You built your product; you launched your business.
You saw success, money in the bank, a growing team, a happy client, but now you feel like you're drowning.
I'm here to help you get your head above water.
I'm Lauren Goldstein. My clients call me the Business Doctor.
Together, we’ll diagnose the root cause of your business worries - whether it's your people, your process, your product, we'll clarify your businesses so you can scale without the burnout.
Then we will simplify it all so your business can do what it's designed to do - make a profit and an impact.
Welcome to The Biz Doctor Podcast.
Why does it feel like that the closer you get to success in your business, the more your brain slams on the brakes?
In this episode of The Biz Doctor® Podcast, Lauren Goldstein breaks down the sneaky ways your nervous system self-sabotages when growth feels unfamiliar ... from chaos-creation, to imposter syndrome, to the endless “getting ready to get ready” loops, your brain is a master at keeping you stuck.
If you’ve ever wondered why next-level success feels harder than it “should,” this is the mindset shifting episode your business (and your success) has been begging for.
Lauren unpacks the evolutionary design of your brain, why comfort zones are survival zones, how “upper limits” quietly caps your revenue and visibility, how entrepreneurs unknowingly engineer chaos to stay essential, and how to get yourself back in the drivers seat and over this hump.
This episode is the launching pad for business owners who are ready to stop playing small, who want to collapse time to reach their goals faster, AND build a business that runs without them.

Ever catch yourself thinking, “Why can’t they just figure it out?” In this episode, Lauren Goldstein breaks down the No. 1 reason most business owners (and leaders) get frustrated with their teams: unspoken expectations.
From client onboarding disasters to dropped balls to messy handoffs, Lauren explains how lack of clarity (not incompetence) is often the root cause.
Drawing from her 7 C’s of a High-Performance Teams framework, Lauren reveals how “definition of done,” outcome-based delegation, and the five-question clarity check can radically improve execution speed, reduce bottlenecks, increase success (and profits) and unlock player-level performance.
If you want a more accountable team, fewer interruptions, and a business that doesn’t rely on you to referee every decision, this episode is your new playbook.

And yes, Lauren also walks through the different kinds of meetings worth having, so you can use the right one at the right time.
If your calendar is full but execution still feels behind and you want to get out of meeting overwhlem, press play.

If you have ever wondered whether you can have the business, the family, and the life without burning out to pay for it, this conversation is for you.
Kelly Roach joins Lauren Goldstein to talk about what it really looks like to build a business that fits around your life, not the other way around. This is not about hacks, shortcuts, or hustle culture. It is about creating freedom in a way that is sustainable, human, and rooted in trust.
Together, they explore a different way of building: staying close to your market instead of hiding behind automation, designing a business that supports real life, and choosing consistency over constant pressure. The result is not less ambition. It is more spaciousness, clarity, and confidence as a leader.
In this episode, we dig into:
* Why automating too early can quietly pull you away from the people you want to serve
* How rebuilding real connection with your audience makes selling feel lighter and more natural
* The Miracle Hour concept and how a steady daily rhythm can reduce stress and burnout
* A reframe of selling as leadership, service, and invitation, not force
* An honest conversation about whether scaling is actually aligned with the life you want

You have built a successful business.
So why does it feel heavier than you expected?
Building a business should not require sacrificing your health, relationships, or sanity. Yet for many business owners, burnout quietly becomes the cost of growth.
You have built something that works. A thriving business. Real momentum. A level of success most people never reach. And if you are honest, it may sometimes feel more like a job than the freedom you set out to create. Not because anything is broken, but because the business has grown and the way you lead it now matters more than ever.
This episode is about that next level.
In this milestone episode, Lauren reflects on 15 years advising leaders behind the scenes and 99 episodes distilling the lessons that matter most at the intersection of growth, leadership, and freedom.
This is not theory or a highlight reel. These are the patterns that consistently separate owners who feel trapped by their success from those who actually enjoy what they have built and successfull transition from operator to owner.
This conversation is not about doing more. It is about refining how you think, decide, and lead so the business supports you as much as you support it. The kind of shifts that create more space, more clarity, and more enjoyment; making success feel lighter and more sustainable rather than more demanding.
This episode is especially relevant if you are gearing up for the next level and craving the freedom you started your business for.
Key Moments
02:10 — The real cost of waiting to feel ready
08:20 — The silent killer of momentum
10:35 — The decision most owners delay too long
16:50 — Letting go without losing control
21:15 — What shifts to go from busy to productive

