Heart Doodle with Jesus to sort out what I was feeling when it came to slowing down. Part of me was feeling discouraged and rather hopeless. Then there's the side that can see the benefit of slowing down and the appeal of slowing down. I can see and feel the contrast of my feelings.

As I listened the Lord said, “Slowing down is important. It's obedience.” That struck a chord with me. It's not just oh, do I want to or do I not? It's obedience because He's telling me to slow down. So slowing down is obedience and that's why it's important. Slowing down, on the one hand, feels good, it feels peaceful, so, yes, can I please slow down? The other side is how am I going to make this work? How am I going to get everything done? What does this look like? I don't have the details and I think it's important to realize that walking in faith and living with the Lord often has both sides. When you are walking with the Lord it doesn’t mean everything is roses, easy and peaceful. There's still an enemy. There's still your old programming that pushes you in different ways.

Obedience goes against striving. The pressure comes from my striving and my own expectations of what needs to be done or how it's supposed to look.

In February's Heart Doodling Workshop (recording is available here) the first doodle I titled, What Was. Doing a Heart Doodle with Jesus gives space to feel and identify your feelings. It is an opportunity to pay attention to the thoughts running through your head. Most importantly it is a time to hear God’s perspective on your thoughts, feelings, and circumstances.

I invite you to reach out to me. If you're in a place of “I can't even imagine slowing down, yet there's that place in my spirit where that sounds so appealing, but then that just gets crushed with everything that floods in on top of it, of all the things to do and all the people that would be upset.” reach out to me. We can have a conversation and see how I can best support you. I have options starting at $17 a month.

Have you ever felt the weight of guilt as a mother, haunted by the moments you wish you could take back? I know I have, and in our latest conversation, I lay bare the emotional journey of confronting the guilt born from unintentionally instilling fear into my child. We tackle the tough work of dismantling that foundation, replacing it with trust and the unwavering grace we're so freely given. This isn't about wallowing in what's been done; it's about confessing, seeking forgiveness, and most importantly, learning to move forward. By sharing my own steps towards healing, I hope to guide you through the liberating process of letting go of the guilt that binds us.

As we delve deeper, we unearth the truths about our identity in Christ. There's a profound freedom in understanding that we are made righteous through Him, not through our own toils and efforts. I discuss how embracing this transformative belief can release us from the past and propel us into the life we are meant to live—free from the chains of guilt and fear. I encourage you to share your own stories, seek advice, and build a supportive community where we can all thrive in the light of these revelations. Together, let's step into the freedom that comes with being new creations in Christ, leaving behind old patterns for a fresh start.

My youngest daughter has always had a fear of me losing her. It didn’t make sense because I’d never lost or left her anywhere.

The Lord showed me why in a conversation and from a Heart Doodle with Teagan. I explained in this week’s podcast. I also share how intentionally laying good foundations will set your children up for healthy behavior patterns and good character.

The short version is I laid the foundation for her fear by partnering with fear when she was an infant.

Is there room for creativity in your time with God?
What about your emotions? Are they welcome?
Hi, if we haven't met, I'm Mukkove Johnson and I am here to encourage and equip you to understand and use the gift of your emotions. One of the ways that I do that is through the process I've developed called heart doodling with Jesus.

One of my favorite things about heart doodling with Jesus is that it helps to build awareness, and awareness is so important to mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

This heart-to-heart episode is a tender exploration of what it means to truly show up for oneself, especially for those of us who have felt the sting of childhood emotional neglect. I open up about my journey towards self-awareness—how it began with the challenging, yet essential, practice of tuning into my own needs and the neglected parts of my soul. Through stories and reflections, I illustrate the deeply personal process of setting boundaries and embracing self-care, not as indulgences, but as fundamental acts of self-compassion.

I sat down at a coffee shop to write without the distractions of home and child.

I immediately felt like crying.

This is a very familiar experience for me. I slow down and I feel like crying. Over the years this has led to me paying attention to my tears. They come for many reasons. Sad, mad, happy, overwhelmed in good or bad ways, sensing God’s presence, and being weary from going too much.

The last one was the reason today.

I’ve been slowing down physically and in my expectations of how much I can get done ( and getting more done). Slowing down to pay attention to how I am feeling and why,,, not so much. Taking the pressure off of trying to say the right thing in the right way… not so much either.

Instead of diving into writing, which was the purpose of this time because I have put off writing twice already this week, I pulled out my sketchbook to sort out the tears.

I’m glad I did.

I drew a big teardrop and wrote the word regret.

I asked what regret was.

At least for today it was grief over what could have been. I could have more clarity. I could have this writing done. I could feel like I know what I’m doing. I could…

As I wrote it I was reminded of the times in the Chronicles of Narnia when Lucy asked Aslan about what would have happened. He responds that she doesn’t get to know what would have happened. She can obey and find out what will happen.

Regret was grieving what I imagined could have happened.

Now it’s time to obey, to move, and find out what will happen.

This was a good revelation and insight. At times I would have left it at that.

