The Path of IX - Walking With our Shadow: Recent Episodes

Marita One Who Catches Lightning

Ix — pronounced (eesh) — is the Mayan name for the nagual of Jaguar. The path of Ix is the sacred path of the jaguar people (my people).

Interwoven teachings thousands of years old passed down to me that are here to teach you a way to walk in balance with your heart, mind and essence. Rediscovering our humanity allows us to take our place as mother earth's children and creatures. By rediscovering our creatureness we can begin to allow our imagination and wildness to transform us as we remember who we truly are. This is the Path of Ix, the path of radical self love and living a life in ceremony where we are in balance with Mother Earth.

In a world where instant gratification often overshadows the slow and sacred process of spiritual growth, the notion of being an "Instant Shamman" challenges us to confront our desire for quick fixes and superficial understanding.

Today, step into the circle with me and Grandmother Láné Saán Moonwalker as we journey through the depths of indigenous wisdom and ancestral knowledge.

We explore:

  • Grandmother's personal journey through the deserts and her profound connection to the sacred beings of the land.
  • Experiences of transformation and awakening. Grandmother's reflections on deprogramming from colonization.
  • The concept of the "Instant Shaman" and the process of achieving spiritual growth through multiple levels.
  • The parallels between resistance from loved ones and life in the desert. Fostering a deep communion with divine energies amidst discomfort.
  • Embracing discomfort as a catalyst for self-discovery and radical self-love.

How can you be the medicine? How can you reject what the modern world has taught you and, instead, find what you need within yourself? Are you struggling to understand what this phrase even means or where to start? Then join me today for an exploration of this concept of medicine. Together, we’ll consider how our modern society is attempting to extract it without acknowledgement and how you can start taking steps to be your own medicine as you begin your journey to radical self-love, acceptance, and healing. I invite you to pause, reconnect, and do the work to find your truth. Let’s get started.

I’m exploring:

  • How the modern world’s approach to finding medicine is missing the point and can lead to greater harm
  • The perspective of an Indigenous woman with a special reading
  • Colonization as a part of the human condition: Why must one conquer? Can there be another way?
  • How to let go of martyrdom as a form of generosity and goodness and, instead, be true to who you are, as you are
  • Reciprocity with Mother Nature: Are you taking without giving back?
  • Breath work to detach from trying to fix yourself or others, but instead learning about self as you begin your healing journey
  • And more

The journey to healing can be a long one and for those called onto The Medicine Path, those asked to weave their knowledge and experiences to help others, it can be easy to prioritize filling other's cups before your own. This week I’m bringing back one of my most popular episodes with a guest that shows us that the healing journey is one that never ends; one that asks to remain students of life and become our own medicine first. In today's episode, I welcome to the circle healer, badass and amazing human being Ash Bell. Ash is a healer from Melbourne Australia with experience in Tibetan Sound Healing, Reiki, and facilitating Cacao Ceremonies. With a background in Social Work, Ash weaves together these different modalities in order to support people to heal, find their light, lift the soul and stay grounded. Join us for today's episode where Ash shares more about her creation story, how her journey in self healing lead her to helping others, her relationship with ceremonial Cacao, and what being a student in a circle means.

We're exploring:

  • Ash's creation story (and how being a cancer survivor has changed her life and practices)
  • How her personal healing journey put her on the path to help heal others (and why it's important for healers to fill their cups first)
  • The one practice that has helped her deepen her practices
  • Ways that Ash is learning to navigate being a star being while having a human experience
  • The partnership between Cacao and Sound Healing
  • What is means to be a student in a circle
  • And so much more!

Things are always going to be changing. It’s ok to grieve and let go. But you can choose what to do with your grief. Will you choose to pour more love into it? To create something even more beautiful than you can imagine? That’s the journey that our guest has chosen to take.

Today we welcome Vesna Vavladellis back to the circle to have a conversation around what it means to be trained in an indigenous way, what it means to be in a circle and to learn and have access to that, and to explore grief and how it can go hand in hand with love.

In this episode we’re exploring:

  • The different kind of work required to lead indigenous circles
  • What first brought Vesna to my circles
  • The different way we look at breath in indigenous circles
  • The Path of IX’s new ceremony which Vesna is a ceremonialist in, From Grief to Freedom, and her passage with grief
  • What it looks like to walk through ancestral grief and how it’s shown up in Vesna’s life
  • Her journey of 40 days of mourning
  • How food has helped Vesna on this journey
  • What happens when you take a leap into the unknown
  • And so much more

How do you breathe? It happens without intention, direction, or focus—but this simple, innate action connects us beyond our biology. Each breath is a miracle, and if you seek wholeness, I have a technique for you to try. In this episode, I’m sharing the story of breath as a practice & connection, how to invite cohesiveness into all of your parts, and a guided meditation of The 3 Breaths for your personal practice.

I’m exploring:

  • Why some groups believe in the power of each single breath
  • How humans and societies have devolved away from the 1 breath
  • A historical context for how the meaning of the soul has evolved (and why its separation was KEY for colonization)
  • Why I teach The 3 Breaths (and why other practitioners love it, too!)
  • The difference between soul and essence
  • And much more!

As we change, grow and evolve, as we walk our medicine path we often encounter the waters of our trauma and grief. Some of these wounds run deep and need more time to heal but we sometimes cannot see the layers necessary for healing. Sometimes we speak from what we think is a fixed wound but what is underneath is still building up. The lesson here is that life is truly a journey of stages and therefore things take time. Recovering from a wound takes time.

Today's plática is one that had been brewing for over six months. The energía that we invite to sit with us in the circle today has many names: awakening, trauma, grief but today we will simply call it a wound.

Join me as we revisit this conversation where we talk about the work necessary to identify and heal our wounds. Tune in as I share a technique woven together in indigenous practice to help you: peel back the layers necessary for healing, stop taking on other people's waters and find a path to YOUR healing.

I'm sharing:

  • Why it's important to accept the stages of trauma and grief
  • The importance of recognizing that others may be on a different path in their healing journey
  • An indigenous diagnostic tool to help you look at your trauma and grief (even when it is overwhelming)
  • How to use this tool to identify the layers of your wound (and how this can help you focus on your own healing first)
  • Ways that we can learn to approach ourselves and others with mercy, compassion and grace as we walk our healing paths.
  • A grounding meditation to help you stop carrying other people's wounds and find the path to your OWN healing

Even for those of us who grew up in indigenous circles, there is always a pivotal point when we really step into our medicine. And in today’s episode, I’m bringing you a conversation that I had—being interviewed on The Healing Adventures of Luna podcast—where I share mine.

In this conversation with my good friend Maritza Luna, author of Fairy Medicine Oracle, we explore this pivotal point for me and how I became The One Who Catches Lightning, vision quests, cacao, and our run ins with Bigfoot.