Let's be honest: you're spending half your week in meetings that accomplish very little.
You know the ones. Someone drones on about updates that could've been a Slack message. Eight people sit there while two hash out something irrelevant. You walk out wondering "what did we just accomplish?" and immediately get pulled into another one.
Meanwhile, the actual work that would grow your business and create momentum? Squeezed into the margins because your calendar looks like Tetris designed by a sadist.
Here's what most people aren't saying: your meetings are probably broken. And it's likely costing you momentum, focus, and your team's sanity; not to mention your profitability.
The good news? This is SO fixable.
Whether you're dealing with meeting overload, ineffective leadership meetings, or a team drowning in calendar chaos, there's a better way to run your meeting and your business.
In this episode, I'm walking you through the exact framework I use with my clients to cut the meeting madness. The four types of meetings you actually need, the metrics worth tracking, and how to give your team their time back.
Here's what's waiting in the episode:
* [2:40] The 4 meeting types that create real momentum (not more busy work)
* [1:29] Why "leadership meetings" with everyone on the call tend to accomplish very little
* [3:53] The 3 questions that surface problems before they become dumpster fires
* [6:16] How to stop tracking vanity metrics and watch the numbers that better predict what's coming
* [10:15] The 1-3-1 rule that stops meetings from turning into complaint sessions
The average employee spends 103 hours per year in unnecessary meetings. Woof. That's three full work weeks per person your team could spend shipping products, closing deals, and going home on time. Your meetings don't have to suck. Let The Biz Doctor® show you how to fix them.

What if the thing you think makes you a good leader is actually what's keeping your business stuck?
Here's a hard truth: You might be the reason your team can't succeed without you.
In this eye-opening episode, Lauren shares a statistic so shocking it explains why even thriving businesses feel stuck in first gear. She reveals the hidden costs of what most leaders think is "being helpful" and why your best managers might actually be your biggest bottleneck.
But here's the twist; the solution isn't what most leadership experts tell you to do.
Lauren introduces a counterintuitive approach that transforms permission-seekers into decision-makers. She'll share the exact framework that's helping business owners finally step away from the daily chaos without everything falling apart and quietly transform how smart leaders build their teams.
If you've ever wondered why you're still the go-to answer to every question despite having capable people on your team, this episode will change how you lead forever.

In this episode Lauren recalls talking to one of her favorite humans, Tim Francis the other day and as two operational experts they were discussing how often operational health gets overlooked.
It is very sexy to have a million dollar business. But you know what is sexier? Having a highly profitable million dollar business with not only good cash flow, but a deep cushion of “free cash” in the bank.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, today’s show is something that is top of mind for me and sure to be a perspective shifter so let’s dive in.
Something that Lauren admits that irks her to no end are the smoke and mirrors 7-figure businesses and launches that look good on the face, but when you peel back the curtain the behind the scenes is a different story.
Some might say Lauren is on a mission to end this silly braggadocious way of thinking about business because, let's face it… there is nothing sexy or fun about living on the edge with your business and going through the doldrums or worse revenue roller coaster fretting about how to make payroll.
Which brings us back to the question… what if we built businesses with the end in mind? The end being an exit.
What if we built, ran, and scaled our businesses asking this simple question “would I buy my business?”
It's a good question, huh?
Personally, we love the question because it forces us to take off the emotional glasses we normally view our businesses through and instead makes it objective, and dare we say vulnerable.
Apples to apples. When you look at the team you have, the business's operational vitals, your profitability and balance sheet, and the kicker - YOU … if you were looking to buy a business, would you buy yours and pay a top multiple?

