The eternal destination God has in store for you is not a disembodied "heaven", but a resurrected life on a transformed physical earth! In this concluding episode of our Isaiah series, Paul describes how, as a believer in Jesus, you are an inheritor of a new heaven AND a new earth. This does not make what you do now, in this world, irrelevant. In fact, it matters even more - because your "labour in the Lord" will carry through into God's wonderful new creation!

This is the first of a two-part conclusion to our Isaiah series. In the closing chapters of Isaiah, we find God's "Endgame" - a dramatic foretelling of the final victory of God over evil and the establishment of his kingdom. Isaiah expected this to happen in one single great event, but the unexpected "twist" was that the kingdom, which burst into the world through the cross and resurrection of Jesus, will only be finally consummated when Jesus returns. Meanwhile, you live in an "unfinished story" in the overlap of two "ages". Victory is assured, but God is using the interim to shape you and to use you to help implement the victory of his cross in lives and communities, whilst awaiting the triumphant and decisive return of Christ when he will sweep away the old age for ever.

In Isaiah chapter 62, God promises his beleaguered people that he will give them a new name when he brings them back from exile. The name he calls them describes his love for them and the delight he takes in them. As a believer in Jesus, rescued from the "exile" caused by sin, you too are given a new name and a new identity as someone God loves, cares for and delights in.

God wants you to "think his thoughts after him", to allow your mind to be governed by the Holy Spirit, rather than by the old "flesh" nature. In this teaching, Paul outlines practical ways to train your mind to align with God's thought patterns, resulting in healthy and wise living, together with emotional stability.

Special guest, Tony Martin from Grace Church in Glastonbury, encourages us to allow God to strengthen us in his grace, love and hope, even as we undergo trials of many kinds (Romans 5:1-5 and Romans 15:13). He then passes on a prophetic interpretation of Leviticus 26, which he received over 25 years ago when moving from Loughborough to Glastonbury to lead a church - "sowing back" into Loughborough a word which has sustained him over the years.

God is our "homeland". We have been released from the "exile" of sin, and now are to dwell each day in him. Isaiah chapters 56 to 60 describe how the people of Israel were to live, once released from exile, and we too can learn from this. We are to be "lowly"; we are to be "restorers of streets to live in"; and we are to "live from God's Word". As a result, the church will "arise and shine" to show the world God's glorious plan for his creation.

The warmth of God's welcome, expressed in Isaiah chapter 55, is unsurpassed in the Bible, even in the New Testament. The work of the Suffering Servant in chapter 53 results in a free invitation for all - to partake in the richness of God's abundance, the refreshing of his very presence. Listen, as God invites you to eat and drink spiritual food and water, and urges you to pass on the same invitation to others!

Isaiah chapter 53 is sometimes known as "the gospel according to Isaiah". In this majestic passage, we see God's "Suffering Servant" taking on the sins - and the punishment - of many peoples, in order to make them clean. Be inspired, as you listen to this poetic description of the most amazing exchange ever made, written hundreds of years before the events it describes, but exhibiting divine accuracy and foresight in what it both predicts and celebrates.

If you are a "born-again Christian" then you were born into a war - not against human beings, but against dark spiritual powers. It is a war that Jesus has already won at the cross, but there are still battles to fight before it's all finally over. The enemy will attack anyone who sets out to live for God's kingdom, but God has given us the means to defend ourselves - the "full armour of God" (Ephesians 6). Listen as Paul describes this armour, what it is for, and how to use it.

Why is it that, very often, there is a long delay between when we first sense the call of God on our lives and when we start to see God use us significantly within that call? Many people criticise or talk down "church" - including Christians, sometimes. But the church is destined to be the greatest and most significant entity the world has ever seen, apart from Jesus himself. Whatever the church's present limitations and stuttering progress, God's great plan has remained constant since the very beginning. And that plan is the church - the global phenomenon that is to carry the glory of God to every corner of the earth. It cannot be stopped, because God cannot be thwarted! And you are called to be part of it all!

It also reminds us how God can and does use imperfect people - like us - to achieve what he has planned. In Isaiah 44, the prophet mounts a sarcastic - and quite funny - attack on idols and those who make them. But what does making an "image" of God really mean, and why was it forbidden? The answers to these questions are as relevant to our day as they were to Isaiah's. The key question is: "What really determines our view of God?"

Whether we realise it or not, we will all, one day, have to give an account of ourselves to God. What does that mean? In this talk, Paul describes how the knowledge of our accountability to God for our actions and words is healthy for us in the here and now. A "servant" attitude in the life of Christians, as individuals and as the church together, is of vital importance. In contrast to a "consumer" attitude to church, the servant approach is part of a healthy church culture, because it actually finds its origin in the nature of God, who himself continually loves and serves his creation.