Miracles happen in co-creation. They happen when people come from different ways of being and find a way to build again; to understand and learn from each other. And today I invite you to join me in Circle for an incredible conversation about this idea with Dr. Hilary Booker, a multi-disciplinary artist, scientist, researcher, teacher, and multi-genre writer as well as a holistic wellness coach who specializes in biocultural diversity, decolonization, traditional/indigenous ecological knowledge and healing systems, and so much more.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • Dr. Hilary’s amazing story around her journey of decolonization (that started in a prison in the Caribbean!)
  • The first time she really questioned her positionality in the world
  • Marita and Dr. Hilary exploring the subtleties and complexities of decolonization and colonialism
  • Why healing, spiritual, and decolonization journeys aren’t actually individual
  • One of the primary things keeping many people from making the shift from a human-centric way of being to a nature-centric one
  • Dr. Hilary’s favorite concepts from Caribbean literature
  • Why the idea of “the melting pot” isn’t it (and what real diversity actually looks like)

As we enter into Circle today, I invite you to join me in this conversation with a phenomenal astrologer and dreamwalker, Ananda Sykes. Ananda is a mystic, metaphysician, astrologer, dreamwalker, folk witch, guide, and mentor with a unique comedic warmth. Her love of myth, folklore, ancient history, and arcane knowledge and her awareness of the Otherworlds began in early childhood as she befriended trees, sky, fire, and the spirits that surrounded her in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. And today we’ll consider the lessons the planets can teach us and how to come back home to yourself.

In this episode, we explore:

  • The lessons the planets can teach us
  • What hidden wisdom Ananda can find in astrological charts
  • Recognizing planets as beings
  • The pendulum swing of responsibility in relationship
  • Reconnecting to the “savage” inside of yourself
  • Mayan vs Western astrology and cosmology
  • Ananda’s experience being raised with both New Age and indigenous ways of spirituality
  • And more!

Where do you come from? If someone asks you this question, you probably answer with a city. But the indigenous mindset around this question is quite different, and today I want to invite you into a conversation around this way of thinking.

Because the way indigenous people tend to relate to themselves—particularly when sharing where they come from— is to answer with what body of water, what mountain, what volcano, or what tree is around them. Not the city.

Are you ready to explore your own “I am” consciousness?

In this episode I’m exploring:

  • How our family trees differ, as indigenous people
  • The importance of poetry in telling the story of place and people
  • The revolution of land and the largest reclamation that can happen

How do you meet life, with all its ebbs and flows? Are you constantly striving to master new things, but full of stress and feeling broken by the challenges that inevitably come your way?

What if you approached life with a different lens instead? One of wisdom, of learning, and of wonder, where you could develop a good root system? How then would you be affected by the winds of life?

In today’s episode, I’m bringing back one of our most popular episodes where I take inspiration from the powerful winds around me to welcome you into another opportunity to sit in the circle together to explore these lessons. Join me as we explore the importance of having a strong root system in your life, crack open and shift the definition of mastery, and invite you to consider a new way of approaching learning, wisdom, and wonder.

I’m sharing:

  • A powerful lesson from my youth that has stuck with me to this day
  • What you’re missing if you focus always on mastery in life (and what to be careful of when looking to master something)
  • The varying definitions of mastery from different cultures, nations, and people and a new way I invite you to look at it
  • A meditation to help you step into a different way of being that will bring you less stress and more freedom

I find it curious that in conversations we are always trying to find common ground to relate. But why do we feel that we need to be relatable in order to be valued? In today’s episode I invite you to explore this with me as we challenge the sameness mindset that is so prevalent in dominant society.

Let us celebrate the beauty of our differences and discover the profound wisdom and growth that lie beyond dominant culture, instead of fearing it. Today I invite you to find the UNcommon ground around you and to embrace the richness it offers to our lives.

I’m exploring:

  • The sameness mindset and its origins
  • This pattern I see when people from dominant society come into indigenous circles
  • Shifting your perspective around differences
  • The societal pressure to find common ground for validation and acceptance

Circle holds everything. It holds differences of opinion and differences of definitions. It holds otherness. But it won’t—and isn’t meant to—save you.

When (generally white) people come to these indigenous circles, in my experience they are wanting to be saved and hoping to be safe. But what are they hoping to be saved from? And what does hope really mean?

Join me in today’s episode as I bring to this circle some interesting conversations that I've had over the past week around this idea to break down what’s REALLY underneath the desire to find safety in indigenous circles, why people look for saviors, and what it ACTUALLY means to be in Circle.

I’m exploring:

  • The misguided “great white hope”
  • A lesson from the Lakota around hope that might surprise you
  • What saving really means
  • The #1 thing that I hear people wanting to be saved from
  • What indigenous circles really are and are not
  • The things you will need to redefine as you enter indigenous circles
  • Why you see indigenous circles go to plant and animal kingdoms for inspiration and for healing
  • And a silent meditation to help you acknowledge and face yourself—including the parts that you’ve been hiding

How many times have you heard someone say they’re giving something 110%? How many times have you tried to do that yourself? This is the story about our capacity that we are taught by the Western world; that you must give everything you have—and more—to keep up. But if you’re giving your 110% to everything, what do you really have left?

Do you want to continue living like you are; exhausted, tired, and overwhelmed? If you’re ready to experience life differently, I invite you to join me in this episode as I invite you into Circle to really look at where you’re at in the present moment and tap into your TRUE capacity.

I’m exploring:

  • The lessons farming can teach us about capacity
  • Ik and a new beautiful breath practice we are launching soon in Australia
  • What happens when we measure and work from our potential capacity
  • A meditation exercise to acknowledge and invite 3 different parts of yourself; evaluating and honoring each part’s capacity separately

The “lone wolf” is often idealized as representing an independent, a free spirit, or a nonconformist. But that is not the lesson that wolves teach us, and it’s counterintuitive to many First Nation teachings. In this episode, I invite you to stay curious and playful as we explore this myth, and learn more about what it REALLY means to be a lone wolf.

I’m sharing:

  • The American love affair with the lone wolf, and why its westernized interpretation is missing the mark
  • How this idea of the lone wolf has been used and how I use this myth instead
  • My own experience literally getting to be a part of a wolf pack and the lessons that experience taught me
  • Why the lone wolf shouldn’t be idealized or be a badge of honor
  • A meditation to help us open our hearts to more possibilities to accept ourselves and understand ourselves a little bit more

Many people are fascinated by their ancestry. This concept of ancestry is often defined by bloodlines and can be an opportunity to heal and connect with those that came before us. Many times, people want ancestry because they want to feel like they belong. But what if there was a less human centric way to approach our ancestry? A way to connect beyond the close familial stories that we do or do not have? What if we were to consider the elements as our ancestors? In today's episode I welcome into the circle an opportunity to acknowledge our elemental heritage, to connect with our nature, to heal and evolve. Join me for today's plática where I share more about how to connect with the elements as your ancestors so that you can connect to a greater sense of belonging, heal all these human centric stories and connect with the nature outside of you.

I'm exploring:

  • What it means to connect with the elements as your ancestors
  • Why the energy of these elements allows us connect with our ancestors, their traditions and practices
  • How we can learn to connect to the nature inside of us and the nature around us (and what this can teach us about family)
  • Ways that we can access feelings of belonging and our stories of creation through our elemental heritage
  • A nourishing meditation to unite us with our stories and our nature at an elemental level and help us heal

Today I invite you into the circle as we ask it to hold us in this beautiful, intriguing conversation on overcoming, seeking “normal”, and beginnings.

But what is the REAL obstacle humans are always overcoming, and what are we losing in the process? Join me for today’s episode as I unpack this question.

