Ok, ok, don’t get your knickers in a bind, this is our favorite football “soccer” club in the world. They might not be the greatest on paper now or in a very long time but to us we will stick by them till the end. Recently we have fallen more in love with the club and it was partly because of the awesome Amazon Prime documentary done about their 2021-22 season. After watching the doc we were left wanting more and also very pumped for the upcoming season. Tony and PK share many traits and maybe some of this is due to the amount of content PK consumed from the late great chef and TV host. Either way one thing he did do for PK was show him that anything was possible. PK and BK love tattoos, as you can tell if you have ever met them or viewed any of their stuff online, but one tattoo's phrasing has never sat well with PK. Not that he thinks it is wrong if someone gets the popular phrase but he does tend to find it wrong in the definition of “making it”. During this episode the two discuss using “self-motivated” as a phrase when talking to people about your success instead of using “self-made”. This is by no means a shot at anyone wanting that specific “self-made” tattoo but is a mere observation into the fact that no one is technically self-made.

The last few years have been a wild ride but when PK decided to hang up the “touring with bands” portion of his life it was only because he had found a new passion that he was going to pursue. This did not stop old friends and employers from calling him to come back for ONE LAST tour or show. Now there have been a few close ones and even a few that really got PK thinking “maybe I should go back” but each time the thought gets stomped out because it would just derail the progress he has made on his new passion. Camille is one rad person who PK met through BK and was instantly interested in her story. She has not only been on tour but was a tour manager for one of the country's biggest female stars. She might be off the road nowadays but believe me when I say she is only getting more rad each day and with each new item she is custom designing. Her local brand is not so local and has even made its way into the hands of some greats like Bruce Springsteen. Camille doesn’t stop there either. She is constantly designing and making shirts, hats and even banners that are bringing some awesome PR to the small and up and coming Madison area. To say Torey loves music would be an understatement because this man lives music! He is not only one of the lucky people to get to do what they love, like play guitar on stage at places like the Grand Ole Opry, but he also gets to spend his time in an old school recording studio. Torey blew my mind a few times on this podcast with his love for music but what takes this interview to the next level is his knowledge of vintage Fender Guitars but more specifically Fender Telecasters made in the 50’s. Juan was born in a tiny town in Mexico and has lived a life that most could not even imagine. He took hard times as a kid and turned them into a swiss army knife of knowledge he uses today. When I say he uses this knowledge to this day you have to hear this episode to see what I mean! For example, he has a one inch catfish he is keeping alive in his homemade ecosystem fish tank thanks to his knowledge of electronics he gained out on tours! BK explains to him about her days of being a MASSHOLE, aka a resident of Massachusetts, and her days of working at Hard Rock and how Dunkin for sure helped her during some long days being a bartender. Then PK goes on an interesting talk about what it is like to work in TD Garden as a traveling roadie and what a typical roadie’s day is like… so when those days were long Dunkin helped him make it through. PK had some fun adventures on the road and worked with many different people including unions. He explains to everyone how unions, in some of the biggest venues in America, operate.
Toward the end of the talk BK asks PK a very serious question about if he misses the road and being a roadie but what comes from the question is quite surprising. PK goes into detail about how since leaving the road his mental health is better now than ever, even though he has a way harder day and life starting over from scratch in a new adventure, which is this podcast!

PK and BK dive right into the holidays and family and the stress that both of them can put on someone. The biggest discussion of the last few weeks was how we can give back to the listeners. How do we create a healthy lifestyle as adults? PK starts to break down four key things in his life that he battles with: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. There is a hard and bad cycle that you can get into at a young age but how can we as adults break those chains that hold us back some days? One of the biggest things that started PK on this journey was that he wants to be a healthy father at 40 (which is right around the corner for him). He didn't just want to be a fit dad but a dad that is healthy mentally, emotionally, and spiritually too. Part of that health journey means BK needs to also be on this kick. They want to show the viewers how trying to be 1% better each day can truly change your life's trajectory forever. Time management is a huge part of mental health. PK shows you there is a way but we, as a Backyards and Bevvies community, can help each other with positivity to keep going when you mess up. This challenge is for 1 year and is not a diet mentality but a true lifestyle change. How can we look up to these 1% athletes for inspiration but still find a healthy balance in life that allows you to be fit and strong in your body, mind, soul, and heart? PK and BK then discuss how is it that someone like Clark Griswald can be looked at as a “warrior in a garden”?