Clawing your way back or white nucking… two sides of the same coin … both having an underlying current of control.
Lauren talks about the time where she saw this happen in one of her clients. It was like his body was possessed by another.
He went from being really excited to get out of the trenches and focus on what we call his “Big 3” - you know the three things that, not only were they his unique abilities, but they were things he really enjoyed in the business - to suddenly trying to stick his fingers in every part of the proverbial pie.
Suddenly the team and business were thrown into chaos and whack-a-moling again after months of smooth sailing…
So why did this happen? Well that my friend is exactly what we are going to talk about on today’s episode.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, with your host Lauren Goldstein. Today we’re am going to share with you the three things Lauren sees standing in the way of most business owners having the true entrepreneurial freedom that comes with getting out from under your business and out of the weeds.
Key takeaways:
* Are you a 'seagull leader'
* Lack of trust, in yourself and your team
* Not being clear about what YOU actually want?

Sometimes when we think “business owner” often only one ”type” comes to mind, the business owner who leads the company as president or CEO, but today we’ll talk about what Lauren has discovered over the course of the past 12 years in her business consulting - that there are actually THREE types of business owners!
And knowing the difference between them - and more importantly what type of business owner you want to be can have an exponentially large impact on your success - and the success of your business and team. And if you don’t have that clarity it can also sink your business and team so let’s dig into this episode shall we?

We’ve all been there, you did your best in hiring, said yes to someone, only for it to turn into a hindenburg situation.
The truth is because we are dealing with humans and not robots (sorry Elon) there are variables with hiring that try as we might still make it a bit of a moving target, but fear not, today I am going to dive into the real cost of a bad hire and more importantly how you can reduce these costs and make your next hire your best hire.
We're talking about a hot topic I see a lot in my clients and fellow business owners struggle with which is shifting from reactive to proactive hiring so that they can reduce the cost and mitigate the risk of a “bad hire”. Key takeaways:
* First, the biggest cost I see that we don’t think about is YOUR time and the team's time.
* So here are TWO things that you can do with the next hire that will DRASTICALLY save you time
* The third thing that will save you not only time AND money is this: Proactive hiring.
* I also share a bit about how to be an effective interviewer and how to objectively decide between candidates.

Have you ever had a symptom and found yourself down the rabbit hole of WebMD researching survival rates of meningiomas - instead of realizing you probably just have a migraine from staring at your computer all day? Or suddenly you have gangrene instead of a bone bruise from stubbing your toe? Well that is exactly what I am going to talk about in this weeks episode, the danger of self-diagnosing your own business
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, I'm your host Lauren Goldstein.
Today I'm going to talk about something I see far too often go awry, self-diagnosing your own business.
If you've ever found yourself in one of these information wormholes trying to solve a team or operational challenge only to end up more overwhelmed then when you started, then fear not, I got you!
Today I'm going to give you three ways to diagnose your business better if you don't have yours truly, The Biz Doctor on speed dial.
Why is this skill so important? Because, if you don't find the root cause of what is ailing your business you are going to be not only plaything whack-a-mole with your business for the foreseeable future, but chances are you are going to flush down the toilet an enormous amount of money, time, and people trying to treat the “wrong thing.”