I’m exploring:

  • Why the telling and retelling of a creation story is so important
  • The many different ideas of what “normalize” means
  • How the definition of overcoming has shifted (and what the unfortunate current Western definition REALLY means)
  • What nature reminds us of daily
  • A short meditation to synthesize this idea

Humans are dying—both physically and emotionally—because of the state our planet and culture is in at this moment. You probably know this, and feel that change needs to happen. Many people want to heal.

But do they REALLY want change? Will we have the courage to take advantage of the beautiful opportunity we have before us?

In this episode I’m exploring:

  • One of the greatest things that keeps us from change
  • A reminder that lifestyle changes don’t have to be drastic to be effective (even small steps add up!)
  • One of the huge differences between Western culture and Indigenous culture you notice as you enter into this way of beingness
  • The reason people don’t want to change
  • What’s at stake for the current program and way of being in Western culture to survive
  • The beautiful moment of remembering we are in right now
  • A small meditation to acknowledge the undiscovered realms inside of us

It may sound obvious to say it, but: things. take. time. We know this, but at the same time our average attention span is now just 7-8 seconds. (Even shorter than that of a goldfish!) We’re used to having things at our fingertips. We want things right now. So should we really be surprised that so many of us are missing out on the depth we crave?

Today, I invite you to join me as we redefine what circleness means and reflect on how even Circle understands that things don’t happen instantly. What are we forgoing in exchange for the instant gratification most of us now expect?

I’m exploring:

  • What makes delayed or deferred gratification so difficult
  • Why people are often frustrated when coming to indigenous circles for the first time
  • The things that have contributed to this culture of instant gratification
  • Two silent meditations to demonstrate how short the human attention span has become

You’re probably familiar with the feeling of being overwhelmed. But what would happen if you actually invited the energy of overwhelm to speak to you and to be a mirror for where it shows up in your life?

Join me for today’s episode as I explore the subject, the emotion, and the verb of overwhelm. I’m breaking down where I’ve seen overwhelm show up in society and how to witness where overwhelm shows up in your life so that you can reframe it and bring in the energia of circle.

  • The energia of overwhelm: what it is and how it REALLY is being used in life
  • What I learned when sat down with my competitiveness and named it
  • ONE thing you need to do if you are trying to walk a new path or learn a new way
  • Why acknowledging our overwhelm matters and where it can help us
  • The sacred pause: what it is and why it’s so important

How many stories did you grow up with that literally were based on the ending of this earth?

How many TV shows and movies have you watched where humans are searching for a new planet where they can begin again because Earth was no longer habitable?

Humans have been trying to distance themselves from nature for a very long time.

Today’s podcast is an invitation to get really curious about the idea of beginning again. An invitation to return to storytelling; to get reconnected to mythology. Because I believe it’s time we reconnect to the possibility that we are all creatures on this planet.

I’m exploring:

  • What we’ve lost as society has become more “civilized”
  • The effects of humans being separated from nature
  • Why I don’t find the climate collapse we find ourselves in surprising
  • The imagery of mythology and why it’s so important in this reconnecting
  • How what was taken away from the original people of the Americas upon colonization was so much more than their land
  • What’s possible if we connect to our creatureness again
  • The lesson that we as a society have forgotten and how to remember
  • A 2-part meditation to help you reconnect with nature and your creatureness

Today, I bring you a conversation where I was interviewed on The Sanctuary, Shamanic Healing Center hosted by Angell Deer, where we went into a deep dive into some of the essence of the medicine path. Beyond and behind the visible or the heart-lifting steps, there are many steps that are much more difficult, heartbreaking, challenging, and humbling.

From the deep daily connection to land, the sacred ancient practice of planting seeds, to the radical responsibility and vulnerability, we can find in this exploration we took together some immense and invaluable nuggets of wisdom.

In this episode, we allowed ourselves the space to become the medicine, and remember our relationship to time, creation, and the cosmos through the Mayan calendar.

We explore fascinating subjects like:

  • Building relationships with the invisible world
  • Learning authentically from the natural world
  • Calling the teacher and what it takes to stay with the teacher
  • Radical responsibility and humility
  • The power of ancient calendars and their roles in our fate and destiny
  • The difficult processes and steps into the Medicine Path
  • The stories of cacao, corn & seeds and their role in our sacred work
  • The deep teachings of Ancient Cosmology
  • And the long process of remembering & forgetting...

Our ancestors and who we are are not only in our dreams or in our remembering but we exist as well in the forgetting. Remembering takes time and vision and so all beings have found an example or a system or an observational language they have to relate to the passing of their journey.

This spark inspired the creation of calendars as they relate to time, cycles, the cosmos, and creation as can be seen in the lineages of the Olmeca, Maya, Zapotec, Aztecs, and many more mesoamerican cultures.

Join us in this exploration, let yourself receive and feel, and let those seeds Marita planted for us grow deep and slow... So you can remember how to forget.

We are here to learn our lessons and we are here to remember our purpose.

But first, we must forget.

Today’s podcast is an exploration of the art of forgetting. Join me as I examine what it is we need to forget and what it is we get to remember. We’ve been trained to accumulate since birth. We collect knowledge, things, and experiences, but to what end? Why are we here and what are we called to do?

I’m exploring:

  • An acknowledgement of community & the greater whole that we are a part of
  • Amnesia at birth: learning as remembering
  • The desperation of a society & its influence to conquer, not steward
  • How can we adjust how we view death & suffering in this world?
  • A time of silence & reflection: What is it that you need to forget and let go of? What is no longer serving you and your purpose?

For James, who lived his life unapologetically. May we do the same.

I’m exploring:

  • Giving ourselves time to integrate so that we can know more
  • Death as an opportunity for relationship
  • Questions to ask yourself when looking at your strengths and weaknesses
  • Failure as an invitation to give love and receive love
  • Accepting humanity for what it is and its potential for creation and destruction
  • An introspective meditation: Sit in timelessness, call upon the void, allow breath to be, observe your unknown, and question your capacity to love yourself

What does it mean to live authentically? And how does your authenticity differ from mine? Or that of your neighbor’s?

Today’s episode is inspired by and is a response to a recent discussion regarding the authentic life. This isn’t about shame, but it is an invitation to look in the mirror and question how you are living your life. From there, you have a choice to continue on or make a shift.

So, join me today as we explore with curiosity words and their meaning, the evolution of language over time, and how colonization has affected how we view traditions, people, and medicine, and how all these tie into living your own authentic life.

I’m exploring:

  • How to seek the gradient of culture, language & communities
  • Letting go of our grip, embracing curiosity & allowing for a deeper connection within the confusion
  • Authenticity as self-acceptance & self-reflection
  • Colonized consumption & consumerism: What is the alternative?
  • If the Western World craves that which it has destroyed, then what now?
  • And much more

Today, I invite you into Circle today as we consider and question grief, loss, and grace. We’re often told we can do anything, defy aging, and conquer death only to be left with anger when we reach capacity. But the human vessel is not something to escape, conquer, or perfect. Death cannot be evolved beyond. So, how can we approach living and dying with grace and gratitude and with acceptance of the limitations that we, and those we love, hold?

I’m exploring:

  • Anger as activation of grief & the pain of misalignment
  • Grief as a misunderstanding of capacity
  • Death as a practice & the use of somatic practices for those preparing to die
  • Silence & stillness for those passing and those who have passed
  • A daily prayer for those entering and leaving this world
  • And more

This episode is dedicated to the loving memory of Heidi.

