We’ve all probably heard the phrase - “The Great Resignation”, or perhaps “The Great Retention”, but what is driving this and is it more than a pandemic thing?
Well, over the last 2-years we have all experienced tumultuous and constant change.
What with the more obvious pandemic lockdown restrictions, we have also been left reeling with continuing head-spinning disruption and the rapid changes caused the new emerging tech economy. Post-pandemic, we now face an uncertain economic situation. We worry about paying bigger bills, dealing with spiralling cost pressures, and rising inflation, meaning a tightening of our belts.
Maybe you were looking forward to enjoying fruits of your hard work, or planning early retirement. But now, instead, like many people you may have to put off that much needed holiday, or delay taking that pension plan. Younger people are left with the prospect of working hard for less money in their pocket and paying of their education debts.
Nikki believes these factors have left many people disillusioned with their work, feeling stuck in a career rut. Getting off the hamster wheel feels a priority, compelling a drive to reset, realign, re-evaluate and review their work-life-career.
