Milwaukee Chi Alpha is a podcast that offers biblical encouragement geared toward college students in Milwaukee. If you are not a college student or in Milwaukee, this can still be a good listen for you. Sermons from Wednesday night Chi Alpha services and other content can be found here.
Catherine breaks down two passages, 2 Samuel 9:1-11 and Luke 15:11-20. She looks at God the Father in these two passages and His pursuit of us.
While the gospel includes us as individuals, Catherine explains it was intended to be lived out in community, not alone.
Catherine talks about Moses failing to obey the Lord and the consequences that follow. She focuses on Moses' response to missing out on the promised land.
Jeff talks about cravings. He explores Israel's desire for meat instead of manna and brings up the cravings we have today.
Daniel explores Israel's rebellion in the wilderness. He talks about how today, while we don't make idols in God's place, we do the same thing Israel did more often than we think.
Tradition says Moses gave the first five books of the Bible to the Israelites at Mount Sinai. This week, Catherine looks at the first message the Israelites would have heard from the book of Genesis while at Mount Sinai.
Caitlin helps us understand the Tabernacle and what it meant for the Israelites in ancient times. She also shows how it affects us today.
Rachel talks about Passover and its significance in the story of the Bible. She also talks about how for followers of Jesus, He is our Passover lamb.
Once a year we have our students run the show from start to finish for our Wednesday night service. Two students, Nick and Nina, brought the word in our student-led service! Nick talks about God's plan for us while Nina talks about how God's voice can be a whisper.
Catherine talks about the pain in God's promise. Abraham's decedents were promised great things by God, but were facing the fury of Pharo.
Catherine walks us through Abraham's life. She talks about their covenant, the promise God gave him, and how he and Sarah handled it.
Jeff explores the reason God didn't like Cain's offering. Was He just playing favorites? Can we trust a God who showed approval of one gift over another?
This semester we will explore the beginning of the Old Testament. In the first service of the semester Jeff and Catherine tag team and dive into the origins of humanity's disordered desires.
Rachel, Caitlin, and Daniel each speak on Advent. Rachel opens on Jesus' second coming, Caitlin talks about how He is with us now and Daniel finishes by looking back at Jesus' first coming.
Catherine closes out our series on 1 John. She talks about the last verse of the letter "Dear children, keep yourself from idols."
Jeff talks about different voices in our lives. He specifically tackles condemnation and how we should respond to it.
Catherine breaks down 1 John chapter three which looks back to the first sibling rivalry, Cain and Able. She guides us as we try to understand what John is saying through this ancient story.
Caitlin goes into the historical context of what forces were fighting for the loyalty and attention of the ancient Church. She also talks about what John said to do in response.
Catherine talks about love. She digs into what John says about it and how Jesus loves us.
Jeff progresses through the first chapter of 1 John and looks at God as light and trustworthy.
Catherine speaks on practicing contextualization. She helps us to understand the time and people of 1 John.
Jeff begins a new series on the book of 1 John. He dives into the first four verses of the letter and delves into Jesus' down to earth nature.
Catherine talks about Moses in Exodus chapter three and invites us to stop and notice Him and what He is doing.
Psalm 29 says to give God the glory due his name and then proceeds to describe him like a thunderstorm. What does this picture mean? As we continue our series on the Psalms, listen in to Pastor Catherine as she wrestles with the concept that God is in control and how that in turn leads us to see him rightly and ascribe him the glory due his name.
This week pastor Jeff begins a new series looking at the Psalms. These songs, poems and prayers are beautiful at times, but jarring at times and it can be difficult to know how to see these works as God's word for us. This week as we look at the introductory Psalms, Psalm 1 and 2, pastor Jeff asks the question, can we trust God as our King? We might like his blessings, but are we ok with his Kingship over our lives? Is he trustworthy? Tune in to see what Psalm 1 and 2 say about God and his way.
This week, pastor Jeff speaks on the difficulty of waiting. Especially as we are in Advent, we are reminded that waiting is central to what we believe. But why is it that God asks us to wait? And how do we do wait well? And what will happen when we do wait? Listen in as we reflect on Psalm 130 and its encouragement for us to wait on God with everything we have. And if you can, after the episode, find someone to discuss the closing questions about how we can learn to wait on God with attention and hope.
There is much to say on the topic of prayer. But what makes prayer successful? What truly is prayer at the very core? As we've been examining various attributes of God in this series, this week, pastor Catherine speaks on engaging God and experience him in his attributes through prayer. So make room as you listen to pause and open up to God in prayer.

This week, pastor Jeff looks at the holiness of God and how his holiness interacts with the world. In exodus, we get the picture that his holiness dangerous to us. Yet in Isaiah we see his holiness doing something profound. And still more, what happens when the holy one incarnate comes to earth as a human? Find out as we see what his holiness means for us.

This week, pastor Catherine tackles the idea of God being the creator. Why does this matter and what are the implications of God being a creator? And what kind of creator is he? Pastor Catherine looks at how God shows up in our every day lives and what real community centered on Jesus looks like. Join us as we look at the story of Moses and Elijah and how their encounters with God inform how we interact with God in the day to day of our lives.
For our last week in the series on the Three Anchors, Jeff speaks from 2 Corinthians 5.14-21 about this word used in the passage: Reconciliation. How does this word convey the goodness of God's heart toward all people? How do we join in Jesus' mission in the world? Listen in to hear how we see reconciliation meeting the needs of our world, and why we say, "Love Finds A Need and Meets It"

She speaks on its divine inspiration, its complexities, and its beauty. This is the first class of what we are calling XA Learning Hour: Questioning the Old Testament (QTOT). This episode will also help lay the foundation for all future QTOT teachings.
We all have questions about the Old Testament of the Bible. At Milwaukee Chi Alpha we want to take all of these questions and use them to get us closer to Jesus. This teaching series is designed to discuss commonly asked questions about the Old Testament (creation vs. science, women in the Old Testament and many more like those) and find the best answer to them. We believe seeking truth in our questions, will lead us back to the Truth, Jesus.