Today, we’re easing into Circle and we’re taking our time to enter into a new conversation around accountability - without stress, without shame, and without guilt. I invite you to put competition and accomplishment aside and open yourself to observation and wonder. Accountability holds the key to who we truly are. I’m exploring:

  • How you can be accountable to yourself - your deepest, truest self
  • An offer to pause, connect to breath, & honor the directions
  • What it can look like to take time for yourself
  • The connection between accountability & habits
  • Why accountability allows for authenticity
  • A brief meditation: Check in with how you're feeling mentally, emotionally, and physically. Explore how you show up for yourself. Question your honesty. Prepare to embrace accountability. Create balance and boundaries. Bring value back to your human vessel. Connect and embrace who you are.

  • How to reflect on what you learned during your pauses
  • The loneliness that competition creates

Do you feel connected within? Do the separate parts of your being see each other, hear each other, and know each other? Are they working together as one? Or are they in conflict, fighting for attention and independence?

In continuing the conversation of biodiversity and regeneration, this week we turn to collaboration. Within this meditative episode, there is time to pause and connect to self. We’ll question self-sufficiency and sustainability. We’ll discuss the biodiversity within you and each of your parts as well as the biodiversity within nature. Join me for this exploration of self. Let’s see how we can live as one whole being, not disjointed nor disconnected. And from that, let’s learn how we can collaborate with other beings, with nature, leaving wisdom at the door, and opening ourselves to opportunity, creativity, and wholeness.

I’m exploring:

  • The disconnect with sustainability: What has this come to mean?
  • A visual exercise with you at center, examining the ecosystems within
  • The purity & rawness of nature & the reflection it gifts us
  • Practices to deepen your relationship with Mother Earth & where to start
  • If crisis in the world reflects an inner crisis within us
  • A co-creative meditation: noticing & observing what comes, acknowledging the biodiversity of experiences, connecting each of your parts while honoring singularity to create an environment of collaboration, moving from co-existence to co-creating

Do you find yourself yearning for a deeper connection to earth and your ancestors? Are you operating in survival mode not knowing how to be a part of the solution? Can you actually live in relationship with the land you live on?

Today, I come to you as a steward of the land and I welcome you into a continuation of the conversation on biodiversity. In this episode, I’ll take a closer look at regenerative agriculture. This is not a TED Talk, my friend. It’s an invitation. It’s an opportunity. It’s a call for something more, something deeper. Join me for this enlightening exploration of this highly relevant topic and discover how you can become a co-creator of biodiversity.

I’m exploring:

  • Regenerative agriculture: What is it? What does it involve and require? Who does it support?
  • Why regenerative farming is an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • How we have created economies that support the death of soil
  • What it means to take responsibility for your impact on all that is around you
  • Why this topic is relevant now, yet is far from a new discovery
  • How regenerative agriculture relates to climate change
  • A guided meditation: sit with the land and the soil inside of you, connect to the ancestors, access the great intelligence within, connect mind and body, bring in the breath of life

Has our desire for safety and predictability left us without creativity, without wildness, and without a taste for diversity? If so, how did we get here and what can be done about it? What steps can you take in your own life to embrace diversity?

On today’s episode I invite you into a conversation around biodiversity in the world, in nature, and in yourself. I’ll look at how systems and rules are created to control and limit people and their cultures, and where that’s left us. It’s an important discussion, one that has been building for weeks, years even. So, let’s get into it. Let’s see where we’re lacking biodiversity, why we need it, and how you can use your impact, your observations, and your own wildness to build it up.

I’m exploring:

  • What regeneration is: a look at the books
  • How biodiversity goes against monoculture
  • Regenerative farming: why it’s important, how it helps the environment, & why it’s actually farming of remembrance
  • A discussion around the upcoming COP 15: Biodiversity Conference
  • Why diversity in religion, design, & spirituality is crucial
  • An inviting meditation: observe the diversity in each of your parts, feel the ways in which you are a multilayered, biodiverse being, and start to co-create with each part of you

Ever taken a shortcut? That faster, easier way to get from one place to another. We look for them all the time in this world where there is pressure to do more, accomplish more, and work faster. We look for shortcuts in relationships and in conversations as we operate from survival mode. But how can you slow it down, reject the urgency, and live within the limits of your compassion?

In continuing the conversation around relationships, I welcome Rose back to the show today. We’re diving into this topic of time and exploring many of the ways time influences how we live our lives and how we live in relationship with others. We’re questioning if a longer connection means more opportunity for growth, change, and honesty, and if there is any replacement for time in relationships. We’re not searching for answers or solutions, so come join the conversation and learn with us how time is on your side.

We’re exploring:

  • Why connection is important in a world that values solutions
  • The urgency of consumption and survival - are they always connected?
  • How to co-create solutions & why understanding and listening should come before “fixing”
  • Why we try to speed up the process of building relationships with people and nature
  • The relationship of observation - why isn’t this talked about more?
  • Rose’s experience in Ghana with the three types of challenges

We hear a lot that ‘life is sacred,’ but is it ever applied to something other than the human experience? What about the plant kingdom? What about the animal kingdom? These lives are just as sacred. But how can we honor them? And how can we connect with them with permission?

Today, I welcome Jacky Bueno into Circle. She joins us as an energy intuitive healer, reiki master teacher, and cacao keeper. She’s here to share about connecting with the plant kingdom and connecting to self on our journey to radical self-love. We’re walking you through what it means to connect to nature within yourself, the power of consent when it comes to respecting the medicine that the plant kingdom has to offer, and why the journey to deeper connection with nature actually starts with hearing your own voice. Join us for this enlightening and connecting discussion.

We’re exploring:

  • What building a consensual relationship with other kingdoms and yourself can look like & where to start
  • Jacky’s work with cacao: How she listens and surrenders to cacao and gives back to the land that is thirsty
  • Consent in an age of over-commercialized plant medicines
  • The growing popularity of cacao: What it stems from and the impacts we’re seeing
  • Connection as more than just consumption
  • Jacky’s cacao offerings: What products will be available soon, how cacao is incorporated into each, and what opportunities for connection lie within them

Beauty can inspire us. It can evoke a reaction within us and it can bring us to our knees. What steps are you taking to defend the beauty in the world, in nature, and in yourself?

As we enter into Circle today, join me for an exploration of beauty and the defense that beauty can offer you. This topic was inspired by a recent series I watched and it’s one that has been stirring within me since. In a time when countries are warring, leaders are dictating, and genocide continues, let’s take the time to pause and reflect on how we are approaching that which we don’t understand. Are you taking over? Are you trying to control? Are you waiting to understand others before offering love and acceptance? Are you even accepting of yourself, just as you are? Let’s find out.

I’m exploring:

  • The link between domination over nature and domination over people
  • A message for those still hiding and still being vigilant to protect
  • If defending nature is also defending beauty
  • A lesson from the garden on acknowledging beauty, not controlling it
  • Treating the technology and the beauty that you have access to with respect
  • A weaving meditation: reset your breath, your mind, your body, and essence - remember the exquisite - bring in the energy of awe - explore the beauty all around and within

Are you comfortable riding the wave and allowing things to fail, allowing your humanity to be present? Or do you crave certainty? Do you seek out a sure thing? Are you looking for the “right” way?