However it was not actionable. There was no practical way I was going to apply it and make a change to intentionally move toward what I want to happen.

In the past this would have led to the urge and pressure to create a detailed plan for all the things I want to have happen.

I still felt the urge.

I also had the reminder that doing a simple thing everyday has gotten me more progress and more peace in managing my home.

I’m trying to apply this to my spiritual and mental health as well.

I’m still experimenting with exactly what that looks like. I know it means slowing down. It means changing my thinking from a project mentality to a small steps mentality.

There is a temptation to listen to the bullying voice telling me I should have that already. God’s been talking to me about the importance and impact of small steps for almost 3 years.

I don’t need to bully myself.

I don’t need to let the devil bully me either.

I don’t need to stay in what could have been.

I move into what will be.

I will change.

I will learn.

I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

Is there an area you have been experiencing regret?

Have you ever paused to wonder why receiving - be it a compliment, a gift, or a helping hand - can often feel so uncomfortable? This episode dares to delve into the tangled web of guilt, emotional neglect, and distorted teachings from childhood that make us resist our innate design as receivers. As we unravel how the inability to receive can stifle our growth and dampen the joy of the giver, you'll discover a new perspective on how God has designed us to be receivers first and givers second.

As we journey deeper, we'll confront the profound impact of childhood emotional neglect on our capacity to accept kindness, help, and divine truths. Understanding these struggles and overcoming them can lead us to not only embrace our roles as receivers but also improve our relationships and self-care abilities. This open-hearted conversation is more than mere talk; it's a call for you to reflect, share your experiences, and embrace the joy of receiving. Come join us for this empowering and enlightening discourse.

What if the secret to a joyful, stress-free holiday season was not about managing your emotions, but feeling them? As the festive season approaches, we take a deep-dive into exploring this concept, reminding you to check societal expectations at the door and put what truly counts at the center - your well-being and spending quality time with loved ones.

Prepare to challenge the norms as we unfold three vital questions; "Who says," "What fits," and "What if it was easy," guiding you to a happier, less stressful Christmas. We share personal experiences and practical advice, especially in managing difficult conversations.

Our focus? Helping you understand and navigate your emotions rather than control others. By the end of this episode, you'll be well-equipped to take control of your actions and reactions, making room for a more fulfilling holiday season. So, tune in and join us as we redefine the often stressful holiday narrative into one of joy and serenity.

There are three simple questions you can ask to make your Christmas more peaceful. They are simple questions. Following through on your answers may be a little harder.

Says who?

All those things you’re feeling you have to do - says who? Question your expectations. Questions the expectations of others.

What fits?

We all have limits. There is only so much time, energy, and money. How do you want to use what you have? How much of what you have do you want to use?

Taking a leaf from my own journey, I hit the pause button for the month of August. In this episode from my tranquil greenhouse, I share the insights and lessons I'm learning from my decision to prioritize my mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

It's the end of season two, but it's also the beginning of a new, exciting chapter.

I've discovered the power of saying 'no', and how scaling back isn't a sign of weakness, but an open door to more.

Navigating the labyrinth of toxic stress and the pressures of productivity, I open up about the importance of not letting the need to 'produce' define our self-worth. You'll get a glimpse into my email newsletters that narrate my ongoing journey of emotional health and my relationship with the Lord. Even though I'm taking a step back, I'll continue to be a part of the Kingdom Mothers Rise Up community, always ready to lend my support. As we wrap up this chapter and gear up for the next, I'm eager to see what the Lord has in store for us when I return for season three.

Have you ever pondered upon the depth of the love the Lord has for us and how it transforms our view of ourselves?

This revealing discussion is about that epiphany - a powerful realization of my journey, embracing divine love and subsequently learning to genuinely love myself. I paint a vivid picture through the profound message in the song Belovednessby Sarah Koger, which has become a cherished anthem for me. Prepare yourself for a deeper exploration of self-love, faith, and the exhilarating experience of owning our belovedness.

During this conversation, I also delve into the beautiful song I am Your Beloved by Jonathan David & Melissa Helser, reinforcing our need to acknowledge ourselves as the cherished ones of the Lord.

What do you need to do to own your belovedness?

The true essence of love is doing what's best for the ones we love. There is a difference between self-love and selfishness. We are called to love our neighbor as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). The Father loves us as much as He loves Jesus (John 17:23).

Join me on this enlightening journey towards truly understanding and owning our belovedness.

What if I told you that teenagers are capable of having identities rooted in purpose? It's a concept I'm exploring with my guest, Coach Helen. As the founder of the RPTL (Raising Purpose-driven Teen Leaders ) Academy that works specifically with pre-teens, Helen is passionate about equipping the next generation of leaders with the skills they need to navigate through life's challenges.

You've probably heard the teenage years are tough, even more so when you feel like you're on your own. In this conversation with Coach Helen, we discuss the need for a community that supports and nurtures our teens. Helen shares how the power of togetherness, the voices of others echoing the same values you instill in your children, can greatly impact their journey to adulthood. We also delve into her hands-on approach of providing tangible testimonies of the young ones she mentors and how she is preparing them for the future.

