Cannabis has been recreationally legal in Illinois for three years and medically legal for nearly a decade. Regardless of any flaws in Illinois' Cannabis Act, the state has sold billions of dollars worth of cannabis products in that time and raked in hundreds of millions in new tax dollars. But what of social equity? How equitable has legal cannabis been in Illinois? Representative La Shawn K. Ford of Illinois' 8th District says it has not been nearly equitable enough and he's leading a new state-run cannabis working group with the goal of moving the state into a more truly equitable place, so this "green rush" will actually benefit those who have been hit the hardest by the war on drugs. Rep. Ford already has some bills moving through Springfield on that front, plus a year of events is revealed in the News Joint Wrap!