We’re constantly bombarded with messages and promises of certainty from religion, from products, even programs, telling us this is the right way to do this or that. But we don’t live in a controlled environment. So what do we do? Join me this week as we settle the mind, connect to our breath, and begin to question this idea of certainty. Can it ever really be obtained? And what do you think is waiting for you once you’ve grasped it?

I’m exploring:

  • What certainty looks and feels like to you and why you might be craving it
  • If adventure can coexist with certainty? Or not?
  • What we’re often told depression, anxiety, or nervousness really is and how it connects to our fears of uncertainty
  • How individualism plays a role in seeking out sureness
  • Nervousness as transformation: A lesson from Butterfly
  • A short exercise: Checking in with mind, body, and essence, discovering what stories and fears come up that have us racing after rightness

This episode is dedicated to my father. He taught me to be curious, to be courageous, and to be playful. Through uncertainty, he sought adventure.

How can you connect to the story of your past, your ancestry, the beings you carry with you in your DNA? And how can you love yourself and accept yourself just as you are on your path to radical self-love?

As we enter into Circle today, we’ll connect to the cycle of our breath, we’ll connect to our bones, and we’ll connect to the stories they hold, the story of who we are. Many spiritual circles focus on ideas of ascension or leaving the body, but today I’ll guide you to connect deeper to yourself and examine the intelligence that is already within you, not outside of you. Let’s take the time to look inward and look back, finding wisdom, finding guidance, on our path forward.

I’m exploring:

  • How the story of who you are is woven into your bones
  • Why family is so important in Indigenous cultures and what we can learn from their ways
  • How the modern world has cut itself off from a natural rhythm and where hope for a deeper connection lies
  • An invitation for relationship with Eastern and Western medicine
  • How aging brings us closer to our bones with greater attention towards their state and the history they hold
  • A connecting meditation: I’ll guide you to welcome your soul, essence, and skeletal system. Let’s call upon the dead and ask them the stories of our bones with prompts for those who want it, and space for those that don’t; always giving you the time you need

  • And more

What does amazing grace mean to you? Maybe you know the famous song, or maybe you have a Judeo-Christian view of grace - but, did you know that grace is more than these human-centric definitions? I welcome you this week to be held in Circleness as we explore what grace can actually be, how to expand beyond the limitations of human-centric experiences, and what the spontaneity of energía de gracia can offer you.

I’m exploring:

  • What it means to show up with openness (rather than your expertise)
  • Why continuing the oral tradition is VITAL for creating knowledge
  • How to learn from grace from ALL of the kingdoms around us
  • The unexpected experience of thunder, lightning, and the rain that comes after
  • A plática to guide you on a journey to calibrate yourself and accept grace
  • And much more

How did we get here? If you’ve ever wondered why things are the way they are, it’s time to take a look back. It’s time to stop and consider the history of the land you live on and examine the culture that surrounds you. Today’s episode presents an exploration of information and access, of history and how it shapes our present. It’s not about guilt or shame. It’s about knowledge and recognition. If you desire connection or you’re trying to find meaning, join me today as we look back to learn, then move forward with knowledge, and choose who we want to be on our own unique journey.

I’m exploring:

  • The main purpose in discovering the Americas and how that impacts society today
  • Decolonization: How can you go about gaining back or giving back the wisdom, the community, and the connection that was ripped away
  • How information was controlled in history and is now in present day and what that means for you
  • The significance of “working the land” and how that came about
  • A reflective meditation: We welcome Buffalo into Circle to learn survival and to learn history. We’ll sit with the heaviness of these conversations as we consider how to be stewards of our mind, our body, and our essence as we move forward with wisdom.

How has motherhood touched you? What wounds do you carry with you? If you’re a mother, what expectations have you accepted from society that do not align with who you are? What about as a child? We all have mother wounds that need healing.

As we sit in Circle today, we will consider the mother wounds that we carry as individuals, as a community, and as a culture. We will look to the animal kingdom and learn from Bat and reflect on Quokka as we navigate what wounds need healing. There are great lessons to learn from these beings. We all have different stories. Let us learn from one another without assumption.

I’m exploring:

  • How to build sacred relationships with each other and other kingdoms
  • The interactions between kingdoms, how each one is unique and sacred
  • What we can learn from how Bat has adapted over time and what that means for our journey
  • The mythos of Batman and the weight of trying to heal through revenge
  • An inviting meditation: We’ll look at what motherhood stories we’re still hanging onto and we’ll find our place between the differing examples of Bat and Quokka as we consider their survival and ours.

What does compassion look like and how does it differ from empathy? How can you show up with divine compassion for others, not assuming their stories, but simply asking and witnessing who they are? We all have the right to be. Today, I come to you from Navajo Nation, reflecting on the history of this land and its people, and it is heavy. Join me as we consider divine compassion and how we can grow and learn from simply accepting and witnessing. It’s not our job to fix others. It’s not our job to change them. None of us know the true story of how we’ve arrived here, so let us learn together.

I’m exploring:

  • How you can have and show compassion without fully understanding
  • Letting go of the need to know it all and letting in the possibility of learning
  • Showing up as an individual and as part of a collective being because both have value
  • My experience with the Four Corners Monument: who I met and what I felt there
  • The necessary pieces missing from the Golden Rule
  • A mantra of divine compassion: moving away from consumption and assumption, allowing others to be, and accepting what we do not know

How can you continue to grow and adapt through the trauma and drama you have faced?

How can you measure progress to include the work that is internal?

How can you learn to thrive in a multitude of environments and conditions?

As we enter into Circle today to learn and stay curious, I invite you to join me as we sit with our friend, Aspen. We’ll consider the lessons they teach us and the wisdom they hold within their roots, within their life, and within their letting go. There is much to learn from this being on living, on death, and on rebirth.

I’m exploring:

  • The memory of the Aspen and how it relates to what you keep track of
  • How Aspen knows when to grow and when to wait
  • Why light is needed for growth and what that might mean for you
  • Living in relationship with the world around you, under you, and above you
  • Shadows as natural parts of you: you don’t have to be afraid of darkness
  • A reflective meditation: learn how to weave your breaths together and see the parts of your life that are struggling to grow and connect

“Be present.” “Practice mindfulness.” We’ve all heard these messages and we interpret them in our own way. Maybe you’ve read a book on the topic or taken a quiz in an effort to be mindful in your life. Maybe it’s a new concept for you that’s calling you in. As I welcome you into Circle today, I invite you to join me for a further exploration of the now and the present. We’ll use our bodies to connect past and future as we, together, create and define the Revolution of Now.

I’m exploring:

  • Questions to ask yourself to stay present, not always moving forward or reaching back
  • A look at divineness: Where is it? Is it within us? Where can we look to connect with it?
  • Revolutions: What are they? How are they usually understood? How can we expand how we think of them to help us be present?
  • An imaginative meditation with movement: we’ll partner with a humble friend to play out the rhythm of bringing past and future together as we work towards being here, right now
  • And more

Are you feeling stuck in your habits or in the stories that are within you? Are you wanting a shift but not sure how to start? Today, I invite you into Circle as we make small shifts together. A change in perspective helps us change how we see the world, how we see ourselves, and other beings. As we approach a changing of seasons, it’s a natural time to reset and to adjust our perspective. Join me today as we let go of what we know and invite in newness. Small shifts can change everything. Are you ready?