Troy has been in the music business for quite a long time but he did not start there. Troy goes into pretty cool detail about how he made the climb to success in the music industry as well as how he got into some pretty awesome adventures along the way!

Nate is a fellow roadie who I toured with on Justin Timberlake, Florida Georgia Line and many other high profile one time shows. We were able to travel around the world and experience all the food, drinking and culture that so many cities offer. In this episode we explore not only a few things from our times on the road but also Nate's new life being a farmer, ok, maybe not a full on farmer but he is learning how to grow his own veggies and live off the land. If you are interested in food-scaping Nate goes into some awesome details about how to grow veggies and grow veggies that go together in a great symbiosi. Nate and I dive into when the pandemic hit what took Nate into the new world of food growing and sparked his interest in living off the land. Tennessee is prime weather to grow most all style crops!
Nate brings one of PK’s favorite beers and is so happy to have it on the show as his first beer! The two of us reminisce about PK’s love of the West Alabama Ice House bar in Houston Texas. Most of the conversation finds ways to bring that feeling home to where you are, especially for people who travel always finding your favorite home away from home. Nate describes finding the one spot in a city that you go to and let loose after a long day or long bus ride as the “mowing the lawn of being on the road”.

Although we talk about some silly things in the beginning this episode also deals with true life emotions. For example, thinking you might have made it out of a situation ok only to discover many times that you still have a pretty long way to go to dig your way out of that hole. Many more hours need to be poured into changing and rewriting what might have looked easy but actually needs a few more edits. PK has a certain way of looking at situations nowadays that just a few years ago would have crushed him or taken him to a dark place. He helps paint you pictures with BK on how he tries to change his day by looking at life in a more open, honest and positive way now. This episode might be serious in the way PK talks about his struggles but he is always trying to use fun analogies to help listeners understand that though life is tough we can still go through it all with a smile and laugh. We shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously because that makes it hard to work on ourselves. One thing that really stands out in B&B, thanks to PK following a man named Gary Vaynerchuk(better known as Garyvee), is PK is truly seeing how gratitude in life not only helps him but those around him… and realizing that those around him may be having a much worse day.

PK and BK had a couple weeks of PK-only interviews but that did not mean life was not moving full steam ahead at home, which left PK in a weird state of happiness mixed right alongside some depression and anxiety. Two things most anyone breathing can relate to. Even if you rarely deal with these things there are for sure a few topics sprinkled inside that you might be able to relate to and who knows maybe even find a new way to help battle your anxiety or depression. Tom is not only one of the nicest people I have had the chance to tour with but he is a bourbon drinking, bass playing, father who also understands how to help people with their finances as a financial advisor. We dive into where Tom is from, where he got his start playing music, and some of his first jobs before we get into the nitty gritty of money and how he can be of service to you. Makahla is a huge lover of Halloween but when we developed the show this was one backyard we knew we had to go to! We were privileged to catch Makahla on a break from work to talk all things ranging from Halloween to her dance background to living in L.A. Some of the biggest shows that have ever been put on were some of PK’s first shows as a kid so when he got his first taste of the “Big Show” he was more interested in the men in black standing side stage than he was in the artists performing. PK reminisces about some of the shows in his life that really changed him. PK assumed BK had moved a handful of times in her life but was surprised to find the number is actually quite large. The number of times BK moved before she was 18 is more than most move in their entire lifetime. Come take a ride with the two as PK gets BK to open up about how these experiences shaped her from not only becoming more open but to understanding different cultures outside the small town she started the journey from.