As we wrap up our discussion, we focus on a rather interesting approach to preteen and teen development: raising kingdom financiers and entrepreneurs. Coach Helen opens up about her innovative methods, using Bible study groups as a platform to shift mindsets, cultivating a sense of purpose and identity in your children. This episode is a treasure trove of insights into the importance of a relationship with God and how to guide your children toward a purpose-driven life. Hang tight, you're in for a treat!

Meet Coach Helen
Helen Verroux, aka Coach Helen, is the founder of the Raising Purpose Driven Teen Leaders Movement (RPTL movement & Academy). She defines herself as a teen and young adult leadership expert, a youth trainer, a kingdom entrepreneur, an author, a movement maker, and a success/leadership coach.

She is also a John Maxwell certified coach and the CEO of the vibrant international company called “The Keys For Success” which helps parents, youth organizations, and schools to raise purpose-driven teen leaders without compromising their moral values. Being an educator for more than 12 years, she strongly believes that now is the time to equip young people to navigate effectively in this new economy with programs that not only revolutionize the educational system but that help teens to gain clarity on their purpose and understand the concept of financial freedom.

She has a passion for transformational leadership, personal growth, and serving others. Helen loves to discover different cultures.

We all have, and in today's episode of Kingdom Mothers Rise Up, we discuss how our emotional reactions are often automatic and involuntary, much like blinking our eyes when something comes towards our face. I find it interesting that so many women in the Bible are not named. Like the wise woman of Able.

Her story is told but not her name. I think it shows it's better to be remembered for your impact than for your name.

She spoke up and saved her city. She took a stand and had the respect of her community.

Learn from her and listen for how and where the Lord is asking you to rise up.

What do you do when things go wrong?

Do you have a meltdown?

No judgment, I've been there, too. Very recently, in fact.

The conversation with Brenda starts with how she responded differently and her journey to get there.

We discussed "little girl lies" (Brenda's term) and how they come about.

We talked about what we make things mean.

The new, the healing, only comes by walking it out because that is what rewires the brain.

In your relationship with the Lord are you like a toddler? Is it maturing?

There is another way to look at life

Let's go deeper. Let's go in another direction.

More About Brenda
Brenda has a Master's Degree in Social Work with 18+ years in trauma and attachment treatment. She's a Mom to grown daughters. An author. Loves to empower people in their kingdom identity and purpose. And gets the privilege to love hard the children, teens, and women that God has entrusted her with as a missionary in Honduras.

You have been through some stormy seasons. In each one, you come out stronger.
There are many times you want to quit. You know that is not an option so you get up and try again.

In each season you look back and see the Lord's hand at work. You also see how much effort you are putting in for so little return.

Part of it is playing the long game. Small wins today reap big rewards in the future.

Part of it is not having the tools, skills, and support you need.

Thankfully the Lord wastes nothing when you are surrendered to Him. All your honest effort and failed attempts are put to use for His glory, revealing who He has always known you to be.

Empty bucket = not doing so good.

Understanding what encourages your child and what discourages them is a big part of connecting with them emotionally. What fills their bucket? What drains it?

Being able to answer these questions about your children and for yourself go a long way in building connection.

You are responsible for your own bucket. You are also responsible to your child to steward the access you have to their bucket well.

Listen for tips on managing everyone's buckets well.

Stop striving. Let God change you.

These probably well-intentioned words hurt and frustrated me so often through the years!

If I knew how to let God change me don't you think I would have already?!
If it was His job to change me and I wasn't changing clearly I was beyond help.

This podcast is not another "Let Go & Let God" message.

I'm finally learning to let God change me by learning to receive His love. Yes, I had to learn that too.

He is for you. I am for you.

Have you ever had a thought and wondered, "Where did that thought come from?"

All the thoughts in your head aren't yours.

We are told in scripture to take every thought captive.
The first step to doing that is separating your thoughts from your emotions. What are you feeling? What are you thinking?
Once you have identified the thoughts, take them captive and see where they came from so you know what to do with them.
You can learn these skills and teach your children from a very young age.

Your enemy knows who you are and what you are capable of.

The enemy doesn't always look evil or appear dangerous.

He will use pain and hard things to derail you from your purpose and render you ineffective.

He knows he is defeated and has no authority over us. We often don't know that.

Let each attack make you stronger and reveal more of how God's resurrection power works through you.

The power of love wins. Every time.

A culture of communication involves vocabulary around emotions. It also is the attitude and behaviors demonstrated toward emotions. To connect with your child's emotions you need a vocabulary and culture where conversations can happen.
Emotion words are only part of the picture.

Do you take time to listen to why the emotion is there? Do you take time to understand your child's perspective?

Saying emotions are important and then acting like they are a bother will teach your child that emotions are a bother.

To connect with your child build a culture of communication, especially around emotions.