I’m exploring:

  • A simple exercise to change your perspective, wherever you are right now
  • How imagery and the Animal Kingdom can assist in gaining new perspectives
  • What you can do to calm the crisis within you and resist crisis in the world
  • How you can return to a state of wonder, awe, and creativity
  • An inviting meditation: use breath work to examine what feels stuck, to open yourself to new perspectives and welcome in the unknown

Are you ready to meet yourself for all that you are? Are you willing to sit with yourself and discover the parts that you’ve gotten good at hiding, the parts that are resistant to change? It’s not about defining yourself or fitting into the boxes that others have designed for you. The Jaguar Circle is about being you and giving a voice to your body, your essence, your mind, each part of you. Today, I sit down with Rose to discuss all that Jaguar encompasses. We’re mixing things up and Rose will be interviewing me for a change. Join us as we explore the path of the Jaguar along with the balance of individualism, coexistence, and individual evolution in the world today.

We’re exploring:

  • How to know if you’re ready for the Jaguar Circle
  • My origin story as it relates to Jaguar, my lineage, and my family’s influence
  • How Jaguar connects you to yourself
  • What Jaguar medicine has shown me and the shifts it’s stirred up
  • The love language of Jaguar
  • Details about the Jaguar container: what you can expect, the time it requires, and why you’re worthy of this investment in self

Have you heard about the new love language? It’s ‘to be known’. This echoes the message of radical self love that we talk about often within this community and on this week’s episode I’m diving into this idea of love languages, but it’s not what you think. I’m expanding the conversation to include the many other kingdoms on this planet. How can we be in relationship with the wind, the sea, and the animals? How can we know them and be known by them in those relationships? We’re all manifestations of love in different forms. So, let’s dig into this today.

I’m exploring:

  • How to reframe your thinking of the different kingdoms to expand their meaning
  • Why only building relationships with other humans limits your growth
  • The global love language beyond what you have now
  • Spirit animals: How to examine your relationship with yours and what to check for
  • A detailed look at my upcoming series: what inspired its design, who it’s meant for, and what’s involved
  • An inviting and envisioning meditation with Fox

Are you living or are you dying? It’s either one or the other as today’s guest will share. There is no stagnation. Today, I sit down with a cacao keeper, an energy intuitive healer, and a reiki master teacher. She is a love ambassador coming from an unbroken lineage of curanderismo. I welcome my dear friend, Jacky. She joins us from West Texas, the land of “bigger and better” to discuss consumerism, the medicine of cacao, her experience as a child of immigrants, and why she calls herself an energy doula. Today’s conversation is full of insight and light. It’s a taste of the spiritual medicine she offers her students.

We’re exploring:

  • How cacao helped Jacky to connect to herself, reclaim her family’s roots, and exist just as she is
  • Consumption and competition: an invitation to leave both behind
  • What being a child of immigrants has taught her and the medicine it holds
  • Jacky’s experience leaving the evangelical church and how being a prayer warrior fits into her spiritual journey now
  • The energy required in both birth and dying, plus a helpful illustration in letting go

It's easy these days to feel overwhelmed. It’s easy to want to retreat and reclaim some private space. But what can these feelings tell us about ourselves? As we settle into Circle today, we’ll observe our energy, our responsibilities, and our self-care. We’ll look at the balance of energy and question what needs adjusting and what needs reclaiming. We’ll use illustrations and meditation to guide our reclamation of self. You have the right to take up space just as you are. The right to be is yours. And you can start now.

I’m exploring:

  • Reclaiming self: the patience it requires and the freedom it allows
  • A lesson for those giving 110% or more
  • Questions to ask yourself about where your energy is going
  • An alternative to retreating, making yourself smaller, and giving away your power
  • Perfection: Do we have the right to make mistakes?
  • An observing meditation: What can other kingdoms and cultures teach us about ourselves? How can we learn from other stories?

How can we find our truth in a world full of different belief systems, different ways of understanding the world, and different spiritual teachers? How can we connect to spirituality when none of these systems seem to fit just right? What we believe can go on to shape the way we see ourselves, our purpose in this world, and can influence how we connect to other people and other kingdoms. So to help answer these questions, I welcome Dr. Glenis Mark. Glenis is an intuitive coach and mentor and the creator of the Key of Truth Academy. She’s here today to share how she came to find her truth and how she can help you find yours. Glenis’ wisdom is medicine for us all as we grow, change, and evolve together. Let’s listen in.

We’re exploring:

  • How Glenis’ search began in adolescence and helped shape the work she does today
  • Why forgiveness is key to your spiritual journey
  • The challenge of understanding and incorporating self-love practices for those who have suffered from abuse
  • Using YouTube to connect to natural places we don’t have access to
  • How self-love can help us create a reality of love in our daily lives
  • Why accepting change is showing kindness to yourself

As the world around us speeds up, the act of slowing down becomes ever more important and necessary. It can be easy to get lost in the day to day shuffle, hustling to earn more, have more, and be more. But who says it has to be this way and is there any alternative? Today I welcome a guest who has walked the path of busyness and chosen an alternative route. Amber Keyes joins me today. Amber is a business success mentor and a Human Design expert, working to transform individuals and communities into beings and spaces of true inclusion. As she will explain, it starts with self. Join us for this enlightening and playful reintroduction to Human Design.

We’re discussing:

  • How motherhood and the search for peace and community sparked a new direction in Amber’s life
  • The dangers of oversimplifying complex systems in order to make them more attainable, what gets lost in translation
  • Amber’s background of studying community and social systems and how that impacts her work today
  • How misinformation moves faster than truth and why it’s good, but hard, to question the systems that surround us
  • Why our bodies are our guides, not our thinking minds
  • The words and types of Human Design, unpacked and explained

This is a recurring theme for me, and I’m excited to dive deeper into the idea of circleness and the value of simplicity with my very first guest Mixchelle Evans—a storyteller, writer, and the meditation & ceremonial guide behind heart.earth.drum. • How Mixchelle is guided by her gift of medicine (and why she’s honoring those who walked before her)

  • The lessons in being able to listen to the stillness

When was the last time you experienced joy? Do you remember what it felt like? So often we’re told by voices outside ourselves what should bring us joy and what it should feel like within us. We can be convinced that joy is simply possessing, conquering, or succeeding, but it doesn’t have to be. In today’s episode I’m examining the concept of joy; how we can define it and what it means to experience it and then surrender to it. Join me today for an exploration of self and an opportunity to be exactly who you are right now, bringing your past and future together to the present.

I’m exploring:

  • The various meanings of joy: which one connects with you?
  • Why it might be difficult to choose joy
  • My personal journey in surrendering to joy; I’m walking this path with you
  • How we can learn from the animal kingdom when it comes to shaking off that which we don't want or need any longer
  • Establishing the baseline of joy for our senses so we can move forward
  • And more

Are you moving through each day, living only to check the boxes? Are you letting the algorithms of society determine who you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to do? We come from all different ways of being. Today’s Circle is not meant to erase who you are, but seeks to welcome all the parts of your story, all the parts of you. Join me as we check in with ourselves. Step outside the algorithm. Let go of expectations and take this time to observe the story you’re creating.

