If you thought the Royals were a disappointment this season, you should see the White Sox. And the Royals may end up having a connection to that, because our good friend Dayton Moore might be moving there now. This might not sound like a big deal, but given the timeline of that team and how the Royals have already discussed trading Salvy before, it only makes it more likely that he won't be with the team in the very near future. The Royals attend to the usual affairs in Chicago, losing two of three to the Cubbies--at least, usual affairs as of late because this team is actually looking pretty good for a losing team. I love irony! One big reason for this is the emergence of some dude named Coke Ragans or something who has decided to just pitch better and throw 98 MPH heat about a hundred six times. Who's that amazing, young team with a 6-game winning streak? That's right, it's the 2023 Kansas City Royals! After putting up a competent series against the Twins, these Royals have utterly bullied the New York Mets into submission, almost putting up two shutouts in a row. ...Oh, and a lot of trades happened --sorry, I just got so excited to talk about the HOTTEST TEAM IN BASEBALL. Also, Bobby Witt Jr. is the greatest player ever and Maikel Garcia will eventually put up the MLB record for most career sac flies. I'm pretty much out of things to say at this point. The Royals are dive bombing towards a 116-loss season or something stupid like that, and as much as I want to believe in the talent of this roster, there have been no signs of them being capable of digging themselves out of that fate. The Royals continue to play terribly and lose terribly; when we say "it can't get any worse" it has felt like a technicality in the past. Right now, barring injuries, it truly cannot get any worse. The Royals lost some games (WOW! SHOCKER!!) to the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend, but these games have come with some good things. Kris Bubic pitched one of his best games of the year and several Royals batters had multiple multi-hit games, leading to several strong finishes to this otherwise disastrous season. Guys, did you know that the Royals pitching is bad? Wow. If only I was told about this by literally every media outlet in existence including this one. . . . . . OK this sounds mean-spirited towards those guys even though they're doing the Lord's work. I just mean to say The Athletic put out a scathing article on how truly horrible the Royals pitching development is in 2022 and it's both satisfying and terrifying to know that it's not new information if you've been paying attention. But it comes from more deep-rooted sources than your average fan-made podcast, which makes it particularly eye-opening. For the Royals faithful, it's another day of worry, of panicking in slow-motion as we wonder if this team will ever be okay.

Yep, since becoming a free agent after 2017, Hos has never stepped into Kauffman Stadium again until now. KC fans gave him a warm welcome, which he fully deserves, and that was only some of the good that happened in that game. After a few slow games, the Royals bats came to life to defeat the Boston Red Sox 7-3, also thanks to some decent pitching by Kris Bubic.

This is an episode I really did not want to do, which is kind of why I've been away for a little bit. I didn't want to have to rant about Ryan O'Hearn for the 300th time in my life, I've already spewed my opinions on this organization's commitment to play everywhere on the internet, but now that I have a podcast it too has been exposed to the Ryan O'demic. But that's not the only thing concerning me with the Royals, today I'm going to air it all out and express my confusion and frustration as to what this team is doing in such a frustrating season, while offering solutions as to what can be done to make things right so that everything can (hopefully) get back on track.
Oh hey, did you enjoy Tuesday's game? Well, TOO BAD! We're back to terrible starting pitching and non-existent offense! WOOOOOOOO! Kris Bubic melted down for the third or fourth or idk I lost counteth time this season, leading to an immediately disappointing game that probably made everyone in attendance regret buying a $20 parking pass. OK, I'm being like really mean about this, but it's not like there's a whole lot to talk about today. Hopefully reinforcements continue to arrive to Kansas City to get the season back on track.
The Royals let the kids play for a change, and it had an immediate, immense payoff. Edward Olivares slaps four hits around the field and Bobby Witt Jr. golfs his first home run of the year. They and MJ Melendez in his MLB debut contribute to a big offensive outburst from the Royals, one that has been desperately needed for this struggling team.

After another low-scoring game, it's clear what kind of team the Kansas City Royals are in 2022: a team that doesn't score many runs, but prevents runs from scoring thanks to an invincible defense and a shutdown bullpen, both of which have already been shown, statistically, that they are among the best in MLB. The Royals have fully recovered from their 5-game losing streak by winning three straight, evening out their record to a perfectly balanced .500 after ten games, which is not a bad sight to see at all.

The Royals have lost their fifth straight game, thanks to yet another low-scoring offense. Brad Keller gets an undeserved loss as he continues his great start, but it's besides the point today. It's time to talk about Bobby Witt Jr. and his lack of success at the Major League level, and it's time to discuss what can and should be done about it.

The Royals lose a low-scoring game at home to a Tigers team that will probably end up being better than you think, but that's for another time. Today, we discuss the problems this Royals team is having right now and how it could possibly, hopefully change as we try to break out of a four-game losing streak.
Today's post-game recap takes us through Daniel Lynch's first start of the game, which on paper looks like another disaster from the 2018 draft class. However, I look at it closely and find some things to be happy with. Maybe it's not so bad after all? Also, we get to rant about Ryan O'Hearn again, because who doesn't love to watch pinch-hit appearances from Ryan O'Hearn? At least Salvy is getting back on track.

The Royals lose a high-scoring game, but at least it's a little more even this time. There's a lot to not love about this game, but I do my best to highlight the good parts, or even the not-so-bad things, such as our invincible defense that's already saved a ton of runs, and Andrew Benintendi's lava hot start. Unfortunately, Beni's series is less of a talking point than the supernova start of Steven Kwan, who is far and away the best player in MLB after four games, and all I can say is good luck to whoever has to deal with him next because he made my weekend very not fun.

Episode 1 of hopefully just 1 in the Fire Cal Eldred Series. The Royals repeat their traumatic struggles through 2021 by letting every opposing batter under the midwestern sun hit and score, leading to what is an early contender for worst game of the season. The Royals' defense was nigh invincible today, and that went hand-in-hand with the strike-efficient pitching from the staff, most notably from Brad Keller who is in desperate need of a comeback.