What is in the way of you being a warrior? Is it distractions? Lack of support? Lack of clarity? Good things keeping you too busy?

The fact that you are alive in this time in history tells me God made you to be a warrior. That may well look different for you than it does for me. We can fight differently, in different battles and all be warriors.

Being a warrior can be lonely. Sometimes, people closest to you, may not understand the risk and sacrifice you feel called to make. But a select few will get it, at least enough to stick with you.

God understands. He designed you knowing the battles you would face. He knows the passions, strengths, and weaknesses He gave you. He knows how to use them all for your good.

What example are you setting for the young warriors who are watching?

God has called you to be a warrior. He has called your child to be a warrior, too.

My word for 2023 is Warrior. I watched Wonder Woman (2017 Warner Bros.) in January and the Lord showed me so many lessons about being a warrior and raising warriors. I'll be sharing some of those insights in the next few Tuesday episodes.

The young warriors are watching and being trained every day. You can do that intentionally or unintentionally. They are watching and picking up skills and beliefs all the time.

They are blessed even by our mistakes when we model how to clean them up.

As a child, you learn and decide many things about how life works and what God was like based on interactions, or lack of interaction, with key people in your life.

Often this leads to what you know of God from scripture being in conflict with what your heart believes because of your experiences.

If your dad was a safe place to be yourself and you received love and affection you likely find it easy to feel God's love for you.

If your dad was distant, emotionally neglectful, or worse, God might seem unapproachable, uninterested, or ready to pounce on you when you mess up.

Those childhood lessons hang on and are often the places where head and heart seem to disagree.

Today's podcast talk a little more about why that is.

How did emotions become overwhelming, and scary?

It is the practice of stuffing and dismissing them that causes them to explode with hurtful consequences. The consequences are scary and hard, not the emotions themselves.

Being aware of emotions is the first step to sitting with ALL of your emotions.

Once you can sit with your emotions you can hear the Lord inviting you into an experience with Him even when those emotions are uncomfortable.

Sarah shares her experience and perspective as a therapist, woman, and mom of how Heart Doodling with Jesus is a powerful tool to be able to sit with your emotions and be curious.

Women have a special place in the Kingdom. God designed us to play essential roles as mothers to our own children and to spiritual children.

I think you agree because the most popular episodes echo this message. They also reminded me of some lessons the Lord showed me as I watched Wonder Woman.

I think season 2 of the Kingdom Mothers Rise Up Podcast will talk much more about being warriors, like a mama bear, as God designed us to be.

You can go back and listen to the most popular episodes:

1 1: It’s Time to Rise Up

2 3: Use What’s in Your Hand

3 6 Be A Mentally Present Mom

4 7: Don't Let Your Emotions Drive

5 5: Be Aware of the Schemes of the Enemy

It was an honor to interview DWayanna and help her share her story of trauma and God's beautiful redemption.

Dee's story is one of breaking generational curses and healing from trauma.

She encountered God through fasting and praying, enabling her to heal from her experiences. By establishing a deeper relationship with God, she was able to share her story of being raped with supportive friends.

Ultimately, her friend validated her experience with a message of God’s assurance and love. This inspired Dee to want to use her own experiences to help others understand that there is a life of blessings on the other side of the traumas they have endured.

Dee believes "skin to skin" time with God can break generational curses and help cultivate a greater sense of safety and connection with our Creator. Through this, Dee believes we can create a safe and supportive environment to transform our society for generations to come.

The week between Christmas and New Year's feels like a bonus week to me. I suppose because I was blessed to stay home with my children all these years and I still get a 2 week Christmas break!

I love to sit by my Christmas tree and reflect with the Lord on the last year and look ahead to the new. Looking ahead will be another episode.
Today I share some reflection questions you can use right now, regardless of the time of year you find this episode.

Reflection Questions:
Where was I a year ago?
Who was I a year ago?
What happened this year I am grateful for?
What happened this year that I struggled with?
Do I love myself more than I did a year ago?
Do I like myself more than I did a year ago?
Am I closer to the Lord than I was a year ago?
What do I not want to take into the new year with me?

Share your reflections with me in the Kingdom Mother's Rise Up Facebook Community.

Jesus
Christmas is About Jesus
Today your Savior was born in David’s town. He is Christ, the Lord. Luke 2:11 Jesus came to earth many, many years ago. His birth was very special. Jesus was God, but he was born a baby just like you.

Christmas is the time of year when you celebrate Jesus's birthday.

That’s why Christmas is about Jesus. Sure there are gifts, decorations, food, and fun, but Christmas is about Jesus. Jesus became a man so you could be forgiven of the things you’ve done wrong. He loves you so very much. Jesus wants to be your friend. That’s a great reason to celebrate!

How will you celebrate Jesus?

Mary
Say Yes to Jesus

Mary said, “I am the servant girl of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!” Luke 1:38Mary loved God and pleased God by the way she lived.

God chose her to be the mother of the Savior, Jesus. An angel came to tell her the news. She was afraid and confused. The angel told her everything would be okay.