I’m exploring:

  • How the algorithm influences us: who we meet, decisions we make
  • Conversations from years past continuing to leave their mark on our story
  • The rules of society that inform our everyday decisions and path (and how to release them)
  • How we limit ourselves to expected lifestyles, not determined by us
  • Predictability: why do we cling to it and how can we let it go?
  • A grounding meditation offered to let today’s wisdom sink in: find gratitude for all the parts of your being, allow yourself expression, uncheck the boxes that are not serving you in your path towards radical self love and acceptance

Like a butterfly, we all transform. We all have times of metamorphosis and change. Are you working against that? Are you embracing the changes? Can you look back and see how you have grown? Today, as I welcome you into Circle, we will consider the process of transformation. We will make space for our mind, body, and essence to connect and communicate. And we will honor the opportunity that time holds for us to learn who we are, to transform who we are, and to be who we are. Let’s begin. I’m exploring:

  • Transformation in each stage of life: should we embrace it? Should we expect to face certain challenges only once?
  • How we can connect to the life cycle of a butterfly and the lessons this being offers us if we pay attention
  • Spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental metamorphosis
  • Extending the time frame of balance, expanding its meaning so we are not limited
  • A transformational meditation meant to hold space for you to find your balance, to sink deeper into your body, and find ways to nurture our bodies

Is your energy leaking out? Do you experience burn out, exhaustion, or frustration with others? When this happens we assume it’s outside forces affecting us or people taking advantage of us, but let us consider an alternative. Maybe your energy is leaking as a result of you not fully knowing yourself. Today, as we enter into Circle, we will examine all parts of ourselves: our mind, our body, our essence. It takes time to get to know oneself honestly and respectfully. Be here. Be now. Take the first steps toward radical self love. Let’s get started. I’m discussing:

  • Working from unrealistic reservoirs of energy and potential
  • Knowing our true capacity: must we push ourselves to the edge?
  • Ways to mitigate energy leaks
  • How “going through the motions” of life can lead to even more energy leaks
  • Putting shame aside, letting go of control, and experiencing intimacy
  • How our bodies hold our memories and stories - give them space to speak
  • Caring for others without carrying their emotions or expectations of us
  • A letting go meditation: let go of the past stories you cannot change, other people’s thoughts of you, and lost loves. Explore where you might be carrying stories you no longer need to hold on to.

If no man is an island, where does that leave us when we are in isolation? How can we stay connected to the world around us when we are alone? And how can we savor nature’s kingdoms, not just when supplies run short and when excess is no longer available, but at all times? Today, as I welcome you into Circle, we will consider the familiar, centuries old text from John Donne, and explore the meaning of change and connection in our human-centric society. Often people, animals, all beings are treated as a means to an economic end where their value lies only in what they can contribute to the great machine. But let us consider an alternative, where all beings and kingdoms have value, not in what they can offer us or how they can serve us, but just as they are.

I’m exploring:

  • Approaching change with grace, sitting with discomfort, and searching for worth
  • The opportunity that travel offers us to pause and experience cultural exchanges
  • If humans are born to seek community, if community means connection
  • The struggle to resist the human-centric mindset
  • What islands can teach us about our environment and ourselves
  • Experiencing loss in order to assign value
  • A grounding meditation offered to help you connect to your island wherever you are. Nature has inspired every detail that surrounds us. Connect with it. Give gratitude for it. Recognize your interdependence with it.

What does it mean to witness? Is it simply observing? Is it deepy knowing? And how can we witness ourselves? How can we know ourselves so that we can accept and be accountable to who we are? Can this knowledge affect how we see other beings? Today, I welcome you into Circle and invite you into this place of self love. We will explore what it means to see ourselves, to know ourselves, and what conscious decisions can flow from that intimacy. It is amazing to be witnessed and there is great power in witnessing. With curiosity, playfulness, and openness: let’s get started.

I’m exploring:

  • The power of knowing who you are and how that helps you relate to others
  • What is self mastery? Is it control? Is it power?
  • Grief and boredom as superpowers, not burdens
  • Lessons on weaving and unraveling: what can be learned from Grandmother spider?
  • What is self love? Is it pure vanity or selfishness?
  • Knowing ourselves beyond facts and figures, beyond symptoms and preferences: there is much more within us
  • A witnessing meditation: I’ll guide you to witness your mind, body, and essence. What will you see? How will it deepen your self love?

What does it mean to pursue happiness? Do you find yourself seeking it out, hunting it down, only to find it momentarily and then begin the search again? It is easy to get caught in this cycle, but there is another way. Today, as I welcome you into Circle, we will consider this pursuit, what happiness means to you, and we will examine the collective ache of happiness that our culture is experiencing. I invite you into this time to be curious, to stay playful, to open yourself up to the opportunity to learn. I have sat with the weight of this topic, and now I bring it to you: let’s dive in together and question what happiness means to our body, our mind, and our essence so we can let go of the ache of pursuing and start enjoying being.

I’m sharing:

  • The connection between the pursuit of happiness and the nationalism that is present in our culture today
  • Why laying down our knowledge and breaking apart our long-held understanding of certain words can help us in our practice
  • How to reframe the notion of the “right to happiness”
  • Why the angst of consuming and distracting may not be amounting to happiness for you
  • The difference between practicing vs. chasing and catching vs. seeking
  • How we can face our fears of not having and find gratitude
  • An inviting meditation meant to help you connect to your own definitions of happiness and answer the questions of what feels happy for your mind, body, and essence

Does the invitation to lay down your wisdom stir up agitation or relief? Can you leave all that you know outside the circle? What is there to gain when we do not know? In today's episode, I invite you to step into being, into the unknown, and consider what you can receive when you lay down your wisdom. Allow yourself to receive the gift of being wrong, making mistakes, starting again, reimagining, and reinventing. This may be a long journey for those who have lived only in a culture that celebrates knowing and accomplishing, but the journey is worth it and you are worth it.

I’m exploring:

  • Why the tools of self development and mindfulness may not fit into the Path of Ix or the circles of Cacao and Jaguar
  • What being in circleness might bring up for you
  • How you can know you’re ready to enter the circle
  • The impact that cohesiveness can have on you and the world around you
  • Why I use “cultural exchange” rather than “lesson”
  • How circleness reveals all, even parts you may not like
  • The blessing of confusion and how to get there
  • A connecting meditation around the circle designed to shake things up, allow for a pause to reset, with an invitation to lay down your wisdom as you ease into the openness of not knowing

How can we connect the dots of our past with those of our present and what is to come in our future? How can we live in circleness rather than being stuck in the mindset that our lives must be linear? In today’s episode, I will guide you in considering your breath, your life, your whole being in circleness. The moments in your life are all connected. Can you see it? Do you feel it? By seeing and honoring the circle that we live in, we bring purpose to what we have been through, what our ancestors have given us and taught us, and it can enlighten our hopes and dreams for the future.

