We close out the year with promises of the coming of the Messiah to God's people from the lineage of King David, we hear the explanation of the purpose of the messiah's coming, and we see the response to such wondrous news lived out in the visitation as told by St. Luke. Christmas is around the corner, and this week's readings help us understand, "What? So what? And now what?" when it comes to the way we ought to live our lives as followers of Christ.
This week, we get explicit about joy, mercy, and justice, and we see the comfort and responsibility that comes with the call to open the self to God's gift to us.
This week, we see continuations of themes from the first week: re-naming as a means of re-defining purpose; continuation of the work God started in us and in the world; and God's salvation coming in the low moment and showing us our reason to rejoice.