Mary said, “Yes, I will do what God wants me to do.” She sang a song to thank God for choosing her to serve him in such a special way.

Can you sing a song to God, too?
Will you say “Yes” to the plans God has for your life?

Angels
Angels Bring News of Jesus
The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, because I am bringing you some good news. It will be a joy to all people.” Luke 2:10 Do you have an angel on the top of your Christmas tree?

The angels were busy getting ready for that first Christmas. They first delivered a message telling Zechariah he would be the father of John the Baptist. Then the angel told Mary her good news. Then, good news for Joseph. Joseph was going to help Mary raise Jesus to be a man of God.

The angels were most excited to tell the shepherds around Bethlehem that the Savior had been born. What exciting news! The angels filled the sky with light and song, praising God.

Can you bring others the Good News of Jesus and give praise to God when you see angels this Christmas?

Shepherd
Jesus is The Good Shepherd
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for the sheep … My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:11 & 27 Sheep do not worry about what they will eat. They do not worry if they will have water to drink. They do not think about where they will sleep. They just follow their shepherd’s voice, because they know he will take care of them.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He makes sure you have people to take care of you, food to eat, and a place to sleep. Jesus gives you strength and wisdom to make good choices. God sends the Holy Spirit to be with you, to teach you and comfort you.

If you believe in him, Jesus makes sure you have a place to live forever in heaven. Do you know Jesus’s voice and follow him?

Shepherds
Share the Good News
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child. Luke 2:17 (NIV) Shepherds were outside watching their sheep near Bethlehem on the night Jesus was born. Things were going along as usual when an angel appeared. The shepherds were very afraid. Would you have been afraid?

The angel told them not to be afraid. He had good news. The Messiah they were waiting for had been born.

Suddenly, the whole sky was filled with angels singing praises to God. The shepherds went right away to find the baby.

After they saw Jesus, they told Mary what they had seen. The shepherds went and told everyone they could about the wonderful things that had happened.

Shepherds remind us to share with others that Christmas is about Jesus. Can you be like the shepherds and tell what God has done for you?

Sheep
Jesus is the Lamb of God
He saw Jesus walking by and said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” John 1:36 At the time Jesus was born, God’s people made sacrifices of animals to show God they were sorry for the things they had done wrong.

One of the animals they used was a lamb. The lamb had to be perfect, but really even the perfect lambs could not take away people’s sins. The people were obeying God by giving the sacrifices, and that was very important.

Jesus came to be the final sacrifice to take care of everyone’s sins. Jesus lived life making no mistakes; he was perfect. His death was the perfect sacrifice. You have to believe God did this for you. There is no need to make sacrifices of animals anymore.

Do you believe God is satisfied? Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world and all of your sins, too.

Stars
Jesus is the Way
Jesus answered, “I am the way. And I am the truth and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.” John 14:6 There was a very special star on the first Christmas. Scholars from faraway countries noticed the special star. The star told them someone special had been born. The star showed the way for the Wise Men to find Jesus. They found the King who had been born and worshiped him.

Jesus gives you many things to show you the way to live. He gives you parents and other adults to teach you right from wrong. The Bible tells you things God wants you to know about God and the way to live. Jesus showed you to live loving people with God’s love. Creation shows you how awesome God is. Stars are part of God’s creation. Even today they tell people about Jesus, the creator.

Can you tell people Jesus is the Way?

Wise Men
Obey Jesus

“If you love me, you will do the things I command.” John 14:15 The wise men in the Christmas story lived very far away from where Jesus was born. They loved to study the stars. When they were studying the stars, they noticed a special star. It was so special they decided it meant a great king had been born. They knew they had to make a long journey to see this king and worship him.

The wise men found Jesus and his family in Bethlehem and gave them gifts for a king. The Wise men put a lot of effort and time into finding Jesus so they could honor him. They gave him their best gifts.

Jesus gave his very best for you. Will you give him your very best?

Gifts
Jesus is the Best Gift
This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him. 1 John 4:9 The first Christmas gift was from God to every person on earth. He sent his very own Son to be the Savior for each person who would receive his gift. The next gifts were brought to Jesus by the wise men.

Today people give gifts to people they love and care about and to people who do not have things they need. If you give a toy to a child who doesn’t have any, you are giving it to God. You can give the gift that God gave the first Christmas by telling people about Jesus.

Can you think of a way to include the best gift, Jesus, with your other gifts?

Holly
Jesus Suffered for Me
That is what you were called to do. Christ suffered for you. He gave you an example to follow. So you should do as he did. 1 Peter 2:21 Long ago people used holly plants to decorate their homes at Christmas. The green plants brought life into the homes during the dark winter.

Holly reminds you Jesus came to give you life. The leaves of the holly have sharp points like the crown of thorns Jesus had to wear. The holly blossom is white, to remind you of Jesus’s purity. The blossom turns to a red berry. Red is for the blood Jesus shed for everyone’s sins.

