Being a professional success, but a personal mess is no way to live! Got Value? Podcast shows you how to prioritize mental wellbeing and professional growth in every aspect of your life. We explore the #valueinpurpose featuring thought leaders, executives and dope humans who are committed to building lives that feel as good as they look.
In the “Harnessing the Power of Resilience” session, Shirley King sat down to discuss just how important perspective, fulfillment, and achievement really are. Our life’s purpose may look different and although we can’t choose the cards we’re dealt, we do get to decide how we will play them. Be willing to see beyond what’s in front of you. Step back to get a different vantage point even when things are hard. Your life’s purpose is not solely what you do. Leading is not enough if you’re not also fulfilled in what you do.

Since the pandemic there has been a very focus on burnout, but what we’re missing is a key driver — our feelings. The culture of busyness deflects from what we’re actually feeling. Feeling stuck at start?
In this session, transformation coach Alechia Reese sits with Jackie Hermes, founder + CEO of Accelity, who emphasized the importance of using personal boundaries to overcome the fear of getting started. Giving yourself leeway when you have valid reasons is understandable. Putting yourself on a time limit and holding yourself accountable is where you begin. And you keep yourself focused by reminding yourself not to get opinions from everyone before making decisions. Determine your process and limit it to a specific timeline. Remember, the cost of waiting is often so much more expensive than the cost of making mistakes during the process. Listen in now for the tools, gems, and takeaways!

VALUED QUOTES: * Have the courage to make one million mistakes, but the wisdom to not make the same mistake one million times. * If you learn a lesson from every mistake, imagine how smart you’re going to be if you’ve made a million mistakes but they’re all new mistakes and you’re learning from each one. * For people of color, it’s not a corporate ladder. It can be very isolating to sometimes walk in truth and authenticity because we all want connection and community. So many do not walk in their truth because of that isolation.

VALUED NOTES: Who you become without the inhibitors of fear and expectations is who you are at your essence.
Knowing who you are at your core helps you to operate at your highest level.
Ask questions to uncover your own layers. It all starts with asking yourself, “How does this experience feel to me?”
How are you supposed to choose joy when you’re not actually choosing joy?

In this Leader Bites Session, Transformation Coach, Alechia Reese clarifies comfort zones and the need for safe spaces. VALUED NOTES: Comfort zones are beautiful places, but nothing ever grows there.
You deny yourself the gift of growth when you refuse to move out of your comfort zone.
When you’re so focused on never wanting to be uncomfortable you’re telling growth, new opportunities, and advancement of your future self – no.
VALUED QUOTES: * Comfort zones are rest stops. They are necessary and revolutionary! However, if you get too comfortable turning rest stops into lodging areas you stunt your growth. There is a gift in your discomfort. Embrace it! * The gift that comes with discomfort is growth. * Having knowledge is not enough if you never actually apply it.

VALUED NOTES: There are multiple ways to get to what you want. Be so committed to yourself, your faith, and your belief in yourself that you do whatever it takes – even if you have to take an alternative route to get there.
You do not have to subscribe to a belief and stay in patterns that don’t feel good to your nervous system.
Step out of boxes that are too restricting for you. You are not required to buy into the stories, societal norms, and systems that don’t work for you.
VALUED QUOTES: * You do not have to subscribe to the reality that others require or try to impose on you. * What you look for is what you’ll find more of. * Knowledge only counts when you apply it. If you don’t apply what you know then you don’t get the benefit of that knowledge.

Elizabeth Herrick, Health Coach of Herrick Health & Wellness, helps active women understand their bodies’ unique nutritional needs so that they can beat burnout, avoid fatigue and empower their lives, joined Transformation Coach, Alechia Reese for the conversation “Uniquely Me”. VALUED NOTES: Instead of focusing on what was, or what could be, take time to accept what it is and consider how you feel about it.
When considering what we deserve, so often we sell ourselves short and don’t take into account that we are deserving of an expansive life.
It is normal to want and have desires.
We should normalize asking for support and asking for help.
Look at mistakes as feedback, not as something you did “wrong”, but as a place to learn from.
The language of using the word “sorry” often places blame where there is none.
Ask for what you want, your time is of value, and you are deserving of the support you need to be successful.
Shift your mindset to ask what your food can do for you.
There is an importance of listening to your body and honoring its needs.
VALUED QUOTES: * Sometimes I don't need all the parts of me to be understood, to be respected. - Elizabeth Herrick * Progress can look different, and perfection can look different, and that changes as we grow. - Elizabeth Herrick * When we are defining what works, what doesn’t, how we want things to be, we kind of forget what we actually want. - Alechia Reese * Being deserving and worthy of something is not being entitled. - Elizabeth Herrick * Settling into what you deserve and what you want and what matters to you, knowing that allows you to more clearly, and more effectively, articulate what your needs are to others. - Alechia Reese * My definition of an empowered life is not allowing the things that scare me to stop me from doing something that I would find exciting. - Alechia Reese * To live an empowered life means that you are setting your own goals and you are the one who's taking the steps. - Elizabeth Herrick * When you do give away so much of your power, you tend to forget that you even have it. - Alechia Reese * Food can fuel your success. - Elizabeth Herrick * Mindset and body and energy are all connected. - Elizabeth Herrick

VALUED NOTES: It is incredibly important to focus not just on the end goal and the numbers, but to focus on the people who you work with.
It is important to have your own understanding of yourself, because some people will only ever see you how they want to see you.
Awareness and reflection are critical elements in discovering yourself.
Self discovery is founded on the acceptance of the version of yourself you are sharing, understanding the facade you show others if there is one and why you hide parts of yourself, and there blind spots that you don’t see in yourself.
It’s okay to have areas of yourself that you don’t like, and be able to identify them as an area to work on and change.
Make choices out of passion.
Allow yourself to recognize the times that you have had to do what it takes to survive, be able to accept that and unpack the baggage. You are able to shift who you are and how you show up moving forward.