The number one reason why businesses fail is they run out of cash. One study showed that 82% of companies that fail do so because of cash flow problems.
Here’s the really surprising figure…. Only 40% of businesses are profitable - while 30% are actually continually LOSING MONEY!
Those figures are WILD - especially given how hard us business owners work, which is exactly why we’re so excited for today’s episode.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor podcast, join your host Lauren Goldstein and guest Jose Palomino - today we are going to dive into the wild ride of revenue.
Make sure you listen to the end because Jose is going to share some very impactful advice on How to Break Through Revenue Plateaus
Key takeaways:* Bust a myth: Why Hiring More Salespeople Doesn't Turn Into More Sales and Growth v scaling (yes there is a BIG difference)

When it comes to an employer/employee relationship, I believe there is really only one thing that can’t be overcome, and that is resentment.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor podcast, with your host, Lauren Goldstein, we’ll talk about a feeling and emotion that has been on a lot of lips lately and that is resentment.
Lauren says “I will go to my grave saying resentment is one that once it creeps in, that employee HAS to go. This is an emotion that, once infected, is almost impossible to eradicate, in fact, it is the kiss of death in my opinion.”
It seems like it is something that’s talked about more and more by employees and employers, so we’ll take some time today and really dive into what it is, where it comes from, and what to do about it if it is infecting someone on your team.
Key takeaways:
* First, outside of pink eye, this is the most contagious disease in the workplace, this toxicity is sneaky, consuming, and toxic.
* Second, rarely if ever can someone become UN resentful once they have crossed that chasm.
* Last but not least, resentment can be the gateway to self and subconscious sabotage ... subconscious or conscious thoughts of “this will show them” will be illuminated in their behavior if you start to pay attention.

Do you have someone in your team who is a rockstar and you keep going back and forth on if you should promote them to a leadership position or not?
Weighing the pros and cons while also secretly worrying that you might be promoting a high-performing team member to their detriment?
Well, you aren’t alone and this is the very subject. We’re going to dive into it today.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor Podcast, with your host Lauren Goldstein.
Today we’ll talk about how you can internally promote someone the right way to ensure more success, team harmony, and effectiveness.
Key takeaways:
* This is the three-part question you ask anyone before I even consider promoting them into leadership. Spoiler, if they answer no to any part, they get to stay where they are for the time being.
* Don’t make their job security a factor if they say no. Allow them to accept or reject the promotion without fear.
* Have them go through a set interview process, similar to if they were an outside applicant to make sure they really are the one for the role.

Did you know that over 80% of business owners don’t have a plan for when they exit their business and 98% don’t even know the value of their business?
Here’s the real kicker though, EVERYBODY, and that means even you listening, exits their business at some point; it just may not be on your terms…. Some exit on purpose and some exit because of the 5 Ds: death, disability, divorce, distress, or disagreement.
Welcome back to The Biz Doctor podcast, and join your host Lauren Goldstein and guest Sarah Goodman to help make sure that you and your business are not part of those statistics and have a fighting chance to truly make an impact and meaningful exit when you want to.
Key takeaways:
* Exit Planning - Every owner will exit, but very few have an exit plan.
* Exit Readiness - Those that plan have greater odds of success and better outcomes.
* M&A Overview - To achieve best outcomes, the process can take 1-3 years, and includes some tax and financial planning. You can't start too early, but you can start too late.

In today's episode of The Biz Doctor, Lauren Goldstein puts her cognitive neuroscience and NLP hat on to give you some of the most effective interview questions to help you pick and hire the right candidate.
Yes, that’s right, cognitive neuroscience and NLP … for those of you that don’t know her credentials, her degree is in cognitive neuroscience - there are few things that excite Lauren more than the inner workings of how we think, act, and behave - and to that point she is also a board certified NLP practitioner.
There are so many aspects to our mind that either support where we are going or hinder where we want to go - and if you are a business owner/entrepreneur/CEO you know that 90% of the game is between your ears.
So a large portion of her advisory work with business owners like you is getting their brain to stop being a business blocker and instead a partner which is especially helpful when you leverage neuroscience and NLP in your team and hiring to help you choose the best candidate for the job.
Lauren breaks it into three categories and gives you two of her favorite questions to ask them so you can get to know them more than just surface deep like most interview questions.
Specifically, Lauren dives into:
* How candidates think and process information
* The questions that tell us where their motivation comes from which is another way to tell a player from a worker bee
* The questions that will help you peel back the top layer to see how they ‘play team’ and if they will play well with others