Holly also has a bitter tasting bark. Jesus faced many bitter things when he lived on earth. When you see holly, remember Jesus loved you enough to suffer for you.

Have you thanked Jesus for loving you so much?

Candles
Share Jesus’ Light
“In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so they will see the good things you do. Live so that they will praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Candles used to be the only light people had after the sun went down. The candles had to be set up high to spread their light as far as possible. Now candles are mostly used for decoration.

As some families celebrate Advent, they light a candle each week for the four weeks before Christmas Day.

Candles can remind you Jesus wants you to be a light to the people around you. You can be a light by being loving and kind, like Jesus. When you act like Jesus, you show people Jesus loves them. You spread the light of Jesus by telling others what Jesus has done for you. Jesus forgives your sins. He will forgive the sins of anyone who asks him. He is with you all the time.

How will you share Jesus’s light?

Songs
Worship Jesus
And Mary said: “My soul praises the Lord, and my heart is happy because God is my Savior.” Luke 1:46, 47Songs have been part of Christmas since the very first.

Mary sang about being the mother of Jesus. The angels sang praises to God after telling the good news of Jesus' birth.

There are many songs that are fun to sing. Many more songs tell the amazing story of that first Christmas when God became a man.

Listen closely to the songs this Christmas. Who’s telling the story?

Sometimes it’s Mary, sometimes the shepherds. Could it sometimes be you telling the story of Christmas being about Jesus?

Will you sing songs this Christmas that worship Jesus?

Bells
Jesus is Coming Again
“You saw Jesus taken away from you into heaven. He will come back in the same way you saw him go.” Acts 1:11b Bells are shiny and bright. They are beautiful and make wonderful music. You can enjoy seeing and hearing them, especially at Christmas.

Bells were used to let people know what was happening. The bells would ring for the time of day and for church service. Bells would announce celebrations like weddings and toll slowly when announcing someone had died.

Like the bells making announcements, God gave his people many announcements about a Messiah. These promises are written in the Old Testament. The promises told where the Messiah would be born, who his family would be, the life the Messiah would live, and how he would die and come back to life again. There are also many promises about Jesus coming again to set up his eternal kingdom.

You know Jesus will come again, because all the promises God made about sending a Messiah came true the first Christmas.

When you see bells, ask, “Am I ready for Jesus to come again?”

Doves
Jesus is the Prince of Peace
A Child will be born to us. God will give a son to us. He will be responsible for leading the people. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Powerful God, Father Who Lives Forever, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Have you seen doves in Christmas decorations?

Doves stand for peace.

Jesus is called the Prince of Peace.

The angel told the shepherds the Savior had come to bring peace to people. The peace that Jesus brings does not mean there won’t be any more wars or fighting.

Jesus brings peace you can have on the inside no matter what is going on outside: peace knowing God loves you, peace knowing God has forgiven all your sins and will take you to heaven one day, peace knowing God will never leave you and will always take care of you, peace knowing God is working all things out for your good.

Will you make Jesus your Prince of Peace?

Jesus is the Bread of Life

Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. He who comes to me will never be hungry. He who believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35 Do you like to eat cookies?

Cookies are just one of many special foods people enjoy at Christmas. What are some special foods your family enjoys?
Special foods at Christmas are just extra and fun. You don’t need them to survive.

Do you know you need spiritual food?

Jesus said he was the Bread of Life. You need Jesus every day just like you need food every day. Even with all the special foods, you will get hungry again.

Jesus tells you to feed on his Word, the Bible, and you will never be hungry again. Of course, you still have to eat. Jesus is talking about spiritual hunger. If you are spiritually hungry, Jesus is the Bread who can satisfy.

How can you eat the Bread of Life?

Fruit
Jesus is the Vine
“I am the vine, and you are the branches. If a person remains in me and I remain in him, then he produces much fruit. But without me he can do nothing.” John 15:5 Grapes grow on vines. If a branch is cut off the vine, it will not grow any grapes. In fact it will die.

Jesus called himself the “vine” and said believers in him are branches. Like the grapevine gives life to the branches, Jesus gives life to you.

When you believe in Jesus, you should grow to be more like him.

You will begin to grow the Fruit of the Spirit in your life “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, selfcontrol.” (Galatians 5:22, 23a, NIV) You can not grow this fruit on your own. You need help from Jesus.

How do you stay connected to Jesus? Are you letting Jesus grow good fruit through you?

Christmas Lights
Jesus is the Light
Later Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the Light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness. He will have the light that gives life.” John 8:12

People put lights everywhere at Christmas. You see them on houses and trees. Some people even have lights on their jewelry or neckties!

Why all the lights?

To say Jesus is the Light of the World.

Light is like Jesus in many ways. Light is very special because you cannot make it dirty. Jesus came to the world and lived around people who did things wrong, but he never did anything wrong. Light can always be seen no matter how dark it is. Jesus is always with you no matter where you are, what you’ve done, or what’s happened to you. Jesus shines his light of hope like a flashlight in the dark.