Got Value Nation: http://tribe.gotvaluenation.com
VALUED NOTES: Step one is that you have to discover it, you have to access it.
If you are aligned with the flow of the work you are doing it does not feel burdensome.
Prioritizing your purpose is essential to feeling fulfilled. Frustration only comes when you have not been actionable toward your goals.
It is much easier to place blame on others but it is important to look to yourself, your actions, to determine what you can do to reach your goals.
You should not be frustrated if you have taken the time to write out the manageable steps that it will take for you to make this manifest and every day you work on it.
You can turn frustration into action, and then accomplishment.
Find people who are supportive. It is harder to grow when you are surrounded by naysayers.
Change in life should not be feared. You will keep going, you will find your new path.
VALUED QUOTES: * Claim it. Cultivate it. State it. Articulate it. - Harriette Cole * A lot of times we give away our best stuff without ever pouring into us. - Alechia Reese * Everybody can’t be in that cultivation period. - Alechia Reese * Attitude is everything. - Harriette Cole * You will have little successes which will fuel your energy. You can replace frustration with accomplishment. - Harriette Cole * If you’re not putting action behind it, it's just sweet pretty nothings. - Alechia Reese * No moment is promised other than the one you are in. - Harriette Cole * Go beyond the boundaries to think bigger. - Harriette Cole * It's in the moment of awareness, that we can make a choice and a change. - Harriette Cole * I may not be perfect at day one, but as long as I am making progress, even when the steps are a centimeter forward, that is still not in the place that I once was and I am going to be okay with that. - Alechia Reese * We can all make dreams come true, we just have to work at it. - Harriette Cole * Confidence is built by doing. - Alechia Reese * It's not pass/fail, it's living your life fully. - Harriette Cole

The “doing” in your life has taken over. * When you start to realize you’re missing the moments that make life rich and full it’s time to make changes. * In order to think about health and taking care of things, you must start with you. How are you taking care of the inside stuff that nobody sees? * Just because it’s your best doesn’t mean it’s sufficient. * Think about prioritization based on impact. It’s doing what’s most important based on what needs to be done.

Camille John, D&I Enterprise Head of Bank of America, joined Transformation Coach, Alechia Reese for the conversation, “Honoring You First.” Too many times we say yes our of obligation because we’re taught to show up and our word must be our bond, however, it can’t bond you to the point you’re defeating yourself. Take a step back, do an audit, and analyze how you felt when you showed up playing a role that wasn’t of your best and highest use. This episode helps us all serve best by honoring ourselves first.
VALUED NOTES: Take a step back, do an audit and analyze how you felt when you showed up playing a role that wasn’t of your best and highest use.
Give people and yourself choices [options]. Just because you’ve always done something or showed up a certain way you have to always do it that way.
We’re taught to show up and our word must be our bond, however, it can’t bond you to the point you’re defeating yourself.
Evaluate how your “yes” is going to make you feel. Do you feel good about what you gave, or is it only out of obligation?
Respect the process of rooting by giving yourself time to grow.

Rhonesha Byng, founder and CEO of Her Agenda, joined Transformation Coach, Alechia Reese for the conversation, “Creating Your Own Agenda.” There’s no age limit on discovering your purpose. If you want to get closer to it, get still, and take a look at what people come to you for - explore it, put yourself out there and say yes to new experiences. Sharing and vocalizing your ideas can sometimes help you get aligned with where you need to be. The media has the power to shape how you think about a certain community, and Rhonesha decided to change perspectives by creating her media company, Her Agenda. Above all else, you are equipped. You have it within you. Whatever it is that you’re meant to do in this world, you have what you need. Know that, recognize it, and feel that.
VALUABLES: A lot of what we have in us naturally, we don’t recognize as a gift or a skill because it comes so naturally to us. Those skills help us actualize our purpose.
Should is B.S.. Are you doing what aligns with your purpose and brings you joy?
If you figure out your why, your perceived limitations can be used to help you get better.
You discover amazing things when you start moving.
It matters who’s talking to you because they see things that you may not see.

Noa Ries and Kim Havens, co-founders of the award-winning e-learning platform - Kahilla, joined Transformation Coach, Alechia Reese for the conversation “Growth Through Impact.” It taps into the magic that happens when women work together, are clear on their zones of genius, and strategic about how to show other women executives and leaders how to sharpen their skills through learning and development and equitable access to opportunities.
VALUED NOTES: Our value (intrinsic skills) is what comes easiest to us, but you still have to hone and develop it.
Confidence is developed over time and being able to stand in your truth and listen to it takes time.
It’s the combination of grit and grace, identifying what feels graceful and doing that again and again, and again. It’s not just gritting through things. It’s knowing your gift, and gritting through the development of it.
Just because you’re good at it, doesn’t mean you have to do it.
Approach everything with curiosity. Learn the difference between what meh and amazing feels in your body and go in the direction that feels best for you.
You deserve more than meh, allow yourself to want what you want.
It’s not okay to do the things you should do when it’s not what you want to do.
VALUABLES: Fully flawsome - full of flaws, but imperfectly perfect.
In order to transform you need to have a good idea of where you are and where you want to be.
If it doesn’t challenge you, it’s not going to change you.
You'll find where and what people will pay you for at the intersection of your values, interests, and abilities.
Leaning into your strengths versus your weaknesses makes you stronger.
Make a choice, own your choices, and get into the driver’s seat of your life.
Life happens in chapters. There’s no pressure, it's a constant journey of authoring your narrative.
There’s always a next and you don’t have to know what that “next” is today.
