Civil society organisations play a vital role in a functioning democracy, creating a bridge between citizens and the state. With the UK’s future in flux facing many challenges as we tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and leave the EU we need to embrace the expertise and experience of organisations.
At the moment organisations face many barriers to being engaged by government of all levels. To hear more about what these are and why they need to be broken down, Jacob Millen-Bamford speaks to Nathalie Sherring from Dorset Race Equality Council

This is part two of the two part series on delegated legislation. To hear part one click here. The delegated legislation process is complex but major policy changes are made using it. Therefore it is crucial that civil society organisations across the UK understand how to engage with the process. Delegated legislation, laws created by ministers, is complex and until recently a niche topic. Throughout the Brexit process, and more recently during the Coronavirus pandemic, the Government has made extensive use of them. To understand what delegated legislation is, and what the issues surrounding them are, Jacob Millen-Bamford speaks to Ruth Fox from Hansard Society, and Alexandra Sinclair from the Public Law Project. The Internal Market Bill is a controversial piece of legislation that threatens the rule of law, devolution, and the maintenance of high standards across the UK.
It is also a very complex piece of legislation covering issues such as mutual recognition that many are not familiar with. To learn more about what the Bill aims to do, why it is a threat, and why the Bill is important, Jacob Millen-Bamford spoke to Charles Whitmore.
Charles Whitmore is the Coordinator for the Wales Civil Society Forum on Brexit and has also conducted doctoral research on mutual recognition.

The Brexit process has cast light on issues and tensions within the devolution settlement in the UK. While a member of the European Union the UK has benefited from access to EU funding schemes. As the UK has left the EU access to these stops. The UK Government has promised to replace the funding with the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