Without Jesus, you can never be good enough for God to let you into heaven or to have a relationship with him. That is a very dark, hopeless thought. Jesus came to be the way for you to go to heaven. Jesus came to make you God’s friend. That is a very light, hopeful thought. How can you tell someone Jesus is the Light?

Christmas Trees
Jesus is The Life

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will have life even if he dies.” John 11:25 Does your family decorate a Christmas tree?

Christmas trees remind you of Jesus in many ways.

Christmas trees are green showing they are alive. Jesus came to give you life. Christmas trees are always green. Even through trials and hard times like winter, they stay green. Jesus is still alive. He gives you life now and forever if you believe.
Trees point up, where Jesus went after he finished his work on earth.
The cross Jesus died on was made from a tree.
Trees provide shelter and protection. Jesus provides salvation, life, and other needs for each one who follows him.

Will you remember Jesus when you see all the beautiful trees at Christmas?

Hats
Jesus is the King of Kings

On his robe and on his leg was written this name “King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” Revelation 19:16

What kinds of hats do you see at Christmas?

Some people wear hats because it is cold outside. Some wear Santa Claus hats. Some hats tell you about what people do. Police and soldiers wear hats as part of their uniform; so do firefighters.

Jesus only wore one special kind of hat on his head when he was on earth. It was a crown of thorns. Jesus didn’t want to wear the crown of thorns; mean people pushed it onto his head before he died for your sins.

Jesus is the King of Kings. The crown he wears now is more beautiful than can be imagined.

Do you know the Bible says that one day, if you believe and serve Jesus, you will receive crowns, too?

When you see all the Santa Claus hats, you can think of the crown King Jesus wears and the one he will give to you one day.

St. Nicholas
Serve Jesus by Giving

Remember this: The person who plants a little will have a small harvest. But the person who plants a lot will have a big harvest. Each one should give, then, what he has decided in his heart to give. He should not give if it makes him sad. And he should not give if he thinks he is forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily. 2 Corinthians 9:6, 7

Everywhere you look at Christmas time you see Santa Claus or St. Nicholas. Did you ever wonder why? The real Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, was born in Turkey long ago. He loved God very much, even as a boy. He loved to give gifts. The government did not like Christians and Nicholas was put in prison for being a Christian. Nicholas is remembered for his love of children and his giving. He saved people from slavery and hunger. People that knew about him thought he was good enough to be made a saint in the Catholic Church. So he became St. Nicholas. His name and the traditions surrounding him are different all over the world. The important thing to remember is that Nicholas loved Jesus and shared Jesus’s love with others by giving his money and his time. Is there any way you and your family can give to God by helping people in need this Christmas?

Candy Cane
Jesus is The Rock

“Everyone who hears these things I say and obeys them is like a wise man. The wise man built his house on rock.” Luke 7:24

Have you heard candy canes were made just to tell people about Jesus? Candy is sweet, like the Good News that God loves you and has great plans for you. The white reminds you of Jesus’s holiness. The red stripes remind you of Jesus’s blood. The peppermint flavor is similar to a flavor the Bible calls hyssop, which means “to make something clean.” Jesus makes you clean from your sins when you ask him. The shape of the candy cane one way is a “J” for Jesus; the other way it’s a shepherd’s staff, because Jesus is The Good Shepherd. The hardness of the candy cane reminds you Jesus is your “Rock,” very steady, a good place to build your life. Jesus never changes his mind or his promises. Do you trust Jesus to be the firm foundation for your life?

Have you made some of the ornaments on your tree? Ornaments are for everyone to enjoy. They can help you to remember past Christmases and that Christmas is about Jesus. When Jesus was on earth people enjoyed being around him. People should like to be around you, too. You can be kind and loving toward people. You can love people with God’s love, just like Jesus did. Snow
Jesus Makes us Clean

The Lord says, “Come, we will talk these things over. Your sins are red like deep cloth. But they can be as white as snow.” Isaiah 1:18a

Do you get to go out and play in the snow at Christmas time? The snow covers the ground and makes everything look new and clean. The whole world looks beautiful, pure, and white. Snow can remind you of Jesus. He is beautiful, clean, and pure. Jesus lived his life and never did anything wrong. When Jesus died, he didn’t stay dead. Jesus is alive. Do you believe in Jesus? Then you can be forgiven of all the things you have done wrong. When you tell God what you have done wrong, he will forgive you. You can be made pure and clean like Jesus. Do you know what that means? Jesus will be your friend now, and you will live with God in heaven after you die.

The Christmas is About Jesus Series features daily readings from Mukkove's book, Christmas is About Jesus: Family Devotions for December, available on Amazon and most online booksellers.

Christmas is a busy and wonderful time of the year. It can be easy to forget why you are doing what you are doing. It can be hard to make time to focus on Jesus even as we prepare to celebrate His birth.

My prayer is that sharing these short devotions on the podcast will help you refocus as well as start discussions with your children about what you are celebrating and why.

December 1st shows you are special like a snowflake, no duplicates and that Jesus is one of a kind in another way, too.

