After much reflection, I’ve decided to conclude the podcast.
In this final episode, I share about entering a season of pause, simplifying my life, and creating more quiet space for clarity, creativity, and reflection. Over the years, this podcast has given me the opportunity to connect with incredible guests and listeners, and I am deeply grateful for every conversation and every message from those who felt inspired, encouraged, seen, or understood through this space.
Lately, I’ve realized that sometimes clarity does not come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from stepping back, slowing down, and making room for what might emerge next.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of this journey with me. Thank you for listening, for supporting the podcast over the years, and for allowing me to be part of your career and professional growth journey.

In this episode, I explore a reality many professionals are experiencing right now: choosing to stay in their current role during an uncertain job market. With hiring slowing and job transitions happening less frequently, more professionals are embracing what economists call a “no hire, no fire” labor market.
But staying doesn’t have to mean stagnating.
I walk you through how to make this season intentional and strategic. I explain the difference between strategic staying vs. fear-based staying, and share practical ways to grow, build skills, and prepare for future opportunities while remaining in your current role.
You’ll learn how to track your wins, identify energizing work, leverage your strengths, expand your network, and invest in professional development so that when the time comes to move, you do it with clarity and confidence not urgency or burnout.
This episode is a reminder that growth doesn’t always require a leap. Sometimes the most powerful move is preparing quietly and intentionally.

As I kick off Season 11 of the Liz Career Coaching Podcast, I’m inviting you to slow down and pause before rushing into new goals, plans, or decisions.
A new year often brings pressure to do more, achieve more, and figure everything out quickly. In this episode, I share why I believe clarity doesn’t come from pushing harder it comes from self-reflection and intentional pauses. I talk about how journaling helps me recognize when my goals start to feel fuzzy or when I’m chasing things without really understanding why.
I also share a personal and vulnerable story about stepping outside my comfort zone. It reminded me what it feels like to be a beginner again, to face fear and ego, and to choose growth anyway.
This episode is a gentle reminder to give yourself permission to try, even when you don’t feel ready.

Welcome to 2025! In this episode, I’m sharing personal reflections on how unexpected opportunities can shape our lives in powerful ways. While goals are important, I’ve realized that staying open to new possibilities often leads to the most meaningful growth.

I also share practical tips for embracing the unknown: reflect regularly, stay curious, build relationships, and say yes to new experiences, even when they feel a little scary.
This episode is all about holding onto your goals while keeping an open mind. Sometimes, the path forward isn’t linear, but those twists and turns can lead to something amazing.
Special thanks to Melinda Ramirez, founder of Tai Phoenix Consulting, for sponsoring this episode. She’s doing incredible work empowering leaders through arts-based leadership and emotional intelligence solutions—check her out on LinkedIn!

Today I wanted to have an open dialogue about what it is like to be a first generation college student specifically, the unique challenges faced by first-generation Latino college students. I am always proud to share that I am a first generation college graduate and while there were many challenges that I personally faced, it really shaped my career and the professional that I am today. My experiences and challenges are what fuels my purpose today and why I am passionate about the work that I do as a career coach.
Many Latino students may feel pressure when choosing majors and careers, especially when their families discourage certain paths that are seen as low-paying. I believe it is so important to have open conversations with family about career choices.
So today I have a very special guest that will join me on this discussion of how college students navigate the college process without family support to feeling the weight of financial pressures and the responsibility to provide for their families after graduation.
My guest today is Dr. Ochoa-Galindo a senior lecturer and the director of internships in applied psychology at UIC. She is an alumnus from UIC and has been working there for 5 years. She has over 15 years of teaching experience both at the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition, Dr. Ochoa-Galindo is a licensed mental health clinician with over 18 years of experience providing individual, family, and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults both in outpatient and inpatient settings. She has experience working with mental illness, behavioral disorders, domestic violence, sexual assault, acculturation stress, and trauma. In her spare time, she enjoys doing yoga, reading, and spending time with her family which includes her husband, 6-year-old twin daughters, 4 dogs, and 2 cats!

Welcome to the Liz Career Coaching podcast, my name is Liz Herrera and I am your host. This season I am focusing on reinventing you. We are holistic beings and we have so many things to consider as we evolve in our careers and aim to live a satisfying and fulfilling life. One very important aspect for most of us is financial stability, achieving financial freedom, and building generational wealth. This is such an important topic that we don’t necessarily talk about at the family dinner table or in school for that matter. We enter the professional world and figure it out as we go. However, time is of the essence and we need to talk about money and how to make it work for us. In my personal journey, I had the pleasure to meet a very patient financial professional that empowered me to see financial planning through a different light and I wanted to share that life changing resource with you today. So I thought it would be a great idea to invite none other than Richie Marrero, who is an expert in the financial planning space and currently serves as an Employee Benefits Consultant at 360 Benefits LLC.

It might be time for a check-in and self-reflection. I personally am in a space of self-reflection and thinking hard about what I want out of this year. However, setting an "ambitious" goal is not what I am chasing after this year - how about you?
If you are feeling the same way about your goal-setting journey, I invite you to consider starting small with the formation of new habits, maintaining the good habits and letting go of the bad ones.
I kicked-off my year with listening to the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for strategies and simple ways to form new habits and break bad ones. As a career coach, many of my conversations start with individuals disclosing how discouraged they are in their job search process or how they lack confidence to chase after that next role or career move. Sometimes it is that lack of confidence that keeps us stuck and stagnant and therefore we need to be self-aware so that we can take the necessary actions to find that self-confidence and move forward.
My guest today is Mira Parmar who is a Confidence and Leadership Coach and has seen and experienced first-hand the extra barriers and obstacles which women have to overcome to be able to prove themselves against their male counterparts and this has become a major driver for her current coaching work. One of the hard lessons and skills many of us learn late in our careers is self-advocacy. While we may encounter mentors along the way, many times we have to find it within ourselves to self-advocate. These instances occur when we are looking for a promotion, asking for a raise, negotiating our salary and knowing our value. In this episode, Julieta LaMalfa, CFO at Canela Media, shares her personal journey and story on how she found her voice for self-advocacy.
Julieta shares some of her childhood experiences growing up in The Back of the Yards, raised in a Spanish speaking household and recognizing the language barriers that affected her confidence as a first gen college student and as an early careerist in a consulting firm. Julieta shares the pivotal moments in her career where she gained the confidence to self-advocate and how she found her voice. She also shares how she has managed to build and leverage her network as a Latina and how a conversation at a networking event led to her to making a new career move and into the role of CFO at Canela Media.

Part of this is having an in-depth understanding of our strengths and what we contribute to our world of work and those that we serve. In this episode, I invite Linda Evans, strengths-based career coach, speaker, and writer who specializes in personal branding where we focus the conversation around using your strengths in establishing your personal brand.

You have to be comfortable telling your career story, this is essential in all of your professional marketing such as building your resume, preparing your cover letter, building your LinkedIn profile, preparing for a job interview, and when asking for a promotion or a raise.
But how can you sell your accomplishments without being "braggie"?. In this episode I talk about how it can be challenging for many job seekers to articulate their accomplishments because they want to be modest and not come across as arrogant. They end up downplaying their achievements which can lead to missing out on some great opportunities.
I share ways to reframe and how you can present yourself based on facts, proof, and tangible examples.