I’m exploring:

  • The four points of our breath
  • How our dots can only be connected organically when we look back
  • The importance of redefining and relearning and not always knowing
  • Why one moment cannot be isolated, but must be seen as it relates to our past and future
  • An invitation to live deeply into your moments even as life keeps on moving
  • The interconnection of cacao, maize, and cosmology
  • A connecting meditation to consider each part of your body as dots that make up who you are in this moment, on your journey

How can we accept ourselves wholly and honestly, knowing our missteps, our falls, are part of our story? How can we love ourselves even if others may not? Can you walk your path with acceptance and without judgment? Can you weave together what you know with what you do not know? In today’s episode I will guide you on this journey to radical self love and acceptance as we explore what to let go of and what to invite in. There is not just one way or one path to radical self love, but there is your unique path. Although challenging, this path can provide opportunities, give you hope, and it can empower you to face your potential to be completely you, just as you are.

I’m exploring:

  • Laying down the burdens of our expectations and judgements
  • How suffering might have a place in our path and how to accept it
  • Working towards resolution, not forgiveness
  • Sitting with the unresolved parts of our being
  • Why it takes courage to see yourself and unravel the stories that we see in our reflection
  • How self-love goes beyond self-care
  • An inviting meditation to accept ourselves, our stories, and our path wherever it may lead us

Today's plática is one that has been brewing for over the past six months. The energía that we invite to sit with us in the circle today has many names: awakening, trauma, grief but today we will simply call it a wound. Join me for today's conversation where we talk about the work necessary to identify and heal our wounds.

The journey to healing can be a long one and for those called onto The Medicine Path, those asked to weave their knowledge and experiences to help others, it can be easy to prioritize filling other's cups before your own. Today's guest shows us that the healing journey is one that never ends, one that asks to remain students of life and become our own medicine first.

  • Ash's creation story (and how being a cancer survivor has changed her life and practices )

We exist in a constant state of global unrest whether we are impacted by it directly or indirectly. While we cannot control the war outside of us we can actively and diligently create peace inside of us. But first, we must ask ourselves what peace looks like for us. What does it feel, taste and smell like to our mind, body and essence? Can we allow conflict between these parts and surrender to their duality? Can you welcome them into circle, allow yourself YOUR version of peace, and take responsibility for creating the peace you need and deserve?Join me for today's plática as we invite the energía of peace into the circle. Tune in to learn more about how peace can be a state of lack, how to identify your version of peace, and why we must declare an act of war to create peace.

I'm exploring:

  • Why peace is a state of lack and why we sometimes don't "accomplish" it
  • The questions you can ask yourself to figure out what peace truly means to you
  • Ways in which peace can be an act of war against the self
  • How to tap into the duality of peace (and why we must work diligently to manifest it)
  • A nourishing meditation to invite you to tap into your truth about peace

There is this expectation that things should happen within a certain amount of time and that could be because you were taught that urgency was really about worth and value. Join me as we create context around what patience is for you, while diving into stories that come up when you hear the word patience paired with capacity and a sense of urgency. In today’s episode, I invite this special topic to circle and ask you to be present, not trying to rush ahead or look back and discover what patience means to you.

I’m exploring:

  • Questions to ask yourself to check in on what patience means for YOUR body, mind and essence
  • How you measure your capacity of patience will be determined by your expectations and values
  • The agreement in customer service: that the sense of urgency has this value attachment of being taken care of
  • Why having that sense of urgency sometimes does not fit into the culture that you are trying to learn from
  • Comparing how in some societies, patience is spoken of as a virtue
  • And so much more

As we continue to encounter the stories that follow us into the circle, it is important to stay open, flexible and full of curiosity. But, the need to be right often stops us from being curious and ultimately from being in relationship. Today's plática seeks to call us inward and invites us to ask ourselves where we are with righteousness and why we stand so strongly within it. In this episode I want to propose to you a path of relationship, a way of earning knowledge that does not prioritize righteousness and allows us to show up fully as students of life. Can you lay down the burden of being right and allow yourself the possibility of another way?

I'm exploring:

  • Why it's important that we remain curious
  • What tradition can teach us about being open

What is your story when it comes to success and perfectionism? Who informed this definition? How does this energy feel? Does it allow you to live in circleness or is it linear? This is a platica that I have had many times over my life with many people! Join me for today’s conversation, where we stay curious about the stories we have woven about destiny, the possibility of journeying inwards and what it feels like to come back to self and become the you that you want to be. In today’s episode, I invite this special topic to circle and ask you to start looking at success and perfectionism differently and meditate on your destiny as a journey home; a journey to you. YOU are your destiny.

I’m exploring:

  • Coming back to yourself vs moving away from self
  • Ways in which our ideas of success and perfectionism keep us from being in the present
  • A lesson from the Romans on destiny and bringing things home
  • How we can start to look at success and destiny in a very different way
  • A nourishing meditation to help you shift your perspective on destiny

In each of our spiritual journeys, there comes a time when we experience this little thing called coming out of the spiritual closet. But how does it manifest in our lives? Today’s guest is here to share her experience! In today’s episode, I invite not just this special topic to the circle but also an amazing human being. I am joined by Rose of Live bi Design, an amazing, inspirational leader, teacher, healer, and truth-seeker who is on fire about how to help people radically shift their paradigms in business and life. Join us as Rose shares her creation story, her experience coming out of the spiritual closet, and how this has influenced her empowerment work. This episode also has a special treat as Rose guides us in a quick mediation to pause, reconnect and call ourselves back home.

We’re exploring:

  • Some of Rose’s windy creation story and how it’s tied to coming out of the spiritual closet
  • Her vast early experiences with Mother Earth and the link between nature and spirit
  • Lessons from her childhood on offerings and gratitude (and how they influenced her relationship with nature)
  • Significant turning points that put her back in the spiritual closet (and why one of them is a closet she is still coming out of)
  • The one thing that brought her back to relationship with nature
  • Inherited wounds that made her turn away from her spirituality
  • SIMPLE practices for solo time that you can implement even in the midst of chaos
  • Why alone time is SO important (and how it can strengthen your sense of self)

Being social isn’t just for people, and relationships with Mother Earth are CRUCIAL to embracing a new way of being. In this plática, let’s get playful with the word “creating” and really explore the topic of value, why MANY of my students wrestle with these concepts, and what you will learn if you accept the old and new together on your journey to radical self-love & self-acceptance.

  • Why you should honor your reactions to words like post-colonialism
  • How to determine your loyalty to the societal agreements of your culture (and how it impacts your reclamation of self)

  • What I’ve been taught to think about value
  • The cycle of giving and receiving value that comes with the great exchange between Mother Earth and yourself

What does it mean to TRULY walk in circleness? This is a recurring theme for me, and I’m excited to dive deeper into the idea of circleness and the value of simplicity with my very first guest Mixchelle Evans—a storyteller, writer, and the meditation & ceremonial guide behind heart.earth.drum. In this episode, Mixchelle shares the ways she invites circleness, the power of speaking & listening with the heart, and she guides us in a nourishing meditation to bring you back to simplicity and wholeness.

We’re exploring:

  • Why storytelling has been a BIG part of her world (and how it brought her back to the heart)
  • How Mixchelle is guided by her gift of medicine (and why she’s honoring those who walked before her)
  • The lessons in being able to listen to the stillness
  • What Cacao taught her about making room (and what this looks like as you slow down and listen more)
  • Why ALL of your experiences (perfect and imperfect) are a vital part of your journey—and how to be thankful for each one in your circle of completeness
  • Mixchelle’s advice for finding value in a beautiful, simple, and slow way of being
  • How she’s getting back to simplicity (and rethinking abundance) in the kitchen
  • And much more!