Blessings,

Mommy, I don't want the stories about old people in robes.

This was the statement that got Abbey Feldkamp started on the adventure of writing her first book. She knew Jesus was relevant to her young daughter now and could see how the Bible stories where no one dressed like her made that harder to understand.

Abbey has recently released her faith-based board book, Wonderful, Marvelous, Magnificent You.

Wonderful, Marvelous, Magnificent You offers young children an engaging and colorful tool for teaching them about Jesus in a relatable way. It was crafted as a rhyming story with vivid imaginative and playful scenes to captivate the reader’s attention. It's an offset lithography printed book with durable, hard pages. The illustrations and text are all hand-drawn.

From the Author:

Through the pandemic, I saw my own children suffer, and I saw other children suffer. I saw their lights diminish and their faith in themselves grow dim. They struggled in school, they struggled to find confidence, and they struggled to have success in social interactions because they were shut away from the world for so long. Their confidence was starved and they became uneasy, anxious, and uncertain.

I knew I needed to bring them a story about just how amazing and resilient they can be--a beautiful, feel-good rhyming story about how wonderful, marvelous and magnificent kids truly are! This is how the story began.

This book beautifully illustrates just how special God made children of every culture and ability. It is diverse, inclusive, and wholesome. Children need to hear the simple message that Jesus loves them, just as they are.

This resource is a perfect companion to your daily children’s bible—the reader will see themselves reflected in the story with Jesus. It also encourages the reader to use their imagination and understand Jesus in a modern way. Perfect for gifting and reading at home, this will become an heirloom storybook to enjoy, handed down from generation to generation.

Abbey Feldkamp was born and raised in Minnesota. Along with being a children’s author, she is a flower farmer specializing in English roses. Abbey believes reading is an essential life skill for children, and igniting a passion for that is her goal.

When you rise up into what God is calling you to you are also equipping your children to live their faith.

You pass on what you live far more than what you teach.

Your kids are watching and learning even when maybe especially when you're not being intentional.

Are you laying bricks or building a cathedral?

The small things you do consistently in mothering add up to make a big difference.

Using your voice is connected to your level of intimacy in marriage.

God will use the things you have been through to bless others. That's how Mary started doing what she is doing to help women thrive in their marriages.

After being married to a man addicted to pornography for a few months she was crushed and asked, "God, is this what it's all about?" She worked on herself and the marriage while he just kind of showed up.

She had her voice in every other area of life except her marriage.

Hear her story and be encouraged!

Mary Whitman Ortiz, MA, CLC is passionate about empowering healthy sexuality in marriage. As a Christian sex educator, relationship coach, author, and speaker, she helps couples globally, and is regularly featured on TV as a relationship expert. She also trains church and ministry leaders to facilitate sexual healing and wholeness.
God brought healing to sexual wounds from her past, so she knows first-hand the joy of restoration and freedom. Mary is happily married to Tim. Together, they love to jet ski and travel.

A Daily Temperature Reading is a tool Mary uses and recommends for communication in marriage.

A garden is often a place God speaks to me. That's where this podcast started brewing - in the carrot beds where tiny carrots were drowning in weeds.

It's not enough to remove the weeds (bad things) from your life. There are also good things that need to go to make room for the harvest you are called to be cultivating.

I love the lessons God teaches me in the garden. It reminds me of the parables where Jesus used nature to teach about Kingdom life.

Trying to fit it all in might leave you with a weed patch.

Know what God is calling you to.
Be okay with lots of empty space.
Eliminate everything that God did not say to plant in this season.

How you interact with your children directly impacts how they will interact with God.

I don't say this to scare you. I do want to make you aware and give you tools to make your impact a positive one.

In this episode, I share a story of how allowing my daughter to tell me how she felt brought deep conviction about how my bad attitude was impacting her and her relationship with God. He has most certainly given her to me as a gift to make me more like Jesus!

Listen to the story and let me know if you can relate.

Talking with April Tiedeman in episode 8 inspired me to discuss seeing your children as one of your ministries.

If we have a ministry to people outside our home we intentionally prepare for that. What about the people inside our home?

Intentionally prepare to minister to your children by:

  • have a connection with the Lord
  • prepare your home
  • set & keep boundaries

April has been an inspiration to me since not long after I met her. She has embraced God's call to RISE UP again and again.

At one time in her life she was on drugs and today she has a successful business, has written a book, and ministers in the women's prison.

It was my first interview so I don't feel I captured her story as well as I could have. I know her story will inspire and encourage you to say yes to what God is calling you to.

Emotions are a gift from God.
It is not a good idea to let them drive!
It's also not a good idea to stuff them in the trunk, try to leave them along the side of the road, or try to trick them into being quiet.
They have important information for you when you learn to listen.

Hey Mom, do you find yourself looking for just the right strategy or schedule that is going to fix everything? Does it feel like you're missing something you need to break through to what the Lord has promised you?

Maybe He's saying to use what's your hand.
